Time and Time Again

1. Chapter 1: Kings Cross and Beyond

A/N: Hello all I have always wanted to write a time travel fic, so here is my attempt at it, I suppose you'd consider this a little AU because I'm going to hook Harry up with some powers he didn't have before. I hope you enjoy and please, like every other author says around here, review when you're done reading!!

FYI: I'm not J.K. Rowling because a) I'm a dude, b) I'm not from England, and c) I haven't made a lot of money by writing Harry Potter!! Any quotes I use from the book are only to help in my story; all characters, canon, etc are property of Rowling.

Chapter 1: Kings Cross and Beyond

He saw the mouth move and a flash of green light, and everything was gone.

Harry lay facedown listening to the silence. He was perfectly alone. No one was watching. Nobody else was there. He was not perfectly sure that he was there himself.

A long time later, or maybe no time at all, it came to him that he must exist, must be more than disembodied thought, because he was lying, definitely lying, on some surface. Therefore he had sense of touch, and the thing against which he lay existed too.

Almost as soon as he had reached this conclusion, Harry realized that he was naked. Convinced as he was of his total solitude, this did not concern him, but it did intrigue him slightly. He wondered whether, as he could feel, he would be able to see. In opening them, he discovered that he had eyes.

He lay in a bright mist, though it was not like mist he had ever experienced before. His surroundings were not hidden by cloudy vapor; rather the cloudy vapor had not yet formed into surroundings. The floor which he lay seemed to be white, neither warm nor cold, but simply there, a flat, blank something on which to be.

He sat up. His body appeared unscathed. He touched his face. He was not wearing glasses anymore. Then a noise reached him through the unformed nothingness that surrounded him: the small soft thumpings of something that flapped, flailed, and struggled. It was a pitiful noise, yet also slightly indecent. He had the uncomfortable feeling that he was eavesdropping on something furtive, shameful.

For the first time he wished he was clothed. Barely had the wish formed in his head than robes appeared a short distance away. He took them and pulled them on; they were soft, clean, and warm. It was extraordinary how they had appeared, just like that, the moment he had wanted them….

He stood up, looking around. Was he in some great Room of Requirement? The longer he looked, the more there was to see. A great domed glass roof glittered high above him in sunlight. Perhaps it was a palace. All was hushed and still, except for those odd thumping and whimpering noises coming from somewhere close by in the mist….

Harry turned slowly on the spot, and his surroundings seemed to invent themselves before his eyes. A wide-open space, bright and clean, a hall larger by far than the Great Hall, with that clear, domed glass ceiling. It was quite empty. He was the only person there except for-

He recoiled. He had spotted the thing that was making the noises. It had the form of a small, naked child, curled on the ground, its skin raw and rough, flayed looking, and it lay shuddering under a seat where it had been left, unwanted, stuffed out of sight, struggling for breath.

He was afraid of it. Small and fragile and wounded though it was, he did not want to approach it.

“You cannot help.”

He spun around. Albus Dumbledore was walking toward him, sprightly and upright, wearing sweeping robes of midnight blue.

“Professor!” Harry hollered jovially, turning his attention away from the creature on the ground, and sprinting towards Dumbledore, enveloping him in a Weasley-like hug.

“Oh my dear boy, it is wonderful to see you again,” Dumbledore said stepping back from him and taking a seat on a nearby bench.

“Professor?” Harry said sitting down next to him to face the whining creature, “Am I dead? Where are we and what is that….thing?”

“One question at a time Harry,” Dumbledore said his eyes twinkling in their usual fashion, “I believe the best way to answer you're first question is say you are neither dead nor alive, take a look around, you are on Platform Nine and Three Quarters, think of it as waiting on the Express.”

“So, I'm not dead?” Harry asked feeling as though the mist which once surrounded them was now wallowing in his head.

“No, right now your physical body is dead, but you're soul, well, you're soul is still here.” Dumbledore smiled, making Harry feel as though he knew more than he was telling, “There are some secrets of the dead that I am not permitted to discuss with you, now as to our little guest over there, I would think that is what remains of the last horcrux.”

“I see, since Voldemort's soul is attached to mine it followed me when he cast the Killing Curse,” Harry said comprehension coming across his face.

“I see that in my absence your education has not ceased,” Dumbledore said.

“Well I wouldn't know too much about that Professor, my last year was spent on the run with Hermione and Ron hunting down the horcruxes, as for Hogwarts, Snape took your place and hired on a ton of Death Eaters.” Harry said a sad look on his face thinking about his two best friends that he left behind.

“Well I spoke with Severus just before you came, and as I understand it he passed along a certain bit of memories to you, which should clear your head,” Dumbledore said his mouth turning to a slight grin, “and hopefully made you understand why I trust him.”

“Still doesn't mean that I have to like him,” Harry said a bit irritated because he knew Dumbledore was right.

“No, Harry, it doesn't but forgive an old man for acting like a teenager and wanting to gloat of his triumphs,” Dumbledore laughed, and clasped Harry on the shoulder.

After a few moments of silence broken only by the screams coming from the nearby bench Harry spoke up, “So now what?”

“Now, Harry you have some choices to make,” Dumbledore said his joyful grin was now a bleak frown, “you see Harry you, unlike many others get two options, you can join me on the Express which should be coming along here in a few minutes,” he paused.

“Or?” Harry asked for the first time surprise and expectation in his tone.

“Or you can go back,” Dumbledore said not elaborating.

Harry stopped to think for a few moments before speaking again, “So, what's it like on the other side?”

“Alas Harry like I said before, secrets of the dead, I cannot speak of what I will return to, but I must say, if you need to ask me, perhaps it is time for you to repeat your second year, and miss the train.”

Harry took a few moments to contemplate his options. On one hand he would be able to finally see his parents, and get to know them, not to mention see Sirius, whom he had missed dearly for the past two years. But Harry thought Hermione and Ron needed him, the world needed him, and not to sound arrogant he was the only one who could defeat the most hated and feared dark wizard the world had ever seen.

“I think so Professor, I would like to go home,” Harry said standing from his seat.

“One moment Harry, before you go back there are a few things to explain to you, first and foremost, you should know that the piece of Voldemort's soul will not return with you, and that means there is one less horcrux to eliminate.” Dumbledore said standing from his seat and walking with Harry towards the solid wall that would return him to the world.

“Right, anything else Professor?” Harry asked anxious to return, finally defeat Voldemort, and get on with a bright and peaceful life.

“Yes Harry there is, and for this I must apologize, you see the world of death and resurrection is a most curious place indeed, you see Harry I cannot send you back to where you died, I must send you back further, I am sorry Harry but perhaps you can change some things in the past that may end life for the better,” and with that Dumbledore placed his hand on Harry's back and pushed him through the barrier.

Harry felt an intense heat and saw nothing but a bright white light as Dumbledore pushed him. The feeling of floating through time and space was extraordinary, the closest he could compare it to would be the feeling of falling from a broomstick, only now he knew he was in no danger, it was as though a surreal peacefulness had come over him.

As Harry admired the complexity of what was happening the light around him began to dim, and as question after question ran through his head he suddenly was enveloped in darkness and he faded off into unconsciousness.

BANG BANG BANG. Three loud thumps echoed around him stirring him from his sound slumber.

“Ron, keep it down mate I'm trying to sleep,” Harry Potter mumbled barely waking him.

BANG BANG BANG.

“Seriously Ron, I'm going to hex you into oblivion,” Harry said sitting straight up in bed. Before he could rise more than halfway off the mattress he slammed his head into a solid wooden beam causing a few spiders to fall from the ceiling.

“BOY! Get up its nearly six, I will not have you lying about all day like your deadbeat parents, get up now and get into the kitchen!” Came a somewhat muffled, hoarse yell from somewhere nearby.

Thoughts began whirring through Harry's head. The last thing he could remember was being at the train station with Dumbledore, preparing to return to life, but he remembered Dumbledore saying he couldn't return to the exact moment he had `crossed over.'

Harry began formulating plans in his head trying to figure out how to proceed, it appeared that Dumbledore, in all his earthly knowledge seemed to have put Harry back about six years back in time.

“FREAK! Why aren't you in the kitchen!” Came Uncle Vernon's pompous voice.

Harry got up and decided that since he couldn't come up with a plan in the next ten seconds he would actually need to listen to his horrid uncle.

As Harry opened the cupboard door he had flashbacks to a past that he was now reliving, from the berating to the all around horrible treatment of his family.

“Coming Uncle Vernon,” Harry said in a voice that sounded much to squeaky for the man he knew he was, or at least should be.

As Harry made his way into the kitchen he saw his pudgy uncle and skinny aunt sitting at the table looking expectantly at their empty plates.

“Get to work boy, I need to get to Grunnings and I want my bacon, sausage, eggs, and toast in the next five minutes or it's the cane for you,” Vernon Dursley said not looking up from his morning paper.

Harry strode swiftly across the kitchen not bothering to speak to his aunt or uncle, and setting straight to work. He soon realized just how small he was, while the large baggy hand-me-downs he was wearing exasperated his small stature, the fact that he had to stand on a stool to reach the toaster from the top cabinet reminded him he was no longer seventeen but ten.

Deciding it was about time to out into action the beginnings of his somewhat thought out plan. Harry decided the first step was to see if his magic was as powerful as it was before waking up in the past. Unbeknownst to the two Dursleys sitting at the table Harry place his hand in front of him and muttered under his breath, “Accio fork.”

At once the fork on the counter slid across the counter and landed directly in his hand. Excellent, so I can still do wandless magic.

Harry decided the next best course of action would be to go about his morning as normal, and later in the day when the Dursleys were otherwise occupied exit the house and go from there.

“Come on boy, I haven't got all day,” the chubby man at the table said.

“I'm done now Uncle Vernon, here's your breakfast,” Harry said setting to plates down in front of his relatives.

“Good,” Petunia spoke for the first time, “make sure you make more for Dudders, and place it in the fridge, you can microwave it for him when he wakes up.”

Good luck with that, I finished being you servant a long time ago, and I won't be one after today Harry thought to himself before saying, “Yes ma'am.”

Before going back to the stove Harry had an idea to find out just how far back he was sent. After he had prepared more breakfast for Dudley and his Uncle had gone Harry went to refill his Aunt's coffee mug, and turning his head just slightly saw the date on the paper. July 20, 1991. A week and a half until his eleventh birthday and a little over a month until the start of term.

“EEK! Damn it Boy!” Petunia squealed as the coffee Harry had been filling overflowed onto her hand, “GET OUT! GET OUT AND BACK TO YOUR CUPBOARD!”

After being banished back to his cupboard with only a scrap of bacon and a bit of burnt toast he decided to try to spend a bit more time on a plan to escape and what to do.

Well, first off a little `alohamora' on the door would take care of the whole lock issue. I suppose after I get out of the house I could take the Knight Bus, but I don't have any money, wizard or muggle. Perhaps hitchhiking? I could always apparate, I know that the Ministry wouldn't care about magic happening here, they'd just chalk it up to accidental magic, but apparating, I dunno. I guess with a little summoning charm I could knick a few bucks from Aunt Petunia, afterall they owe me plenty for all the work I do around here. All right, that's settled; take a few pounds and then the Knight Bus.

But to where? I need to get to get to Gringotts to get some galleons out of my vault, but where can I stay? The Leaky Cauldron? No, too many people would see me, and then all the questions would start. I think maybe staying in the muggle world for the time being would be the best idea. A hotel, would be a good place, and staying for a month shouldn't be too bad.

Now what to do about…well life? I suppose I could go after the horcruxes, atleast those I can get my hands on. The diary's out of the question, as is Naginia who still isn't a horcrux, but I could take out the ring, Hufflepuff's cup, the locket, and once I get to Hogwarts Ravenclaw's diadem. And I think that I'm already take care of. I suppose that since I don't have the basilisk tooth yet nor the Sword of Gryffindor I'll need to use Fiendfyre.

As for everything else I suppose I get a rare chance at a do over.

Figuring he had a long day ahead of him, he decided perhaps it was a good time to take a little nap. Laying back on his cot he fell into an easy sleep thinking about the possibilities of what this new life could hold for him.

All too quickly he was woken by the piercing voice of his Aunt, “Enough lying around, get out here and warm up Dudders lunch, quickly him and I are going to the mall and by the time we're back I want the lawn mowed and the hedges trimmed.”

Yeah right like that'll happen. As Harry made his way out of the cupboard he decided that since this would be the last time he saw his horrible guardians he might as well make it worth his while.

Entering the kitchen Harry saw his fat lump of a cousin sitting at the table looking at the Comics Section of the paper his equally obese father had been reading earlier. Pulling the leftover breakfast from the refrigerator he quickly heated it and place it on the table in front of Dudley.

“Get him a class of milk too while you're at it,” Petunia said glaring at Harry, before diverting her attention back to Dudley, “wouldn't want my little Duddeykins to go hungry.”

I think he could go days without food and still not be hungry. Harry thought while pouring the glass of milk. As he walked towards the table he had a quick thought of where the milk should go. Offering up an incredibly convincing slip Harry spilled the contents of the glass directly onto Dudley's head.

As the milk poured down his face Petunia's face was that of fury, but instead of yelling she whispered, rather frighteningly, “Get out of this kitchen now, get into your cupboard, you'll be luckly if you see the light of day for the next week.”

While Harry was getting Petunia some paper towels he quietly summoned a few pound notes out of her purse which was sitting on the other side of the kitchen. She was so engrossed in her poor `Dudders' that she didn't notice the money zoom across the room.

Walking out of the kitchen and into the hallway Harry couldn't help but smile as the words of Petunia rung in his ear, If only she knew what I'm planning. A few seconds after Harry closed the small door he heard at least three different locks being bolted on the other side. For the next few minutes Harry kept quiet, listening, and waiting for the sound of the two going outside.

After ten minutes Harry heard what sounded like the front door opening, and then the sound of the car in the driveway starting up. At that moment Harry decided it was time to go.

Raising his hand he said, “Alohamora,” and heard the sound of the bolts unlocking. Stepping out from the cupboard he made sure to pick up the few possessions he had, and headed into the kitchen. Grabbing a sandwich from the fridge along with a bottle of water Harry ate the sandwich quickly, and then made his way out the front door.

Before stepping outside he decided in order to avoid any suspicious looks he would place a few simple charms on himself. As he the incantations he felt his hair begin to lengthen, to hide his scar, then change from black to red. Feeling quite unrecognizable he opened the front door and walked out into daylight free for the first time, at least in this time period.

Walking swiftly to the sidewalk, in order to avoid the eyes of any nosey neighbors. Once he was there he put his arm out and at once a purple double-decker bus appeared out of nowhere and stopped right in front of him.

A pretty middle-aged woman stepped out from the bus and began the speech Harry recognized only too well, “Welcome to the Knight Bus, transportation for the stranded witch or wizard. I am Diana Ridgeland and I will be your conductor for this evening.”

Dropping her professional demeanor she looked down at Harry and said, “Well aren't you a bit young to be here on your own?”

“No ma'am, my mum said that I could go to Diagon Alley today, but I only have muggle money, is that ok?” Harry said trying to play the part of the ten year old he appeared to be.

“Well hop on then, there's only a few stops between here and the Leaky Cauldron, so it'll be a short trip,” Diana said offering her hand to Harry and helping him aboard.

After Harry paid her ten pounds he took a seat near the middle of the bus, and sat down hoping beyond hope that Ernie, the old driver, was a little bit more gifted behind the wheel than the last time he rode the bus.

Sadly his hopes were not to be confirmed, when all at once the bus took off with a loud BANG and began weaving in and out of traffic, squeezing between cars, and coming within seconds of colliding with dozens of objects that would ordinarily destroy a muggle bus.

“So young man, you paid with muggle money, are you a muggle-born?” Diana asked sitting down beside him.

“No, my mums muggle-born, she just had a couple pounds on her,” Harry said making up his story as he went.

“Oh I see, so what are your big plans for today, meeting a couple of your young friends, maybe going to Quality Quidditch Supplies, I heard they got a brand new model broom in the other day,” she said trying to make small talk.

Harry, pretending to take this news as an exciting bit of information began talking animatedly about the Nimbus 2000. Their conversation lasted for only a short time and before Harry knew it the Knight Bus had pulled up to the dingy little building that Harry knew was the street entrance to Diagon Alley.

“Well enjoy yourself, and remember to stay out of trouble, have fun,” Diana said waving as he stepped off the Knight Bus and in a moment the bus was out of sight.

Harry strode forward through the hustle and bustle of the crowd on the sidewalk, and reached for the handle of the Leaky Cauldron. As he entered the pub he noticed that unlike his first time here with Hagrid the noise didn't come to a complete stop, nor did anyone turn in their seats craning their heads to get a glimpse at The Boy Who Lived.

Quietly Harry strode along the sidewall and towards the door to the small back courtyard. Realizing for the first time that since he didn't have a wand he wouldn't be able to open the archway. Maybe if I just tap it with my hand. But before he could reach out his hand a small family came along behind him in a hurry. The older man quickly pulled out his wand tapped the bricks and stood back as the apparently solid wall began transforming into the archway to Diagon Alley. As the family walked through Harry followed quickly behind them.

The sight that greeted Harry was one that was incredibly welcoming, no longer were people running back and forth in fear of Voldemort, but instead groups of happily chatting witches and wizards were scattered throughout the street. Children were yelling for their parents to buy everything from the newest trick or treat from Zonkos to pets of all shapes and sizes.

In the distance Harry saw the towering, gleaming white marble building that was the wizarding bank, Gringotts. Harry wound his way through the crowds, and along the way spotted a few familiar faces including Seamus Finnegan and Cho Chang. He found it humorous to see them, mostly because they looked so young and small.

After what seemed like ages he finally made his way through the crowd and got to the large front doors of Gringotts. Once he pulled the door open he realized the last time he was here he flew a dragon out through the roof, chuckling quietly to himself Harry walked to the counter and approached the goblin.

“Hello, I would like to speak to someone about my account, in private,” Harry said standing on his tiptoes to look over the counter.

“Name please,” the goblin said not looking up from his calculations.

“I would rather discuss once I am alone,” Harry said not quite will to give his identity in the middle of a crowded bank.

“Very well if you would please follow me, I will show you to a room, and a representative will be with you shortly,” the goblin said coming out from behind the counter and walking across the hall to a set of offices along the back wall.

Once Harry was inside the room he took the glamour charms off of himself in order to show his true identity to the goblin taking care of his account. After a few moments a goblin came into the office and rather gruffly sat down in front of him.

“Good afternoon my name is Herlyn, I'll be taking care of you today, and may I see your key or have your name in order to gain access to your account,” the goblin, Herlyn said.

“My name is Harry Potter, and I apologize Mr. Herlyn but I don't have my key with me, is there another way for me to get money from my vault?” Harry said not sure about how to proceed.

“Of course Mr. Potter, I will just need to prick your finger and place a small amount of your blood on this piece of parchment,” Herlyn said.

Harry placed his hand on the goblins hand and turned his head when the creature took a small amount of blood from him.

“Excellent Mr. Potter, everything appears to be in order, if you would like Mr. Potter we could fetch the necessary amount of money from your account if you would like rather than ride down.”

“Yes, I'd prefer that,” Harry said thinking he'd rather not endure the terrible and nauseas ride down into the vaults.

“Exactly how much would you like to take out of your account today Mr. Potter?” Herlyn said taking out a quill and a piece of parchment.

“I'd like to get both wizard and muggle money, so I think about 200 galleons and £500 should be enough for now,” Harry said trying to think if that would be enough to last him a month, if not he could always come back.

“Alright Mr. Potter, if you could please wait here for just a moment, and I will habe one of our bankers get your money,” Herlyn said standing from his seat and walking out the door.

After a few more minutes the goblin walked back into the room, handed Harry two small money bags, obviously magically enlarged on the inside, before saying, “Thank you Mr. Potter for your continued loyalty and business here at Gringotts, I will give you a few moments to replace your charms,” and with that he walked out of the room.

Harry smiled I suppose goblins do know everything that happens in their bank, suppose it will make it that much harder to destroy Hufflepuff's Cup.

After Harry put the charms back on himself he walked out of the office, and proceeded out of the bank. Thinking that he deserved a little treat he decided to head to Florean Fortescue. Harry grabbed a seat out on the patio in order to enjoy the nice sunny day. After placing an order for a large banana split, Harry saw something he had not expected, a large group of redheads coming his way. Instantly he recognized the entire Weasley family, from Ron to Percy, and including what was a much younger looking Arthur and Molly Weasley.

Seeing the group of Weasleys there Harry couldn't help but smile thinking about all the fun times he had with them, and became even more excited when he realized he would get to go through so many of those fun times again.

Harry sat at his seat for what must have been hours just thinking about his life from this point on, how different it would be going back to Hogwarts, meeting Ron and Hermione for the `first time', and going back through all the typical teenage angst that he had been a part of. And at that moment Harry decided to do things differently.

When the sun started to go down Harry realized it was time to go, and after placing a few galleons on the table he headed back towards the archway to the Leaky Cauldron.

Walking back through the bar Harry nearly tripped on the baggy clothes he was wearing. The first thing I'm doing tomorrow is getting some new clothes, robes and supplies can wait until I get my letter, but I'd like to look somewhat decent.

Once Harry was out onto the muggle street he quickly saw a fairly nice looking hotel only a few blocks down the street. Walking down the sidewalk and into the hotel he felt somewhat out of place amongst all the muggles. Harry quickly walked to the counter and said to the lady at the desk, “Hello there, I'd like to get a room for the next four days.”

The desk lady looked curiously at him, “Aren't you a bit young to be wanting a room here?”

“No, and I'm paying cash, it's been a long day and I would like to get some rest,” Harry said pulling six fifty pound notes out of his bag.

“Oh, alright then sir, you'll be in room 3165, the elevators are down the hall on the right hand side,” the lady said taking his money and handing him a key.

“Thank you,” Harry said taking the key and walking down the hall. After taking the elevator up to his floor he made his way to room 3165. Once Harry opened the door he instantly tossed his money bags on the desk and walked into the bathroom to begin running a nice warm bath, the first he'd had in a long time rather in this life or his last.

After he disrobed and sat down in the tub his tense muscles began to relax, Well I suppose it could be worse, Dumbledore could've sent me back and put me in the body of a ferret.
