Prologue

Darkness fell upon the graveyard, and nothing could be seen except for a bright light coming out of a wand. The graveyard was deserted except for four people standing around a gigantic cauldron. Two were men of the names Peter Pettigew, known as Wormtail, and Severus Snape. They were crouched slightly, as if not sure if they were supposed to bow or stand up straight. One was a woman, Bellatrix Lestrange, who also was hunched over. Her eyes were fixed only on the only person standing.

This person wasn't even considered a man. After all, he didn't even have an entire soul. His eyes were slit-like, and his face was twisted. He led a twisted, half-life of evil and wrongdoing. There is no evil and good, he'd say, there is only power. Oh and yes, this man had power. His powers made others flinch when they heard his name and run in fear when they saw him. His name was Tom Marvolo Riddle, but he was better known as Voldemort.

"Do you think this will really defeat Harry Potter?" Bellatrix Lestrange asked, eyes wide with loyalty and admiration.

Voldemort gave her a twisted smile. He added something else to the cauldron and nodded slowly. "Yes, Bellatrix, I believe this is the end of the Boy Who Lived."

He said the last part as if he was mocking Harry Potter. His voice was filled with hatred and disgust. Wormtail whimpered slightly, and Voldemort shifted his glance towards him. Wormtail immediately stopped, and Voldemort looked back at the cauldron.

"You have done well, Severus," Voldemort hissed to Snape, "I had a feeling Lucius' son wouldn't be able to carry out the deed. Although you have lost your spot in Hogwarts, Dumbledore is defeated. Nobody stands in my way."

Snape bowed. "Thank you, my Lord."

The cauldron hissed slightly, and Voldemort gave another twisted smirk. "The girl will have to work fast, though. She only has two weeks. Any minute, now."

Just as the words had left Voldemort's mouth, a girl emerged from the cauldron. Voldemort handed her a robe, and she obediently put it on. She had long black hair and cold blue eyes. Her eyes were focused on Voldemort.

Voldemort told her just two words. "Harry Potter."

Hermione Granger sipped up the last few drops of her Pumpkin Juice as the beginning of term feast came to an end. On her right was a pale, skinny teenager with messy black hair and a lightning bolt shaped scar on his forehead named Harry Potter. He was dazing off, looking towards the Slytherin table.

Hermione scoffed, and turned to her left. A tall redhead with robes much to short for him, Ron Weasley, was also gawking at the Slytherin table. His jaw was hanging open slightly, and he looked transfixed.

"Harry, Ron," Hermione muttered, "Professor McGonagall is about to give her first speech as Headmistress. Pay attention."

Both Harry and Ron seemed to have not heard Hermione. They were still staring at a girl at the Slytherin table who seemed to have caught the eyes of every boy in the Great Hall.

"Oh, honestly. She isn't even that pretty!" Hermione glowered, slightly annoyed that Harry and Ron weren't even listening to her.

"Who is she?" Harry asked, swallowing hard.

"New girl, I reckon," Ron answered, not taking his eyes off the Slytherin table. "I can't believe Malfoy's luck. Every Slytherin girl already has their eye on him, but now he's also got that beauty on the side of him."

Hermione turned her head to get a better look at the girl. She had long black hair, and a sort of mysterious look. Draco was talking to the girl hopefully, but she only seemed half interested. Instead, she was looking around, making eye contact with the guys that were staring at her. It looked as if she was searching for something.

Professor McGonagall sat back down, and dismissed everyone from the Great Hall. Horror-struck, Hermione realized she hadn't listened to a word of the speech. Had she missed something important?

Just as Harry and Ron had realized the feast was over, and were about to stand up, Draco Malfoy headed over towards them with the girl at his side. Hermione hid a scowl. She didn't want Draco to think she was jealous of the girl, or he'd never stop mocking her.

"Weasel. Potter. I don't believe you've met this attractive girl, have you?" Malfoy asked, a smug look on his face. The girl had her arm around Draco's neck. However, the second she heard the word "Potter," she lost interest in Malfoy.

"Harry Potter, is it?" she asked interestedly. She gave Harry a smile that made his insides want to do backflips. "I'm Autumn Night." She offered him her hand, and he gladly shook it. Cold shivers flew up his spine as he did so.

Ron coughed loudly, and Harry realized he hadn't introduced him to them. "And this is my very good friend, Ron Weasley."

Ron tried to say something, but was feeling very tongue-tied. It didn't matter, since Autumn didn't seem to notice. She was only interested in Harry.

"You must have been brave," Autumn sighed, "Standing up to the Dark Lord like that."

"Well yeah," Harry shrugged, feeling pleased with himself, "It was hard, but I managed it, didn't I?"

"But you must be strong and very good with spells," Autumn added softly, ignoring Hermione's scoff.

Draco cut in before Harry could answer. "I think it's time we head to the Common Room, don't you think, Autumn? We don't want to keep Potter waiting long."

Autumn nodded, looking as if she wasn't quite ready to leave. "Alright… I suppose we should get going. I'll be seeing you tomorrow then, right Harry?"

"Yeah, I suppose I'll be seeing you around."

Autumn kissed Harry's cheek softly before being dragged off by Draco.

Harry smiled dreamily. Not only was she attractive, but seeing Draco squirm like that had definitely brought Harry satisfaction. Autumn wasn't interested in Malfoy, but him, Harry Potter. After all, who wouldn't be interested in him… he was "The Chosen One."

Harry turned to Ron, who was still looking wistful. Then, a few seconds later, Ron too came out of the trance.

"Wow Harry, imagine if one of us got to go out with her… that'd be amazing. She's like a goddess.”

Harry smiled at the idea. Beside him, Hermione cleared her throat. Harry turned to his side and stared at a very worried Hermione.

"Harry," Hermione said quickly, sounding worried, "I don't think you should be fraternizing with that girl. She's in Slytherin, you know, and she could possibly be followers of V-Voldemort."

"Oh, for Heaven's sake, Ron," Hermione quickly added in, looking exasperated as Ron squirmed from hearing Voldemort's name.

Harry listened to Hermione's words. No, she couldn't possibly be right. She was gorgeous and interested in him because he was brave and strong. Autumn didn't like him because she was serving Voldemort. But she had used the term "Dark Lord," and usually only Death Eaters said that…

Harry shook his head. She was an ordinary girl in Slytherin that seemed to be much prettier than the rest of the girls.

"Just…promise me that you won't go out of your way to talk to Autumn," Hermione told Harry, looking concerned.

Harry forced a smile. "Hermione, don't worry! She's in Slytherin. Honestly, I don't want to have anything to do with Slytherins."

Harry grimaced as he stared at the spot Autumn had been sitting at. If only he believed his own words.
