-When Lightning Strikes-
-Fate Meeting-
A small girl with long flaming red hair and bright green eyes scooped a handful of wet sand, sifting it carefully through her fingers. The girl looked about nine or ten. It was raining hard, and lightning filled the sky. The ground shook with thunder. The sea was churning with large white-capped waves. Another clap of thunder, and the girl picked up a rock and tossed it into the churning sea. The world was brightly lit for a split second, and the girl caught a glimpse of her tiny bare feel. She squished them deep into the wet sand. Lily Evans loved thunderstorms.
She didn't understand who the other kids in her neighborhood were so terrified of them. Petunia was the worst of them all. Petunia was Lily's younger sister. During storms, Petunia would cower under the kitchen table, whimpering helplessly. Lily loved feeling the rain splash on her face. She found it very calming. She slowly pushed her limp, wet hair out of her face. Soon her parents would be worried and come looking for her.
Her parents just didn't understand. They were very protective of their daughters, and wanted them to have a perfect, wonderful life. They also didn't understand the little things in life that Lily like to do. Like stand outside during rainstorms, lie on the grass and stare up at the sky, and watch the stars at night. When they found her out in the rain, they would rush her inside, place her by the fire or heater, cover her in a large quilt, and hand her a mug of hot cocoa. They usually accompanied these tasks with scolds about pneumonia and hypothermia, but Lily could really care less about those silly illnesses. When they found her in the backyard, staring at the clouds, they would urge her to invite a friend over to play, or go to the park and find a friend there. It wasn't that she didn't have any friends, oh no. Lily was very popular at school, but she always felt out of place around her friends. School was a breeze to her. She found the work perfectly easy, and equally pointless. Often at night, she would stare up at the heavens, thinking. Thinking about endless things, which is not the typical activity of a ten-year-old girl. Most of the things Lily found enjoyable, were shunned by her peers. The things she found fascinating were also. She constantly felt that there was something or someone else out there for her. That she didn't belong in this material world.
Lightning flashed across the sky again, and this time, to Lily's utter surprise, she spotted a figure ahead of her. That couldn't possibly be mum, dad, or Petunia, the hotel is in the other direction. Curiosity overcame Lily and slowly but silently she crept towards the figure. Another flash of lightning and Lily caught a clearer glimpse of it. She was sure it was a boy, with dark messy hair and glasses. Thunder echoed throughout the dark night. He didn't appear to be very tall. Another flash of lightning and Lily realized he wasn't much older than her. She was now so close to him that another flash of light revealed the color of his eyes, hazel. The boy was staring out into the sea, hands stuffed in his pockets. He turned his head towards her. His eyes widened in surprise. He hastily pulled his hand out of his pocket and rubbed his glasses with the hem of his cloak. He was wearing a dark traveling cloak, and under closer inspection, Lily saw a broom lying at his feet. Lily felt her cheeks growing hot. The boy was quite cute. He grinned widely at her.
Lily reached her hand towards her face to attempt to wipe it clear of water and hair. When she looked up again, the boy and the broom were gone. She turned, frantically searching the beach around her for any sign of the boy. Lily, panicking now, shifted her gaze to the sea. It was too far away for him to have fallen in. For no particular reason at all, Lily found herself scanning the clouded sky. Another flash of lightning and Lily saw, far away, a figure that looked very much like the boy, riding a broom off into the distant sky. Lily blinked and the boy was gone again. Okay, now I'm just seeing things. She decided to go back to the hotel, before her parents began to worry.

James wasn't really thinking when he grabbed his broom and flew off into the storm. Storms didn't bother him in the least. In fact, they reminded him strongly of his mother when she was telling him off for some sort of outrageous prank or stunt he had pulled. He laughed to himself at this thought. He loved flying in storms, he found it exhilarating, like a continuous battle with the sky. He always welcomed a challenge. Not long after he had left the ground far behind him, he was soaked to the bone. It was very hard to see with water covering his glasses. Below him he could barely make out the sea thrashing madly. Whenever he became bored, which was quite often, he felt like there was a raging sea building up inside him. He had too much energy that was begging him to be let out. James lowered the broom into a dive, and landed on a quiet beach he didn't recognize. He laid his broom down and gazed off at the raging sea. At those frequent times when he was bored, he usually let his massive amount of energy out on something fun and amusing, such as setting a cat on fire, putting some strange potion in someone's food, or setting off fireworks in the house. His mother tried and tried to calm him over the years, but to no avail. He found it funny how the raging sea and a storm tied together, as did his mothers anger and his unlimited amount of energy.
His father was almost a complete opposite of his mother, as was James. James and his father both had the same dark messy hair, glasses, and hazel eyes. James found that his father seemed to have a raging sea inside him also, but not as large. Often they would let out their excess energy by playing quidditch, or racing on brooms. James's father had even walked in on James in the middle of a prank. His father would give him a look of knowing, turn around, and whistle while he just walked away.
James was suddenly conscious of a pair of eyes boring into the side of his head. He turned to find a small girl staring curiously at him. The air was lit with a flash of tremendous lightning and he saw that she had flaming red hair. James curiously continued to stare at her. The sky was lit with a crack of lightning again. She didn't look much younger than him. He quickly wiped his glasses with his sleeve to get a better look at her. Blinding light filled the sky yet again. She had sparkling green eyes. He blinked as if the girl might be only a shadow, but sure enough, when he reopened his eyes, the girl still stood there, her cheeks now growing the shade of her hair. He smiled at her. She was very pretty, even with her hair limp and wet hanging around her face. Her eyes were so bright, he stood staring at them, transfixed. The minutes ticked by, and they stood in silence, staring at each other. The girl reached to wipe her face with her hand and James seized the opportunity. This ought to be fun, James thought mischievously. He had perceived her as a muggle girl who was lost in a storm. Quick as the lightning in the sky, he mounted his broom and flew off into the night. He looked down to see the girl frantically searching the beach around her, most likely for him. James laughed, but it was drowned out by another loud clap of thunder. The girl had now looked into the sky and spotted him. He couldn't quite see the expression on her face, for now she was very far away, but he guess it was surprise. He waved heartily and urged his broom into a burst of speed. He flew home, grinning like mad the entire way.
