1. Waking Up

A/N: Yet another in my series of stories. The timeline this follows can be found at:
http://fanfiction.portkey.org/index.php?act=read&storyid=5179. The entry that predates this one is at:
http://fanfiction.portkey.org/index.php?act=read&storyid=5180 Now the rest of the series isn't really in order, but my
first two “Memories” were in order. I felt it only appropriate since they were linked.

As always, I do not own the characters in the Harry Potter series. Sadly, they belong to JK Rowling, Warner Brothers,
and the various publishers. So don't sue! :P

July 27, 2001

I woke groggily to the smells of disinfectants and total quiet. Occasionally I'd here a whispered voice here or there,
but nothing other than that. After a few minutes I was able to start noticing other things. All the walls were white, my
chest really hurt, and certain shapes were blurry. Almost as soon my senses started functioning, my memory slammed into
me.

`Oh Merlin! Harry! Voldemort! Where the bloody hell am I?! Where's Harry? Is Voldemort dead? Is Harry? Why can't I see?
Where's Harry?'

As my thoughts start rushing around, I notice the sounds of several alarms going off and people in white robes running
in. At least, I think they are robes, as I can't really tell since they're blurry.

”Hermione! Hermione! Calm down.” One of the voices, which is vaguely familiar, commands. However, my mind is still
whirring.

Eventually I calm down enough to ask a few questions.

”What happened? Where am I? Where's Harry? Is Voldemort gone? Why is everything blurry?” Suddenly I hear chuckles issue
throughout the room, and start to get angry.

`Why are people laughing at me? Is there some kind of joke that I'm not let in on?'

I feel something cool slide onto my face and suddenly everything is clear again. Surrounding me are a few healers, the
Weasleys, and Draco Malfoy. It doesn't take long for me to realize that I'm wearing glasses. It also doesn't take me
long to realize that half my right chest and shoulder are bandaged up, and that I'm only in a hospital gown.

”Would someone care to clue me in on the joke” I ask grumpily.

Molly is the first to speak. ”Oh dear, we're just happy to see you alive and well. We thought that you and Harry were
dead when brought in. Took the healers quite a lot of effort to separate the two of you since Harry was found cradling
your body, slumped over.”

However, her words don't comfort me, and an icy feeling trickles down my back.

”Where's Harry?” I ask pointedly.

The feeling in the room sobers just a bit, and then Ron speaks. He's in the room next door Hermione. He's been in a coma
the last three days. The healers aren't very optimistic about his chances.

Before he's even finished speaking, I've thrown the covers off me, and am trying to get out of the bed, ignoring the
burning sensation in my chest. Several of the healers try to push me back down, but I'm having none of it. Luckily, I
did learn a little wandless magic, and use it to summon my wand to me, which was ironically on the table next to me. As
soon as the wand is in my hand, everyone backs off, knowing how capable I am with it. I hear only mumbled protests as I
make my way out of the bed, and check the room next to mine for Harry. It was the wrong room, so I head in the other
direction, to check the other room. The group huddled in my room watches me cautiously as they all know how I am, when
there's something wrong with Harry.

Relief floods my body when I see Harry laying peacefully in the bed. I push the door open, and my chest twinges just
slightly. He looks so calm, and actually his age. There are a few cuts on his face, but other than that he looks
unharmed. I walk in, closing the door behind me so that we can have at least a little privacy. I pull up a chair next to
the bed, and grasp one of Harry's hands in mine, kissing it lightly. The pain in my chest is nothing but a dull echo as
I concentrate on him. I'm well aware of the pairs of eyes that watch me from the entrance, but they dare not intrude.
Who would want to tick off the most powerful witch of the century? I push the fringe of his hair back and lightly run my
hand down his face.

”Hi darling. I know you can hear me. I start softly. ”I really wish you would wake up, and stop scaring everybody. You
can't leave me now that everything is about to be great. Voldemort's gone; otherwise we wouldn't be here now. We can
start that family you wanted, you know, give the Weasleys a run for their money.”

My body starts to droop, as my sudden exertions begin catching up to me. My wand clatters to the floor and my head falls
onto Harry's chest.

Hours later, I wake up back in a bed again. This time someone is holding onto my hand. I fumble with my other hand to
see if I can find those glasses again. Luckily, they're on the bedside table, next to my wand. I fumble with them for a
second before getting them just right. Black hair is the first thing I see against my hand. My stirrings wakes him up,
and I see ecstatic emerald eyes open to see me.

Hermione! Harry yells out. ”You're all right. Oh Merlin, I'm so sorry. I couldn't protect you. I thought you were dead.
It was my entire fault. You forgive me right?”

I can't help but chuckle a little. I'm just happy you're alright. You defeated him Harry. It's all over, and we're both
alive.

He hugs me tightly and I feel a sharp pain suddenly shoot through me. I can't help but gasp in pain, and Harry quickly
releases me. ”What's wrong?”

”Spell damage from the battle I'm guessing.”

”Hermione, I'm so sorry. I should have gone”

”If you say, `on your own', I don't care if we're both in a hospital, I will hex you.”

Harry grinned cheekily at me. ”Well, I was going to say `on MY own', but I bet you'd hex me for that too. I'm just so
happy that this is all over.”

I grin back at him and sneak in a kiss. When it's ended, I give him a wink. ”Now we just have to face the press.”
