“And the way you cut your hair…”

Lily Evans lay on her bed, her back leant up against the head board and her legs stretched out in front of her. Tendrils of her blood coloured hair fell about her shoulders as she nibbled the end of the quill, thinking what to write next on her letter to her parents.

However just as the redhead had loaded the nib with ink, a tap at the window caused her to jump and send spatters of the blue liquid all over her parchment. Growling, Lily threw her things on to the floor and stalked over to the window, certain she was going to wring the neck of the owl that was scrabbling away at her window.

Unhooking the latch she pushed open the window hard and heard a crunch as it collided with her boyfriends nose.

‘Damn it, Evans!’ cried James as he struggled to keep control of his broom while holding his nose which was, at that moment, dripping with blood, the coppery taste tainting his mouth also.

Lily bit her lip so as not to laugh, but felt slightly better about her ink stained parchment and bed sheet now. Leaning, her hands protruding as far as she could out of the window, she pulled James, and his latest sports broom, in.

Leading James over to her bed she sat him down then disappeared for a moment into her bathroom, but when she emerged she had a cloth and bowl of Murtlap essence in her hands. Kneeling down in front of her boyfriend, the redhead dipped the cloth into the lilac water, and dabbed at James’ nose watching as the white linen became red.

Standing up Lily sat astride James’ knees ,so she was facing him, and lifted both her hands to cloth so she could tend to his nose. Once all the blood had been soaked up and they had stemmed, what, at one point, seemed the never ending gush of blood, Lily threw the cloth onto the ground kissed James lightly on his nose, then travelled to his lips.

‘Hello, Lover.’ growled the redhead as she rested her forehead on James’.

She ran her fingers through his hair and noticed it had been cut; she hated it when James had his hair cut, it wasn’t long enough for her to run her fingers through properly or tug at when they were having a particularly passionate kiss.

‘James…’ she said, kissing the tip of the black haired boy’s nose.

‘Yes, Sweetie?’

‘What was one of things I told you never to do when I accepted to go out with you?’

James scrunched up his rugged features and gave the impression he was thinking hard, ‘Oh I remember; don’t grope you in front of teachers. Yeah, that was it.’

Lily smiled, a hint of pink adorning her cheeks, ‘What else?’

James thought for a moment and while he was doing so ran his hand through his shorter mane, and, as though a light bulb had been switched on, he realised his mistake.

‘…Not to cut my hair?’ he ventured.

‘Bingo! Give that man a coconut.’ said Lily sarcastically.

James looked at her slightly perplexed, ‘Wha-I don’t want a coconut…’

Lily rolled her eyes. ‘It’s a Muggle expression, James.’

‘Oh.’ was his response.

Lily sighed and leant on James, pushing him onto the bed so she was sprawled across him her head on his chest, his hands around her waist. Her fingers were itching to roam through his black mane but couldn’t. It was far to short to get a proper grip, she would have to wait at least a week for it to grow back. Oh how she hated the way he cut his hair.
