Do Her In
What more could Hermione want?
She was a happy witch with great friends and good grades. She had a loving family, a good life in her school, Hogwarts and Malfoy seems to be losing his touch when he insults her.
And again, what more could Hermione want?
Her happiness however took a turn when she overheard her two best friends talking about something and this made her feel worried and scared…
Hermione walked down the common room during lunch of the first day of the
Easter holidays. Today, she was going to meet Harry and Ron at the lake for a little get-together.
She climbed down the Grand Staircase and traversed to the entrance hall and to the lake. She spotted her two boys (as Ginny would call them) sitting by the lake their backs to her. Hermione walked towards them and when she was a few feet from them, Harry suddenly started ranting.
“She's gonna pay” Harry blurted out making Hermione froze “You hear me, Ron? She's gonna pay for every second she's done to me in my life here in Hogwarts”
“That's right” Ron agreed with a brisk nod
What are they talking about?
Hermione backed away and stood behind a nearby tree. Harry continued his ranting while Hermione peeked.
“Will she ever leave me alone? All she does is nag, nag, nag and I don't give a damn about it but she keeps doing it! When will it stop?”
“I think it will stop if we teach her a lesson” said Ron punching his palms “You know, put some sense on her stupid noggin… she think she's so smart”
Hermione's eyes widened and finally came to a conclusion.
They're talking about me!
“Not now though,” Harry spoke after the long silence “I don't want any trouble after what happened at Potions last Friday”
“Yeah, you're right” Ron agreed “Where's she?” Ron looked around the lake in an irritable way.
This was her cue, Hermione walked out of her hiding place, walked towards them and said
“Er - Hey” she said this quietly
Harry and Ron turned to her and replied as she sat down beside Harry feeling anxious.
“What took you?” Harry asked irritably overlooking the sun's reflection on the lake.
“I-I was at the library” she replied quietly drawing circles at the ground.
Harry groaned and scratched his head while Hermione bit her lower lip.
Then a mosquito landed on Harry's arm. Hermione knew the consequences when a mosquito bites.
“Harry” she said
“What?”
“Y-You have a mosquito on your -”
Without warning, Hermione vigorously slapped the spot on Harry's arm where the mosquito was. This however didn't make Harry happy.
“Ow! Hermione!” he yelled as he rubbed his arm in pain
“I'm sorry!” she squealed trying to hold his arm but he pulled it away as he massaged the red hand mark on his arm.
“You're gonna pay for that one” he muttered making Hermione panic
“I-I didn't mean to - I just -”
She didn't finish her sentence. She turned on her heel and ran up to the castle feeling bad as ever.
- - -
“What did I do? I don't remember doing anything to Harry except for that slap on the arm”
Hermione pondered about this. Why was Harry angry with her? She didn't do anything wrong… maybe she did something tactless? Hermione shook her head.
She sought refuge under the ceiling of her beloved library. If Harry was going to do something to her then at least finds somewhere to hide till his mood cools down.
“Maybe,” she spoke while resting her head on her hands “I can talk to him. Yeah, that's right. Maybe I can ask him what's bothering him about me and maybe we can discuss about it. That's a good idea”
Hermione walked out of the library and headed for the common room. While walking, Hermione's been thinking on why Harry is so angry at her.
“I think it's when I bit his head off last year… no, we both apologized for that”
She then felt someone bumping her. Hermione apologized but her face nearly froz when it was Harry.
“Oh,” she nearly gasped “Hi Harry”
“Hermione” Harry looked into her eyes. Hermione noticed he was still holding his arm. “Can I ask you something?”
Hermione didn't listen. She was looking at the red mark on Harry's arm.
“Did I do that?” she spoke softly
Harry followed her gaze and his face turned a bit stern.
“Yup, and I thank you for that” his tone had a twinge of irate and sarcasm. He sighed “Looks like you owe me something”
Hermione gulped as Harry reached in for his robe. Before she could see what he took out she sprinted past him.
“Oh no” Hermione muttered “I'm really in hot water now”
“HERMIONE!”
Hermione turned her head and saw Harry catching up. She sped up and was able to lose him when she entered a deserted classroom.
“What did I do to you?” she moaned as she leant on the door her hands on her forehead. “Did I hurt you or something?”
Hermione pressed her ear on the door and heard nothing. Turning the knob she broke into a run the moment the door stood ajar.
She was going to avoid Harry for the whole day or else otherwise, he's going to do her in.
- - -
On her stomach, Hermione woke up from a dreamless sleep. She stared at her wristwatch which told her it was eleven o'clock evening. She must've overslept.
She pushed herself upward with her hands shifting her position. She then felt something hit her head making a soft thud.
“Ouch,” she groaned rubbing her head as she winced and yawned “I knew I should've stayed at the broom cupboard”
For the whole day, Hermione stayed at the most secluded classroom in the castle and during her refuge inside, she fell asleep.
Hermione pulled the robe which was keeping her warm just a few inches from her and put it on. She was going to the common room.
Hermione left the classroom and cautiously ventured down to the Gryffindor Tower which was only two flights of stairs away. She finally reached to the portrait of the Fat Lady and muttered the password lazily.
She clambered into the portrait hole to find it empty.
“Thank heavens” she said when she walked across the common room.
But what stopped her from climbing up to the girl's staircase was the sight of Harry coming down the staircase of the boy's dormitories. His face had a flicker of surprise.
“Oh” was all Hermione said as she tries to run to the portrait hole.
“Hey!” Harry called out
Before she could climb up, Harry grabs her by the wrist and turns her around. Luckily, Hermione whips out her wand and point it at him.
“Get away from me, Harry!” she cried “I know you are plotting to hurt me or whatever -”
“What?” Harry said sounding bemused
“I know you've been looking for me so you can do me in after for God knows what I've done!”
Hermione was surprised when Harry was smirking
“Is that why you were avoiding me for the whole day?” he asked
Hermione didn't say anything but just nodded curtly.
“I-I was avoiding you because you were going to hurt me or do me in or something like that and - Why are you laughing?”
Hermione was irritated because Harry was laughing
“Hermione,” he said walking up to her. Hermione took a step backwards “Never in my life that I would hurt my best friend”
Hermione looked down and felt Harry lifting her chin up to him.
“I will never hurt you, ever. You caused me pain some days back but I will never return the pain to you. I promise”
“But how about the lake and -”
“We weren't referring to you” Harry cut her off “We were referring about Parkinson. She insulted you and her gang of Slytherin girls was also in it so me and Ron got mad and now are hot as hell about it.”
“Then why were you looking for me?”
“I was trying to solve your strange behavior at the lake and of course trying to get to the bottom of your sudden horrific faces when you see me. I thought you didn't want me around you anymore”
“I-I don't” Hermione said looking sideways embarrassed since she saw the real reasons
“Hermione,” Harry lifted her chin “I don't want you to think I'm that kind of person. I will never hurt you, okay?” he hugged her. Hermione found this very satisfying while she hugged him back. “If anyone is going to hurt you, they have to get to me before - Hermione, are you crying?”
Hermione realized she was. She was very touched that Harry was so sweet to her she suddenly burst into tears. Harry pulled away and held her by the shoulders in arm's length.
“D-Did I say something?” Harry said
“No” she replied quietly sniffing here and there “I-I'm just happy that I have such a loving friend” she looked up to him and smiled “Thank you, Harry”
Harry smiled and gave her a peck on the cheek. Hermione stopped crying and looked at Harry with embarrassment. She noticed she was blushing.
“You know,” Harry cupped her cheeks “Parkinson called you ugly but I don't see that” Hermione felt his thumb wiping away her tears “You're very beautiful, Hermione. You know that?”
Hermione sniffed and embarrassingly nodded not looking at his eyes.
“Do you need anything?”
“No thank you” Hermione sniffed with a hiccup
“You're okay then?”
“Yes”
There was a long pause then
“Did you really mean it? I'm beautiful?”
“Yeah,” Harry said “I failed to acknowledge it but I can't deny it any longer since - you know, I have feelings for you -”
Hermione saw Harry gasped and cupped his mouth with his right hand as if he swore a very bad word.
“What?” Hermione knew she heard him very clearly
“N-Nothing” Harry said “I-I er - uh… I think I'm going to bed now”
“Harry!” Hermione exclaimed when Harry fled to the boy's dormitory.
Hermione was alone in the dormitory. A smile spread across her face knowing that on the days to come, Harry will have a lot to explain and that he has a little thing for her.
