1. The Arrival

Title: Summer Refugee

Chapter: (1) The Arrival

Author: Laen

Summary: Continues after the first chapter of Year of Discovery. Make sure to read that before you read this. It's only one chapter. Basically, Kazu teaches Harry to live... but before he can do that, he must teach Harry how to protest himself properly.

Disclaimer: If I were J.K. Rowling, do you seriously think I'd be writing fan fiction?

Tears streamed down Harry's face, many tear drops splattering the ink in the letter.

“Harry...” Kazu whispered, looking at the young wizard with a pained look on his face.

“I'm sorry...” Harry apologized, falling to his knees, and beginning to sob.

“I shouldn't have attacked you... I'm so sorry...” Harry said between sobs, struggling to control his tears.

“Let it out Harry, just let it out...” Kazu mumbled, placing a hand on Harry's shoulder.

Harry did as he was told.

Kazu watched soberly at the young teenage boy wondering why, of all people was Harry Potter the one chosen to be in the prophecy with Tom Riddle.

Meanwhile, Harry James Potter lay fast asleep on the comfy bed in a room that was to be his for the next month. It was decorated green and silver, colors the previous owner liked. Kazu would have to check with Harry afterwards to make sure what he wanted the colors to be like.

Exhaling a deep breath, Kazu stood up from the seat next to the bed, and headed out of the room. There were a few things on the shopping list for Harry in which he hadn't gotten yet. Pulling the list out of his robes, Kazu read the first un-ticked one.

“Cellular Mobile. I wonder what Sirius was thinking when he asked me to do this...” Kazu mumbled to himself as he shoved the list back into his robes, and disappeared within a blink of an eye.

Boy-Who-Lived goes Missing!

Less then 24 hours ago the Ministry was suddenly alerted of the sudden disturbance at the home of young Harry James Potter, a.k.a. the boy-who-lived. When Ministry authorities arrived at the scene, they were shocked to find Mr. Potter missing from the household. When interviewed, the muggles that Mr. Potter stayed with during his summer break stated that Mr. Potter had been having issues during nighttime, and would wake up screaming bloody murder.

Neighbors in the neighborhood confirmed their story that Mr. Potter had been screaming during the nighttime, but according to one of the elderly women in number five, Privet Drive, they hadn't seen young Potter leave the house all summer.

Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts has now issued a reward for the safe return of Mr. Potter, and after interviewing one of the staff members at Hogwarts this reporter has dug up some interesting news.

“I knew this would happen, I warned Dumbledore, I told him not to let Potter return to those pathetic excuses of muggles he refers to as relatives, but no, Dumbledore wouldn't listen! He just had to send him back. Safe from you-know-who... bah!” The staff member in questioning has requested to remain anonymous.

Many people have owled in stating they saw he-who-must-not-be-named enter the house in which Mr. Potter stayed at and kidnapped him, but besides that there is no proof or evidence that Mr. Potter has been kidnapped.

According to Auror Kingsley Shacklebolt, the wards surrounding the house hadn't been tampered with, and only someone who had permission from Mr. Potter's guardian, who is now Headmaster Dumbledore can enter the house.

One of Mr. Potter's classmate from Hogwarts who remains unknown explained in a letter that Sirius Black was once Potter's guardian, and perhaps he was the one who had entered the house and took Potter away.

Ministry authorities are currently looking into the matter. Any immediate updates will be announced to the public through the Daily Prophet. If anyone has any idea where the location of Mr. Potter is, please alert Albus Dumbledore or the Ministry Aurors.

Minister Fudge was unreachable, and therefore wasn't interviewed.

“How could this news get out?” Alaster Moody asked in disbelief, slamming a copy of the daily prophet down onto the table in the meeting room at number twelve, Grimmauld Place.

“Someone might have overheard us talking at the ministry...” Tonks began to suggest, but Moody cut in with a vicious look on his face.

“No, there's charm placed on every order member. Unless they meant for someone else to hear any Order business, the eves-dropper would have only heard you ramble on about cauldron bottoms! No... There's a leak in the order... we have a traitor among us,” Moody finished dramatically, his magical eyeball spinning around in his eye socket, pausing every now and then to glare at each order member.

Fred and George, who were new to the order both gulped. They had just joined at the start of the summer, and were keeping an eye on Diagon Alley for Dumbledore. Unfortunately, they weren't quite used to Moody's eyeball yet.

“Snape! Did you let slip of this to Voldemort?” Moody began to question each of the members, starting with the most suspicious.

“How dare you accuse me of being a traitor?” Snape cried out as he jumped to his feet, slamming his fist down on the table.

“I speak only what's on my mind Snape.” Moody hissed, his magically eye bulging out of its eye socket.

Moody was about to speak again when suddenly, his magically eye popped out, and rolled across the table. A few people turned away in disgust. If it weren't such a serious situation, Fred and George probably would've been laughing their heads off.

“Bloody... blasted eye...” Moody growled, pulling his wand out and accio-ing the eyeball back into his hands.

“Ewwww...” Tonks shuddered, refusing to meet Moody's eyes. She was in obvious disgust.

“Forget the eye, what about Harry?” Mrs. Weasley asked, not at all grossed out by Moody. She had obviously seen worse from the twins.

“Yes, Potter... Albus, you know perhaps you can...” Moody gave Dumbledore a look, but Dumbledore shook his head.

“I have no right to go searching for answers in people's heads especially if the answers aren't there Alaster...”

“Then bring out that bloody truth potion—no wait, that wouldn't work, Snape would've been the one who'd have brewed it, and I don't trust him—”

“What about you? For all we know you may be another imposter under the polyjuice potion!” Snape leaped to his feet and began accusing Moody.

The Order of Phoenix meeting continued on for a few more hours before Dumbledore was finally fed up and decided to end the meeting.

Warm... so warm... but something cooling was on his face...

Harry reached up and touched his right cheek. It was wet with what seemed like fresh tears. Harry shut his eyes in shame, not wanting to accept the fact that he had burst into tears in front of a total stranger...

`But he's not a stranger! He's Sirius' friend. Sirius' mentor. Perhaps even your mentor,' a voice that sounded like Hermione said inside his head.

Hermione...

Ron...

Ginny...

Luna...

Neville...

Harry thought back to the event that occurred over a month ago in the Department of Mysteries. Shuddering slightly, Harry forced himself to relive the memory in his mind.

It was all his fault. He was the reason Ron got attacked by the brains... the reason Neville's dad's wand ended up getting snapped... the reason Ginny, Luna and Hermione were all placed in danger... especially Hermione...

Harry sighed.

For the last few weeks, he had received no owls from his friends at all. It was rather similar to his second year, except this time Dobby wasn't around to steal his letters. Dobby was at Hogwarts.

He missed them.

He missed reading their letters, no matter how short, no matter how simple the topic may seem... he wished at that moment he could just read a letter from Hermione or Ron. Even if it just said they couldn't tell him a single thing. Heck, a letter from Malfoy even sounded good. With Malfoy, he could at least send a howler back as a reply.

A month's worth of no magic had so far, been absolute torture for the poor teenager. Every night he would have nightmares about Voldemort, and Sirius... and the worse one of all... the prophecy.

It was the reason his life had been flipped upside down. He was singled out from millions of people. He was the chosen one. The one who has the power to defeat Voldemort.

But he didn't want to fight Voldemort. Harry was barely sixteen years old. He was happy enough to have lived to this age. He didn't want to continue living thinking everyday that he could probably be dead the next day because Voldemort attacked.

That was the main reason he had broke down. The prophecy had been a lot of weight on him. Besides the usual nightmares Harry got, he was also receiving dreams from Voldemort. Or more likely, a visit from hell.

During the first few days of summer holiday, Harry did okay, trying to avoid the topic of Sirius, and basically avoid anything and everything. Then, four days after returning, everything changed. Voldemort decided to attack him. Mentally.

Because of the fact that Snape had never properly taught Harry how to protect his mind from Voldemort correctly, Harry began to avoid sleeping. Of course, that was never easy. A week and a half later into summer, Harry was hooked onto coffee.

He had once heard his aunt ramble on about how horrible the stuff was, but his uncle seemed to love it. One night after waking up from a horrible nightmare, Harry decided to go into the kitchen and boil himself a cup a coffee.

Of course, the first cup wasn't that great, but a few nights later Harry began to get the hang of it. There were times where Harry's tiredness caught up to him and he collapsed dead asleep, but he was normally awake a few hours later after waking up screaming from the nightmares.

By the time his birthday rolled by, his life had officially turned into a living hell. When Kazu visited him, he had just collapsed and began to fall asleep. Not thinking straight in the head, he agreed to go along without truly knowing the entire situation. Of course, when he was told of the situation, his caffeine filled mind broke down, and the waterworks began.

As Harry continued to think about the situation, he was suddenly pulled out of his thoughts when the door opened. The man who rescued him from the Dursleys, Kazu, walked into the room wearing a white golf shirt and a pair of grey baggy pants. In his hands, were a bag filled with what looked like clothes, and even what looked like a pair of trainers were stuffed in there..

“I see you're finally awake.” Kazu mumbled, sitting down on the seat next to the bed.

“You alright?” Kazu asked, giving him a worried look.

Harry nodded his head, and looked away not watching to meet Kazu's eyes.

“I got you some clothes, and a new trainer. I've no idea if they'll fit... but let me know if they're too big or too small... I can go exchange them with you.” Kazu placed the bag onto the table next to the bed Harry laid on.

Kazu got up to leave, but as he reached the door, he heard his name being called out. He turned around to meet Harry's eye.

“Thanks.”

Kazu smiled weakly, then turned around and left.
