Author's Notes: I don't think many of you will need this, but obviously this story will not agree with canon and a few of the character's personalities will be a bit skewed, so don't shoot me, okay? It's meant to be set in Harry's 7th year.

For those of you familiar with the movie, I will be changing some things around and using some characters a little differently. The ending will be slightly different as well, to accommodate ships and for my own personal gratification. Most of it will be the same or very similar though.

This first chapter is very choppy and short but that's because I wanted to introduce each of the characters as they are kind of introduced in the movie: in little flashes in the car (well, obviously Hogwarts doesn't have cars…) or whatever.

There will be around 20-25 chapters probably, but that's an estimate there could be more or less. It depends. ;-)

So without further ado….

The Breakfast Club of Hogwarts

Dear Professor Snape,

We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice our Hogsmeade Saturday in detention for whatever it was that we did wrong, because what we did was wrong. But we think you're a bit mental to make us write an essay telling you what and who we think we are, what do you care, after all? You see us as you want to see us…in the simplest terms and the most convenient definitions. You see us as a know-it-all, a bighead, a lunatic, a brat, and a pure-blood. Correct? Well, that's exactly how we all saw each other at seven o'clock this morning. We were brainwashed…

It was looking to be a clear day on the grounds of Hogwarts Castle, and as Ginny Weasley and her roommates looked out the window, there was an obvious resentment on their faces. Ginny had a whole day of detention with Professor Snape for absolutely no reason - at least in the eyes of every girl in the room.

“Ugh!” Ginny shrieked to no one in particular. “I can't believe I can't get out of this! It's so stupid that I have to give up my Saturday…the first Hogsmeade day in months, not to mention! It's not like I'm defective or anything.”

Her friends all gathered around her comfortingly even as they were all getting reading to go into Hogsmeade village themselves.

“Of course, you're not defective, Ginny,” one of them said soothingly, bracing Ginny with her hands. “Skipping Potions to go catch that sale at Madam Malkins' does not make you defective, it makes you smart and fashionable. Don't worry, we'll make it up to you.”

Ginny rolled her eyes and stepped out of the circle of her friends morosely, gathering up the few things she needed and making sure she was completely in uniform. She didn't need a reason for Snape to put her in another of these types of detention.

“Have a good day,” another roommate piped up doubtfully, and Ginny shrugged her shoulders at them noncommittally as she walked out the door to go face the day down in the Dungeons.

Hermione Granger was standing at the bottom of the stairwell, waiting impatiently for two boys to show their faces. Harry and she were going to be late for detention, she just knew it. She wasn't even supposed to get detention…seriously. She was the intelligent one of the Trio, not the one who was always in trouble. And how was it that Ron had escaped punishment and got to go into Hogsmeade today, when they had to spend their Saturday with Snape down in the Dungeons absolutely miserable?

“Well, can you at least use the time to study?” a tentative voice said behind her. When she turned around to face the owner, she saw the voice belonged to Parvati Patil, whom Hermione shared a dorm room with.

“No,” Hermione groaned in response, “we're not supposed to study, all we can do is just sit there and do nothing.”

“Well, maybe you can find a way to be able to,” Parvati said, pursing her lips in the attempt to be supportive. She suddenly scurried off as if she had been burned and, looking up to the top of the staircase, Hermione saw that Harry Potter and Ron Weasley, her two best friends, had finally decided to get out of bed and meet her in the common room.

“Well, let's go,” Harry commented darkly the second he reached her.

“I can't believe you two are missing Hogsmeade,” Ron grumbled, looking almost as put out as Harry about the detention.

“I can't believe you aren't going to detention,” Hermione snapped irritably. Ron glared at her and stuffed his hands deep into his pockets, looking guilty. “You're just as responsible as we are.”

“Well, next time, don't get caught and you'd be coming to Hogsmeade with me!” Ron fumed at the accusation and glared at Hermione. He stalked off angrily towards the portrait, leaving Harry and Hermione standing together alone.

“Let's just go, okay?” Harry mumbled, looking angry himself. Hermione nodded distractedly and followed him out the door.

Draco Malfoy slammed his drawer shut angrily, glaring around the room in disgust at his luck. How the hell had he gotten detention again? Why had the professors decided that he was bad news all of sudden?

He curled his lip maliciously and jerked his tie on in a sloppy fashion, starting out towards the door. Storming through, he sneered at all of the excited younger years who were going to Hogsmeade for the first time and pushed them out of his way. He was going to be late, but he couldn't find it in himself to care much.

He surpassed his lackeys, who were preparing to leave for Hogsmeade anyway, and was almost out of the common room when he heard his name being called. He turned, exasperated, to see Pansy Parkinson pouting at him.

“Draco, where are you going?” she whined, and took in his uniform as if he were crazy for wearing it on a Saturday.

“None of your business,” Malfoy replied snarkily. “And even if it was, you can't come with me so don't ask.”

With that, he turned on his heel and exited the room, leisurely making his way to the Dungeon where the detention was to be held that day.

Unlike the other common rooms, the Ravenclaw equivalent was generally calm. Most of its occupants sat reading a few more pages of their books before setting off for Hogsmeade or the library. There was minimal chatter, and an occasional sigh as someone would look at the time.

Luna Lovegood was perched precariously on a window seat, with her dirty blonde hair scraggily clinging to her shoulders, as she fiddled with a strange looking necklace she was wearing. Alone, she looked distractedly around the room occasionally as if in a dreamlike mood.

After some time, she rose to her feet and floated out the common room airily as she was going nowhere in particular.

No one looked up at her departure, they all just continued to read their books or wait for time to pass more quickly in silence.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Once they arrived in the drearily cold Dungeon, Hermione set her books slowly at the table. Observing the empty Dungeon questionably, she turned to ask Harry who else had detention, but saw him talking already with Ginny Weasley who had just entered and looked pissed at the prospect of sitting in this classroom all day. She had really changed in the past year, so much so that Hermione didn't even really like to speak with the girl anymore. Harry still chatted with her, almost through obligation, as they had dated for a little while during last year.

Ginny had grown into more of a social butterfly than anything else. She had always had more boys around her than she needed, but Hermione was of the opinion that now Ginny didn't even try to control what happened with those boys.

Just the moment when Hermione was going to call Harry back over to her, Draco Malfoy came sauntering into the classroom and looking around the room; he glared at Hermione and started for her.

“You're in my seat,” he said pointedly and pushed her stuff off of the desk with a smirk. “Move.”

Hermione, completely affronted, grabbed her books up quickly from the ground and glared at Malfoy with a loss for words. “How dare you---“she started, but suddenly stopped, staring at the doorway beyond where Ginny and Harry were still conversing. Luna Lovegood was standing there, looking for all the world as if she had just been beamed down from Mars even though she was in a prim uniform. Her hair was crumpled and her eyes were unfocused as she drifted into the room. Hermione was so startled at her indifference she forgot her indignation at Malfoy.

Distantly, she heard Ginny give an over exaggerated cough at Luna's appearance, and Hermione sent her a confused glance. Just the year before, Ginny and Luna had been great friends. She turned away and looked back at the seat she had been about to take to find Malfoy sprawled casually in it. He gave her another smirk and waved his hand distractedly at her.

She huffed and headed for another row of seats, not wanting to argue with him any longer. Harry took a seat near her, and Ginny slid in somewhere else, just as a livid looking Professor Snape flew into the room with his black robes billowing behind him. He looked around the room impatiently and then pulled out a stack of parchment.

“Well…well,” he snarled as he began talking, “I see we all made it here on time.”

Ginny raised her hand suddenly and everyone in the classroom turned to look at her.

“Professor…” she started. “I don't think I belong in here. I know it's detention but—”

Completely ignoring her, Snape continued, “It is now seven oh six, and you have exactly eight hours and fifty four minutes to think about why you're here. To ponder the errors of your ways…” He cast a critical look towards Harry and then continued. “You will not speak, you will not move, you will not sleep. You will write me a 2 foot essay of no less than a thousand words describing in gruesome detail exactly who you think you are.” He slammed down the parchment on the front desk and looked back to the class.

“And when I say essay, I mean an essay. Not chicken scratch and a few misplaced words, is that clear, Mr. Malfoy?” he snapped at the completely indifferent boy who was leaning back in his chair, looking as if he were asleep already.

He snapped to attention and sneered at the professor, “Crystal.”

“Good. We wouldn't want to see you here again in that same position next week,” Snape jeered at his ex- favorite pupil. The relations between the two had completely gone downhill that year, after Malfoy had rebelled from his family, and now the two were almost entirely hostile to each other.

“My office,” Snape continued, “is just beyond that door, so any fooling around is ill-advised…any questions?”

“Yeah…actually I have a question,” Malfoy said as he leaned forward in his chair, looking interested. Snape gave him a suspicious sideways glare but allowed him to continue. “Does Dracula know you raid his wardrobe?”

Snape turned white with anger and snapped, “I guess you'll have to ask that again next Saturday, Mr. Malfoy.” With a satisfied smirk, he stormed out of the classroom leaving the five students alone.

“That man is an ass,” Malfoy mumbled to himself. Everyone in the room ignored him and gave a collective sigh. There was a shuffling heard as Hermione rose to fetch a piece of parchment that Snape had placed on his desk and everyone else tried to get comfortable. Hermione turned away from the desk after retrieving a piece to see Luna fiddling noisily with rusted bottle caps that hung on her necklace.

Everyone else turned to look at Luna and Malfoy commented nastily, “Maybe if you keep playing with those bottle caps you'll find a friend in them or something.” Luna stopped and looked away, biting her lip.

Everyone went back to what they were doing, until a few minutes later Malfoy crumpled a piece of parchment and aimed it at Ginny's head. He threw it but it missed liberally and Ginny sent a desperate look in Harry's direction, but didn't say anything.

Seeing he wasn't getting any attention that way, Malfoy began to hum loudly the tune of one of the Weird Sister's latest songs. Ginny exhaled in frustration and muttered just as loudly, “I can't believe this is really happening to me…”

Malfoy stopped humming suddenly and looked around, “What the hell are we supposed to do if we have to go take a leak or something?”

“Oh please,” Ginny said incredulously.

“Hey, if you gotta go…” he said, his mouth curling into a smirk. He was only doing this to get a rise out of her. Everyone looked at him in disgust and Hermione rolled her eyes at his exclamations.

“Shut up, Malfoy,” Harry snapped, putting an end to the episode. Ginny sent a thankful glance towards him and set her jaw in a defiant look to glare at Malfoy with.

Malfoy's eyes narrowed maliciously and he looked from Ginny to Harry quickly. “Hey Potter, why don't you close that door over there and we'll give you a chance to nail your ex-girlfriend over here…” He suggested slyly, his tone dripping in spite.

“Hey!” Harry yelled and jumped up from his chair, barely restraining himself from throttling Malfoy. His hands balled up by his sides and he shot a powerful glare in his rivals' direction.

“What don't like the idea? Scared of girls or something, Potter?” Malfoy sneered again, and shot a falsely questioning look at Harry.

“If I lose my temper with you Malfoy, don't expect to walk out of this room,” Harry said tersely, his green eyes flashing with barely controlled anger.

“Why don't you two just shut up? Nobody wants to hear it,” Hermione broke in and pulled Harry into his seat.

Malfoy barely gave her a glance before continuing in his pursuit of Harry's anger. “So, Golden Boy, what'd you do to get in here? Forget to suck up to McGonagall?”

“Why don't you just write your paper and shut up?” Hermione interrupted again before Harry could reply. She gestured angrily towards the sheaf of parchment on Snape's desk and then turned back to her own work.

“Just because you don't have Snape's protection from detention anymore doesn't give you the right to be a pain in the ass…so knock it off, Malfoy!” Harry exclaimed loudly.

Malfoy smirks at him and turns around in his chair away from Harry.

“No rules against it…” he commented offhandedly.

“He's just doing it to get a rise out of you. Just ignore him,” Ginny said suddenly, giving Harry a sidelong look.

“You couldn't ignore me if you tried,” Malfoy taunted. He turned back to them just as Ginny rolled her eyes at him and he started mockingly, “So, are you two like secretly going out again?” He eyes flickered with scorn as they darted back in between the two. Hermione flinched a little at the question but couldn't help looking between Ginny and Harry for their reactions anyways.

They both looked anywhere but the other after the question was asked so Malfoy prodded, “You know, steady dates?”

Again, no answer. Ginny bit her lip in obvious anger but was still silent.

“Lo-vers?” Malfoy continued, with an ever-widening smirk.

“Come on, Golden Boy, be honest, are you screwing the Weasel's sister?” he finally asked, with a satisfied look on his face.

“Go to hell!” Ginny screamed, her nails digging into the wooden table and her cheeks flushed. Luna, across the room, started at the yell and stared at her. Hermione was taken aback and looked at Ginny in surprise, not having seen her lose her temper in a long time.

“That's enough, Malfoy,” Harry added furiously.

Suddenly, there were footsteps from Snape's office, and they all heard his voice in a dangerously soft tone.

“What is going on in there?”

And that is where I shall leave you off for now. ;-) Do you like the idea? Yes? No? Maybe so?

Review. It makes everyone happy. ;-)
