Hermione's pregnant. Can Harry and her find the perfect name for their baby? From the Unofficial Portkey Archive: https://portkey-archive.org/story/4340/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Baby on Board Dear Reader, This is just one of those simple, short, basically pointless one shot type of fics. It's not meant to be taken seriously and it's just something I wrote last week when I was sort of bored and in the mood for writing something like this…something fluffy and simple. As always I will very much appreciate any and all reviews that I get, and I would like to thank you in advance to all those who read and review. So, yeah, thanks. Sincerely, Ink.Slinger ~ Baby on Board ~ “How about Hazel? Hazel is such a pretty name.” “Hazel? Hermione, that's a name a kid could get made fun of for.” “Uh huh, like the name Hermione?” said Hermione, her eyebrows rising testily. Harry grinned. “But I can't see you named as anything else. Your name is so unique it's beautiful and that certainly fits you…” “Yeah, sure…nice try at a save, Mr. Potter,” Hermione giggled, nudging her husband playfully. “How about Heath for a boy? I've always liked that name.” “Heath? Yeah, talk about getting made fun of.” “All right, then what about Olivia for a girl?” “One I thought we were searching for girl and boy names in the H's, and two that name is horrendous…every time someone says her name they'll be reminded of olives,” Hermione disagreed. “Fine, so this is harder than we thought,” Harry said as he stood. “Who would have thought choosing a name for a baby would be so complicated?” “I did…I mean this is going to be this child's name for the rest of her life,” Hermione said. Harry looked over at her with a curious eyebrow raised. “Her?” he repeated. “…Or him,” Hermione corrected herself. “You want a daughter, don't you?” “No!” “Yeah, you do…I can see it on your face,” Harry said grinningly. “Nuh uh, Harry, I don't care!” “…As long as it's a girl!” “Oh yeah, and the same with you,” Hermione said, now grinning back at her husband, “It doesn't matter what the baby is as long as it's a little boy with your green eyes and Quidditch skills?” Harry laughed as he scratched at the back of his head. It would be great to have a son, he had always dreamed of it. He had always wanted to be able to teach him how to play Quidditch and the finer points of sleeping in class without getting caught by a professor. “All right, so maybe I wouldn't mind so much if it were a boy,” Harry admitted. “I knew it,” Hermione said. She stood up and walked over to her husband. He put his hands on her waist as he looked into her eyes and waited for what she was going to say next. “I knew you were playing favorites,” she told him. “Hermione I saw the little pink pair of pajamas you bought last week. Somehow I doubt that was bought for a baby boy,” Harry joked. “At least I hope it wasn't…” Hermione blushed deeply. “You - You saw those?” “Yes, I did,” he said. “I also saw the pink socks, the pink diapers, and the pink and white teddy bear.” “Oops,” Hermione giggled. “So maybe I also am playing favorites. It's just…I've always wanted a daughter.” Harry grinned as he put his hand to her cheek and said reassuringly, “We'll have both, don't worry. We'll all be a big family together. A big, perfect family together.” “That sounds wonderful.” “But remember I want you to take things easy. You're due any day now, Hermione,” Harry reminded sternly, kissing her lightly on the lips before he released her and started toward the kitchen of their home. “I know, I know…you don't have to remind me,” Hermione said. Harry was always concerned and worried about her, especially lately since the baby was almost there. She loved it when he was, it made her feel special. Not that he never made her feel special, he made her feel loved and special everyday of her life. Each day was a paradise being married to Harry Potter. “I'm hungry. I think I want another snack,” she said. Harry chuckled as he asked, “All right. What do you want? Anything you want, I'll fix it for you. Just have a seat and relax.” “Harry…” Hermione trailed off. “Yes, love?” he replied. “You don't have to do everything for me. I mean I can do it myself.” “Nonsense. You need to relax. Besides, I don't mind doing things for you, Hermione, isn't that a tad obvious? You're my wife for life,” he told her, “How about I fix you your favorite, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich?” Hermione smiled wide at the thought of a very delicious peanut butter and jelly sandwich. She became quite hungry at the thought of any food nowadays, but her main weakness was peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Ever since she had gotten pregnant it had become her favorite snack. “Okay,” she agreed. She followed him into the kitchen and stood by the door, watching him as he fixed her snack. She loved to just stare at him sometimes; she loved to marvel at this man that she was married to, sometimes wondering how she, just one person, could be so lucky. “I just thought of two more names,” Harry said as he fixed the sandwich, “How about Brendan for a boy and Rebecca for a girl?” “Hmmm…Brendan is all right, but I've always held a secret loathing for the name Rebecca,” Hermione said, thinking over the two names with a slight frown. “But neither of them are really the perfect names for our child, don't you think?” “Yeah, you're right…I think we'll both absolutely agree when we've found the perfect name,” Harry supposed. Hermione nodded as her eyes dropped down onto the kitchen floor. She couldn't see her feet anymore, she hadn't been able to for a few months now and that sincerely bothered her. Her stomach was just so round. She couldn't wait until she had the baby that way she could get her old figure back. “I cannot wait until I lose this weight,” Hermione remarked suddenly. Harry looked over his shoulder at her for a second before he continued with the sandwich. She complained daily about this and he didn't see why. She was just as beautiful and just as attractive. She was the prettiest pregnant woman on the earth. “You're beautiful,” he told her, “You're beautiful no matter what, Hermione.” Hermione smiled slowly as he handed her the plate with her sandwich on it. He always was there to say things like this, things that ended her fears and worries, things that made her laugh and smile, and things that put an end to any insecurity she ever had. She really did feel beautiful when she was with him, and she had learned something very important when with Harry. He had taught her that beauty wasn't just a look, but it was also a feeling, too. To be beautiful you had to feel beautiful, and she always did when around Harry. “Thank you,” she whispered. He put his arm around her and kissed her on the forehead as they walked back into the living room and sat down on the sofa to continue talking about possible baby names. They knew if they thought about it and discussed it enough, they'd find the perfect name. “What about something very simple like Ann?” “Ann? Too short.” “Okay,” Harry said, thinking hard, “I guess that rules out Tom.” She nodded. “Why don't we name him or her after a famous witch or wizard?” “If a kid would get teased for the name Hazel and Heath, I think that would be worse, naming a boy Godric or a girl something like Artemisia.” “Good point,” Hermione realized. She sighed as she looked out the nearby window where their backyard was visible. She could just see their children frolicking in the backyard now, smiles on their faces and the sound of laughter echoing everywhere. She snuggled closer to Harry on the sofa, resting her head on his chest as the two enjoyed the content silence. Harry put his hand on her stomach, like he always did, marveling at the fact that inside lived their child, the creation of their love for each other. It almost brought tears to his eyes every time he thought about it, that he was finally getting the real family he had dreamed of since he was a boy, and there was no other woman he knew that could ever be the mother of his children. “I think I felt the baby kick,” Harry said in awe. Hermione giggled as she looked at his amazed face. She could already see how much he loved this baby. “I just had an idea, Harry. If it's a boy, why don't we name him after your dad James? I've always loved that name…I think it's a wonderful boys name. And if it's a girl we can name her Lily after your mum,” she suggested. Harry actually liked this idea. The thought of naming his son and daughter after his deceased parents was a touching one. He knew that if they could see this right now, they'd certainly be more proud than words could ever say. “But - But what about your parents?” Harry asked. “Who says we're only having two children?” Hermione asked in return, a playful smile on her face. Harry grinned as well and kissed her. He was just so overjoyed now. If possible he was more excited about the baby now. “I hope the baby comes out with your eyes,” Hermione said, and again she stared into his deep, dark emerald eyes, those amazing eyes that were like none other she had ever seen before. “I hope the baby has your smile.” “Well, hopefully the baby will have your hair.” “And your forehead,” Harry laughed. Hermione laughed too. “Of course hopefully he or she will have your Quidditch skills.” “…And your intelligence.” “Let's not forget about your courage and compassion.” “Or you're logic and common sense,” Harry replied, feeling as if he could name things he hoped their child got from Hermione all night long. There were so many things he loved about her; it would be impossible for him to run out. “Let's face it, our children are going to be not only intelligent but good Quidditch players with bravery and good judgment.” “Not to mention beautiful eyes,” Hermione said. “And also your beautiful face,” Harry complimented. She smiled at him gratefully and lay her head back against his chest. Out of nowhere, Harry let out a laugh. Hermione looked up at him curiously and he replied, “Sorry…I was just thinking about how funny it would be if our son or daughter went to Hogwarts and met two very, incredibly amazing best friends. What would be even funnier is if they all got into mischief with each other.” “Yeah, that would be nice,” Hermione agreed, “They'll be the new trio.” “And maybe they'll fall in love with their best friend,” Harry thought aloud, tightening his embrace on Hermione a little, “…Just like we have.” Hermione suddenly sat up, disentangling herself from Harry's arms. Her eyes were wide and round, as big as a Galleon and Harry looked at her in question and wondered what was wrong. “Harry.” “Yeah?” “I just had a very urgent thought.” “What is it?” “What about the middle name? What is his or her middle name going to be?” Hermione asked him, turning her head to look at his expression. “I never really gave it much thought,” Harry admitted. “It has to be something that sounds beautiful with both James Potter and Lily Potter,” Hermione explained, “The middle name should be something shorter.” “How about Ann?” “Ann?” Hermione repeated, “Didn't you already suggest that?” “Oh yeah,” Harry remembered, frowning. “But Ann's a good name. And Tom.” “James Tom Potter? Harry, that doesn't go…” “Okay, then you think of something that's better than Ann and Tom!” “Marie?” “Too typical.” “Stephen?” “Are you kidding?” She laughed. “Um…what about Michelle? I think that's a lovely middle name,” Hermione commented as she touched his smooth cheek before planting a delicate kiss there. She rested her head on his shoulder, nuzzling the appealing skin of his neck. “Michelle, maybe.” Harry was too distracted by what Hermione was doing to remember that he really actually hated the name Michelle. “This is impossible,” Hermione whispered, her soft whisper tickling the skin of his neck. “I know.” “What?” she looked up from his shoulder again and watched his eyes land on her. “How about nothing?” “Nothing?” “Yeah, nothing. How about our baby doesn't have a middle name?” Harry said suggestively, “I think it's all right if they don't. What do you think?” Hermione's lips curved into a smirk. She really liked this idea. It was so simple and brilliant at the same time that it was perfect. “And you say I'm brilliant,” she joked with a scoff. “You are,” Harry said, “And it's a good thing that our children will be, too.” “Yeah…” Hermione trailed off, allowing the content silence to fall again. The couple sat there in muteness, in each other's arms, staring at the lovely living room of their home, glad that they were here being a dull married couple even if they were still very young, than out at some party or bar like Ron, Luna, Ginny, or anyone else would be. All of a sudden, Hermione seemed to have another urgent thought. She pulled away from Harry's arms yet again and said, “I just had a thought.” “What?” “What if it's twins or triplets or etcetera?” She asked, “Naturally, we'll have to think of more names!” “You're right,” Harry agreed laughingly, stroking her hair tenderly, “Especially since you don't seem too fond of Ann…” ~ Finis ~ -->
