Chapter 6: Champagne And Strawberries
As Hermione stepped into the penthouse at the top of The Ritz, she immediately had the sensation of falling off the top of the building. In front of her, was a sunken living room with massive windows revealing the sparkling lights of the city below. The floor was of a deep mahogany-brown wooden panelling and the settee, and the few seats spread around, were made of white leather. In the corner was a spacious kitchen and a well-filled bar. For the first time Hermione was speechless, the room was gorgeous! As Hermione began to wander round the room Harry picked up the phone by the door.
“Room Service,” Harry said into the phone.
Room service? He has his own kitchen for goodness sake.
“What do you drink?” asked Harry.
“Diet Coke,” answered Hermione, still in a daze by the room.
“Send up a bottle of Crystal champagne.”
“Can I have some crisps aswell?”
“And a bowl of strawberries. Thank You.”
“You know I would have been happy with coke and crips,” said Hermione pretending to look annoyed but smiling just the same.
“I know, but champagne and strawberries sounds so much better.” Harry said smirking.
Hermione made her way across the living room and stared at the view below her. It was beautiful. She sighed and closed her eyes. It was so quiet, so peaceful, she didn’t want it to end.
“Impressed?” asked Harry, coming up behind her and staring at her. She looked so innocent standing there that he almost forgot why he had brought her up.
Hermione opened her eyes and again looked at the view, the full moon, the thousands of stars blinking down at her, the clear sky, Hermione could not help but be impressed, but she wasn’t going to admit it.
“Are you kidding? I come here all the time.”
Harry smiled and sat down in a comfortable looking chair and leans back.
Hermione looked at him admiring his clearly defined muscles. “Well, now that you have me for the night, what are you going to do with me?”
“You want to know something?” asked Harry, when Hermione nodded he continued, “I don’t quite know. I hadn’t planned this.”
“Do you plan everything?” asked Hermione sitting down.
“Always,” said Harry with a small smile.
“Well times running, it’s your money. Speaking of which, cash’ll do. In advance.”
“Fair enough,” replied Harry standing up. He took out his wallet and dropped three crisp, new hundred pound notes in Hermione’s lap. She picked up the notes and stared at them, trying, in vain, not to be impressed. She put the money in her jacket and suddenly realised that Harry was standing over her as if waiting. Hermione leaned forward and reached out to unzip his jeans. He abruptly straightened up and turned away. “Let’s talk some more first,” said Harry trying to get a grip of himself, he so wanted her to unzip his pants and pleasure him but it could wait for awhile, after all he wasn’t supposed to be enjoying this, he had work to do first.
“Ok,” said Hermione. “So! In town on business,” said Hermione brightly, she was a little disappointed that he had pulled away. Wait a minute where did that come from? I’m not supposed to enjoy this, it’s just sex for gods sake it‘s not as if I haven‘t done it before and it’s not as if I like him. In your dreams Miss Granger! argued her brain.
“Yeah, on business.” said Harry, interrupting her from her thoughts.
“Let me guess, you’re a… lawyer.”
Harry scoffed, “Hardly.”
“You look like a lawyer.”
“Do I?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, I’m not.”
“So what do you do?” Harry was stumped. What am I going to say? I can’t just tell her I’m an Auror can I? I guess I could memory charm her if she’s a muggle.
“I, I work for the umm Ministry.”
“The Ministry?” asked Hermione eyebrows raised. Hermione had learned a lot about the ministry from around London, she had learned that the headquarters was right in the middle of London, but was off limits to all muggleborns such as herself. This guy couldn’t be a wizard could he? It certainly sounds like it. Hermione stared at Harry contemplating whether or not to let her wards down. If she did, any wizard within a ten foot radius would be able to sense her, but she had to take a chance.
Harry stared at her as she sat there weighing everything up and he knew then, in that precise minute, the minute that she stared deep into his eyes and let her wards down, that she was a muggleborn. As he sat there he couldn’t even begin to think how that he hadn’t noticed it before. The magical energy was coming off her in waves. She was a very powerful witch, muggleborn or not, so powerful in fact that she had been able to actually set up her own personal wards to keep anyone from sensing her. It was amazing, that gift was supposed to take years and years of schooling to master and she was a bloody prostitue and a muggleborn at that.
“You’re a witch?” asked Harry.
Hermione sighed, “Yes.”
“How did you-?”
“No!” Hermione shouted suddenly, standing up. “No, I may be a witch but I’m also a muggleborn and a prostitute.” Hermione sighed, “I don’t want to talk about it ok?” She continued when she saw Harry was trying to interrupt her. “Out of all the men, I have slept with, not one of them have been a wizard and I don’t want it to start now. I’m leaving.”
As she began to stand up, “You’ll do no such thing, I paid you three-hundred pound, you ain’t going anywhere!”
“Well fine you can have it back then!”
“No,” said Harry again. “Keep the money and stay, it’s only for this one night and by the way I saw you clutch the notes I know you need it.”
Hermione sighed, who was she kidding? She did need that money. “Fine,” said Hermione sitting back down. “But no talk about the past ok? I live for the future not the past.”
“Ok, I won’t mention anything.” said Harry holding his hands up.
“Good,” replied Hermione.
They sat there in silence for a few minutes until the doorbell rang.
“Champagne,” stated Harry and made to get up.
Hermione motioned for him to stay put. “Hey, I might aswell make myself useful.”
Harry sat back down and Hermione waltzed to the door and opened the front door. The waiter came into the room with a silver cart where on top was a bucket of champagne and a bowl of fresh and very plump strawberries.
“Where would you like it?” the waiter asked Hermione.
“Where would we like it.?” Hermione asked Harry.
“Here will be fine,” answered Harry to the waiter gesturing to the middle of the living room.
The waiter rolled the cart and set it in the middle of the livingroon, he turned and headed back to the door and pauses near Hermione. Hermione stares at him as he stared back.
“What are you looking at?” asked Hermione.
The waiter glanced away uncomfortably and left the room slamming the door behind him. Hermione marched back to her seat and flopped down into the chair.
“I think he wanted you to tip him.” smirked Harry
Hermione glared at him, “I don’t think he had change for a hundred.”
Harry crossed to the champagne and strawberries slightly perturbed by her behaviour, was it so bad that he found out she was muggleborn? Hermione watched Harry with interest as he twirled the champagne bottle in the ice bucket, she felt kind of bad for treating him so badly but noone except her family and Cho knew she was a muggleborn witch and she liked that arrangement, she didn’t know what to think that another person knew aswell. I guess it’s not so bad, he hasn’t thrown me out calling me a mud blood at least.
“You have a wife? Girlfriend?” asked Hermione, he seemed to be around her age, but she was interested anyway.
Harry smiled, glad that she was talking to him, “Not at the moment.” He lifted the bottle of champagne out of the ice bucket and popped the cork on the bottle without losing a drop of champagne. He’s done that before. Thought Hermione.
“One night stand man then?”
Harry chuckled, “You could say that.” Harry poured the champagne into two long-stemmed glasses and handed one to Hermione. “I haven’t really found someone I wanted to settle down with yet. All my friends have families, you could call me the odd one out. Cheers.” He brought his glass to hers and clinked his glass with hers. She immediately begins to gulp it down and she finds, to her surprise, that she likes it. Harry brought the strawberries onto the mahogany coffee table that was between them and placed them on it.
“Try a strawberry,” said Harry.
“Why?” asked Hermione.
“Because they bring out the flavour in the champagne.”
“Merlin, you act like you’re seducing some Valley girl you picked up in a dance club.”
“Hermione… times running… cooperate.”
Hermione slowly began to eat the strawberry, the juice of it staining her lips. Harry sighed, “You really are a beautiful girl.” said Harry softly.
“Just a romantic,” joked Hermione, but she couldn’t stop her heart beating faster. Harry began to lean towards her. Her mouth was so wet and inviting he couldn’t stop himself.
“Not on the lips,” said Hermione with some regret, “It’s too personal.”
Harry smiled and lowered his head to her breast.
