A Birthday To Remember Chapter: (1) A Birthday To Remember ~*~ "Harry! We've got to get out of here!" Hermione Granger cried as she rushed into the living room of the Granger home. "I know-but-how did they break through the wards? Where's the Order-?" CRASH! Sound of explosion reached their ears as a nearby window was shattered. Hermione screamed in surprise. "-Hermione!" Harry rushed forward and pulled his friend away from the window. "Come on, we can try going through the back," Harry suggested, leading his friend into the kitchen quickly. The two Gryffindors froze in their actions when they realized that the Death Eaters had already entered the house through the back. "Bloody Hell!" Harry cursed under his breath as he pulled Hermione out of the kitchen, dodging three hexes and spells. "Harry, do you have your wand?" Hermione asked as the couch in the living room went up in flames from a hex. "No, I forgot it upstairs..." Harry replied shamefully. "We've got to get it, mine's upstairs as well, without them we'll never make it out alive." Hermione stated; Harry swore angrily, knowing he had made a mistake by not bringing his wand with him when he went downstairs that morning. "Forget about the wands," Harry said at last, when he noticed the gun that hung above the fireplace in the living room; he had spent a few hours with Hermione’s father, learning how to use and load the rifle after he had found out the dentist had once been in the army. "Harry, what are you going to do?" Hermione asked when she noticed where Harry was staring. "Did your dad load it before he left?" was all Harry could ask. More charms and hexes went shooting through the door as he turned to face Hermione, waiting for her reply. "Yes. He always does." Hermione answered reluctantly. "I'm getting it." "Harry-" "You can't stop me Hermione," Harry stated as one of the paintings on the wall across the room from the door was destroyed, "even if it kills me I'm getting you out of here." "That wasn't what I was going to say..." Harry turned back to look Hermione in the eye. "Be careful. Please." Hermione begged, and Harry nodded his head. "I will," Harry whispered, leaning in and giving her a soft kiss, before pulling away. Not bothering to look to see if there were any hexes shooting his way, Harry safety rolled his way across the floor. Shouts could be heard from the Death Eaters as more hexes could be seen colliding into the living room objects. Harry made his way towards the fireplace quickly, and pulled the gun off the case, before turning around with a feeling of hope and happiness. It all disappeared when he saw who was standing next to Hermione. "Malfoy!"Harry hissed, raising the rifle and pulling the trigger. The bullet missed Lucius Malfoy's head by inches (shattering a picture frame in the process), but it didn't matter-he had Hermione in his clutches. "Cease the attack, I've got him," Lucius shouted as the attacks finally stopped. Three Death Eaters entered the living room from the kitchen entrance. Two of them, he recognized as Crabbe and Goyle Senior, for they didn't have their mask on, but the third, had his face covered. "Let her go," Harry demanded, reloading the gun and aiming it at Malfoy's head. "Don't even try Potter. You and I both know I can move her head into the way of the bullet by the time you pull the trigger. She'll never make it. Just put that muggle weapon onto the ground, and surrender to the Dark Lord." Malfoy said, pointing his wand at Hermione's head. "The hell I will-let her go Malfoy." Harry repeated himself; Malfoy Senior began to laugh. "Language Potter, or did that crackpot old fool forget to teach you your manner at that good for nothing school?" "Let her go Malfoy! Now!" Harry shouted angrily, aiming next to Malfoy, and pulling the trigger once more. Malfoy flinched as the picture frame next to him shattered, and the gl splattered into his skin, causing cuts. "I'm not joking!" Harry exclaimed, reloading the gun once more. He didn't know how many bullets the rifle had, and his hands shook as he shuddered at the thought of losing Hermione. "Neither am I Potter! I'll kill this mudblood if you don't put that weapon down!" Malfoy cried out, jabbing his wand into Hermione's head angrily, causing her to cry out in pain. Harry stared into the eyes of Hermione, and a look of pain appeared onto his face as he tried to make his decision. "Harry get out of here! Forget about me!" Hermione shouted across the room. Lucius Malfoy grabbed her by the hair and slammed her into the wall in punishment for speaking; Hermione screamed as a trickle of blood slid down her face. "Hermione!" Harry shouted, pulling the trigger again, this time, it hit it target, and Malfoy slipped to the floor, bleeding from the wound-Harry hit him right in the forehead, killing him immediately. "Father!" a voice Harry recognized as Draco' cried out as the Death Eaters began to aim curses and hexes in his direction. Harry jumped behind a couch as the fireplace was completely destroyed. He flinched when he heard a scream coming from the Death Eater' directions, knowing one of them was casting the Cruciatus on her. "Hermione!" he thought to himself, quickly getting to his feet. "Leave her alone Malfoy!" Harry shouted, when he realized it was Draco who had cast the unforgivable curse on her. "Why Potter? Why should I? You killed my father!" Draco cried out. "Let her go!" Harry' cry of anger somehow overlapped Hermione scream as he aimed the rifle and pulled the trigger. BANG! It hit Malfoy in the leg, and he fell to the ground in pain, therefore removing the curse off Hermione. BANG! The bullet hit Crabbe, and the overweight Death Eater went down. BANG! Goyle fell forward, causing a large shake in the house. "Hermione!" Harry said as he rushed forward, pulling his friend to her feet, and away from Malfoy. "Come on!" Harry chucked the gun at Malfoy, knowing perfectly well it was now out of bullets, and began to run towards the door with Hermione in his arms. "Harry, it hurts..." Hermione whispered in pain as Harry pulled open the door, and led the two of them into the cool night. It was nearly ten o'clock. Harry couldn' help but wonder where Hermione' parents were as he helped Hermione out of the house, and the two of them began to run down the streets as fast as they could. "Come on, we'e got to get out of here..." Harry mumbled, looking back to see if any of the Death Eaters had followed them. "Harry..." Hermione gasped in pain as she tripped over something and fell towards the ground. "Ah... my ankle..." Hermione whispered as tears formed in her eyes, threatening to fall. "Harry, just go! Leave without me!" "Never!" Harry growled in a tone that told Hermione he wouldn??t change his mind. He slipped his arm around her, and lifted her up easily, before continuing to walk away from the Granger home. "Harry..." "I' not leaving you! I love you too much to leave you behind!" Harry cried out as he stopped running, and stared into Hermione??s eyes. "You love me?" Hermione asked uneasily as Harry nodded. "Isn' this cute, Potty finally lets the Mudblood know he loves her..."a voice from behind said in a snide tone as Harry turned around, and growled slightly. "Malfoy..." Harry hissed as he placed himself in front of Hermione, away from harm. "Protecting the Mudblood are you? Like the Gryffindor you are?" Malfoy questioned. "Leave Malfoy! Before the Aurors come, and you'e placed in Azkaban!" Harry warned, but the Slytherin merely laughed. "Why Potter, I can' do that-ot until I'e given you your 'birthday present'! Crucio!" Harry pulled Hermione away as the curse collided into a nearby tree, and causing an explosion. "What are you talking about Malfoy? What birthday present?" "A present from the Dark Lord of course! Death and pain! Avada Kedavra!" Harry's eyes widened as the killing curse shot towards his direction, but was surprised when the curse shot by his head. It was only when he heard a thump behind him, did he realize Malfoy wasn't aiming for him. "Hermione!" Harry fell to his knees, and tears began to fall. "No! Hermione! Wake up!" Harry whispered, shaking her slightly, but she didn't wake. "You feel that Potter? Pain. Pain beyond your belief." Draco Malfoy stated, and Harry felt his heart break away. "No, Hermione... no!" Harry shouted as he turned to glare at Draco. "You killed her..." Harry hissed, raising his fist, "You bloody killed her!" Harry lunged forward and tackled the Slytherin to the ground, before beginning to pound away at him. Draco fought back, but soon afterwards, Harry felt a pair of hands pull him away from Draco. "No! Let me kill him!" Harry cried out as he pulled himself away from whoever had grabbed him, and made a movement to attack Draco again, before he could though, he was hit by a powerful hex. Flying a few feet into the air from the hit, Harry landed on his back painfully, and looked up to see a crowd of Death Eaters staring at him. One of the wizards stood out from the rest, and Harry felt his blood stop flowing. "Voldemort." He stared into the blood-shot red eyes of the monster, and suddenly, a burst of energy flowed through him. "Curse you! Curse you for doing this to me! You're the reason all this happened!" Harry exclaimed, raising his hand and pointing at the dark wizard. "I hate you..." Harry hissed, as tears flowed freely down his face. "Tears Potter, are a sign of weakness..." "It proves I'm human! Unlike you!" Harry stated, and Voldemort scowled. "I'll give you a chance Potter, to join my ranks. You can gain revenge from those you hate-those muggles you stay with-those mudbloods you call you friends-" "Never!" Harry cut into Voldemort's offer, before the wizard could even finish. "I'd rather die then join you Voldemort!" "I will grant you your wish..."Voldemort smirked, as he waved his wand. Harry shut his eyes, waiting for death, pain, and suffering to arrive, but it never came. Slowly, he opened his eyes, a look of surprise appeared onto his face when he saw what was in front of him. "Make your wish Potter. Wish that you were dead." Voldemort instructed as Harry stared at the birthday cake that floated in front of him. "What is this?" Harry looked up at Voldemort, who still had the smirk on his face. "A wishing cake Potter. Any wish you wish for will come true tonight. So why don't you spare me the trouble of killing you, and wish that you would die?" Voldemort suggested as Harry looked back down at the cake with a frown. He turned to Hermione, who lay on the ground motionless beside him. He thought of wishing her back, but knew perfectly well the Death Eaters would just kill her again... and wishing himself to be dead was not a good wish as well, for he knew it wouldn't work-after all, he could only be killed by Voldemort. "Come on Potter, hurry up now... make that stupid wish of yours, I'm running out of time here..." Time... Harry looked back up at Voldemort and his Death Eaters, and an idea slowly appeared in his mind. The question was, how he was going to ask it. He looked back down at the cake for a moment, and back up at Voldemort. The Dark Lord continued to smirk at him as the two wizards made eye contact with each other. But the smirk disappeared quickly, as Voldemort pushed past Harry's mind barriers, and realized what he was going to wish. "Kill him!" Voldemort shouted as the death eaters all raised their wands at the same time to kill him, but it was too late. Harry had already made the wish. "I wish to go back to time... to change all of this..." And with that, Harry Potter disappeared in a whirlwind of magic.
