1. Through the Grape Vine

A/N:  Haha, I was looking in the D/G challenge forum at Kindred spirits and found this.  I DEFINITELY want to have a go at this one!!!!

Disclaimer:  Harry Potter is not mine, so will you stop making me feel so bad?

The challenge

In potions class, Ginny is making a truth potion. (a legal one) Snape picks on Ginny to be the one it is tested on, and allows a Slytherin to ask her questions. Even though the person was not supposed to, she/he manages to get Ginny to admit she likes Draco Malfoy.

Draco finds out. He confronts her in the great hall. He kisses her.

Ron freaks out. Curses are thrown. Draco, Ginny and Ron end up in detention together.

To make Ron mad. Draco keeps making intones (
don’t know what this means, so im just guessing being flirty) towards Ginny. Ginny gives it right back. She makes a comment about how the hat wanted her to be in Slytherin. The causes Ron to faint.

how does this end? That's up to you. Humor is what I'm looking for, fluff is always welcome.

Through the Grape Vine

“Weasley!” Snape barked, looking into her caldron that was currently bubbling a bright blue.  “Do you realize your Veritaserum is supposed to be Dark Green, and that pathetic excuse for a potion is now light blue?”

“Uh y-yes sir,” she stammered back, cowering in the presence of her Potions teacher.

“Do you also realize it is supposed to be simmering, not bubbling?”  Ginny nodded timidly.  “If it is not corrected by the end of class, you will fail this entire semester.  Get working!” He spat.

Ginny ceased cowering, but began to feverishly prepare her ingredients and stir the contents of her cauldron.  For the next thirty minutes, she craned over her work.  She believed if she stayed that way, she’d have a permanent humpback.

The one minute she chose to stand up and stretch her back, Snape waltzes over like he owns the place.  “Wealsey!” He barked for the second time that day.  “Since there are only five minutes left in class, what do you say we test out your-“ he peered over the side of the cauldron and grimaced “-concoction, eh?”

Dumb Canadian impersonator, Ginny thought with an inward laugh.  “Yes sir,” she said more confidently this time, seeing as her potion was the exact color and consistency it was supposed to be.

“Peterson!” Snape called to an overweight Slytherin in Ginny’s year.  “You will be asking Weasley here questions to test out her Veritaserum.  Guidelines are: you cannot ask her anything about her love life.  Like any of us need that torture.  You also cannot ask her anything so extremely personal, you wouldn’t want your mother to hear it.  Am I understood?”

“Yes sir!” he answered.  Snape bottled a vial of Ginny’s potion, and handed it to her.

“Drink the entire thing or it wont work,” Snape ordered.  Ginny downed it in one gulp.  A warm tingling spread through Ginny’s veins.  It felt oddly pleasant.  “Sit,” he ordered again, pointing to a chair up front.

“Ok, Weasley,” Peterson started once Ginny had sat down.  “What’s your full name?”

“Ginevra Molly Asthenia Weasley,” Ginny answered truthfully.

“Who’s your favorite brother: Ron, George, Fred, or Percy?” he asked again, a sly grin spreading across his face.

“It’s a tie between Fred and George.  I mean, they’re twins,” she answered, yet again truthfully.

“Who do you love?” he asked slyly.

“NO NO NO!” Snape barked.  “Mr. Peterson I said no-“

“Draco Malfoy,” Ginny answered like a robot.

“What?” Snape asked, bewildered.

“You heard me, Professor I-don’t-know-what-a-shower-is. Draco Malfoy,” Ginny answered.

Needless to say, the whole class went deadly silent.

“Hey Draco,” Blaise whispered in Charms later that day.  “Did you hear?”

“Hear what?” he sneered.  “That you’re a dumbass?  Sorry, but that’s no news to me.”

Blaise surreptitiously slapped him upside the head.  “No.  Weasley likes you,” he whispered with an added smirk.

“I always knew he was gay,” Draco answered calmly.

“Not that one.  Rumor is he has a thing for Lovegood.  I meant the little Weasley,” Blaise answered.

“Ahh, you mean the one with the nice legs?” Draco asked.  Blaise nodded.  “Not a bad deal I guess.  She does do good to the eyes.”

“Yea,” Blaise answered detachedly.  “Too bad she chose you.  I’d definitely take advantage of that.”

“And who says I won’t?” Draco asked offended as class was letting out.

“Oh come out.  You’ve had a tiff with the Weasels for as long as I can remember.  You are definitely gonna let that get in the way of your shagging the Weasley girl,” Blaise responded, as the walked to the Great Hall for lunch.

“Oh, and who says that?” he asked.

“I do,” Blaise responded, sticking out his tongue like a little kid and running away.

“Oh get back here you little chit!” Draco yelled, running after him.

“Gonna have to catch me!” Blaise yelled back, twisting his head to look at Draco.

Bad idea.

Blaise ran headfirst into the door of the Great Hall.  “Idiot,” Draco muttered, helping him up.

“Why so many snitches, mommy?” Blaise asked dazedly, looking up in awe.

“You are one cracked kid, Zabini.” Draco muttered, putting his arm around him to support him all the way to the Slytherin table.

“I’m dead,” Ginny muttered to Colin Creevey, banging her head on the Gryffindor table.  “I-“ bang “-am-“ bang! “-DEAD!”  BANG!

“Ginny,” Colin started, holding out an arm so she could inflict no further damage to her head.  “Hitting your head on the table won’t do any good,” Colin said optimistically.  “You just gotta think positively!  Like I do!”  Colin was not angry like the rest of her house, only because he already knew her little secret.

“I’m dead.”

“Whatever you are lead to believe, oh psycho one,” Colin sighed, as she began banging her head on the table once more.

“You know, that is very un-lady like, Weaslette,” a voice sneered from behind them.

“Oh shit,” Ginny deadpanned.

“Now, now.  Language like that is inappropriate for one such as you,” Draco continued.  Ginny didn’t even bother to turn around and face him.  So much for Gryffindor courage.

“Malfoy, I know you wanted to come here to make my life a living hell.  Please, please just let me be for once.  I’ve gotten enough snide remarks from my own house, I don’t need the same from you,” Ginny groaned.  Draco did nothing but smirk with satisfaction.

“So it’s true then?” Draco asked after moments of silence.

Ginny turned paper white trying to hold her rage in.  She stood up, spun around, and stepped over the bench that was separating her and Draco.  “Yes, it is, Draco,” she sneered.  “Now will you just please leave me the fuck alone?!”

“You know,” he whispered huskily.  “You are extremely sexy when you’re mad.”

“What the-“ Ginny started, but was soon hushed by Draco’s lips covering her own.

Oh Crap!  Oh crap!  Oh…Oh Merlin, is that his tongue?  Ginny’s mind screamed.  Oh this is so damn wrong…ooh, but that feels good.

As soon as it started, it immediately stopped as a flash of red knocked Draco to the floor.  My brother had his hand wrapped around his neck, and his wand pointed to his collarbone.

“Don’t you DARE touch my baby sister!” Ron threatened, standing up, and allowing him to pull his own wand out.  “TARANTELLEGRA!” Ron shouted.

“Crap!” Draco shouted as he began to do a crazy jig.  “CONJUNCTIVITIS!” Draco aimed his spell at Ron.  A reddish-orange beam of light hit Ron and he covered his eyes and staggered around.

“I’M BLIND!” he wailed.  “I’M FREAKING BLIND!”  He opened his eyes and they were totally white except for his pupils.  Even his Irises were white.

“What is going on here? McGonagall said sternly, suddenly appearing beside the staggering boys.

“Draco and Ron were dueling, ma’am,” Ginny told her.  “I had no part in it!”

“You were the reason they started dueling, Ginny!” Colin peeped.  Real great timing!

“Detention tonight for the three of you!  In all my years, I have never!  Right after dinner, in the Dungeons!” she ordered.

“Yes ma’am,” Draco, Ron, and Ginny all answered after she had performed the counter curses.  Draco and Ginny both glared at Ron before storming away.

“What did I do?” Ron asked, dumbfounded.

Ginny was fuming when she arrived at the potions class that night.  Detention with her worst brother and her worst enemy would not be fun.

“Weasley, sit!” Snape ordered when she entered the classroom, pointing to a seat next to Ron, who was sitting next to Draco.  “There is to be no talking at all!  I will be upstairs talking to Filch about expanded my ingredients cabinet, and I will be back in no less and no more than two hours to let you out!”  With a swish of his black robes, he was gone.

“Weasley,” Draco whispered, pointing to Ron and winking.  Ginny winked right back, understanding exactly what he meant.  “You know what we talked about before.  How about tonight at nine, my room.” Ron’s jaw dropped, and he looked at Ginny as if she had no shame.

“Sure.  Just make sure you remember the-er-stuff this time,” she said playfully.

“After last time, do I dare?” he asked huskily.

“You are so evil,” Ginny giggled, silently vowing never to do it again.  She absolutely HATED giggling.

“I know.  But remember what happened a few nights ago.  I’d be surprised you weren’t in Slytherin,” he responded slyly.

“Well, the sorting hat did consider putting me in Slytherin, but I didn’t want to disappoint dear Ronniekins.”  That was it.  That hit Ron like a bludger.  He fell back in his seat and toppled over backwards, unconscious.

“Yes!” Draco shouted in glee.  “He’s out!”

Ginny laughed.  “Thank God.  He’d kill me after that.  Maybe that stone floor knocked out some of his memory, by chance?”

“Hopefully.  He’ll kill me, too,” Draco responded.  Then, there was awkward silence.

“Why’d you kiss me in the Great Hall anyways?” Ginny asked nonchalantly, though her insides were wriggling with anxiousness.

“I don’t know.  First of all, I heard you like me, and I might as well see if you’re a good kisser.  Second of all, it’s a good way to get you and make your brother mad.  Third of all, I always wondered what it would be like to kiss a Weasley.”  Ginny blushed a light pink.

“You know what’s different about you?” he asked her.

“What?”

“You blush an endearing light pink.  Your brother turns an atrocious shade of red that horribly clashes with his hair,” Draco commented, pulling out a textbook, a piece of parchment, a quill, and an inkbottle.  He opened to a certain page and began scribbling notes on the piece of parchment.

“Thanks…I think.”

An hour and a half passed by faster than Ginny would’ve liked.  She spent the entire time actually having a civil conversation with Draco.  When Snape came back though, he found them diligently working on their homework.

“You may go,” Snape dismissed.  Ginny began to stuff her things back into her bag.  She dropped one of her quills and bent to pick it up.  By chance, as she reached to pick it up, Draco’s hand reached for it at the same time.  His hand was over hers, and his cloudy gray eyes were boring into her honey hazel ones.

“Sorry,” Ginny mumbled, blushing, and taking her quill and quickly stuffing it into her bag.

“Weasley, Weasley, Malfoy,” Snape cut in before they could leave.  That’s just when Ginny noticed all three of them had forgotten Ron, lying there on the floor, still unconscious.  “Wait-where’s Weasley?”  Snape looked over his desk, and found him lying on the floor.

“Er-he fainted, sir,” Ginny said awkwardly.

“Thanks, Miss Weasley, I had no clue,” Snape spat, acting dumb.  He waved his wand and Ron was floating in air.  He left the room, muttering something about “irresponsible teenagers”.

Draco turned to Ginny, who was shyly looking at her shoes.  “Well, thanks-er-Ginny.  Without you, I wouldn’t have gotten your brother that flipping mad.”  Ginny smiled.

“You actually mean it?  A Malfoy actually said Thank you??” She asked, looking heavenward.  “Thank you!” she whispered.

“I swear on Bob that I meant it!” He responded.

“Who?” Ginny asked, perplexed.

“Ah, Bob’s my stuffed elephant.  I’ve had him since I was a baby,” he answered, laughing.

“OK then...” Ginny trailed off.

“But I really mean it.  Thanks for helping me piss your brother off.”

“No problem, Draco,” she responded, beginning to walk away, but Draco stopped her.  He grabbed her wrist and spun her around, landing his lips on hers.

“Well, that was one eventful detention,” Draco mumbled as they walked out of the classroom…together.

A/N:  ahh, I love the smell of fresh challenges in the afternoon!  I hope you guys like this one.  It was a little thing I decided to do while waiting for my friend to e-mail me my story chapter.  I wrote it at her house, so she’s going to E-mail it to me so I can upload.  It’ll probably be up sometime today.  I hope you enjoyed this one!

Love,

P.S. If you ever have trouble writing, I find listening to the song “Are You Ready?” by Hazen Street very inspiring!
