She wonders the halls now aimlessly. Before it was with a purpose: get to class, go to the library, rush to a meeting, sneaking with them through the darken halls. But now it is only done while being held prisoner by her thoughts. She should be okay now that it is all over and done with. She’s done her job with the same grace as ever, but this time it’s left a bad taste in her mouth.

Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter or anything associated with it. I also do not own the song Blind by Placebo.
Author's Note: Okay, so my first post DH piece of fiction. I really have nothing to say about the book that already hasn't been said, no sense in beating the horse….I think its dead. I have no idea about this story. I love the song and I knew I had to do something with it (I always seem to be driven by music). I tried not to push myself, but I'm not real happy with it. Oh well, I'll put it up anyway. There are no real references to the book of doom, but it is considered post-DH. I tried to make sure all the tenses were fixed also. So, um, enjoy or whatever.
Blind
Don't go and leave me
And please don't drive me blind
Don't go and leave me
And please don't drive me blind
She wonders the halls now aimlessly. Before it was with a purpose: get to class, go to the library, rush to a meeting, sneaking with them through the darken halls. But now it is only done while being held prisoner by her thoughts. She should be okay now that it is all over and done with. She's done her job with the same grace as ever, but this time it's left a bad taste in her mouth.
She's not stupid. No one would ever put that word in the same sentence with Hermione Granger. She knows what war is about and she has been involved in this one for years. They all have lost people. She knew what was coming and what would happen and tried to prepare for it. She should have known better. No matter how much you try to prepare yourself, you will never be ready for the way you feel when it's all over. War isn't some test in a class.
For so long she's had a purpose in this world she was thrown into and she's clung to that like it was her life support. Now that the war is over and Harry is safe, her role is done. The cord has been pulled and she's left struggling for breath. For the first time in her life she has no idea of what to do. It seems like everyone around her is moving on from the casualties and here she is still lingering in the after shocks.
Suddenly after seven years it was over. Seven years of planning, researching, worrying, crying, and fighting for their lives. Strange how quickly it ends. She woke up one day and realized that this chapter of her life was over. She thought there would be this huge sigh of relief—`they made it'. But there was nothing like that; just this feeling of loss and confusion. No relief or happiness. She wanted to feel something else certainly.
For once in her life she cannot make her mind focus on something else. It's as if she is forever stuck in the past and nothing can move her forward. She knows she should return to her parents and set things right, but every morning the energy leaves her when she looks in the mirror.
She has taken to avoiding others almost completely. At meals she eats with Harry usually, but her voice is rarely heard. They all try to draw her into conversation but give up after her one word answers. She knows they're tired of trying to figure out what to do with her.
She's tired too and she just wants to be able to heal from all this and maybe, just maybe, do something for herself. She just doesn't want to move yet from here.
I'd fill your every breath with meaning
And find the place we both could hide
He knows. He can tell what's wrong just by being with her. They've been friends long enough that he's able to read her and right now she's lost. He's able to recognize the look from seeing it on his own face in the mirror every morning. He figures they have same problem right now and he wishes that she would once again feel comfortable enough to talk to him about it. He'd like to know what to do next as soon as she figures it out. He knows they can't linger here in limbo forever and they can't stay within these halls much longer either.
What is the Boy Who Lived suppose to do when the prophecy is fulfilled? Is there a book somewhere that one could read for suggestions? Everyday he looks at the people around him moving on with their lives. Even the Weasleys seemed to be coping with their loss and putting their lives back together (maybe it was all for show, but did anyone really know?). How do they do it he often wonders? He wished he could just get them both away from all of this and them maybe they would recover and begin to resemble their former selves.
Without knowing it, he was sent into this world with a job to do. He hated thinking it because it made him sound like a superhero or something, but he had a world to save and he did that. Without realizing it, all three of them had a part to play and they fulfilled their roles with standing ovations at the end. So what next? He knew what he wanted to do first and that was to get Hermione…..what….back to normal?
I know you're broken
I know you're broken
I know you're broken
He missed her. Even though he saw her at meals and sometimes in the halls, he never felt as though he really saw her anymore. When he did get a chance to look at her, she looked like a ghost of herself. Her brown eyes were dull, her hair that normally was bushy and always managed to show part of her personality seemed lifeless, and of course her clothes seemed baggy. At meals she pushed her food around or picked at it.
He never made a comment about it. If it was him, he wouldn't want anyone to say something, plus plenty of others said enough. He figures she's knows what he's thinking anyway. She always does.
Don't go and leave me
And please don't drive me blind
Don't go and leave me
And please don't drive me blind
He wants to fix her though which is unlike him. He use to being the one getting taken care of by her, so the role reversal is strange. He knows that he can't move on if she doesn't move with him. So maybe his new role is to not to necessarily save her (Merlin, she'd hate that), but to help her and possibly help himself in the process.
I'd freeze us both in time
And find a brand new way of seeing
Your eyes forever glued to mine.
He finds her sitting outside by the lake, staring out at it but obviously not seeing anything in front of her. He chooses to remain standing and stops beside her. She doesn't acknowledge his presence and it reminds him that he can't remember the last time he made eye contact with her.
He feels so angry today, like he could scream at her, shake her. He knows its wrong because she can't help the way she feels and neither can he. But they both need to get out of here because it's killing them. He knows, swears if they just got away from here, from the presspeopleworldthoughts, they could get past it and move on. He needs to see her eyes again, her smile again and that will only happen if they get the hell away from here.
He moves to sit in front of her, blocking her view, momentarily forgetting that she isn't seeing the lake. Her eyes shift, brown latching to green. Her face remains blank but for once she seems to see Harry.
“Hey.” His voice is rough, scratchy from lack of use. He watches her mouth begin to open like it's trying to form the words, foreign to her. Her tongue peaks out wetting her dry lips and she tries again.
“Hi.” It's only a whisper, barely heard, but it's there and he feels his something small being to slip into place.
Taking a chance he reaches for her hand and laces his fingers through hers. Normally he wouldn't think twice about this, it was often done without thought before the……well before. But now he thinks that maybe things might be different. The warmth of her hand is familiar in his and she doesn't pull away.
Taking another chance, he tells her, “I think we need to get out of here.” Hoping she gets that he needs her with him, he squeezes her hand gently before holding his breath. Her eyes search his and at her slight nod he remembers to breathe.
Given enough time, they would return to themselves.
