Story Summary: Instead of being subjected to the abuse, neglect and treated like a house-elf, Vernon and Petunia decide to raise Harry with all the love and affection that he deserves. How would Harry's life have been if this actually happened in the books? To find out the answer to this question than please come and read this story. A/N: I would like to thank Jynx67 from Perfect Imagination for taking the time to beta my story. Also in this story there maybe some dialogue from either the books or the movies. If there is I'll try to change it so it's not the same thing. I have taken the liberty of deleting this story and reposting it due to some comments and things. Hope that the changes are better and have improved the story line for everyone. If you see anything that needs to be improved than please leave a review and I'll do the best that I can to make things run smoother. The start of this story comes from the memory scene in book seven where Snape and Albus have there discussion with regards to what has happened. From there we proceed onto the Dursleys and the story really starts here. With regards to Rita Skeeter she is a journalist at this time because if my memory serves me right I am pretty sure that in the goblet of fire movie I saw her busily on a type writer taking notes of what was happening. If you're worried about characters being out of character than you don't need to threat because Snape will always be Snape as will everyone else. I'll do my best to keep everyone in check but you all need to realise that this is an Alternative Universe story and there will be some changes to the story line and for some characterisation as well. Also by making this my starting point it's something new and fresh. Besides I am sure that you'll appreciate something from a new and different perspective. For those who think that my work is dull, boring and whatever I want you to know that unless I receive a lot of support, suggestions and other kinds of encouragement from you guys I can easily turn this story into a Harry/Ginny story. If I end up doing what I just mentioned want you to know that you loss is there gain. So my harmoine supporters its up to you weather this stays a Harry/Hermione ship or it becomes a Harry/Ginny fan fiction story. The fate of this story is in your hands. Chapter One: Harry Potter becomes the Boy who lived. He Who Must Not Be Named Vanquished! By Rita Skeeter In the early hours of the morning on the thirty-first of October, 1981, You-Know-Who was vanquished by the hands of fifteen month year old Harry James Potter. From what we can gather from several sources is that You-Know-Who discovered the place where James, Lily and Harry Potter were living and set out to kill them. During the attack at their home in Godric's Hollow, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named was able to kill James and Lily Potter, but was unable to kill little Harry. With this attack occurring and the results from it, I would like to announce that today is a day for celebrating as well as a day for mourning. The reason for this is that with the downfall of You-Know-Who, we are all in debt to Harry James Potter, the Boy Who Lived, because he was able to end the reign of terror that we have been experiencing. Also, we must remember that this has come with a cost to little Harry. He is now an orphan because of the loss of both his parents. While this is the case, the question that we need to ask is what is going to happen to little Harry? Who is going to raise and look after him? What is to become of him? How... It was at this moment that Albus Dumbledore stopped reading the article that was on the front page of the Daily Prophet and placed it on his desk. He got up from behind his desk and walked over to the window so that he could gaze through his window. No sooner had he commenced looking over the school grounds of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Albus, who had been upset by the attack, said, “Why? Why did it have to happen? Where did I go wrong? I thought that James, Lily and little Harry, were safe and sound under the Fidelius Charm? They were only under the charm for a week and now only little Harry is left…” Albus was brought out of his musings by an owl arriving and the sound of the gargoyle coming alive. Sensing that he was about to have company, Albus returned to his desk and resumed his seat. “Please come in Severus.” Upon hearing that he could enter the office, a tall man clad in black robes and with black, greasy hair strode towards the desk of Dumbledore, and before he could even reach him, Severus yelled out, “HOW COULD YOU ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN? YOU GAVE ME YOUR WORD THAT YOU WOULD PROTECT THEM ALL, ESPECIALLY LILY?” By now, tears were running down Severus' face. Noticing that the man was upset, Albus calmly said, “Severus, you're not the only one who is upset by these recent events. To me, the loss of James and Lily is something that should have been avoided.” “Headmaster, what do you mean by that?” “The thing is, Severus, James and Lily placed their faith in the wrong person. If I had known that Sirius Black was the spy for Lord Voldemort, then I would have insisted to James and Lily that I be their Secret-Keeper. However, James wanted Sirius and since it was their decision, I decided to abide by what they wanted to do. Yet despite this awful tragedy, little Harry survived, and it's to that matter we now need to discuss.” “What's there to discuss about him?” “Severus, it is because his life is in extreme danger. Since Voldemort was unable to successfully kill Harry, he won't rest until that has been accomplished, and also since he knows part of the prophecy, that is the thing that is going to determine the final encounter. With Tom being destroyed, I am going to need all the help that I can get so that Harry will be well protected. Severus, I need your help with this delicate task.” “Isn't it bad enough that you failed to protect Lily, but now you want my assistance by helping to protect that little brat?” Hearing this insult, Albus spoke in a tone of voice that made Severus slump into his chair. “You will cease this hatred that you have for James this very moment. The thing is Severus …” Albus calmed down and continued in a much softer tone. “Harry may be a carbon copy of James, he has Lily's emerald green coloured eyes, and another thing that I am certain that he has from his mother is her loving, compassionate side.” Severus looked Albus in the eyes. “Are you sure and positive about those things?” “I am certain that what I have just mentioned to you is indeed true. Now, do I have your help with regards to protecting Harry?” “Yes, Albus, I'll assist you with regards to protecting the boy. What is it that you want me to do, and what is to become of him now that his parents are dead?” “The help that I will require from you, Severus, is that the moment Harry steps into Hogwarts, he will be faced with many dangers and trials. With these things, I won't be able to protect him from all of them, and there are bound to be things that you'll be able to assist with. All that I ask is if something comes up, you'll be able to come up with a reason for helping. As to what will happen with regards to his upbringing, I am personally going to deliver him to his only remaining family so that they can raise and protect him from all kinds of harm.” “Just what kind of protection can these relatives possibily provide to Harry?” “The magic that I am hopefully going to invoke between Harry and his relatives will be so strong that Tom and any Death Eaters who wish to harm Harry will be unable to do so. If they try to attack him while he is at this place, the results will be somewhat terrible for the parties who mean harm to him.” “May I ask as to where you will be taking Harry and when are you going to take him there?” “I shall be delivering Harry to his relatives early in the morning. As to where he will be staying, I am sorry to say that I must keep that information a secret for the timing being. Severus, I believe that is all that we need to discuss for now. If you don't mind, I have several things that need to be done and I have a letter that I need to read.” “Of course, Headmaster. I'll just leave you to do whatever you need to do.” Snape got up and headed towards the door. Just as he was about to open it, Albus said, “Severus, Horace Slughorn has just retired from his post as the Potions Master of Hogwarts and as head of Slytherin house. Are you slightly interested in becoming a professor at Hogwarts? If you choose to take the position, it will guarantee you the perfect cover story for if and when Tom returns?” With this prospect being handed to him, Severus knew that he would be following his master's orders, because he instructed him to spy on Dumbledore. Since it would provide him with protection that he very much needed, Severus replied by saying, “I'll take the position, Headmaster. When do I commence work?” “You can start as of this moment, Severus, because the moment that Horace heard the news of Lily's death, he decided to leave at once.” “In that case, I'll take my leave and head down to the dungeons so that I can start and prepare my lessons.” With that, Snape took his leave from Albus' office. After the door closed behind him, Dumbledore took the letter from the owl and opened it to see what it said. Professor Dumbledore, I have successfully rescued Harry and removed him from the ruined building just as you requested me to do. At the present time, the both of us are hiding safely at the place where you told me to take him. From what I can make out, little Harry is ok, although he now has a lightening shaped scar on his forehead. Apart from that thing, he seems to be ok and is doing well. I'll bring him to the place that you're meeting me at around five in the morning so that you can hand him over to his relatives. See you soon, Hagrid Upon reading the letter from his friend, Albus sent the following reply back to him. Hagrid, Thank you so much for rescuing Harry from the remains of the Potter home. I'll be more than happy to meet you at the mentioned time that you told me in your previous letter. Take care and I'll see you shortly. Albus Dumbledore After sealing and placing the letter into an envelope, Albus turned to his left and faced the perch of where his familiar pet Fawkes the Phoenix was resting. Noticing that Fawkes was his normal self, Albus got up for a second time and made his way over to the bird. Upon reaching him Albus said, “Fawkes, can you please take this letter to where Hagrid is hiding with little Harry for me?” Fawkes instantly played a note of his song that told Albus that he would take it to him. Hearing that the answer was yes, Dumbledore quickly handed the letter over to the bird, and no sooner had he received it, Fawkes disappeared in a flash of fire. After that had been done, Albus sighed and returned to his desk so that he could sort out the pile of paperwork that he had to get through since he was the Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot. **** During the conversation that Albus and Severus were having in Dumbledore's office at Hogwarts, several parties across the Magical World of Great Britain were cheering the downfall of Lord Voldemort. During the festivities, people danced in the streets, set off fireworks, jumping up and down, running around the community sharing the wonderful news, and when it came to drinking, people stood up and raised there goblets and said, “To Harry Potter, The Boy Who Lived!” The mood and excitement at every location was bright, cheerful, and overall, everyone was having a great time. While all of the celebrating was occurring, a cat had perched herself on top of a fence so that she could look at a house to see what kind of Muggles these people were. From what this cat could make out, these people were probably the most awful people that she had ever met. As to why they were dreadful was because they had a winging son whom they seemed to spoil, and judging by the size of the child, who appeared to be around the same age as Harry, was overly sized and if things continued, the boy would end up being the size of a baby whale or a that of a pig. With regards to the boy's parents, the father has the same conditions as his son and for the mother is tall, lean. Instead of giving her child some kind of punishment, she just gives him a lolly pop to keep him quiet. It was at this scene that the cat just shook her head in disgust. After getting her composure back and shaking her head, the cat returned her gaze back to the home and waited patiently for the arrival of a certain person so that he could hear the kind of report that she had concerning these people. Over the next several hours, the fluffy, soft animal remained vigilant during her watch and she didn't budge from her spot. By now, the cat had started to get awfully stiff from staying in the same spot all day. Luckily for her, the person whom she had been expecting finally arrived. It was around four in the morning when a man with long, white hair and an extremely long, sweeping beard appeared on Privet Drive in the town of Little Whinging. The man was here because he had come to deliver Harry to his remaining family, just as he had told Severus he would. The man withdrew an object from his robes that looked like a Muggle cigarette lighter. As soon as he had the item in his hand, he pointed it towards the street lights. No sooner had he pointed it at the first post, the light that shone inside of it instantly went out. After the first post had become dark and cold, the tall figure moved onto the next post and did the exact same thing. He continued until the last light had been extinguished and the entire street was completely darkness. (usually it's light that bathes, not darkness.) While he was dealing with the lights, the man noticed a very familiar cat had perched herself on top of a fence post. Dumbledore returned the lighter to his robes and with drew his wand. With the wand in his right hand, Albus waved it in a huge arc and at the same time he silently muttered, "Repello Muggletum." This spell makes sure that all Muggles in the neighbourhood who gazed, walked past or approached number four Privet Drive while Albus was meeting with the Dursleys would immediately remember to do something else. Once the spell had been cast and seeing that it indeed had worked correctly, Dumbledore placed his wand along side the lighter in his robes. “I should have known that you would be here, Professor McGonagall.” At the sound of her name being mentioned, the cat instantly transformed back into a human. “Good evening, Professor Dumbledore,” said Minerva McGonagall as she walked over to where Albus was standing. “Albus, a rumour has been circulating that James and Lily have been killed, and that You-Know-Who has been destroyed. Is this true, Albus, and why have you placed a Muggle-Repelling Charm around this area?” “Minerva, I am sorry to say that what you have heard about James and Lily is indeed true. Also it's true that Voldemort has been vanquished. As for the charm, I don't wish any of the Muggle neighbours to notice anything unusual when I speak with Mr. and Mrs. Dursley.” Minerva looked Albus straight in the eye. “Albus, the use of the charm makes sense because the last thing that we want to do is to reveal our world to them, but how on Earth did this happen? I thought that they were safe in hiding?” “What I can gather from the reports that I have received, the Secret-Keeper gave the location of where James, Lily and Harry were living to Tom. After receiving the location, Voldemort immediately set out for their home. He instantly killed them both in cold blood. After he had murdered James and Lily, he turned his wand onto little Harry, but for some strange reason, the killing curse that he tried to use on Harry backfired and it hit him instead.” Hearing the sad tale, Minerva pulled out a handkerchief to wipe away the tears that were threatening to fall from her eyes. “Since James and Lily are deceased, Albus, what is now going to happen to Harry?” “I have come to bring Harry to this place so that his aunt and uncle can raise him” “Are you sure that is a wise thing to do, Albus? I have watched these people all day and they're the worst possible Muggles that I have ever met in my lifetime. They have a son about Harry's age who they spoil rotten, and as a result of this, he is huge for his age. Another thing that I could sense is that Mrs. Dursley seems to be depressed for some unknown reason.” “As to why the boy is spoilt so much, Minerva, is because Petunia is unable to have anymore children of her own. While I do not know the full story, I believe that by adopting Harry, Vernon and Petunia will find the happiness of having a second child in their family and also it may help with the way that they're treating there own son.” Minerva smiled at this news. "Oh, Albus! That is a lovely idea. I am sure that Harry will bring them happiness, but where is he?" "I was wondering when you would ask about Harry." Albus chuckled. "Even as we speak, I believe that Hagrid is on his way with the little bundle of joy." Minerva was shocked to hear that Hagrid was bringing Harry here. "Albus , do you think that it is wise that we should trust Hagrid with a delicate task like this?" (I'm not sure what the problem is with the formatting of this paragraph. It won't fix itself.) "I have no doubts in my mind that Hagrid will deliver Harry safely to us. As it is, I trust Hagrid with my life." "Do you know how long Hagrid will be? It is getting quite close to dawn." Albus pulled out a watch from his robes and checked the time. After taking a quick look, Albus happily responded, "Minerva, I believe that Hagrid should be arriving just about ... now." On the last word, Albus and Minerva could hear the distant grumble of an engine that was heading in their direction. Soon, they could hear that the engine was very close to them . The two professors turned to where the sound was coming. Minerva looked down the lane, whereas Albus looked up into the sky. He could see that a motorbike was flying in their direction at an alarmingly fast rate. Albus spoke again, "If you care to look up, Minerva, I believe that you shall find the source of the noise." Minerva's head jerked immediately to look up at the sky and she noticed the motorbike that was heading in their direction. Before Minerva could say anything, the rider touched the bike to the ground. Minerva noticed that the driver of the bike was very large person, not unlike the bike, but it was not until the bike was on the ground that she recognised that the man was none other than Hagrid. Hagrid turned of the bike, and spoke to the professors. "Professor Dumbledore, sir, Professor McGonagall, I've brought Harry, just like you asked." "Thank you, Hagrid," Dumbledore said with a smile. "Did you have any problems at all?" "No sir, there were no problems. I was able to rescue little Harry from the ruined house before the Muggles arrived." "Well in that case, I am glad that he is safe. Now, I believe that it is time that we place Harry in the care of his new family. Hagrid, if you please?" Hagrid gently handed Harry over to Albus. As he handed the tiny baby over, Hagrid spoke, "Professor Dumbledore, please be careful with him. The little tyke fell asleep as we were flying over Bristol." "Don't worry, Hagrid, I'll be very careful with him," Dumbledore said softly, and held Harry in his arms securely, but gently. He allowed Minerva to look at the child, who resembled his father so much it was uncanny. Looking at the child, Minerva instantly noticed that there was a lightening shaped scar on Harry's forehead. "Albus, that scar; is that the place where Voldemort tried to kill Harry? Or is it a result that Harry survived the killing curse?" "I am afraid that the scar on Harry's forehead is the result of the Killing Curse which failed. While I do not fully understand what the scar means for Harry, I do know that this scar is a curse." "Do you think that it is possible to remove the scar from him?" “If there is a way that I could remove the scar from Harry, I would have done so already. However, I think that it would be wise for us to leave the scar alone. I believe that this scar will become useful for Harry in the future. Now if we have nothing else to discuss, I believe that it's time for you both to leave because it's nearly dawn and the neighbours will be starting to rise. Also, I don't think it would be wise if they saw you riding that motorbike, Hagrid?” Minerva asked, “Hagrid, I don't mean to be rude, but where on earth did you get that motorbike?” “Sirius Black gave it to me so that I could bring Harry here to Professor Dumbledore,” Hagrid answered “Why would Sirius give you this bike to use? He absolutely loves that bike.” “I have no idea as to why he gave it to me, but he did say that I could borrow it for as long as I needed to.” Albus looked at them sternly. “I hate to disturb this fascinating conversation, but dawn is about to break. Hagrid, since time is wasting away, may I suggest that you return to your hut with the bike for now and return it back to Sirius later today, because the last thing that we want is for some Muggle seeing you flying that thing.” Hagrid chuckled, a deep rumbling sound, at Albus' words. "You're right, Professor, I had better return the bike to Sirius before he asks where I have been," Hagrid agreed, walking back to the bike. Upon reaching the bike, Hagrid quickly placed his helmet back on and started the bike up with a resounding bang. Since the bike would need a lot of speed to take off, Hagrid quickly rode the bike to the end of Private Drive, gaining momentum. As soon as he reached the end of the drive, he placed his hand on the accelerator and took off full throttle. After the bike was airborne and well under way, Albus turned to face Minerva and said, “Minerva, can you please return to Hogwarts and see to that everything runs smoothly. If anyone asks where I am, please inform them that I have been detained with an urgent task and I'll be back as soon as everything has been sorted out.” “Of course Albus, and good luck with meeting Mr. and Mrs. Dursley.” Minerva Apparated back to Hogwarts so that she could take of things there while Albus and Harry disappeared from sight and waited until the Dursleys were awake so that he could have a conversation with them regards to Harry's future. -->
