Title: What if…

Author: lilyheartsjames

Rating: PG-13

Genre: Romance/General

Summary: What if James and Lily never dated back in seventh year? What if they had never gotten married and had Harry? What if they had never died that fateful Halloween night? What if, what if, what if.

A/N: Well, I'm not exactly sure how long this story will be. I only have the first three chapters written so I'm going to keep writing and see where that takes me. This is AU seeing as Lily and James never dated in seventh year and all that jazz. Take a look at the pretty banner I had made for this story - http://img358.imageshack.us/img358/3144/whatif22hy4gj.png

Ahem, anywho, below is some brief info you need to know before reading the story, shortly followed by the introduction to the story.

Info on the Story:

This story is the `what if' of James and Lily's lives if they had never died that Halloween night. Lily never in fact dated James at Hogwarts in her seventh year, and this story takes place about 4-5 years after they graduated from Hogwarts. James is a professional Quidditch player (playing for the Canons), and Lily is a reporter for the Daily Prophet. They have not seen each other since Hogwarts. Sirius works at Gringotts, Remus cannot find employment, and Peter works in a small shop in Diagon Alley. I think that's all you really need to know. Oh, and Harry Potter obviously does not exist (…yet anyway).

Introduction:

At Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, it was a known fact that Lily Michelle Evans absolutely despised a certain popular, handsome, arrogant Quidditch player by the name of James Potter. And at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, it was also a very well-known fact that James Edward Potter absolutely adored a certain clever, intelligent, beautiful Muggleborn witch by the name of Lily Evans.

These two things were known by…everyone.

Lily had hated James since her very first day at Hogwarts and James had loved Lily ever since his very first day at Hogwarts. It was quite funny actually, to watch the two of them display their feelings towards each other, Lily bombarding James with insults, and James constantly complimenting her and asking her out on a date.

And despite the fact that James hoped and wished every night and every morning, pretty much every hour of every day for Lily to give him a chance, Lily sadly never gave him that chance. Not once. Apparently her hatred and dislike for him just ran too deeply.

So eventually there came a time when they graduated from Hogwarts, and all went their separate ways, and James was heartbroken to think that Lily had never in fact given him a chance, and that there was a good possibility he'd never even see her again.

Years later, after Lord Voldemort had been vanquished by just a tiny baby by the name of Neville Longbottom, and just as the wizarding world was beginning to return to its normal state again, James would stand on the balcony of his hotel room and look down at the landscape of city lights wondering silently and sadly where she was, and what had become of her.

A/N #2: I know short but chapter one will be coming soon. Very, very soon. Soon as in soon. I think you get the point. Thank you very much for reading; don't forget to review and after you do, have a nice day/night whatever time of day it is where you reside.
