Kiss The Girl
“Ron," Hermione giggled “I'm telling you that spiders aren't that scary. If you can't handle them then how can you participate in today's activity?”
“Leave me alone, Hermione” Ron shook his head “It's best to leave me to my business…”
Hermione rolled her eyes and went to her bacon.
Hermione, Harry and Ron were at the Great Hall for breakfast and Ron has been very tense on today's lesson in Care of Magical Creatures which has something to do with spiders.
“That Hagrid,” Ron spoke furiously as he prodded his pudding hopelessly “Can't believe he'd do spiders this year. What was he even thinking? Spiders are icky, hairy and they bite too, you know”
“Oh Ron,” Hermione argued “Get a hold of yourself. Face your fears and do the test! Besides, it's only for the day”
Ron didn't reply so Hermione just sighed sadly and turned to Harry.
“Hey,” she smiled at him.
“Hey,” Harry smiled back at her as he took a bite out of her country sausages.
“So,” she put an elbow on the table and rested her chin on the arm that was propped up “Will you be okay with the whole spider lessons of Hagrid? You know, after your experience with Aragog”
Harry laughed.
“Hermione, that was four years ago. Spiders don't scare me anyway… but I have to admit, I'm afraid of spiders when they are big.”
“You are so cunning these days” Hermione patted Harry's shoulder “I'm worried, Harry. I have to tell you but if the Sorting Hat has sent you to Slytherin then -”
“ - then Potty will be my faithful second banana” a drawling voice cut them from behind. It was Harry's rival, Draco Malfoy and behind him were his muscular cronies, Crabbe and Goyle.
“What is it now, Malfoy?” Hermione said hotly
“Sorry Granger but I don't speak to garbage” Malfoy sneered as he went closer to the three.
“Don't you have something better to do?” Ron spat.
“Isn't telling how richer I am than you better than anything, Weasley? Face it, no matter what you are” he snatched an apple from Ron who was about to eat it “you will always try to beg from the superiors”
“Take that back” Harry and Ron said in unison as they stood up.
“See?” Malfoy raised his hands smugly “Fine. Beggars can't be choosers anyway. Hey Goyle, catch”
Malfoy tossed the apple and Goyle caught it laughing stupidly.
“Didn't block it did you, weasel?” He chuckled “It goes to show how inferior you are in keeping a Quaffle out of a goal post”
Hermione couldn't take it anymore. She held a consoling hand to Ron and Harry.
“Sit down,” she said “I'll handle this”
Ron was still shaking but he sat down and Harry did so too. Hermione stood up and looked at Goyle.
“Goyle, I'd appreciate it if you give that apple back to me”
Goyle just laughed at her while holding the apple.
“Fine,” Hermione took out her wand and pointed it at Goyle. Goyle was about to jump out of the way when Hermione said “Accio, apple!”
The apple slipped from Goyle's hand and went to Hermione's while Hermione made a stern look.
“So,” Hermione turned to Malfoy “As a prefect I do have the right to dock points off of you for bullying”
Malfoy just glared at her.
“Whatever,” he spat “no matter how loved you are by the faculty you will soon eat your words. C'mon.”
Malfoy left with Crabbe and Goyle following him in his wake.
“I can't believe him!” Hermione steamed “Here Ron,” she slapped the apple in his hand “eat before anything happens”
“You know,” Harry said “You should've let Ron and I do the talking”
“No,” Hermione sternly said “I don't want you two going off to detention especially when Christmas is coming closer”
Hermione drank her goblet of grape juice and left the Great Hall with Harry and Ron for their first lesson of the day, Transfiguration.
As usual McGonagall did her strict teaching towards her students even if it is her house. The only teacher who gives accommodations to his house is Professor Snape, Head of the Slytherin House.
Today's lesson was interesting. It was about Metamorphmagi.
“Metamorphmagi isn't a branch of magic that can't be learned or obtained” McGonagall said as she walked down the aisle “It is usually a rare gift to wizards and witches. Metamorphmagus are born with the skill and with that they can change their appearance at will. From the hair on their head till nose...” She paused “Now can anyone tell me about how a Metamorphmagus transforms? Yes, Miss Granger?”
Hermione, who had her hand on the air, answered.
“Actually, the transformation is very, very brief. The Metamorphmagus will just make it happen in just seconds.”
“Very good, Miss Granger” McGonagall beamed “Five points to Gryffindor”
“Thank y-y-y-ou…” Hermione croaked. Hermione cleared her throat and repeated “Thank you” except her voice was almost like a whisper. Hermione held her neck wondering why her voice is like this…
“Miss Granger?” McGonagall looked at her “Is there something wrong?”
Hermione shook her head wincing a bit. She sat down and tried to speak but her voice was like a whisper. After trying to talk, all she got was mouthing of the word “hello” and “bye” and before she knew it, she was voiceless. She lost her voice!
“Hermione?” it was Ron who was beside her “Are you okay?”
Hermione just smiled and nodded. When Ron turned away Hermione bit her lower lip as McGonagall rambled on the lesson.
I can't speak! What's happening? Why can't I say anything? Did I talk too much back then? Calm down, Hermione!
Hermione inhaled and exhaled and looked at Ron who was looking at McGonagall sleepily. Hermione turned to her right and at the next row of seats beside her was Harry who was doing the same thing as Ron except he seemed more attentive. Hermione couldn't help but smile at Harry since he is trying his best especially when N.E.W.T.s is coming this year.
Somehow, Hermione caught Harry's attention because he turned to her and smiled back at her. Hermione seemed a bit intimidated by the smile but she shook the feeling off and stared back to her table.
You can't speak, then. There must be an explanation to this. I don't remember taking any Silencing Potions or shouting at the top of my lungs or someone casting Silencing Charm on me. Oh, wait! If I can't speak then…
Hermione's eyes widened.
…then I can't recite in classes! Oh, no… this is bad. I have to find a way to reverse this effect.
“Miss Granger”
Hermione looked up to see McGonagall looking at her sternly.
“Being the top of my class doesn't give you the right to stare into space and not listening.”
Hermione nodded apologetically and bit her lower lip again.
Oh, dear…

Hermione didn't take the morning break that day. After Transfiguration Hermione silently left the group going to the Great Hall making sure Harry and Ron didn't see her and made her way to the library.
Who could've made me like this? I don't recall someone hexing me with a Silencing Charm or drinking any Silencing Potion…
Hermione stopped on her tracks and thought.
Silencing Potion? No, it can't be. I haven't drank anything weird or -
Then she remembered Malfoy back in the Great Hall. He must've done something that made her like this. He even said that she'll “soon eat her words”. Hermione speculated that when she was busy dealing with Goyle and the apple Malfoy was too quick and placed something in her drink. Goyle was like a diversion.
Ooooh, trust Malfoy to do this to me, Hermione steamed. She wasn't sure it was him but knowing Malfoy, it could be.
She reached the library, gave a nod to Madam Pince, the strict librarian, went to the section about status ailments. Hermione found the book she wanted and opened it immediately.
Where is it?
Hermione flicked from page to page and found what she was looking for.
Aha… just as I suspected. Hermione smirked as she read the page devoted to the ailment “Silence”.
Hermione left the library with a small pit in her stomach a few minutes later. She just read everything about her problem but being silent isn't all that cracked up to be.
The remedy to “Silence” wasn't an easy one.
The effect can be cured by three ways. Take an antidote or wait in two weeks till her voice comes back. Hermione wished this was it since all she could do is walk to the hospital wing and ask for the antidote, problem solved!
The third, however, isn't an easy one. Hermione grimaced at the thought. The third remedy of Silencing is neither an antidote nor a medicine nor any like that but something that is - er - physical.
The third remedy is a simple kiss. That's right, a kiss! Hermione stuck her tongue between her teeth in disgust just thinking of it!
Before she could get paranoid at the option, she reminded herself that she can just take the antidote so kissing someone is already out of the question. Feeling slightly better, Hermione went for the hospital wing.
Hermione left the wing looking disgruntled. Madam Pomfrey just told her that the antidote she wanted was out of stock due to the silencing fiasco that occurred during the Defense Against the Dark Arts class with the first years a week ago. Madam Pomfrey told her she did not need to worry because there will be another stock coming in by owl order sometime this week. Hermione could just wait for those but think of the humiliation she might get when a teacher calls her in class. They might think she is being rude to them and -
This is so bad. Hermione thought.
The whole day was pretty fine for Hermione. She tried to be attentive in class throughout the whole morning and praying that the professors won't call her. Every time someone would talk to her, Hermione would just nod, shake her head, shrug or raise her eyebrows when the occasion calls it. She just did this and everything went well for the next few hours. Things were going right for her. Well, it was until lunchtime when Harry approached her.
“Hermione, are you alright?”
Hermione turned away from her pork chop and saw Harry looking at her. She raised her eyebrows signaling Harry that she didn't understood what he said.
“I said,” Harry repeated “Are you alright? I noticed you haven't spoken in a while especially when Professor Flitwick asked the class what was a Protean Charm and of course,” Harry smiled “I was expecting you to answer that but you didn't… Are you sure you're alright?”
Hermione just smiled and shook her head and went back to her pork chop.
“You sure?” Harry said feeling pushing Hermione's bangs away feeling her forehead which startled her “Well, at least you are not sick”
She was flattered by Harry's concern but she didn't want to worry him about her status right now.
“Are you going to be alright while you'll be in Arithmancy?” Harry asked
Hermione just nodded taking a bite into her pork chop.
“Hermione,” Harry said sternly “Don't lie to me. I know something is wrong”
Hermione turned to Harry who was wearing a very serious look.
“You're not a good liar to friends, Hermione” Harry said “I know you are hiding something from me and Ron. Just tell us, we will understand”
Biting her lower lip, Hermione just shook her head.
“Don't shake your head, I know you're lying” Hermione could feel Harry's eyes bore into hers “Why don't you tell me? I care a lot about you and I'm worried… Is there something wrong?”
Biting her lower lip even harder, Hermione halfheartedly shook her head not meeting his eyes once more.
“Fine,” said Harry with a tone of indignation in his voice “If you don't want to tell me then I'm alright with that,”
Hermione started shaking her head apologetically but Harry seems to take it the wrong way.
“Stop shaking your head!” he rolled his eyes “If you don't want me to help you then… fine.” Then without saying anything more, Harry left the Great Hall.
Just great, Harry's angry with me.
Hermione finished her lunch and knew what to do. She was going to the library to reread the book again after classes. If this Silence thing is going to make her friends angry at her then she has to do something about it.
The last class, Care of Magical Creatures, ended after Hagrid showed them a bunch of spiders which made Ron pale the whole time. Everyone started to go to the castle for dinner and instead of going to the Great Hall, Hermione slipped away and ran for the library.
She entered the library and went to the aisle were the book she read earlier was. She found it, took it and read it on a desk nearby. Hermione started rereading every fact and figure in the book wondering if there are any remedies that she missed. Hermione flicked from page to page but found nothing. She started to feel hungry and rubbed her stomach wincing. Hermione continued on and on till her eyes felt droopy. She didn't look at her wristwatch but it seems that half an hour passed since she came here. Feeling sleepy Hermione flicked from page to page slowly then in an instant, she rested her head on the book and slept not checking which page she stopped on.

“I'm telling you, Ron,” Harry stood up from his squashy armchair walking towards the portrait hole “Something is going on with her and I'm worried”
Ron shrugged slouching even further on his chair.
“I dunno, Harry. But I did noticed her being a bit different today.”
“A bit different?” Harry rose an eyebrow “Ron, Hermione didn't utter a single word in every class today! That's not a bit different”
“Maybe she is in her - er - period? Girls are like that when they are on their period”
Harry rolled his eyes on the red head.
“Since when do you know how it is to live like a girl, anyway?” Harry asked
Ron just shrugged again.
“I dunno. I just guessed, perhaps? Look, if it's bothering you then go find her. She's probably at the library. She always goes there” Ron said
Harry shook his head and left the Gryffindor common room for the library.
Hermione was acting strange lately, thought Harry. He knew she was hiding something back then in lunch. But what was it? Harry hoped it wasn't anything serious.
Even though Harry didn't realize it but he found himself in the library. Ignoring Madam Pince who was stamping on some stack of books, Harry made his way throughout the large library searching for his friend.
To his surprise, Harry saw Hermione sleeping on a chair with her head lying on top of a large book.
“There you are,” Harry sighed walking towards her
Harry was about to wake her up when something caught his eye. The book Hermione was reading. It was very old. Harry moved a lock of Hermione's hair out of the way to see what she was reading. Maybe it might give a clue why she's acting weird lately.
- - -
“Hermione”
A voice filled Hermione's ears as she slumbered peacefully. Who is waking her up?
“Hermione, wake up”
Hermione shifted in her seat and ignored the voice stubbornly. Then a hand held her shoulder and started shaking her slightly.
“Hermione, wake up. It's me, Harry.”
Hermione opened her eyes slowly to see two green orbs looking her. Harry, her best friend, was smiling down at her warmly.
“Are you alright?”
Hermione bit her lower lip, shifted to a sitting position on her seat and without thinking she said.
“Oh Harry,” she moaned “I'm sorry I was rather distant with you awhile ago. I just had this problem with my -”
Then it hit her. She was talking!
“I-I'm talking!” Hermione cried “I can't believe it!”
“What do you mean?” Harry asked
“Nothing” Hermione sighed “I just had a tiny problem with some magic, that's all. Sorry if that made you too worried” she held an apologetic hand on Harry's arm.
“It's okay,” he smiled again “I'm just glad you're alright.”
“Yes, yes… I'm alright.” She paused relieved that it's over “Look, you go on ahead. I'll just relax a bit. I've had the weirdest day and I just want to get it all out by reading a book”
“Sure,” Harry said “Just don't sleep on an open book, I would sometimes read them if I catch you sleeping again.” He smirked, said goodbye and started walking towards the library exit.
Hermione smiled and went to see what book she was reading and saw it was on the page of the status ailment Silence. She made a weird smile thinking what will happen if she told everyone about it. Hermione was about to close the book when something hit her again in the head.
The third remedy.
Hermione remembered the third remedy of Silence. It was a simple kiss from someone in the lips. If she didn't take the antidote then who kissed her - ?
She did a double take and looked at Harry who was walking rather casually whistling as he went towards the exit of the library.
Hermione touched her lips and realized who kissed her. She blushed a bit and smiled at Harry who disappeared as he left doors of the library.
