FYI: this was the summary for Fanficiton, but I've changed it, because originally, the story was just going to be about the dance.

CHAPTER ONE: TRAIN RIDE

It was known fact that Lily Evans didn't particularly like James Potter. It was also known that James Potter had liked Lily Evans for quite sometime, but Lily wouldn't go out with him. (Shush! Don't tell them that they end up married with a beautiful baby boy) James and his friends, Sirius, Remus, and Peter, were the biggest pranksters in the school. (If you don't know the school by now, why are you even here? Go read the books and find out the school!) While James was very full of himself, Lily had to admit, James wasn't bad looking. And she didn't hate him as much as she hated his huge ego. If he would just deflate his head and quite hexing people just because he can, Lily would actually give him a chance and possibly go out with him.

Lily was walking onto Platform 9 at Kings Cross Station on the morning of September 1^st.

“Lily!” came a girl's squeal.

Lily turned around to see Haley James (not the one on OneTreeHill lol), Lily's friend, running towards her. Haley dropped her bags and hugged Lily. Lily set down her stuff, too.

“Haley!” Lily said. “How are you?”

“Good. Seen Megan?” Haley asked.

“Not yet,” Lily said. Haley picked up her luggage and her and Lily crossed through the barrier.

“Well we've still got 20 minutes,” Haley said.

They sat their luggage down, Haley sitting on hers. They looked around hoping to see their friend, Megan Sawyer. After a couple of minutes, Haley spotted an empty compartment and grabbed as much luggage as she could, saying she was going to go save the compartment for them. Lily decided to stay and watch for Megan.

“Lily!” said a girl's voice.

Before Lily had time to turn around and look, she was being picked up and spun. Lily saw the person's face, which was non-other than James Potter. She saw him close his eyes and before she could yell at him, his lips were covering hers. She felt her eyes close.

She was set down on the ground. James was strong, she could tell. No doubt it was from all those years of Quidditch training.

His lips are warm, Lily thought, No! No! I can't be thinking that!

There were people all around wolf-whistling and whooping and screaming, James' friends included. The loudest of all by far was Sirius Black. Remus rolled his eyes, but whistled, too.

James pulled away after a few seconds, both of them opening their eyes. James licked his lips, still looking at her lips. “Mmmmmm,” came from James' mouth. His eyes flickered up to her eyes. Lily looked back into his eyes.

“Oh . . . my . . . go! You guys finally hooked up!” came Megan's voice.

“Yep,” said a very proud James, his eyes never leaving Lily's.

“No, we didn't, Megan,” Lily said. “Now Potter, please put me down now!”

“You know you liked it,” James said. He gave her a quick peck on the cheek before putting her down.

“You wish, Potter!” Lily said.

“Yeah, I do,” James said, winking at her. He walked over to his friends, who were grinning. Sirius had the biggest smile. He turned around to face Lily and yelled, “Lookin' good this year, Lily! But then again - you always do!”

Lily rolled her eyes and turned back to Megan, whose mouth was still a gap.

“Shut up!” Lily said. They walked to the compartment where Haley was.

“Megan!” Haley said, excitedly, then stopping when she saw Megan's mouth open. “Why are you looking at Lily like that?”

“I can not believe you kissed James Potter!” Megan said. Lily turned to Haley just in time to see her eyes got big at hearing this.

“What?! You kissed Potter?!” Haley asked.

“No!” Lily said.

“Good, you were starting to scare -”

“He kissed me,” Lily said.

“But you've still kissed James Potter! Do you know how many girls want to do that?” Haley said.

Yes, Lily did know how many girls were jealous of her for having James want her so much.

“But . . . I didn't do it willingly!” Lily protested.

“But you still did, and you closed your eyes, and you didn't pull away,” Megan pointed out.

“I couldn't! He was holding me too tight!” Lily said.

“But you closed your eyes,” Megan said.

“I didn't mean to,” Lily muttered.

“Was it at least a good kiss?” Haley asked, innocently.

“Shut up,” Lily said, glaring at them.

“Hey guys,” Remus' head popped into the compartment.

“Hey Remus,” Lily said.

“What's up?” Haley asked.

“Can we sit here? Everywhere else is full,” Remus said.

“Sure Remus,” Haley said, moving her stuff off the seat by her. Megan smiled at Lily as James came in.

“Shut up,” Lily mouthed.

James sat across from Lily, surprising quite a few people. Lily raised her eyebrows at him. Remus sat down next to Lily. Lily looked at James over the top of her book. She wondered why he hadn't chosen to sit next to her; especially after what he did earlier. He must've felt her stare on him because he looked over at her. Lily raised her eyebrows at him. James winked and smiled at Lily; Lily rolled her eyes.

The train whistle blew and they started to move. James got up and walked to the door and slid it open, muttering to Sirius, “Going to the loo,” after Sirius looked at him. Sirius winked at him.

A little bit later, Lily leaned over to Haley and whispered in her ear, “Got to go to Head's meeting. See ya later.” Haley then told Megan.

Lily got up and went to the Head's compartment. When she got there, she was surprised to find a grinning James Potter waiting for her. He looked at her up and down and down and up, then met her eyes; a smile playing on the corner of his mouth.

“Um, Potter, this isn't the loo,” Lily said, closing the compartment door and stepping farther in.

“Oh! So that's why there aren't any toilets!” James said, hitting himself on the forehead.

“You are gonna be a horrible Head Boy, Potter. Now, go be stupid somewhere else,” Lily said, looking him directly in the eye. She could tell that he was looking in her eyes also.

“Aww, but you're here Lily,” James said, taking a step closer to Lily. Lily took a step back, her heart started beating faster.

“Potter,” Lily started, crossing her arms, “What do you want?”

“I thought that was obvious,” James said, taking another step closer to Lily. “I want you.” Lily another step back; she was now backed up against a wall.

“James . . .” Lily said, almost warning him. James took a half - step and was right in front of Lily.

“Lily . . .” James said gently, cupping one of her cheeks, lightly. He lightly rubbed her cheek with his thumb.

Oh god, he's going to kiss me, Lily thought.

“Why do you hate me so much?” he asked, softly.

Honestly, she didn't hate him. She disliked extremely, but not hated, how he was so full of himself.

“J-James, I-I-I d-don't -” Lily started.

“Hi - oh, sorry,” said a prefect. James let go of Lily and took a few step back, never taking his eyes off of Lily.

“That's okay, come on in,” Lily said to the boy, but looking at James still.

(A/N: I have a Question for ya, my English teacher gave my writing a C+, do you agree?? If you had to grade my writing what would you give it??

CHAPTER TWO: FLIRTING

After all the prefects had arrived, Lily and James started the meeting. Mostly Lily though; James introduced him self and Lily and let her take over. They handed out passwords and patrolling stations.

Before Lily left, James grabbed her arm. “You never answered my question,” he said, looking her in the eyes.

She looked back in his eyes and said, “We have to go patrol, James.” James let go of her, shocked that she had called him by his first name. Lily was also slightly shocked herself. He went to his station thinking about it.

It was almost time to go back so everyone could get changed; James went to where Lily was patrolling. He hid in an empty corner until she walked by. He grabbed her by her waist and pulled her close to him.

“Can I be your favorite memory?” he whispered in her ear. She smiled.

“James . . .” she started. “That's sweet . . . but, not likely.”

“What if I've changed? In a good way?” he asked.

“Then, there might be hope,” she said. “Come one, we have to go get dressed.”

“Can I watch?” James asked.

“Not likely, Potter,” she said, rolling her eyes.

They arrived at Hogwarts shortly, ate and were told where the Head dorm was. Lily and James set up a time and Saturday to have a prefect meeting. Though, they weren't sure why Dumbledore wanted them to have a meeting to do a few more fun things at Hogwarts.

“So . . . any ideas?” Lily asked after explaining why they were having this meeting.

“A Back-to-School Hogsmeade Trip!” a Hufflepuff prefect suggested.

“Okay . . .” Lily said, writing it down.

“A dance,” James said.

“What?” Lily asked.

“A Back-to-School dance,” James said.

“Yeah!”

“Great idea!”

“Sounds like fun!” various prefects said.

“Okay,” Lily said to James. “You're in charge.”

“M-me? What? Why?” James was caught off guard.

“It was your idea,” Lily said. “So it's only fair.”

“Okay . . . um . . . we'll have a student band play. That way we don't have to pay the band and we can hear something new,” James said. Lily wrote all of this down. “Any they'll audition of course.”

“Of course,” Lily said. “Good idea, James.” James smiled.

The rest of the afternoon/meeting, they planned the dance. They would get to go to Hogsmeade then have the dance that night. The prefect would hang up signs for it that day after lunch. After they had all the details planned out, Lily and James dismissed the meeting and started walking towards the Great Hall.

“That was a really good idea, James,” Lily said, smiling at him.

He smiled, too. “That means a lot coming from you, Lily,” he said. “So, Lily, Hogsmeade trip coming up . . . I was thinking maybe you and me could . . . go, together?”

“Potter, don't push it, we're having a moment,” Lily said.

“But isn't that the perfect time to ask you out?” James said. Lily sighed. She knew he was right. “So you'll think about it?”

Lily just rolled her eyes and headed off for lunch. She stopped at the end of the hall.

“Comin' or what, Potter?” she asked. He jogged up to catch up with her, but they didn't start walking again.

“I knew you wanted me,” James said.

“Shut up, Potter,” Lily pushed him playfully.

“I knew you'd fall for the Potter Charm, eventually. No one can resist it,” James said.

“Thus far. But how can you be so sure I will?” Lily tilted her head to one side.

“I've got a feeling,” James said, a smile playing on his lips.

“Have feelings about me often, Potter?” Lily asked raising an eyebrow and smiling with a corner of her mouth.

“Of course,” James said.

She stepped closer to him, smiling up at him. “That's sweet,” she said and kissed him on the cheek. “Who knew that The James Potter could be sweet?”

“There are a lot of things about me you don't know,” James said. “Wanna find out more about me?” James wiggled his eyebrows.

“Aw James, can we do it after lunch? I'm hungry,” Lily said, sweetly, flirting with him.

I can't believe I'm flirting with him, Lily thought, but he seems like he really has changed, we'll see if it's true.

I can't believe she's flirting with me! James thought.

“Um, yeah . . . sure, af-after lunch,” he spitted out. Lily giggled, he was never nervous around her.

“Come on,” she said.

They walked to the Great Hall. They sat a few seats away from each other, each sitting by friends.

“Lily where were you?” Haley asked.

“Nowhere,” Lily said.

“Yeah, nowhere with James Potter,” Megan said from across the table.

“We were just talking,” Lily said.

“If you say so,” Haley said.

“Hey, Prongs, where were ya?” Sirius asked James when he sat down.

“Prefect meeting,” James said.

“Really? Well, how come Remus and the rest of the prefects came in 5 minutes ago?”

“Well, after the meeting I was talking to Lily,” James said slowly.

“Ah, now I see,” Sirius said.

“She didn't yell at you?” Remus asked, looking up from his book.

James grinned. “Nope, she flirted with me.”

Sirius' jaw dropped. “She what?”

“She flirted with me,” James said.

“Lily?” Sirius asked. James nodded. “She flirted? With you?” James grinned again.

“Yes, Sirius she flirted with me,” James said.

“Lily Evan?!” Sirius said loudly.

They looked over at Lily, who was looking over at them with an eyebrow raised. She looked at James and smiled at him. She got up from where she was sitting and walked over. She sat down next to James.

“Talking about me boys?” Lily asked.

“Just how you should try out for the Quidditch team this year,” Sirius lied.

“Uh-huh,” Lily said.

“Really, you've got the body for it. A small frame, -OW! James?!” James had kicked Sirius in the shin.

“Can I talk to you after lunch?” Lily whispered in James ear. He nodded. “I'll get you when I'm done.” Lily went back to her friends.

A few minutes later, Lily got up and walked past James. She turned to look at him over her shoulder. James watched her the whole time.

“See ya later guys,” James said and got up.

“You're ditching your friends for some chick?!” Sirius said.

“Duh!” James said and jogged over to Lily.

“Sirius, think about what you just said,” Remus said.

CHAPTER THREE: Good Nights Indeed

“So where'd you want to talk?” James asked Lily.

“Um, can we go out by the lake?” Lily asked.

“Yeah, sure,” James said.

They walked out to the lake in silence.

“James,” Lily said as they stood by the edge of the lake.

“Yeah?” James said.

“I didn't bring you out here to talk,” Lily said.

“Wha-what do ya mean, Lils? Are you falling for the Potter Charm finally?” James asked.

“No! I want to go for a swim,” Lily said.

“With me?” James asked, confused.

“Well, I also wanted to get away from it all.”

“But why me?”

“Well, you were talking earlier about getting to know each other. But, if, if you don't want to . . .”

“No-no, I do,” James said. “Trust me I do,” James muttered under his breath.

“Okay, then.”

James took off his clothes, down to his boxers, and jumped in.

Wow! Lily thought, He looks good shirtless. No! No! No! I didn't mean that!

“Well, are you coming?” James called.

Lily nodded. “Don't look.”

“Aw, Lils . . .” James pleaded.

“No. Now close your eyes or turn around or something,” Lily said.

“But why?” James said.

“James . . .” Lily warned.

“Okay, fine,” James put his hands over his eyes.

Lily turned around and took off her clothes, down to her underwear as well. As soon as Lily turned around to change, James uncovered his eyes.

“Hey Lily! Maybe you should try out for the Quidditch team. We need a new seeker,” James said. Lily jumped in the water.

“James! I told you not to look!” Lily said, splashing him.

“But it's soo hard not to, Lil,” he said. Lily dunked him.

She waited to see his head come back up.

“James?” she called. “James? Oh my go! James come up! This isn't funny!”

“Lily,” James said from behind her. She turned around.

“James! Don't scare me like that,” she said. “I thought you were really hurt.”

“Aw, I didn't know you cared so much,” James said.

“Well, I wasn't about to let you drown,” Lily said, crossing her arms.

“Look, Lily, I'm sorry,” he said. “I never meant to scare you.”

“Well don't do it again,” she said.

“I won't,” he promised.

They swam for a half an hour before deciding to get out.

“Hey, Lily?” James asked right before they got out.

“Yeah?” Lily said.

“Can I look this time?” James asked.

“If I say no will it stop you?” Lily asked.

“No,” James replied, smiling.

“Then . . . I guess,” Lily said, getting out. James got out after her and wolf-whistled. “Potter!”

“What? Just admiring -” Lily pushed him to the ground, straddling his chest, and pinning down his hands above his head.

“Potter, don't start,” Lily warned.

“But, Lily, you said I could look,” James said.

“I never said you could make comments,” Lily said. “I'm not like the sluts you date.”

“I know, I never said you were. I've always known you were special,” James said. “I'm sorry, Lils. Forgive me?”

“Fine,” Lily got off him and got dressed. James didn't move. “Potter, you get up now. I'm not on you anymore.”

“Yeah, I know,” James stayed there a few seconds longer before getting up and getting dressed.

They went back up to the castle to find their friends.

“Lily!” Haley called. “Meg! Found `em!” Haley ran up to Lily and James, followed closely by Megan, Remus, and Sirius.

“Where'd you guys go?” Sirius asked.

“We went for a swim,” Lily said.

“Where's Pete?” James asked.

“Library, I think,” Sirius said. The girls walked to the Head's common room, while the boys went in search of Peter.

“I can't believe we're having a dance!” Haley said, excitedly, while reading the bulletin board. She walked over and sat in a chair as the girls talked.

“Yeah,” Lily said.

“What's up, Lil?” Megan asked. Megan was sitting on the opposite side of the couch that Lily was on.

“I just don't know if I really want to go,” Lily said.

“Oh you are so going,” Haley said.

“I am?” Lily said.

“Yeah, like we'd let you miss it,” Megan said.

“And don't you have to, being Head Girl and all?” Haley asked.

“I guess,” Lily never thought of that.

“And James wouldn't let you miss it either,” Haley said, daring to look at Lily.

“Like I care what he wants,” Lily said.

“Well, you should,” Megan said, “Considering he wants you.”

“Shut up,” Lily said.

As if on cue, James and his friends came in, laughing loudly. Remus and Peter went over to a table, no doubt so Peter could have help on his homework.

“Speak of the devil,” Lily said.

“Hello, my dear Lily,” James said, sitting next to her.

“Hey, Haley,” Sirius said. Haley looked up at him and smiled.

“Do us all a favor and jump off a building, Potter,” Lily said turning toward James.

“What would that solve?” James asked her.

“For you or me?” Lily said.

“So did you ladies hear about the dance?” James asked, looking at Lily's friends.

“Yeah, I can't wait!” Haley said.

“I heard they might be getting a band,” Sirius said. James had obviously told his friends since they weren't putting up fliers for a couple days.

“Just going all out this year,” Megan said, looking at Lily and James.

“Do you know who?” Haley asked Sirius.

“No, but they're letting students perform,” Sirius said.

“Cool,” Haley said.

“Let me guess, you guys are going to try out,” Megan said.

“That's a good ides, don't you think so Padfoot?” James said.

“Brilliant,” Sirius said. The girls rolled their eyes at them.

“So who's judging?” Haley asked.

“Heads, a teacher, and a prefect,” Sirius said.

“Lily, James, pick someone good,” Megan said.

“I have a good feeling they will be,” James said.

“What makes you say that?” Lily asked, looking at him.

“Just a feeling,” James said.

“What kind of feeling?” Haley asked.

“Sorta like the kind I feel for Lily,” James said, winking at Lily.

Lily's mouth dropped slightly and she blushed a little.

“Awwww,” Haley and Megan said together.

“That's so sweet,” Megan said.

“How cute!” Haley said.

“Well, we're off to bed,” Sirius said, looking at James. Sirius, Peter, and Remus left.

James kissed Lily on the cheek and said, “'Night Lily,” and headed upstairs.

“Ooooooh!” Haley said, as soon as she was sure no one could hear them. “Lily and James sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g -”

“Be quiet,” Lily said. “I'm going to bed.” Haley and Megan left as she went up to her dorm. She got dressed and went to sleep think that maybe James finally has changed.

CHAPTER FOUR: GOOD HEAD BOY?

Lily and James put the fliers up about auditioning for the band for the dance the next day. Auditions were to be held at the end of the week. Students had 5 days to pull together their audition songs.

By Friday morning there were over 20 bands signed up. James was looking over the list while heading towards the Heads Common.

“Can't I just mark off all of the Slytherin groups?” James asked stopping to write something on the paper.

“No. I can't believe we have to listen to all these bands,” Lily said, stopping also.

“Actually . . . it'll just be you, not me, listening to the bands,” James said, handing her the paper, which she took. “I'm auditioning.” James walked off, heading in the same direction they were walking before.

“No . . . way!” she said. She looked down at the list. James had written in “The Marauders” under the last band name. “Can he do this?”

James may not be Lily's favourite person, but she was not looking forward to listening to 20 bands; half of which suck.

The next day, Lily was in the great Hall at 10 am to help with the auditions. She took her seat next to Professor McGonnagal (A/N: I don't know if I spelled that right) and Jared, a Ravenclaw prefect. As the bands played Lily was thinking that maybe she should have let James cross off some of the bands.

Lily was surprised when The Marauders played. They were actually quite good. Sirius was on bass, Peter on drums, Remus on keyboard, and James on guitar and singing lead.

3 hours later, all the bands had finished. The judges tallied up the scores for each band and picked the two with the highest scores. The two bands were called in to decide who would go first. The Marauders were to go first, followed buy The Witches. (A/N: don't kill me, I couldn't think of any other names)

“Ya know, they actually weren't half bad,” Lily said, telling Haley and Megan about The Marauder's audition. They were once again in the Common Room, Lily and Haley on ends of a couch, Megan in a chair.

“Oh! I can't wait for the dance!” Haley said. “I already have an outfit.”

“Who do you want to take you?” Megan asked.

“Remus,” Haley said, blushing slightly

“I still don't know what I'm wearing,” Megan said.

“Well, you've got a week. And a Hogsmeade trip,” Lily pointed out.

“Yeah, I guess. What about you Lily? Any outfits or dates?” Megan asked.

“No,” Lily said. “Not right now.”

“Hasn't James asked?” Haley said.

“No, he hasn't,” Lily said.

“Weird, I thought he'd've asked by now,” Haley said.

“Maybe he will, there's still time,” Megan said.

“What if he jumps up on the table in the Great Hall and asks her?” Haley said. Lily rolled her eyes. Though, she wouldn't put it past James to do that.

“Who's jumping on tables in the Great Hall?” came James' voice.

“Ah, no one,” Lily said.

“Hello, Lily dear,” James said, moving her book to sit next to her on the couch.

“Where're your little friends?” Megan asked.

“Aw, didn't know you cared so much,” Sirius said coming in with Remus and walking towards them.

“What and ego! He just assumes that the `little friends' we were talking about included him!” Megan said.

“Who're you calling `little' Sawyer?” Sirius said, walking closer to her. Megan was slightly taller than the average 17 year old, but not as tall as Sirius.

James stood up in front of Sirius.

“Black, chill, I was kidding,” Megan said.

Sirius stepped back.

“Can't you guys ever get a long and act your age?” James said. Lily giggled.

“No,” Sirius said.

“What's so funny?” James asked Lily.

“That's what I'm supposed to say,” Lily said.

“Oh, well, be my guest,” James said, smiling. He knew that's what she usually said.

“That's okay, you seem to have handled in just fine,” Lily said, smiling at him.

“So Lily, thought anymore about trying out for the Quidditch team?” Sirius asked.

“You were serious?” Lily said.

“Of course he's Sirius!” James said. “Besides, I've seen you naked-”

“What?!” Haley said.

“Way to go Prongs!” Sirius said.

Lily pushed him to the ground and sat on his chest again, pinning his arms down so he couldn't move.

“-you have a great body,” James finished.

“Potter!” Lily said.

James furrowed his brows. “Ya know Lily; you seem to like this position. Why don't we take this up stairs?” James said. Lily slapped him, the quickly got off.

Megan and Sirius started an argument about Quidditch, which by the sound of it, they had started earlier.

“They're not!” Megan said.

“Are, too!” Sirius said.

“Guys!” James said, stepping in between them. “Stop! We don't need any blood shed in here!”

Lily was amazed that James was breaking up the fight instead of yelling, “Fight! Fight! Fight!” She was surprised he was taking responsibility.

Megan and Sirius glared at each other before stepping back. Megan and Haley left to go to Gryffindor Tower.

“Think maybe you were wrong on the train when you said I'd make a bad Head Boy?” James asked.

“Tryin' to prove me wrong, Potter?” Lily said.

“Yep! I'm gonna prove I can be a good Head Boy,” James said.

“Well, it's working,” Lily ruffled his hair as she said it. Then got up and walked to the stairs. She didn't go all the way up the stairs; she stood where she knew she'd be out of sight.

“I am never washing my hair again,” she heard James say. Lily came back down.

“Oh yes you are! Or I will never touch your hair again,” Lily said and reached over James to pick up her book. “Forgot my book. 'Night guys.” This time she went all the way up the stairs and into her dormitory.

“Wow, if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it,” Sirius said.

“We're gonna head in,” Remus said. He got up from where he was sitting and grabbed Sirius by the arm and dragged him out.

“But - she flirted with him Moony! I don't believe it!” Sirius said. “She must be under a spell or something to have fallen for James!” (A/N: what a great friends right?)

“Shut up Padfoot,” James said as they left the Common Room, Sirius rambling on about how Lily must be an alien.

CHAPTER FIVE: HALLWAY RONDEVOUZ

“So do we have to put up new posters for the dance?” James asked Lily the next day.

“Well, I thought we could take down the ones for auditions and put up the ones that say the bands,” Lily said. “But only if it's okay with you. You are in charge.”

“Yeah, that's fine. We can go when you have the fliers and when you're not to busy,” James said.

“Yeah, let's go find the prefects,” Lily said.

“So you have the fliers now?” James asked.

“Yeah . . . I was a little bored last night,” Lily said.

“Okay, grab them and let's go,” James said.

Lily grabbed the fliers and left the Head's Common Room with James. They walked through the castle looking for prefects to give the fliers to.

“So Lily,” James started as they left the library.

“Yeah?” Lily asked.

“I was wondering if you'd thought anymore about going to Hogsmeade with me this weekend?” James asked. James smiled at her.

“Um . . . actually, I -“ Lily was cut off.

“Lily?” a male voice called from behind them.

Lily turned around. “Hey Dylan,” Lily greeted the prefect.

“I was wondering if you'd like to go to Hogsmeade with me?” Dylan asked.

James' face fell. Guess I got my answer, James thought. He glared at Dylan. I can't believe he'd ask her out in front of me!

“Actually, I'm going with James,” Lily said. James' smile came back with a vengeance; twice the size it was before.

“Potter?!” Dylan looked at her like she was crazy.

“James, yes,” Lily said.

“Why? I mean you hate him,” Dylan said. James' smile started to fall again.

“I never said I hate him!” Lily said.

She doesn't hate me? James thought.

“You didn't have to. The way you act towards him, the things you say to him and about him,” Dylan said.

Where does he get off saying this stuff about James? Lily thought.

“Hey now - “ James said, cutting in. His smile was totally gone now.

“James happens to be a really great guy! And he's changed a lot this year!” Lily said, ignoring James and temper rising.

She thinks I'm a great guy? James thought.

James seeing how mad she was getting said, “Lily, come one.” He led her away from Dylan.

“James, I was trying to say before I was interrupted, that I would go to Hogsmeade with you,” Lily said.

“Really? I mean, great! I'll meet you in the Gryffindor Common Room at 10 then?” James asked, smiling again.

“Sure,” Lily smiled at how excited he was.

They found the rest of the prefect and finished putting up fliers, James grinning the whole way.

“So she said yes?” Remus asked, seeing James' grin when he walked in the Gryffindor Common Room. Sirius looked up at James.

“Yeah, she did,” James said. Sirius smiled.

“Nice job, Prongs,” Sirius said.

“So what'd you do?” Remus asked.

“Well . . . I asked her if she had thought about my offer for a date to Hogsmeade and she was about to answer when Meadowbrookes came up and asked her out for Hogsmeade,” James said.

“Right in front of you?” Sirius asked.

“Yep. She said she couldn't because she was going with me. Then Meadowbrookes decided to sort of have a go at me,” James said.

“What did Lily do?” Remus asked.

“Lily defended me. Started saying I'd changed and I was a really great guy. Then she told me she'd go to Hogsmeade with me,” James said.

“Never thought I'd see the day when Lily Evan actually says yes to you,” Sirius said.

James glared at him. “Shut up Padfoot.”

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

“You said yes to him?” Megan asked. “Finally?”

“Megan!” Lily said, taken aback. “Yes, I said yes to him.”

“I still can't believe you let him see you naked!” Haley said.

“a. I couldn't stop him from looking, and b. I wasn't naked, I had clothes on,” Lily said.

“What clothes?” Megan asked.

“Underwear and bra,” Lily said under her breath.

“What? We couldn't quite hear that,” Haley said, cupping her ear.

“Underwear! We only had on underwear and me a bra!” Lily said.

“That's close enough to being naked,” Haley said.

“And you let him see you?” Megan asked.

“I didn't let him look! He would've looked even if I had told him not to!” Lily said.

“Well did you look at him?” Haley asked, smiling.

“Boxers or briefs?” Megan asked, smiling also.

“A little, and boxers,” Lily said, a smile playing on her lips.

“Lily! I don't believe it!” Megan said.

“You looking at James Potter?!” Haley said.

“Don't tell him! Then he'll bug me even more,” Lily pleaded.

“Don't worry Lils, your secret is safe with us,” Megan said.

“Can we tell his friends?” Haley asked.

“No!” Lily said.

“Okay, Lily, we won't tell James or his friends,” Megan started. “We'll put up fliers tell everyone else! Come on Haley!” Megan grabbed Haley by the arm and ran out of the Head's Common Room.

“No! Megan! Haley! Don't!” Lily ran after her friends.

Her friends ran down the hallway, laughing. Lily heard a different laugher that she recognized.

“James!” Lily called, “Stop them!”

James motioned to his friends to grab Lily's friends. Remus grabbed Haley, Sirius grabbed Megan, and James grabbed Lily. All held their girl around their waists.

“Not me James!” Lily said. All three girls struggled to get free from their captors.

“So where are you ladies running off to?” Remus asked.

Haley giggled and looked at Lily smiling. “No where.”

“Sure . . .” Sirius said, not totally convinced.

“Sod off, Black,” Megan said. Sirius tightened his grip on her.

“Sorry, ma'am, under orders,” Sirius said.

“Potter, you can serious let me go,” Lily said.

“Aw, dear Lily Flower,” James also tightened his grip around her stomach. “You just fit so perfectly.”

“How many times have you used that line?” Lily muttered. But James heard her.

“Only once, on you Lily Tiger,” he said.

“Aww, that's sweet. Isn't that sweet Remus?” Haley asked, turning her head around to look at Remus. She put her hands over his to help steady herself.

“Y-yeah,” Remus said.

“What about you Sawyer? You think it's sweet?” Sirius asked, looking at Megan.

“Ugh! Black . . .” Megan said.

“Come on, I just wanna know if you thought it was sweet Megan,” Sirius said. Megan was shocked, he had called her by her first name.

“Um, yeah, it's sweet, Sirius,” Megan said. His name felt a little weird in her mouth.

“Say, you seem to fit perfectly too!” Sirius said. “Would you give me the honor of being you escort to Hogsmeade?”

“Okay . . . it's a date,” Megan said.

“Haley, what do you say we make it a triple date? That way we can keep an eye on them,” Remus said. Haley's hands were still on his.

Haley giggled. “Okay.”

“Great!” Remus said.

“We'll pick you ladies up at 10 in the Gryffindor Common Room,” Sirius said.

“Okay,” Megan said. The guys let go of the girls, except James.

“See ya then,” Haley said.

“Potter? You can let me go now,” Lily said.

“Naw, that's okay,” James said.

“Let me go!” Lily said.

“No,” James said.

“Why not?”

“I don't feel like it.”

“What do I have to do? I'm already going to Hogsmeade with you.”

“Nothing, I just wanna stay like this.”

“What if I don't want to?”

“Then I guess you're stuck.”

“Oh come on Potter, please?”

“Call me James.”

“Come on James, please?” Lily pleaded.

“Aw, you're so cute when you pout.”

“Can you just let me go?”

“Kiss me . . . on the lips.”

“Fine!” Lily turned her whole body around in his arms. She kissed him lightly and quickly on the lips.

“Well I'm a man of my word,” James said and let her go.

“Since when?” Sirius asked.

“You a man? That's funny!” Lily said.

“See you girls tomorrow,” Sirius said, and the three guys walked away.

CHAPTER SIX: DATES

The next day Lily walked over to the Gryffindor girl's dorm with 3 outfits for Hogsmeade. Haley and Megan were rummaging through their own clothes, trying to figure out what to wear. They tried on dozens of outfits, switching clothes along the way. An hour later, they had their outfits, hair and make up done.

“Ready?” Megan asked the other two. They all did one last mirror check.

“Yeah,” they said and left for the Common Room.

JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ

“Come on guys, your hair is fine!” Remus said.

“Yeah Prongs,” Sirius said, trying to sound appalled.

“I was talking to you, too, Paddy,” Remus said.

“Don't call me `Paddy!'” Sirius said.

“Hey! I have reason to! I've waited for years for Lily to go out with me, Paddy. I'm aloud to be perfect,” James said.

“Don't call me -” Sirius started.

“But did you know that it's 9:59?” Remus asked.

“What?!” Sirius yelled.

“Yep,” Remus said, calmly. Sirius and James quickly finished their hair and rushed downstairs.

They beat the girls downstairs by a few minutes. Sirius and Remus sat down, but James kept standing. Remus was nervous, yes, but James was even more nervous. Sirius was relatively calm. He was nervous, but knew it was better to keep cool, that way Megan wouldn't know how much he liked her.

Remus was very nervous; he'd liked Haley for a few years, but hadn't done anything because of him being a werewolf. He didn't want to get too close to any girl in fear she would think he was a “freak”. Not that Haley was “any girl”; she was very special to him. He never knew any quite like Haley.

James was extremely nervous. He couldn't believe he was going to Hogsmeade with Lily. She had finally said yes to him! He was going to make sure Lily had the best time ever! She'll never forget this date; he'll make sure of that, too.

Wait.

Is it w date? He'd have to make sure he asks her later.

The boys weren't the only ones who were nervous though. Megan was slightly nervous about her date with Sirius, though she didn't really show it. Sure she liked him, but he was still The Sirius Black. The guys who can get any girl he wants, well except for Lily, and knows he can.

Haley was nervous about finally going out with Remus. She's known how he felt about her for a little while, but waited until he was comfortable. She couldn't believe it when he'd asked her out, he never asked anyone out in the 7 years she'd known him. It made her feel special. She really likes him.

Lily wasn't much different from her two friends. She too was nervous. He was The James Potter the guy who could, like Sirius, have any girl in Hogwarts, yet he always came after her. She never understood why. But she noticed a change in James, a good change, and she likes it.

zZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZz

The girls came down the stairs, smiling, ignoring all the other noise in the Common Room.

“Wow, you look beautiful,” Remus said. “Not that you don't look beautiful any other time. Because you are. But not you're even more -” Remus said quickly, blushing.

“Thanks, Remus, you look nice too,” Haley said.

“Somebody call the bobbies, cuz it's got to be illegal to look that good!” Sirius told Megan, who rolled her eyes but smiled.

“Sirius . . .” she said.

“Wow . . .” James said, “You look . . . wow.”

“Thanks, you look pretty nice your self,” Lily said, smiling at him. James smiled.

“Ready?” James asked everyone.

The six of them took off for Hogsmeade. They made a deal; the boys got to go to the Quidditch store if the girls got to go to a dress store.

So first they went to Quality Quidditch Supplies and spent a good amount of time there. Then they went to the dress shop and spent time in there. (Remus asked Haley to the dance.) Then they took a break from shopping and went to The Three Broomsticks, where Sirius asked Megan if “she could give him the honor of being her escort for the evening of the dance”. Or course, she said yes, blushing. (Oh come on wouldn't you?) After their drinks they all went their separate ways, promising to meet at Hogwarts at 3:30.

Lily and James headed up to the Shrieking Shack.

“Lily?” James asked.

“Yeah?” Lily said.

“I was wondering . . . is this a date?” James asked.

That's so cute! He's nervous! Lily thought.

“Well, I thought so . . . but you're the asker so did you mean for it to be a date?” Lily said. She already knew the answer.

“I guess . . .” James said.

“Then it's a date,” Lily said.

R R R R R R R R R R R R R

Remus and Haley went walking around, looking at all the shops. They sat down on a bench.

“This is nice,” Haley said.

“Yeah, it is,” Remus said.

Haley sighed. “I can't wait for the dance,” she said. “And to hear you guys play.”

“Yeah, James never really told us why he's making us do this,” Remus said. “But there can only be one reason, Lily.”

“I think it's cute how he always chases after her even when she tell him no for the millionth time,” Haley said.

“Oh, James and Sirius are planning this after-dance party thing,” Remus said, “In the Gryffindor Common Room.”

“Will you be there?” Haley asked.

“Yeah,” Remus said.

“Cool, then I'll totally be there,” Haley said, smiling at him. She leaned in and kissed him lightly.

S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S S

“I can't believe this is our last year at Hogwarts,” Megan said.

“Yeah, I'm gonna miss it here,” Sirius said.

“Well I'm sure you and your friends will make this year one that we will never forget,” Megan said.

“But of course,” Sirius said.

“And what do you have planned for the dance?” Megan asked.

“If I told you then I'd have to kill you,” Sirius said.

“You wouldn't really kill me,” Megan said.

“How do you know?” Sirius asked.

“Because I know you,” Megan said. “And I know you wouldn't hurt me.”

“Really?” Sirius said.

“Yes,” Megan said.

“Are you sure?” Sirius said.

“Are you telling me you'd actually hurt me?” Megan asked him.

“No, I'd never hurt you,” Sirius said, softly. He leaned his head in and kissed her lightly on the lips.

Lily and James spent the rest of the day wandering around Hogsmeade, having fun. At the end of the day, they went back up to the castle to Gryffindor Tower.

“Lily? Since this was a date, do I get a kiss?” James asked.

“I don't kiss on first dates,” Lily said, smiling at him.

James kissed her on the cheek. “You looked really beautiful in that dress,” he whispered in her ear. “Save me a dance?”

“Okay,” Lily said and climbed the stairs to the girl's dorm.

The girls spent the rest of the night swapping stories about their dates and giggling. The boys did the same thing, only without the giggling. They talked until dinner, went down and ate dinner, then went back and talked more. At 9 o'clock Lily and James said their good-nights and went to patrol.

Lily figured after having a great day in Hogsmeade with James, of all people, she would be able to get to sleep that night. But she had troubles falling asleep and staying asleep. She kept having dreams about James. Someone had taken James from his bed to someplace dark and scary. They started beating him. Finally someone came through a doorway and raised his wand -

Lily woke up scared.

Was James alright?

She got out of bed to check on him. She walked over to his room and opened the door.

“James?” she called.

No answer.

She walked around his bed and climbed on, straddling him, again.

“James?” she called again, this time getting a little louder. “James?”

He stayed sleeping.

She shook him a little.

Nothing.

She called his name again.

Nothing.

She sighed. She went to get off of his bed, but his arm grabbed her around the waist.

“Lily, come back to bed,” he mumbled. He gently pulled her down beside him.

“James? James wake up!” Lily said. She shook him a little more.

He stirred and opened his eyes slowly. “Lily?” He reached for his glasses. He sat up. “Lily, what are you doing here? Lying, beside me . . .” he said.

“You pulled me down,” Lily said, “After telling me to come back to bed.” She sat up.

“Oh.” James said.

“Do you dream about me often, Potter?” Lily asked.

“Of course,” James said.

“Do you dream we're married often?” Lily asked, smiling.

“Sometimes,” James said.

“I guess we were dreaming about each other tonight then,” Lily said. Lily stopped smiling.

“What? What do you mean?” James asked.

“I-I had a dream that you were kidnapped and someone beat you up really bad,” Lily said. “A-and then someone raised their wand a-and I think they were going to kill you. But I should go.”

“No,” he grabbed her arm. “I can see the fear in your eyes; I'm not letting you go when you're this scared.”

“I came to make sure it was just a dream and that you were okay,” Lily said.

“I'm fine,” James said.

“I know,” Lily said.

“Are you?” James asked.

“I don't know,” Lily said. “It's just when I have a dream like that about my friends . . . I get really scared.”

“Friend?” James asked.

“Y-yeah. I thought we were friends. Why else would I have agreed to go to Hogsmeade with you?” Lily said.

“I don't know, maybe you finally fell for the Potter Charm?” James said.

“No, you - I don't know you seem to have changed this year,” Lily said. “I thought maybe I'd give you a chance to see if you really had changed.”

“You better get back to bed,” James said, after a short pause.

“James?” Lily asked.

“Yeah, Lily?” James said.

“Do you think I could stay here tonight?” Lily asked.

“Huh?” James said.

“I'm scared, James, please?” Lily asked.

“Okay,” James said. He pulled the covers down so she could get in.

“Thank you James,” Lily pulled covers back up after they'd both lain down.

“You're welcome, Lily flower,” he said. He gave her a hug and kissed her head.

Lily fell asleep in James' arms.

CHAPTER SEVEN: Discovery

The next morning, James rolled over in bed and put his arm around Lily, smelling her hair. It smelled like strawberries. He never got to be this close to Lily when he was awake.

Lily could smell him as well. He had that clean boy smell mixed with whatever soap he used. He smelled good; just like his bed. James snuggled up to Lily.

James stirred. He opened his eyes and looked at Lily right next to him. He smiled. She looked so peaceful. He brushed a hair out of her face.

Lily's eyes fluttered open. She looked at James.

“Hi,” he said, getting his glasses.

“Hi,” she said back. She propped up on her elbows.

“How'd you sleep?” James asked. He sat up.

Lily opened her mouth to answer when someone coughed. Lily and James looked over at the door.

“Hi, Remus,” Lily said nervously. She pulled the sheet up to cover herself, even though she was clothed, and sat up fully.

“Lily wha-what are you doing in James' bed?” Remus asked.

“She slept with me,” James said. Remus' eyes got big.

“No! Not like that Remus! Nothing happened!” Lily said.

“Remus?” Haley called.

“Haley! No!” Lily whispered. Haley came through the door and looked at James and Lily for a second then at Remus.

“Hey James. Hey Lily. Remus you ready - Lily?!” Haley said.

“Hey Haley,” Lily said nervously

“Why are you in James bed?” Haley asked.

“She slept with him last night,” Remus said.

“What?!” Haley said.

“No! Haley -“ Lily started.

“Lily, come one, you only had one date with the guy!” Haley said.

“Haley!” Lily raised her voice. She got out of James' bed and walked over to Haley. “I did not have sex with James Potter! Okay?! I had a nightmare about James getting killed and it seemed really real. I came over to make sure he was okay, and James said I could spend the night.”

“So nothing happened?” Haley asked.

“No, nothing happened. Except,” Lily looked back at James, then back at Haley, “For James dreaming about me.” The girls giggled. James turned slightly red.

“Come one, let's go find Megan and I'll tell you what I heard last night,” Lily said and her and Haley left for Lily to get dressed.

“So is that what really happened or is there more?” Remus asked.

“She just came in here saying she had a dream about me getting hurt and came to make sure I was alright. Then she asked if she could spend the night,” James said.

“And what about those dream, huh?” Remus said.

“Shut up,” James said, getting up and putting on pants and a shirt.

“Can't wait to tell Sirius,” Remus said.

“Just shut up, Moony,” James said.

“He'll love it,” Remus said.

“You spent the night with him?” Megan asked.

“It's not like it was planned,” Lily said. “And it was only, like, half the night.”

“I think she like him,” Haley said.

“That would explain a lot,” Megan said.

“Yeah,” Haley said.

“I don't like him like that,” Lily said.

“Yeah, you like him more,” Haley said.

“You like him, you like him, you like him,” Megan said in a sing song voice.

“I do not!” Lily protested.

“You do,” Haley said.

“Maybe a little,” Lily said.

“Ooooh!” Megan and Haley said together.

“Can't wait to tell James!” Megan said and turned to go find James.

“Megan!” Lily pleaded. “Let's not do this again!”

“I tell him or you do,” Megan said, turning to face Lily.

“Megan . . .” Lily said.

“Fine, I tell him,” Megan said and ran off to find James.

“James!” she called when she spotted him around a couple of corners.

“Yeah Megan?” James said.

“I need to tell you something,” Megan said.

“What?” James asked. “What's wrong?”

“It's about Lily,” Megan said.

“Did something happen to her? Is she hurt?” James asked, worried.

“Nothing happened to her, nothing bad,” Megan said.

“Is she okay?” James asked.

“Yeah! She's great!” Megan said.

“So what's up?” James asked, now confused.

“Lily discovered something today,” Megan said, smiling, “About you.”

“What?” James asked.

“She likes you,” Megan said, “More that a friend.”

“What?” James asked. “No, you're confused. Lily only likes me as a friend. Nothing more.”

“No, she likes you more. She told me so,” Megan said.

“When?” James asked.

“Just now,” Megan said.

“Well, why doesn't she tell me this?” James asked. “Why'd she send you?”

“1. she didn't send me I came on my own, and 2. because it's Lily and you're James, a.k.a the guys she hates. Of course she isn't going to tell you, in public, that she likes you,” Megan said.

“Look Megan, Lily's made it extremely clear in the past that she doesn't like me like that. Hell, I just now earned her friendship,” James said.

“She went out with you on a date,” Megan said. “She slept with you last night. Don't you think that means something?”

“Why the hell do you care so much?!” James said.

“Because deep down, you know you to belong together,” Megan said. “James, we grew up together and I know you. You love her. And it's different from all your other girlfriends.”

“Yes! Alright yes! I love her! And I know that I'll never love another girl like her. But there is nothing I can do to make her feel the same way,” James said, desperately.

“But she does,” Megan said. James shook his head. “So that's it? You're just giving up? After she finally starts to like you? You're pathetic.”

“Look, Megan, you don't know what it's like to love someone who doesn't love you back. Okay? It's hard to see Lily smile and know that she will never be smiling because of me. And knowing that no matter what I do, she will never feel the same. So yes Megan, after so many years of trying to convince Lily that I'm a good guy, I'm giving up on her,” James said.

“But why now? I mean come one James, she likes you, you can't give up now,” Megan said.

“I'll make you a deal; I won't give up until after the dance. If Lily doesn't like what I do for her then, I give up, forever,” James said.

Megan sighed. “Fine. So what are you doing?”

“It's a surprise for Lily,” James said.

“Come on! I won't tell her,” Megan pleaded.

“Nope,” James said, simply.

“Meany,” Megan said as they headed back to Gryffindor Tower. “So how long has Remus had a crush on Haley?”

“Since like third year. But he was to shy to do anything about it,” James said. “What about Haley?”

“Oh! Since 4^th year. She said he came back really hot,” Megan said. “She just didn't want to make him uncomfortable, since he'd never asked a girl out that she knew of.”

“Makes sense,” James said. “So what about you? How long've you liked Sirius?”

“Oh no! You're not pulling a fast one on me, Potter,” Megan said, glaring at James.

“So you do like him? Sirius will be happy for a week,” James said.

“Yes I do,” Megan said.

“What if I told you he's liked you since first year? And he's always said there was something special about you,” James said.

“Kinda like you with Lily, huh?” Megan asked.

“Yeah, she's always been special to me. Even when she was calling me names,” James said.

“You sure she wasn't special because she was calling you names? I mean she was kinda the first person to ever call you names. Well other than `hot'. Oh, and the first girl to turn you down for a date,” Megan said.

“Ha-ha very funny. But no. Lily's special because . . . she's Lily,” James said.

“Nice,” Megan said.

“Shut up,” James said. “Lily's the most beautiful girl I've ever met, both inside and out.”

“Well I'm glad you found your reason to wake up in the morning,” Megan said.

“Yeah, I guess I have,” James said as they reached the Fat Lady. “Well, I'll see ya later.”

“Bye,” Megan said and climbed in the portrait hole.

“So did you tell him?” Haley asked. Lily had gone to the library.

“Yes,” Megan said and began to tell Haley what happened.

Lily spent the rest of the day in the library, avoiding James. Unfortunately, that meant skipping dinner. Sometime after dinner, Lily headed for the kitchen. She walked through the fruit portrait hole.

“James, hi,” Lily said, shocked.

He smiled at her. “Hi, I was wondering when you were gonna come get something to eat.”

“I was in the library reading and helping Erik Bruno with homework, and I guess we lost track of time,” Lily said. It wasn't totally lying, she was reading and helping Erik with his homework, but she knew exactly what time it was in library.

“Yeah, I thought that's where you were,” James said.

Lily jumped up and sat on a counter. “Yeah.”

“So how far'd ya get?” James asked, taking a couple steps closer to Lily.

“Excuse me?” Lily was nervous; she knew Megan told James that she had a crush on him.

“The homework, how far did you get on the homework?” James asked.

“Oh,” Lily said, slightly embarrassed. “Um, we finished.”

“Oh, that's good,” James said.

“Yeah,” Lily said.

“Maybe you could help me sometime?” James asked her.

“Sure,” Lily said.

“Lily, Megan told me,” James said, stepping closer to Lily.

CHAPTER NINE: Kiss and Tell

“Told you what?” Lily asked.

“That you like me,” James said.

“Oh, of course I like you James. You're my friends,” Lily said.

“No, Lily . . . She told me that you like me . . . more than a friend,” James said.

“I don't know what you're talking about,” Lily said.

“I think you do,” James said.

“I have no idea what you're talking about,” Lily said.

“Lily, why are you so afraid to let yourself like me?” James asked.

“Because you're James Potter, the guy who has a different girl everyday and the guy I'm suppose to hate,” Lily said

“Do you hate me?” James asked.

“Half the time,” Lily said.

“Do you hate Megan for telling me?” James asked.

“Of course not, she's one of my best friends. And she gave me a choice, I could tell you or she could,” Lily said.

“Do you hate me right now?” James asked.

“It's hard when you keep talking,” Lily said.

James took a couple more steps towards Lily and pressed his lips to hers softly. He expected her to pull away, slap him and scream. But it never came. He pulled back slowly.

“You said I should stop talking,” James said, smiling.

“Um, I - I have to go,” Lily said. She hopped off the counter and headed towards the door. She took one last look at James and left.

James sighed. He couldn't believe he messed things up with Lily, again. He was just trying to show Lily that it was okay that she liked him. He hadn't meant to scare her off. He needed to go find Remus; he could help James with Lily.

Lily needed to be alone. She headed for her dorm. She hadn't meant for James to kiss her. Had she? Had she wanted him to kiss her? Now she was confused.

And hungry. She didn't have a chance to grab anything to eat. She could go back. But what if James was still there?

He probably wasn't, he probably left to go talk with Sirius about why she'd run off. He probably hated her now for running away after he kissed her.

Her stomach grumbled loudly.

She decided to take the chance and get something to eat. She turned around just as she reached the entrance to the Head's Common. She walked back to the kitchens, confusing some of the elves.

She had a sandwich, an apple, and some cookies without running into James. What was she going to say to him next time she saw him? She didn't know. Maybe she could just wait for him to bring it up.

Yeah, that's what she'll do.

“What did I do wrong, Moony?” James asked his friend after explaining what happened.

“Maybe things were moving to fast for her,” Remus said.

“But, Megan told me that Lily likes me,” James said, confused.

“James, Lily isn't like you, okay? She doesn't snog people in public. Maybe she just doesn't move as fast as you do in relationships. Try taking it slower,” Remus said

“How?” James asked.

“Well for starters, did you make sure she actually likes you or did you just take Megan's word?” Remus asked.

“I just took Megan's word . . .” James said.

“So you didn't find out if Lily really likes you before you kissed her?” Remus said.

“You kissed Lily? What'd she do?” Sirius asked, coming over to the table where James and Remus were.

“Yeah,” James said.

“Did she smack you?” Sirius asked.

“No, she ran away,” James said.

Sirius laughed. “Are you that bad?” James wasn't laughing. “Oh, you're not kidding.”

“No, I'm not. Megan came and told me that Lily like me. And I was talking to Lily in the kitchens and I kissed her and she ran away,” James said.

“Bad luck, Prongs,” Sirius said.

“Shut up, Sirius,” James said.

“Hey, we just saw James talking with Remus, looking sort of glum. Did something happen between you two?” Haley asked coming into the kitchen.

“How'd you know I'd be here?” Lily asked as she finished eating.

“Cuz you didn't come to dinner. Now answer the question, did something happen?” Megan said.

“Well, kinda . . .” Lily said.

“How kinda?” Haley asked.

“He kissed me,” Lily said.

“Oooh! Congrats!” Haley said.

“What'd you do?” Megan asked.

“Ran away,” Lily muttered.

“You ran away?” Megan said.

“Sort of,” Lily said.

“Why?” Haley asked.

“I don't know! I got scared, I guess,” Lily said.

“He seems to think he did something wrong,” Haley said.

“How do you know?” Megan asked.

“I overheard,” Haley said.

“You mean you eavesdropped,” Lily said.

“Call it what you want, the point is - I heard,” Haley said.

“So, he thinks he did something wrong?” Lily asked.

“Yeah,” Haley said.

CHAPTER TEN: DATES &NOTES

The next morning the girls walked into breakfast like normal. Haley sat down next to Remus and Peter, Megan sat on one side of Sirius, but what shocked the boys was that Lily still took her normal seat in between James and Sirius, as if nothing had happened.

“Hi, Lily,” James said, confused slightly.

“Hi, James,” Lily said.

“I guess she forgives ya Prong,” Sirius said, smiling at James.

“What's he talking about?” Lily asked James, smiling a bit. She figured about the kiss, but knew she wasn't suppose to know about James thinking he did something wrong.

“You,” Sirius said. Lily turned and looked at him. “Running away from Prongsie here after he kissed you.”

“Why would I need to forgive him?” Lily asked, playing dumb.

“Because obviously you didn't want him to kiss you,” Sirius said.

“Oh! I'd just thought that I'd left some homework in the library and I wanted to get it before the library closed,” Lily lied.

“Oh,” Sirius said. “Sure.” He didn't buy it.

James also knew this was a lie, but didn't push it.

“And I never said I didn't want him to kiss me,” Lily said.

“Words speak louder than actions,” Sirius said. “Isn't that it Moony?”

“No, Sirius, it's `actions speak louder than words',” Remus said.

Lily turned to face James and scooted closer. James' heart started beating faster. She cupped his face with her hands and kissed him lightly on the lips. He put his hand on the back of her head.

Megan's eyes got big, Haley's mouth dropped, Remus rolled his eyes, but smiled, Peter clapped his hands wildly, and Sirius wolf whistled and said, “WhooHoo! Go Prongs!” This resulted in a few curious looks from people throughout the Great Hall.

Lily and James broke apart slowly. They looked around at the stunned faces of their friends.

“What?” Lily asked.

“Y-you just - you and he just - you -“ Megan said.

“Way to get the girl, Prongs!” Sirius said.

“Padfoot, shut up,” Remus said.

“But look at the little love birds, Moony,” Sirius said.

“Sirius, can't you leave them alone for like five minutes?” Megan asked.

“Why?” Sirius asked.

“Sirius,” Megan warned.

“Fine,” Sirius said.

“See? I never said I didn't want you to kiss me,” Lily said.

“You just kissed me,” James said looking at Lily.

“Yeah . . . I know I did,” Lily said, blushing slightly. “Because -“

“You kissed me,” James said.

“Um, yeah, I just said I did,” Lily said.

“You kissed me,” James said.

“James we've already established that,” Lily said.

“Wow,” James said.

Lily grabbed a bagel. “I've got to go to the library real quick,” she said, standing up. “See ya later.” She ruffled James' hair. She walked out of the Great Hall.

“Hey Lily,” Erik said from outside the Great Hall.

“Oh, hey, Erik,” Lily said.

“Thanks again for helping me with my homework last night,” Erik said.

“Oh, it's no problem,” Lily said.

“It was a big help,” Erik said, “Now I'll know what Slughorn's talking about.”

“Yeah,” Lily said.

“Well, I got to go, I just wanted to say thanks again,” Erik said.

“Bye,” Lily said and walked to the library.

Lily sat down and took out her homework to double check. A shadow appeared over her. She turned around.

“Hi, Lily,” a 6^th year boy named Simon Halloway said.

“Hi Simon,” Lily said.

“Um, I was wondering if you wanted to go to the dance with me?” Simon asked.

“Oh, I-I'm sorry, I'm going with James,” Lily said.

“Oh, that's okay,” Simon said. (A/N: Simon says, lol)

“I'm really sorry,” Lily said.

“Okay, well I'll see you around,” Simon said.

“'Kay, bye,” Lily said. Simon walked away. Lily gathered up her stuff fast and went to go find James to make sure he didn't find another date. She found him in their next class.

James, do you have a date for the dance yet? - Lily wrote to him.

No. Why, are you asking me?

No.

Aww, Lilykins, you don't luv we anymore??

Who said I love you???

Your kiss this morning did. Now will you to love birds quite passing notes?!

The bell rang. Lily gathered her stuff up and put the note in her bag.

“Hey Lily,” James said.

“About the beginning of the note . . .” James said.

“Yeah, well, don't get mad,” Lily said.

“I won't,” James said.

“Well, Simon Halloway asked me to the dance,” Lily started.

“Oh.” James' face fell.

“No! I told him I couldn't go with him,” Lily said, “Because I told him I was going with you.”

“Oh!” James said.

“Oooh! Jamesie and Lily sitting in a tree! K-I-S-S-I-N-G, something, something, something,” Sirius said in a sing song voice.

“Sirius!” Megan said. She came up and dragged him away by his shirt collar.

“Aww, come on Meg, I was just having some fun!” Sirius protested.

“And I told him that because, he's a really nice guy and all, but I don't like him like that and I didn't want to hurt his feelings,” Lily finished softly.

“I would love to escort you to the dance,” James said.

“Well, if you're asking,” Lily said.

“Come on, I'll walk you to class,” James said.

“So? Are you guys going together?” Sirius asked James at lunch.

“Yeah, we are,” James said.

“Way to go Prongsie!” Sirius said.

“I told you not to call me that, Siri,” James said.

“What?!” James said.

“Yeah, didn't Dumbledore tell you? It's traditional,” Remus said.

CHAPTER ELEVEN: Dancing and More

“So, Lily, you know that you and me have to open the dance, right?” James asked Lily the next day at breakfast.

“Yeah, I know,” Lily said. “Do you know how to dance?” Lily said so only James could hear.

“Yes,” James lied. “Well, no . . . but, how hard could it be?”

Lily rolled her eyes. “It's harder than it looks.”

“How hard could it be?” James said again.

“Very, when your partner keeps stepping on your feet,” Lily said.

“Point taken,” James said.

“Thank you,” Lily said and went back to eating.

“So teach me,” James whispered softly in her ear. Lily shivered.

Lily turned her head, their faces were centimeters away. “What?” she said softly.

“Teach me to dance. That way I won't step on your feet,” James said.

Sirius looked over at them. “Oy! Prongs, we're trying to eat here!”

“Um, okay. I guess I could,” Lily said, ignoring Sirius.

James smiled. “Great.” Lily thought he was going to kiss her.

“Meet me in our Common Room after dinner,” Lily said.

“Okay,” James said. “Lily,” James looked down. “You smell really nice.”

Lily blushed. “Um, thanks,” she said.

Sirius got up and stood right behind Lily and James. He pulled their heads apart. “Some of us are trying to eat here.”

“You really know how to ruin a moment, ya know, Padfoot?” James said.

“Sirius, come one,” Megan said, taking his hand and walking out of the Great Hall.

“Remus, I need help with my History of Magic essay will you help me?” James asked Remus at lunch.

“Prongs, we all know you need help and acceptance is the first step,” Sirius said.

“Ha-ha very funny,” James said to Sirius. He turned back to Remus. “So will you help me?”

“Sure,” Remus said, “Meet me in the Common Room at 7:30.”

“Okay,” James said.

zZzZzZzZzZzZz

After dinner a nervous James walked to the Head's Common Room ready to meet Lily. His palms started sweating and he didn't know why. He wiped them on his jeans. Why was he so nervous? He was just meeting Lily for help on dancing. He exhaled and walked through the portrait hole.

“Hi James,” Lily said. She smiled at him.

James swallowed. “Hi.”

“Okay well we'll be dancing the waltz, so . . .” Lily said. James nodded. “The waltz is pretty simple.”

“Okay,” James said.

Lily flicked her wand and slow music started playing.

“It's really easy, you just make a box,” Lily said. James looked confused. “Here, let me show you.” She took his hands in hers showing him how to position himself. “Now, step forward.”

James did as he was told.

“Now you hold it for a 1-2-3 count,” Lily said.

“Okay,” James said, watching their feet.

“Now you move left, and hold for 3,” Lily said. “Now go back -“

“And hold for 3,” James said, looking up at her and smiling.

“Yeah. You're catching on,” Lily said. “Now step right. And that's what I mean by `making a box'.”

“Yeah, now I get it,” James said. “And you're right, it is easy.”

“Did you just call me right?” Lily said, as they continued dancing.

“I believe I did,” James said

“I feel so special,” Lily said.

“You are,” James said.

Lily sighed and dropped her arms. “James.”

What did I do now? James thought. How could I have messed it up this time?

“I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that,” James said.

“No, I just wanted to say that I'm sorry that I ran away in the kitchens,” Lily said.

“I think you made up for it in the kiss at breakfast,” James said, smiling.

“Yeah, well, they were really bugging me,” Lily said.

“Well, whatever your reason, I'm glad you did it,” James said, softly, moving his head closer to hers.

“Yeah . . . me too,” Lily said, matching his tone, and moving her head closer to his also.

Their lips touched. Fireworks went off. The earth moved. They both felt something big. Lily felt her knees get weak and her heart flutter. James had never felt like this from any other kiss from any other girl. Lily was not any other girl.

Lily snaked her arms around his neck. James wrapped his arms around her waist, bringing her closer to him and deepening the kiss. Their mouths played with each others. She ran her fingers through his messy black hair.

They broke apart slowly when the need for oxygen became apparent. They looked at each other, breathing heavily. There was the smallest smile playing on James' mouth.

“That was . . .” James broke off.

Lily swallowed. “Yeah,” she said, softly.

James looked at the clock. 7:37. He let go of Lily. “I'm sorry, I have to meet Remus in the Gryffindor Common Room to get help on some homework,” he said.

“Oh, okay,” Lily said.

Lily didn't know if he was telling the truth. For all she knew, he could be running out on her like she did to him. Did he feel what she felt from that kiss?

James walked to the door and left Lily to ponder in her thoughts.

Lily smiled. She just snogged James Potter. She had to go tell Haley and Megan about this. Fast.

CHAPTER TWELVE: James' Plan

Lily walked to the Gryffindor Common Room, still grinning. She walked through the portrait hole and noticed James in the corner working with Remus.

“Why such the big smile Miss Evans?” Megan asked.

“Me and James kissed,” Lily said.

“Ooh! Really? It's about time,” Megan said.

“Where were you?” Haley asked.

“We were in the Head's Common, dancing -“ Lily said.

“Dancing? Ooh,” Megan said.

“Yes, dancing. I was teaching him how to dance because we have to open the dance this Friday with a slow song,” Lily said. “It's tradition,” Lily explained after seeing their confused faces.

“Oh, sure,” Haley said.

“I'm serious,” Lily said.

“So how was it?” Megan asked.

“How was what?” Lily asked.

“The kiss!” Megan and Haley said a little loud. Remus and James looked over at them.

“Shh!” Lily said, glancing over at James. Remus tapped James on the shoulder and they turned back around.

“So? How was it?” Haley asked.

“It was really nice,” Lily said.

“Just really nice?” Megan asked.

“Well, what do you want me to say?” Lily said.

“That it was perfect? The best kiss ever; that you're in love and you want to kiss him everyday for the rest of your life,” Megan said.

“That it was mind-blowing, the angels sang, the ground moved, there were fireworks everywhere, anything,” Haley offered.

“All of the above,” Lily said.

“Even the love part?” Megan asked.

“I don't know, maybe,” Lily said, smiling and shrugging.

“I always knew you'd give him a chance someday,” Haley said.

“Even when he was being a really big jerk to me, you still thought we'd be together someday?” Lily said.

“Well, I thought you'd give him a chance, like one date or something,” Haley said.

“And you've given him a little bit more,” Megan said.

“Be quiet,” Lily said, playfully pushing Megan in the arm.

“What? You noticed his change,” Megan said.

“Yeah, he's nicer now. I like it,” Lily said.

“And he likes that you like it,” Haley said, smiling.

“And you have to admit, it was kinda sweet how he kept after you after all these years,” Megan said.

“Yeah, it was, sometimes. Sometimes it was a royal pain though,” Lily said.

“How he would follow you everywhere, want to carry your books . . .” Haley drifted off. “It was almost stalking.”

“It was like right on the line,” Lily said.

“So if he asks you to the dance, you'll say yes?” Megan asked.

“No,” Lily said.

“What?” Megan said.

Why not?” Haley asked.

“Because we're going together already,” Lily said. “Like, as friends I guess.”

“He's doing something special for you at the dance,” Megan said.

“What?” Haley said.

“What's he doing?” Lily said.

“I don't know,” Megan said. “I just know he's doing something.”

“Ooh!” Haley said.

“And it's something really special and . . . he's gonna give up on you if you don't like it after the dance,” Megan said.

“He's gonna give up on me?” Lily asked. “Even though we're going to the dance together?”

“Yeah,” Megan said. “So you have to make sure you like it.”

“She probably will. I mean, she doesn't want James to give up on her does she?” Haley said.

“No she does not,” Megan said. “Am I right Lily?”

“Right,” Lily said.

“So we just have to wait and see what he does?” Haley said.

“Yep,” Megan said.

“So, did anything happen with you and Lily?” Remus asked when they got done with homework.

“Yeah,” James said. “We kissed.”

“Was there tongue?” Sirius asked. Remus hit Sirius upside the head. “Ow! What?!”

“Maybe James doesn't want to tell you that,” Remus said.

“What are you talking about? Of course Prongs want to tell us. We're best friends!” Sirius said.

“Sirius, maybe he doesn't want to jeopardize he relationship with Lily so early,” Remus said.

“But I just wanna know if there was any tongue in the kiss,” Sirius said.

“No, okay? There was no tongue, Padfoot,” James said, quietly.

Sirius looked disappointed.

“Sorry, buddy,” James said. “Next time I'll remember to tell her I have to stick my tongue down her throat because you want a good story.” James looked over at Lily, wondering if she would even let him do that.

“I'm sensing sarcasm,” Sirius said. Remus hit him again. “Ow! Moony! Quit hitting me!”

“Then quit being stupid,” Remus said.

“That hurt,” Sirius said.

“So when are you asking her to the dance, Prongs?” Remus asked. James looked back at them.

“Uh,” James exhaled. “I'm . . . not.”

Sirius' jaw dropped. “What?” Remus said.

“I'm not asking her to the dance,” James said.

“Why not?!” Sirius said.

“Because she asked me . . . sort of,” James said.

“She asked you?!” Sirius asked astounded.

“Sort of,” James said, looking over at Lily again.

“Would you have asked her?” Remus asked.

“No, because, we're playing and I wrote all those songs to win her over,” James said. “And this plan was better than any of Sirius' `brilliant' plans.”

“Hey! I resemble that!” Sirius said, not knowing what he was saying.

Remus rolled his eyes; he of course knew what Sirius was saying.

“Am I not right, Moony?” James said.

“You're right,” Remus said.

“But now, we're going together but more as friends. So, I still have to woo her,” James said. (A/N: I love that, “woo her”)

“`Woo her'? What does `woo her' mean?” Sirius asked.

“Sirius, shut up,” Remus said.

“Not until I find out what `woo her' means,” Sirius said.

CHAPTER THIRTEEN: THE BREAKUP

“So how are you doing your hair for the dance?” Haley asked over breakfast the next day before the guys got there.

“I don't know yet,” Megan said, “I'm thinking, stick straight or loose curls. What about you, Hales?”

“I'm thinking up-do,” Haley said. “Lil?”

“I'm doing curls,” Lily said.

“Cute,” Megan said.

The boys sat down at their usual places.

“Hello, ladies,” Sirius greeted them. He gave Megan a kiss on the cheek.

“Morning Hales.” Remus greeted his girlfriend with a kiss on the lips. “Megan, Lily.”

“Good morning, Lily, Megan, Haley,” James said, cheerily.

“My, aren't we cheery today,” Haley said to James.

“Well I have reasons to be happy,” James said.

“Who did you snog?” Megan asked with a big smile on her face.

James glanced at Lily. “Uh . . . someone really special to me.”

Lily smiled to herself. She moved her right hand, which was on the bench, slightly over to James' hand. James looked down at his hand then up at Lily and smiled at her. James' (A/N: hehe, I did it!) hand was warm. Lily's hand was small compared to James'. (HA! Mr. Brauns! I did it AGAIN!!!)

“It was Lily,” Sirius said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

“Duh,” Haley said.

“Lily and James snogged? When did this happen?” Peter asked.

“Last night,” James said. And it was perfect, James thought about adding.

A blush crept up on Lily's cheeks.

“So Lily, Prongs won't tell me anything about the kiss,” Sirius said. Lily took a sip of her drink as the others started eating. “There was tongue, wasn't there?” Peter cringed.

Haley stifled a laugh. Megan dropped her fork, her mouth dropped, she looked at Sirius. Lily coughed. Her eyes widened. “Excuse me?” Lily said a little louder than her normal voice.

“Prongs gave you tongue didn't he?” Sirius said.

Lily looked at James, slight shock on her face. “What did Prongs tell you exactly?” She looked back at Sirius.

“I didn't tell him that, Lils, I swear,” James said.

“He didn't tell me much, just that you kissed,” Sirius said, ignoring James. “I just wanted to know if he was with holding information. I mean, it's not really James' style to not do that.”

James looked around the room, avoiding any eye contact. Finally, he couldn't take it; he looked at his friends and Lily's friends. He finally looked to Remus for help.

“Sirius, maybe Lily doesn't want to hear about James' past relationships,” Remus said.

“Sirius, we didn't do that. All we did was kiss. Nothing more, nothing less,” Lily said.

“Lil, I swear, I didn't tell him that -“ James said.

“James,” Lily cut him off, “I believe you. Sirius never said that you said that stuff.”

James smiled but found himself thinking about French kissing Lily again. He looked away and finished eating his breakfast, one handed.

Haley stifled another laugh. Lily looked up at her.

“I'm sorry, I thought it was funny,” Haley said. “I mean, he actually thought you would let James do that and if you did that you'd tell him! I find that very funny.” Megan laughed.

“It is a bit funny,” Megan said.

“No, it's not! It's embarrassing!” Lily said. “I don't want to tell Sirius what I do with guys. Just like I don't want to know what he does with girls.”

“You're not the only one,” Remus said.

“Well, James wouldn't tell me anything -“ Sirius said.

“Because there wasn't anything to tell!” James said. “I told you all of it!”

“Do you guys tell each other everything you do with girls?” Megan asked, slightly disgusted.

“Uh, I refuse to answer on the grounds it might incriminate me,” Sirius said.

“Sirius has been watching American cop shows,” James explained.

“Ah, now I see,” Lily said.

“So, Peter, did you ever ask that girl out?” Sirius asked Peter.

“She already has a date,” Peter said.

“How do you know?” Sirius asked.

“When I asked her, her friends laughed and she told me that she already had a date,” Peter said. “Then I'm pretty sure when she turned she started laughing with her friends.”

“Tough break Petey,” Sirius said.

“What a great friend you are,” Lily said.

“I am! I am the greatest friend in the world,” Sirius said.

“Yeah, and you don't have a big ego at all,” Lily said, sarcastically.

“I'm sensing sarcasm again,” Sirius said.

“Hon, it's a good thing your good looking,” Megan said.

“Of course I'm good looking! I'm Sirius Black,” Sirius said.

“Thanks, cuz we didn't know that,” Haley said, rolling her eyes.

“And not cocky at all,” Lily said.

“Confident, not cocky,” Sirius said.

“Whatever you say Sirius,” Megan said.

“Then I say you -“ Sirius started.

“Don't even think about finishing that sentence,” Megan said.

“H-Haley, can I talk to you, a-alone?” Remus said, nervously.

Haley looked around at her friends. Nothing good ever came after that. But maybe this time would be different.

“Sure,” Haley said, quietly. They got up and walked out of the Great Hall.

Lily looked at Megan, a worried look on her face. Megan shrugged. Lily looked at James. He had a confused look on his face and shrugged at Lily also.

“What's going on?” Lily asked the boys.

“For once, I'm clueless,” Sirius said.

Everyone was to worried and shocked of what Remus could be saying to comment. Peter, of course, was clueless to what was happening.

“You don't think he's breaking up with her do you?” Lily asked.

“No!” James said. “No!” He sounded more like he was trying to convince himself, more than the other people. Sirius leaned around Lily and tapped James on the shoulder. He whispered something in James' ear. “Um, I'll see you later, Lils.”

“I'll meet up with you at class, Meg,” Sirius said. The boys got up and left.

Lily looked at Megan again. “Should we go see what's up?”

“Oh-ho yeah,” Megan said.

The girl's got up and headed for Gryffindor Tower. They went up to the girl's dormitory and found Haley crying on her bed. Their faces fell and their hearts sank.

“Hales, what happened?” Megan asked, sitting on the end of her bed.

Haley sniffed and shook her head.

“Come on Hales,” Lily said, sitting next to Haley.

“H-he broke up w-with m-me,” Haley said.

“Oh, honey,” Lily said, hugging her friend. “Why?”

“I-I don't k-know,” Haley said. “Why d-doesn't he l-like me? A-am I not g-good enough for h-him?”

“Of course you're good enough for him. But he obviously isn't good enough for you,” Megan said.

“I r-really like him,” Haley said.

“We know, sweetie,” Lily said.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN: Furry Little Problem

“Remus? Why'd you break up with Haley?” James asked, coming into the boy's dormitory.

“How'd you know?” Remus asked.

“You said `can we talk?' Everyone knows that means `I want to break up',” Sirius said.

“We were getting really close …” Remus drifted off.

“So?!” Sirius said. “You're suppose to.”

“Not when - not when I have a furry little problem,” Remus said, lowering his voice some even though there was no one else in the room.

“That's why you broke up with her?” James asked.

“Just tell her,” Sirius said.

“It's not that easy, Sirius,” Remus said.

“Yes it is. Watch,” Sirius said and left the room. James ran after his friend.

Remus followed. “Sirius! Wait!”

Sirius stood at the bottom of the girl's stairs. “Haley!” he called, loudly.

“Sirius, no!” Remus said.

Lily came to the bottom of the stairs. “Uh, Haley doesn't feel very well right now.”

“Tell her to come down here. Remus wants to tell her why he broke up with her,” Sirius said.

“Okay, if you say so,” Lily said and went to get Haley and Megan. She came back down a minute later with Megan and Haley.

Haley sniffed. “What?” She crossed her arms across her chest.

“Remus has a really big secret and it keeps him away from the people he loves and cares about,” Sirius said.

“So what is it?” Haley asked.

“Sirius,” Remus warned.

“No, Remus, if you won't tell me, then Sirius will. And I want to know why you broke up with me,” Haley said.

“Remus is a werewolf,” Sirius said.

Haley's mouth dropped and she took a step back. Lily's eyes widened and she looked at James in disbelief. Megan looked at Remus, her mouth slightly agape.

“Is this some kind of stupid prank? Because it's not funny, Sirius,” Haley said.

“Haley, I'm not joking or lying to you,” Sirius said, seriously. There was no laugher in his voice. Haley knew he wasn't kidding.

“Is that why you broke up with me?” Haley asked Remus quietly.

“I can't be trusted when I change every month,” Remus quickly explained.

“And the full moon's coming up isn't it?” Haley asked, quietly.

Remus nodded. “I-I don't want to break up, but -“

“Then don't,” Haley said. “Let's not break up. I assume you're taken care of during that time of the month. So I can take dating a werewolf. I'm not scared of you.”

Remus' face lit up. “Your not?”

“Nope,” Haley said.

Remus stepped forward, cupped Haley's face, and kissed her gently.

Sirius, thinking it would be oh so romantic to do, pulled Megan to him and kissed her as well.

James looked at Lily. Lily looked at James.

“Why not?” James said and wrapped his arms around Lily's waist and kissed her. He pulled back slowly.

“Oi! Remus! There are still other people in the room!” Sirius yelled.

Remus pulled back from Haley, who was blushing.

“We're gonna be late for class,” Remus said. He and Haley left the portrait hole for class, with Megan and Sirius not to far behind, laughing.

“James?”

“Hmm?”

“You can let me go now,” Lily said.

“Oh, sorry,” James said, releasing her. His cheeks turned slightly pink.

Lily headed for the portrait hole. She turned back to James, who hadn't moved, and said, “You coming or what James?”

“Huh? Oh, yeah, I'm coming,” he said and caught up with her.

“So are you excited about your debut Friday?” Lily asked as they walked to Transfiguration.

“A little,” James said.

“Are you nervous?” Lily asked.

“I wasn't,” James said.

“Sorry,” Lily said, “But are you?”

“Not really,” James lied. He was very nervous. He didn't know if Lily would like his surprise for her or not. He hope, of course, she liked it. He hoped she loved it. He knew most girls would, but Lily of course, was not most girls.

zZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZzZz

There was hype in Hogwarts Thursday; everyone was excited about the dance the next night. The bands were doing final checks on their songs, making sure they nailed everything.

Lily was busy making sure all the decorations were accounted for. She and James were to hang them tomorrow after lunch. Then the bands were to set up and do a sound check.

No one knew what the bands sounded like except the people who were at auditions and the ones who were actually in the bands. There were rumors going around (from the Slytherins) that The Marauders sucked. And rumors (from the Slytherins) that it wasn't really them singing or playing. And there were rumors (from the Gryffindors) that if the people spreading the rumors (the Slytherins) didn't stop, then someone (the Gryffindors) would do something horrible to them. (Something from Sirius' mind no doubt.)

“Megan, you better figure out how you're going to do your hair for the dance soon,” Haley said at lunch on Thursday.

“I've decided on straight,” Megan said. “That way we don't all have the same hair style.”

“Good choice. You'd look good with straight hair,” Lily said.

“That's why I picked it,” Megan said, smiling.

“I think Sirius is rubbing off on you Meg,” Haley said.

“Who am I rubbing off on?” Sirius asked with his mouth full of food.

“Your girlfriend,” Lily said.

Sirius smiled.

“Ewwww!!! Not like that you pervert!” Haley said.

“You have to be very careful what you say around Sirius. You never know how he'll take it,” James said, “Which is usually pervertidly.”

“It's not my fault,” Sirius said. “It's how you people say things.”

“Gutter mind,” Lily muttered.

“Didn't your mother ever tell you to speak up, Lily Flower?” Sirius said.

“No,” Lily said. “Did yours?”

“No. I was taught `never eat glue',” Sirius said. The part of the table who heard laughed loudly. “Why is everyone laughing?! That is an important lesson.”

“Sirius, why were you eating glue?” Lily asked.

“It looked like pudding,” Sirius said, shrugging.

Everyone laughed more.

“Do you eat everything?” Haley asked.

“Of course he does,” Lily muttered.

“Speak up Lily dear, we can't hear you,” Sirius said.

“I said `of course he does',” Lily said.

“I don't eat everything,” Sirius muttered.

“Oh do speak up Sirius, we can't hear you,” Lily teased.

“Oh shut up,” Sirius said.

“Be nice you to,” James said. “Don't make us take away your book or pranking privileges.”

“Why do I have pranking privileges?” Lily asked, teasing James.

“Book privileges?!” Sirius said. “What are book privileges?”

James shook his head. “The other way around. Lily has the books, Sirius has the pranking privileges.”

“Oh,” Sirius said.

“James, don't forget tomorrow we're putting up decorations with the prefects after lunch,” Lily said.

“I won't,” James said.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN: DECORATNG

Friday after lunch, all afternoon classes were cancelled so people could get ready for the dance. Why, you ask would they need over 6 hours to get ready. To find the answer all you have to do, is talk to any girl who wears a lot of make up. She will tell you that it is a long process.

Classes were also cancelled so that the Great Hall could be decorated. After lunch, the prefects, Lily, and James stayed in the Great Hall with all the decorations. Everyone was given their assignments and went to work. James, of course, put him and Lily working together.

“So, James,” Lily said.

“Yeah?” James called up to Lily who was standing on a ladder.

“I have to admit, I thought this idea would turn out really bad,” Lily confessed.

“Really?” James said.

“Yeah,” Lily said. “But I'm glad I'm wrong.”

“Really?” James asked.

“Yeah, it's a really good idea,” Lily said.

“Thank you,” James said.

“Hand me that box of streamer would ya?” Lily asked James.

James let go of the ladder and bent down to pick up the box of streamers for Lily.

“Hey James,” someone called. “Toss me that tape?”

James turned and tossed the tape to the person, bumping up against the ladder on accident.

Lily wobbled. “James!”

James turned around quickly. He tried to steady the ladder but that only made Lily lose her grip. She slipped off the ladder. Luckily, none of the decorations tore as she fell. A little scream escaped her mouth.

James caught her before she hit the ground. He held her sort of like a groom would as he carries his bride over the threshold.

“Oh, thanks James,” Lily said, blushing.

“No problem,” James said, putting her down.

Lily climbed back on the ladder a little shaky this time. “Don't let go this time.”

“I won't, I promise,” James said.

“Swear?” Lily asked.

“Swear,” James said. “I'll hold on like my life depended on it.”

“Good,” Lily said, and finished hanging her part of the decorations. “Okay, I'm coming down.”

“I still have hold, don't worry,” James said.

“Good,” Lily said as she came down the ladder.

“I guess it's my turn,” James said.

“Yep, you know where you're hanging everything right?” Lily asked him.

James started climbing the ladder. “Yeah.”

“Are you positive?” Lily said, teasing.

“Nope, I just forgot,” James said.

“Get up there,” Lily said. “And I, unlike you, will not hit the ladder and make you fall.”

“I would hope not!” James said. “You won't be able to catch me, sweet heart.”

“You think your soo funny,” Lily said.

“I don't think, I know,” James said.

“Yeah, and your not cocky at all,” Lily said, rolling her eyes.

“Say sweet thang what do you say when your done you come up to my room?” a male voice said behind Lily. Someone wrapped their arms around her waist.

“Leave her alone scum bag. She's mine,” James said, smiling slightly.

“Sirius! Let me go!” Lily said.

“Aw, what gave it away?” Sirius asked.

“Your voice,” Lily said.

“I said, leave her alone scum bag,” James said, coming down the ladder.

“James,” Lily said.

“Who are you calling scum bag, loser?” Sirius said.

Lily rolled her eyes and smiled at the boys' stupidity. “Guys, don't fight.”

“All I was trying to do was show this nice girl a good time,” Sirius said.

“She has me for that, right Lily Flower?” James said.

“Of course James,” Lily said, rolling her eyes.

“See?” James said.

“Well you know where to go if you really want to have a good time,” Sirius teased.

“Why would I go to you?” James asked.

“Not you stupid head! Lily!” Sirius said.

“Lily is content with staying right where she is,” James said.

“How do you know?” Lily asked.

James' mouth dropped, but he collected himself quickly. “Because I know you'd never do that to one of your best friends. Ha!”

“Okay, ya got me,” Lily said.

“'Course I do, you're too good for any of the other guys here,” James said, winking at her.

“Aw, that's sweet, Prongs,” Sirius said. “But Lily's too smart to fall for something like that.”

“That is sweet,” Lily said.

“Will you guys get back to work and stop flirting with each other?” Remus said, coming over to them. “What's Sirius doing here?”

“I am hurt Moony!” Sirius said, pretending to be hurt. “Do you not want me here?”

“Drama queen,” Remus said.

“I thought only girls could be queens,” Sirius said, tagging along with Remus on whatever Remus was doing.

“So, I'd say we got a lot of work done today,” Lily said.

“Really?” James asked, looking around at a half decorated room, confused.

“Okay, so not a lot but some,” Lily said.

“Agreed, and they aren't done yet. Soon Cinderella will arrive at the Grand Ball,” James said. “Soon, the place won't even look the same.”

“So I'm Cinderella am I?” Lily asked.

“Oh course,” James said.

“Why Cinderella?” Lily said.

“Because it's the only fairy tale I know, and because I'm Prince Charming,” James said.

“Well Cinderella will meet Prince Charming tomorrow in the Gryffindor Common Room at 6,” Lily said.

“Sounds good,” James said.

“Good,” Lily said.

“It's a date then,” James said.

“You'll get your kiss then,” Lily said.

James looked confused.

“I don't kiss on first dates, remember?” Lily said.

Yes, now he remembered. He grinned. He couldn't wait for the dance.

Neither could the rest of Hogwarts.

“Ooh! I'm soo excited!” squealed Haley as she put on her dress.

“I need help, can someone zip me up?” Megan asked.

“Sure,” Lily said. She walked over and zipped Megan up. “Now do me.” Lily turned around so Megan could zip her up.

“Can someone do the spell to do my hair? I've been practicing all day and it never works,” Haley said.

“It works better if someone else does it,” Lily said. She said the spell and Haley's hair was turned into a gorgeous updo.

“Thanks Lil,” Haley said.

“Here I'll do you and you can do me,” Megan said to Lily.

“Okay,” Lily said. Megan said the spell and Lily's hair turned into loose curls.

“Elegant,” Megan said.

“Sexy,” Haley said, smiling.

“Now, I'll do yours Meg,” Lily said. Megan hair turned straight, straighter than usual.

“Mirror check,” Haley said.

They all crowed around a mirror and double checked them selves. When they looked perfect Haley said, “Ready?” The other girls nodded. They left their room, ready for the dance.

“All ready for our debut? And for James to finally win Lily over?” Sirius said.

“Ready,” Remus said.

“Ready,” James said, slightly red.

“Uh-huh,” Peter said.

“Ready for James to finally be happy? And for no more Let's-do-this-so-I-can-win-Lily-once-and-for-all plans?” Sirius asked. “And for James to finally let his guard down. And for James to finally get a little something. And for -“

“Sirius, we get it,” James cut in.

“But I'm not done,” Sirius wined.

“Well to bad!” James said.

“Moony, let me finish my list,” Sirius said.

“No,” Remus said.

“Please?”

“No.

“Please?'

“No.”

“Pretty please?”

“No!”

“Pretty, pretty please?”

“No!”

“Pretty, pretty please with chocolate on top?”

“No!”

Sirius gave him a puppy dog look. “Pwease?”

“No! So stop asking.”

“You're no fun Moony! You're just an old stuffy werewolf.”

“Sirius, shut up.

“Pretty, pretty please with chocolate and little moon sprinkles on top?”

“What don't you understand about `no'? The `n' or the `o'?”

“Is that a trick question?”

“Sirius! Just top asking! No you can not finish your stupid crappy list!”

“You don't have to insult the list. It's done nothing to you.”

“Are we all ready?” Remus asked.

“Yeah, we're ready,” James said.

“Then let's go,” Remus said.

They walked down the stairs to the Common Room and waited for the girls. Well, the ones who had dates waited for them. Peter couldn't wait for a date as he didn't have one. But he still waited with the others.

Megan was the first to come down, followed by Haley, and finally Lily. The boy's mouths dropped when they saw the girls. Again, except Peter.

“Wow …” was what Sirius said. “You look … wow.”

“Thank you, you look pretty wow your self,” Megan said.

“James?” Lily asked looking at him worried. “James? Are you okay?”

“Huh? Y-yeah, I'm fine,” James said, still looking at her. “You look . . . you look . . . y-you look . . . amazing.”

Lily blushed. “Thanks.”

“We should start heading down now, so you guys aren't late,” Remus said.

“Right,” James said.

They all walked down to the Great Hall. The bands did one last sound check and made sure everything was in place. Lily and James double checked everything was in place then looked around to make sure everyone else was ready.

Lily and James opened the doors and let the students in.

“Attention!” James called. The students kept talking. “Guys!”

“Quiet!” Sirius yelled. Everyone quieted down.

“Thank you,” James said. “As custom, the Head Boy and Girl open the dance with a slow song and then everyone else joins in. So, are the bands ready?” James looked over at 3 / 4 of The Marauders and The Witches. They all nodded. James looked to Lily and nodded. She nodded as well.

The bands started playing. James stepped closer to Lily, taking hold of her hands, started to dance. The other students soon started dancing. They made the song a quick one. Some of the students went off to eat and talk while others stayed dancing.

“I got to go play but I'll be back later,” James said and walked off to the stage.

Lily walked over to find her friends.

When the song was over the students cheered and threw things on stage. But Lily and James were oblivious (See Mrs. Mentzer? I can use that word right!) to anything around them. Megan and Haley walked up on stage to congratulate the boys.

Neither Lily nor James ever broke eye contact. James moved his head in about to kiss her when he stopped. Lily couldn't take it, she pressed her mouth against his. She snaked her arms around his neck as he put his arms around her waist.

They pulled apart slowly when the need for oxygen became overwhelming.

“I liked your songs,” Lily whispered.

“I wrote them for you,” James whispered back.

Lily smiled. “You did?”

James nodded. “See I had this plan to win you over. I would write you really great songs and sing them to you. And you would fall madly in love with me.”

“It worked,” Lily said.

“Really?” James said.
