1. DEATH EATER ATTACK
Harry Potter was not your average fifteen-year-old boy. He was a wizard. He was tall and scrawny, with jet-black hair
and brilliant emerald green eyes. He also had a thin, lightning-bolt shaped scar on his forehead, which he got from
deflecting a deadly curse back onto its originator.
Harry Potter hated his life. He hated everything about it. Recently, he had just learned about a prophecy that bound him
with Lord Voldemort: the most feared Dark Lord in over a century. He also hated the people he lived with. The Dursleys
were never nice to him. The Dursleys were muggles, and hated absolutely anything and everything that had to do with
magic.
The Dursleys pretended that Harry didn't exist. Ever since the warning the Order members had given them they just
stopped paying attention to Harry. Harry didn't mind it all, in fact, he enjoyed it.
Harry was glad that they didn't talk to him. He was in a state of mourning. He had just lost his godfather. He had been
dueling with his cousin, Bellatrix Lestrange, and had been hit with a spell, which had sent him falling into a veil. He
never came back out. As Harry thought of Bellatrix, an extreme anger inside him arose. He was mad at her for hitting him
with the spell, but was also mad at himself because he was the reason Sirius, his godfather, had been there in the first
place.
Harry spent most of his time up in his room, just reminiscing on his memories, the good and the bad. He had eaten fairly
little since he had arrived at Privet Drive for the holidays, and he was getting thin and pale. His stomach was growling
at him, angry with him for putting it through the torture of not being fed.
Harry's scar had also been torturing him since he got to the Dursleys. It would never stop burning, and the dreams he
had made it worse. Harry would often wake up in the middle of the night, vomiting from the pain.
*****************
After a week of being up in his room, Harry's Uncle Vernon decided to talk to him. In this case talk means yell until
you can't yell anymore.
“BOY, GET OUT HERE NOW!” he commanded. Harry obeyed and quietly got off his bed and walked out the door.
“WHY DO YOU JUST MOPE AROUND ALL DAY, DOING NOTHING! YOU SHOULD AT LEAST WORK AROUND THE HOUSE, CONSIDERING THAT WE FEED
YOU AND CLOTHE YOU AND PUT A ROOF OVER YOUR HEAD! STOP BEING SO UNGRATEFUL!” He shouted at the top of his voice. Dudley
and Aunt Petunia came to the source of the shouts, and watched in panic.
“You have no idea what I've been through.” Harry said quietly and menacingly.
“WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO YOU THAT WOULD MAKE YOU LIKE THIS!?!” Uncle Vernon roared.
“Do you really want to know what I've been through?” Harry asked.
“YES!” Uncle Vernon bellowed.
“Well, first off, do you know what it's like to grow up never knowing who your parents were?” Harry asked. Everyone in
the hallway shook their heads. “Well I do. And then, after losing my parents, I get sent here, to live with you, where
you guys treat me like I'm worse than dirt. I live doing what you tell me to do for ten years, never knowing what it
feels like to be cared for. I spent ten years of my life being a punching bag. Do you know what that's like?” Everyone
shook their heads no again. “Well then, when I finally turned eleven, I got mail for the first time in my life, only to
have it taken away. I finally learned that I'm a wizard, and I learned that I'm famous for not dying from the Killing
Curse like my parents and so many other wizards and witches did. I finally learned that you told me lies for ten years,
about everything in my life.”
“Anyway, when I get on the train to my school, I actually made a friend, Ron Weasley. This was something I had never
felt before because he,” he glared at Dudley, “never let me make friends. So naturally I enjoyed every bit of it. Well,
while I'm in my first year at my school, I already faced dangers.” Harry told them all about the things he faced in all
of his years so far, and how many times he escaped death. He told them all the horrible memories, which actually made
them gasp. When he was finished, his Aunt Petunia was very pale and shaking, and tears were forming in her eyes. Dudley
was frightened, and, to Harry's surprise, Uncle Vernon was looking sorry for him.
Finally, his Aunt managed to speak. “I-I'm so sorry Harry, for…for the way we…we treated you.” She quickly ran over to
him and gave him a hug, the tears falling freely. “I'm sorry about Sirius, Harry.”
Harry was close to tears. The people who had tormented him for the most part of his life were now worried about him.
“Well…we better…better be off to bed. Feel free to sleep in as long as you want, Harry. Good night.” His Uncle Vernon
said. With that, everyone retreated into their respective bedrooms.
Harry lay down on his bed, thinking about what just happened. He thought well into the late hours of the night, until he
drifted into sleep.
*****************
Harry was doing his Transfiguration homework, but couldn't concentrate. Him and the Dursleys were now on friendly terms,
and they actually started considering him as a member of the family. Harry was happier than he had been in a long time.
Harry was reading up on teleportation, when he heard a loud BANG. He looked out his window, and his face immediately
paled. Crowds of Death Eaters were destroying the Privet Drive neighborhood. Oh shit, they're looking for me! He
thought as he ran down the stairs into the kitchen. The Dursleys were standing far away from the front door, looking
horrified. Harry then heard a knock, and the door was blasted off its hinges. Harry immediately pulled out his wand and
shouted “Expelliarmus!” The Death Eater closest to him was thrown backwards from the force of the spell, and
Harry caught his wand. He began throwing spells at them, but there were just to many Death Eaters.
They had their wands pointed at him and the Dursleys.
“If you don't come with us, they die.” one of the Death Eaters said as they stepped toward him. Harry couldn't let the
Dursleys be killed, not since they had just started acting like a family. Harry pulled up all the strength he could,
pointed his wand at the Dursleys, and shouted “Teleportus” and they disappeared. Harry had sent them to somewhere
away from the Death Eaters.
One of the Death Eaters shouted “Stupefy!” and Harry was petrified.
“Okay, now lets just take him,” said one of the Death Eaters.
“No we can't, he has to come of his own free will.” answered another Death Eater.
“How about we just destroy the house, then he'll be dead. Our Master instructed us to kill him, so let's do it,” said a
different Death Eater.
“Fine.” said the second Death Eater. With the swoosh of several cloaks, they were gone. Just as Harry was reviving from
the stunning spell, he heard a couple of incantations, saw the Dark Mark in the sky, and thought about why his life had
to be this way, and of the last time he saw Hermione. He then felt immense heat and pain, before feeling nothing…

2. GRIEF
Hermione Granger awoke from a slight tapping sound coming from her window. She got out of bed and sleepily opened the
window. An official looking owl flew in and landed on her bed, dropping a copy of the Daily Prophet onto it. She
then paid the owl and watched it fly off into the distance. She groggily got dressed, picked up her copy of the Daily
Prophet and headed downstairs for breakfast.
“Morning sweetie.” Her mother said as she sat down. Her dad wasn't there, and she guessed he was already at the office.
She picked up some eggs, bacon, and toast, and put them onto her plate. She opened up her Daily Prophet as she
was eating and began to read. The title on the front page caught her attention.
Death Eaters Attack Little Whinging!
Wait a second. Isn't Little Whinging the town Harry lives in? She thought to herself. She read through the rest
of the article, tears forming in her eyes.
According to Ministry officials, the muggle town of Little Whinging was attacked Saturday by none other than
He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named's own Death Eaters. Apparently they were looking for something in the houses. The Ministry
officials arrived too late to help anyone caught in the attack…
Hermione couldn't bring herself to read the rest of the article. She read the list of casualties and stopped at the one
name she had feared to see.
Harry Potter.
She immediately dropped everything she had in her hands and started crying. She had never cried this much before. Mrs.
Granger saw that her daughter was crying and came over to comfort her.
“Honey, what's wrong?” she asked gently.
“H-Harry…he's…he's-“ She couldn't bring herself to say it. To say it would make it true. She just pointed at the
newspaper, which her mother picked up and read to herself. She read through the article and list of casualties, and
realized why her daughter was upset.
“Oh honey I'm so sorry!” She immediately embraced her daughter, trying to comfort her. Although Mrs. Granger tried to
stop it, she soon felt tears sliding down her cheeks.
*****************
Hermione spent the rest of the day locked up in her room, crying and mourning for her best friend. Her parents had both
taken the day off of work to be with her, but she wanted to be alone. She recalled all the memories of the times they
were together, which just brought pain.
“Why?” she said to herself in the darkness of her room, “Why did he have to be taken from me? He was my best friend, and
they stole him from me! Why did they have to kill the person that I…that I l-love!?!” She screamed into the night and
then lay down, reminiscing on old memories, which soon put her to sleep.
*****************
Remus Lupin was a wreck. He had lost all of his best friends, well maybe not all his best friends, but Wormtail was as
good as dead to him, and Harry. Everyone that he held dear was now dead. He just sat on his bed, staring into the night,
getting ripped apart on the inside from his grief. He could not control his grief. It kept him awake at night, and kept
him from eating. Every time he tried to swallow something it seemed to want to be thrown back up. The only thing he
could ever think of was Why?
*****************
Ron Weasley was in a state of denial. He would not accept the fact that Harry was dead. Not Harry, his best friend,
there's no way he could be dead. There's just no way! He thought to himself.
All the Weasleys were in a state of mourning for their fallen friend. Mrs. Weasley had sobbed non-stop, and Mr. Weasley
had a sort of lost expression on his face. Ginny had run straight up to her room once she heard the news, and began
crying as well.
*****************
Albus Dumbledore was sad as well. No, sad isn't a strong enough word. Albus Dumbledore was absolutely and utterly
depressed and full of grief. He had loved Harry like a son, and now he was gone. Gone forever from the face of the
earth, never to return again.
Albus Dumbledore was also worried. Now that Harry was gone, there would be no one to stop Lord Voldemort. Only Harry
could destroy him, but now Harry was gone. Lord Voldemort would now dominate the world.
*****************
Hermione spent the next few days staying up in her room, neither sleeping nor eating. She was depressed. Her parents
were getting worried about her. They tried to comfort her but she would push them away, wanting to be alone. She was mad
at the Death Eaters. She was mad at Voldemort. She was mad at everyone who had planned the murder of Harry Potter. She
would get her revenge someday.
*****************
Remus Lupin was on the brink of insanity. He had faced so much grief in his life that he was beginning to go mad. He
could not take it. He wanted to end his life now, get away from the pain and misery. He knew it was a selfish thing to
do, but he wanted to escape. Escape away from all of his emotions.
He walked over to the kitchen in Grimmauld Place, and picked up a knife. He pointed it at his throat, and let the blade
touch his skin. He closed his eyes, and tried to plunge the knife into his throat, but couldn't bring himself to do so.
He just stood there for twenty minutes, with the knife in his hand pointed at his throat. He heard the front door open
and footsteps come towards the kitchen.
*****************
“REMUS! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?” shouted a frightened Nymphadora Tonks. “PUT THE KNIFE DOWN!”
“No. I'm going to end my misery, right now. I've been in too much grief. My heart is broken and I'm torn up inside.” he
answered, not lowering the knife.
“NOOOO!” She cried out and ran over to him and slapped the knife out of his hands.
Remus seemed to come to his senses, and staggered back, afraid of himself for what he was going to do a minute ago. He
looked up at Tonks and saw that she was crying.
“I'm sorry Tonks. I've been through too much. I've lost everyone I love. I just can't take it anymore.” he said as tears
began falling down his cheeks. Tonks embraced him, trying to calm him down.
“It's alright Remus. Just please; don't do that ever again. I don't want you to leave.” Tonks said while sniffling
slightly.
They stayed in each other's arms for the rest of the night.
*****************
“HARRY!”
Hermione woke up in the middle of the night from a dream she had been having. She was with Harry, and they were happy.
They were a family, and having so much fun. Him and her were talking a moonlight stroll on the beach, hand in hand. They
were just talking about everything that was on their minds. They then stopped and looked into each other's eyes. They
lowered down, about to kiss, when Harry disappeared. That had been the part that had woken her up.
Hermione was in pain beyond anything she had felt before. She thought she would never recover from what had happened to
her. All of her thoughts were focused on Harry. Thinking about him finally put her into an uneasy sleep.

3. A DEAD MAN RETURNS
Harry Potter finally awoke aching all over. He thought that he had never hurt this much before. His brain was working in
slow motion, and his vision was blurry, and he finally realized that he wasn't wearing his glasses. There was something
heavy on him, and he tried to push it off, but he couldn't use his right arm. Every time he tried to move it, it would
send a jolt of pain throughout him. He tried to squeeze out from underneath it, which he succeeded in doing after a few
attempts. He felt around with his left hand, and found his glasses. He put them on, and noticed that they were cracked.
He felt around his pockets for his wand, but didn't find it. His right arm hurt so he decided to investigate what the
pain was coming from. He looked at his arm and saw that it was covered in blood and that there was a piece of wood about
the size of his wand going through his arm. Wait a second, that is my wand! He tried to pull it out, but whenever
he touched it, it would make him scream out in pain and agony.
He got up, and looked at his surroundings. He was in what seemed to be a burnt and broken home, and then it donned on
him that it was a home. All of the memories from the Death Eater attack came rushing back to him. He was standing in the
ruins of Number 4 Privet Drive.
He exited the house via what remained of the front door. As he stepped onto the street, the sight that greeted him was
not very pretty. All the Privet Drive houses were completely and utterly destroyed.
Harry just started walking. He didn't know where to go. He just aimlessly wandered around. His legs felt as if they were
on fire, and he didn't think he could walk much farther. He willed himself to keep moving.
He finally decided on where he was going to go. He was going to go to Hermione's house because he knew she lived
somewhere close by. He kept walking in the direction he thought Hermione's house was, and just kept on thinking Keep
walking.
He walked for the entire day. His lungs were beginning to burn, and Harry started coughing up blood. He had to get to
Hermione's house soon, or he would probably die from being in the bad shape he was in.
He passed through many neighborhoods; not knowing which one housed Hermione Granger. He went up to many houses and rang
their doorbells, asking if anyone knew where he could find Hermione Granger. The occupants of the house would just stare
at him, and then shake their heads no. Harry wasn't surprised by their stares. He couldn't imagine what he looked like
at the moment.
He kept on relentlessly walking, asking for Hermione Granger. Finally, he came upon a family that knew where she lived.
She told him the he had to keep walking straight to the intersection at the end of the road, turn left, and her house
was the eighth on the left. He thanked the family, and then continued on towards one of his best friends.
Harry finally reached the house, walked up to the front door, and rang the doorbell.
*****************
Hermione was sitting in the living room with her parents, talking to Professor Dumbledore, Remus Lupin, and the
Weasleys. They were scheduling to have a memorial for Harry at the end of the week. Hermione wasn't paying very much
attention, though. She was still grieving over Harry's death, and couldn't help weeping.
Remus Lupin was just staring at nothing, contemplating his thoughts. The thought that he nothing to live for was still
heavy on his mind.
They were just finishing up the conversation and the plans for the memorial, when the doorbell rang. Hermione quickly
excused herself, got up, and answered the door. The sight that greeted her was both joyous and devastating at the same
time. Joyous that Harry was still alive, devastating that he was on the brink of death.
“Help me…” was all Harry managed to say.
“HARRY!” She screamed and quickly went to his side.
Alerted by her screams, the rest of the group came running to the front door. They did not expect what they saw. They
saw a battered Harry with tattered clothes, burned skin, broken bones, cuts and bruises, and a piece of wood piercing
his arm.
“Oh my god Harry!” Everyone shouted.
Albus Dumbledore quickly stepped forward and picked him up with strength that did not seem to fit with his image.
“He needs to go to St. Mungo's!” Mrs. Weasley shouted, and Dumbledore quickly dissapperated. Everyone followed suit.
Those who could apperate, apperated. Those who couldn't, flooed to St. Mungo's. Hermione stood with her parents, still
weeping over Harry.
“D-do y-ou think he'll be…be all right?” she asked in between sobs.
“Of course.” Answered her mother to try to get her daughter to calm down. Hermione quickly ran to the fireplace, and
flooed to St. Mungo's. Her parents followed her.
*****************
“I don't know if we'll be able to save him, he's beat up too bad!” one of the healers exclaimed, madly rushing around
the ward to find necessary potions for Harry.
“You have to!” Hermione exclaimed as she looked at Harry who was lying upon a bed. His eyes were dead and lifeless, and
he was sickly pale. Blood was dripping out of the corners of his mouth, and he was having difficulty breathing. His
right arm was in an odd angle, and his wand was still impaled in it. He was also covered in bumps, bruises, and cuts.
A young female healer was busy trying to get Hermione out of the ward and calm her down, but was failing miserably.
Hermione was crying so hard that her eyes and lungs began to burn. She kept exclaiming, “Please don't die Harry! Please!
Please don't die!” She watched as Harry opened his eyes, and looked at her. A small painful smile, or at least what
could come close to a smile in his case, formed upon his lips. He mouthed the words “I…Love…You…” before closing his
eyes and drifting away.
Hermione could not contain herself. She howled from the pain. He couldn't have died! No! She fell unto her knees
while still sobbing, and was physically dragged away by several healers, and a very bloodshot eyed Remus Lupin. Remus
than embraced Hermione, and they both weeped for what seemed an eternity.

4. AZKABAN?
When Hermione woke, she immediately rushed back into the ward. She was relieved to find that he was still alive, and
quietly stepped over to him and sat down on a chair that was beside his bed. She took his hand in hers and squeezed it
gently. She thought about what he had said. He loved her? Hermione was glad to know that he loved her because she loved
him, with all of her heart and soul.
After about an hour, Dumbledore stepped into the ward. He quietly conjured up a chair and sat next to her.
“Hermione, there are some things that we need to discuss.” She looked up at him, and saw that his face was full of
worry.
“What, sir?” She asked.
“Follow me.” Hermione got up, and followed Dumbledore out the door.
*****
“He needs to be left alone.” A voice was speaking that Harry couldn't place.
“We have to take him.” Another voice said.
What are those voices? What's going on? Harry tried to open his eyes, but they weren't following his commands.
His body ached, and when he tried to move he felt a fresh stab of pain. Someone must of noticed his attempts at getting
up, because they soon spoke up.
“Look! He's moving!” Harry could recognize this voice, it belonged to Hermione. “Harry! Harry can you hear me?”
His brain seemed to be functioning on super slow mode, and he was having difficulty processing what was going on. He
finally managed a quiet and croaky “yes”, and Harry could hear sighs of relief. He managed to open his eyes, and saw
blurred images of people standing around him. Someone put on his glasses because the images were getting clearer. In his
now clear vision, he looked around, and saw that he was in an infirmary of some kind.
“Where am I? What happened?” He asked, looking at the people staring at him. He noticed that the Minister of Magic,
Cornelius Fudge, was there and was accompanied by several Aurors. “What's going on?”
“St. Mungo's. You have been unconscious for eight days. You gave us quite a scare.” Dumbledore said. “Cornelius, will
you and your guard please leave us for a moment, I must speak privately with Harry. Hermione you can stay here.” Harry
watched as the requested left.
“What's going on?” He asked again, starting to get nervous. He looked over at Hermione and saw that she was in tears. He
turned back to Dumbledore and saw that the twinkle in his eyes was gone.
“Harry, I'm sorry to say this, but your going to Azkaban.” Harry just stared at his Headmaster in shock. He was at a
complete loss for words. “W-why?” He asked, his voice quivering.
“Cornelius holds a slight grudge against you. You ruined his popularity, and now he's found evidence that can put you in
Azkaban. He has charged you for breaking into the Ministry and into forbidden parts of the Ministry. He also found out
about what you did to Bellatrix. Also, he came upon the Dursleys and asked them what happened, and they told him that it
was because of you the Death Eaters attacked. He believes you were the cause of the attack, and therefore places charges
on you for your indirect involvement with the deaths that occurred. I am sorry Harry.”
Why would they do this to him? Just because of some stupid grudge? How could the Dursleys do this to him? He had saved
their lives, and they had been on friendly terms, and now they testified against him? Harry felt his anger rise to the
surface. His river of hate broke through the dam that kept it at bay, and he let everything loose.
“WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS TO ME?!” Harry roared as loud as he could. He jumped out of the bed, pushing the pain away that
was jolting through him. Fudge rushed in, closely followed by his Aurors. They all had their wands out and pointed at
Harry. He looked around for his wand, but couldn't find it anywhere. “Give me my wand.” He spoke in a low, menacing
tone.
“I'm sorry but I can't do that Mr. Potter. Now, will you come quietly or will we have to use force?” Fudge looked at him
with hatred in his eyes.
“I'm not going at all.” Harry said matter-of-factly.
“Yes, you are. You're dangerous and need to be locked up.” He stepped towards Harry, who quickly backed up against the
wall. Fudge motioned for two guards, and they came carrying shackles.
Harry wouldn't let them take him, so he said the first thing that came to his mind. “Expelliarmus!” Amazingly,
Fudge's wand flew out of his hand and Harry caught it, but not fast enough to prevent getting punched in the stomach by
one of the Aurors. They quickly disarmed him, and chained his hands together behind his back. They shoved him into the
ground, and then just as quickly picked him back up and dragged him out the door. Harry took one last look at Hermione
and Dumbledore.
“Help me!” He cried out. Hermione was still sobbing, and her eyes were red and puffy.
“I've done all I can Harry.” Dumbledore replied looking gravely.
Harry looked at Hermione again, and quickly said to her, “I love you, remember that.” He was then dragged out of their
view by the Aurors.
*****
The trip to Azkaban had been painful. Harry had been punched and kicked whenever the Aurors felt he was getting out of
line, which was always. They had taken a portkey, and were now in the lobby of the prison. Harry could feel the familiar
icy coldness that seemed to dig at his very being, sucking away all the happiness. Fudge had led him to a very small
cell, which had more Dementors around it than all the other cells in Harry's line of sight.
After he was thrown into his cell, he had been chained to the wall, and unceremoniously beaten. The Dementors were
making him feel miserable. He could no longer think of anything happy. All of his worst memories came to the front of
his mind. And he watched as they were all replayed slowly in his mind. The death of his parents, in the room with a two
faced man, facing a basilisk, fighting hundreds of Dementors, the night at the graveyard, Sirius falling slowly through
the veil.
Fudge stepped into Harry's cell which brought him out of his memories.
“Welcome to Hell Mr. Potter. You are going to be in pain, agony, and misery for the rest of your life. You made me look
like a fool, and now you will pay.” Fudge looked gleeful, and Harry knew this wouldn't be good. He wasn't, however,
expecting what came next. “Crucio!”
