Nothing More Than A Stranger

1. Nothing More Than A Stranger

“Sometimes I feel you're not listening,
Sometimes I feel you don't understand,
But I think I've got the answer,
Already know what you're gonna say.”

You never pay attention to me. You make me feel so insignificant, like I'm not even there. You don't understand what it's like to be me and yet you believe that your problems are much more important than mine. You have no inkling of all the trepidation I face each day concerning you and life in general. I get shit from everyone because I love you. I put everything on the line for you. You push me away.

“ `Cause I'm just a little girl you see,
But there's a hell of a lot more to me,
Don't ever underestimate what I can do,
Don't ever tell me how I'm meant to be.”

You don't even know me, Draco. We've been dating for two months and you still have no idea who I am. Sure, you know the basics, but you don't really look deeper than that, now, do you? But you know, I'm just your girlfriend, someone not important enough for you. What I can't seem to comprehend is how you have the nerve to criticize me. How dare you judge what you don't know. You underestimate me a lot, sweetheart. I've probably gone through more bullshit than you have. I've gone through poverty, heartaches, pain unlike you've ever felt before and my entire first year. Merlin knows there's more than that.

“You say I'm just a little girl, just a little girl,
How can I compare? What do I know?
What have I got to share?
But there's nothing in this world, nothing in this world,

That could hold me down, can't you hear me?
Don't you understand,
That I wanna be myself, wanna be the girl,
Wanna be the one that you can rely on,
How I wish that you could see all there is of me,
How I long to hear that you take me,
For who I am.”

I'm nothing to you. I'm just the girl that is smitten with you. I'm just that retarded little girl who's head over heels for Draco fucking Malfoy, just like every other. Yet I'm the one who kisses you, the one who receives these beautiful gifts from you, the one who is most and truly in love with you. You think that I have nothing worth sharing. But you're wrong. I know much more than the normal person. I've gone through so much more. You don't even care, do you? You never talk to me. We never have decent conversations about anything besides the fucking weather. It's always raining and cloudy in Britain. It's always cold. I don't care. You talk about the important things to Pansy Parkinson. Your best friend since you were a baby. Your date for the Yule Ball. Your ex-girlfriend. But she doesn't seem like an ex. She seems more of your recent instead of me. I'm pushed to the background. You spend more time with her. You talk to her and confide in her. All you do is shagging with me. I don't even think that I'm the only girl you've been with while we've been together. You don't think I'm perceptive, do you? I always catch a whiff of some different fragrant perfume on you when you come over. I sometimes see lipstick marks on your shirts or pale skin. I sometimes hate you for it all.

“ `Cause I'm just a little girl you see,

But there's a hell of a lot more to me,
Don't ever underestimate what I can do,
Don't ever tell me how I'm meant to be.”

All I am to you is some ornament, but I'm not really that anyways. Merlin knows why we made this relationship official or why we came out to the public with it. I've questioned these things many times before, but I can never seem to grasp an answer. There was absolutely no reason for us to be together. Aside from the physical attraction, there was never anything else. You have no idea what I'm capable of, do you? I'm just there for show. Why do you make it so hard on me and make me question our relationship? You make me question if we even have a relationship. What really makes a relationship? There has to be communication, trust, companionship and love. You fail on all accounts. We don't talk so there's nothing you can trust me with. You're never around. You don't love me.

“ `Cause I'm just a little girl you see,
But there's a hell of a lot more to me,
Don't ever underestimate what I can do,
Don't ever tell me how I'm meant to be.

Sometimes I feel you're not listening,
Sometimes I feel you don't understand.

`Cause I'm just a little girl you see,
But there's a hell of a lot more to me,
Don't ever underestimate what I can do,
Don't ever tell me how I'm meant to be.

`Cause I'm just a little girl you see,
But there's a hell of a lot more to me,
Don't ever underestimate what I can do,
Don't ever tell me how I'm meant to be
.”

You don't care and it shows. Anyone with eyes can see it. You don't care about me. You don't love me. I'm not all that sure that you even like me. You barely tolerate me. It hurts. I don't know what to do anymore. We've had a lot of space. Now I want it permanent. We're through, but I still love you.

Love,

Virginia Weasley

Draco slowly folded up the letter, slipping it in his robe pocket. He had no idea that she felt this way. If she still loved him, why would she leave him? Why would she believe him to be unfaithful? Why did she send this now, during vacation? There were so many unanswered questions running through his mind. The most prominent question was: Did he love her? Yes, he answered himself immediately. He loved her with all his heart. He couldn't lose her. He wouldn't. She was, as always, right. He didn't pay enough attention to her. He cared more about himself. He was conceited, but he loved her.

He mounted his Nimbus 2004 from the Malfoy Manor's courtyard where he had been flying, prior to receiving his letter. He flew like he never flew before, rapid and numb. He could feel his salty tears freeze on his face. He dived down an hour later, spotting the Burrow. He saw seven redheads through the thinning of the clouds. A solitary one was on the ground while the other six were all on broomsticks, playing Quidditch. The one on the ground was his Ginny. She sat cross-legged, wearing shorts and a white tank top from what he could see. He floated above the air, where no one could see him, but where he could see everything clearly.

All of a sudden, someone with black hair walked out, holding two glasses of lemonade. Draco recognized it to be Harry Potter himself. He saw Harry hand one glass over to Ginny before sitting down on the ground in front of her. She looked up to him and smiled her heart-warming smile. Out of nowhere, Harry leaned over and kissed her. Draco's eyes widened. Much to his surprise, Ginny's did too before blushing a crimson red color. Draco veered down, almost knocking Harry over. His eyes were molten silver, blazing with fury.

“D-Draco?” Ginny stuttered.

He didn't seem to hear her. He glared at Harry, who had enough common sense to turn around with his wand raised, ready for battle.

“You leave her alone,” Draco snarled.

“What's it to you what we do? You two aren't in a relationship anymore,” Harry retorted.

All her brothers still seemed blissfully unaware of what was happening.

“Because I love her,” Draco replied smoothly.

They heard a soft thud onto the earth. Their head shot to the source of the noise. Ginny had fainted.

When Ginny had reawaken, all she could see was black and white. When the vague images cleared up, she saw them to be Draco and Harry's hair. All her brothers were still flying around, but far away since she couldn't see them. All she could hear were a few banging noises, most likely from Fred and George, and people yelling, most likely from everyone else.

“Gin, are you alright?” Harry questioned.

“I'm fine,” she said, shaking her head to clear the remnants of the blurriness.

“Ginny. I- I missed you,” Draco stammered.

Her eyes widened in shock as her pale face greened a bit. She looked as if she were about to black out again.

“Wh- What are you doing here?” she asked.

“I'm here because I love you and I want you back,” he answered, his tone with a bit of steel and finality.

“What would it matter, Draco? No one would know we weren't together anymore, anyway,” she sighed, thinking that it was about his reputation.

“But I would know, Gin. I love you. I'm in love with you. I've never felt so alone before I read your letter. Yo made me feel so cold because you wrote that you were leaving me. I can't let you do that. I love you too much. I've never felt like that before and I don't want to lose it. I'll be better. I'll do anything and everything a good boyfriend does. Don't leave me, Virginia,” he pleaded.

Her aged brandy colored eyes sparkled with unshed tears, brimming the edge. A small smile played at the ends of her cherub lips. He hoped that this was a good sign.

“Of course,” she sniffled.

He wrapped his strong, but thin arms around her waist, swinging her around, making sure she hit Harry at least once or twice in the process. Harry just frowned, marring his tanned face. He slowly turned and walked back to the house. Once he reached the door, a few yards away, he looked back at the happy couple, still in their embrace.

“I guess I was too late,” he sighed heavily before walking in.

Back where Ginny and Draco stood, she cocked her head back to get a better view of him.

“Do you really mean it?” she asked.

“Which part?” he questioned.

“All of it. Especially the you loving me part,” she grinned.

“Of course, but you're right. We don't know each other. Let's get to know each other for the rest of our lives,” he exhaled.

“Yeah… Let's start now,” she smiled.

For the rest of the afternoon, they sat under an oak tree, discussing their lives. They talked about what they expected from the future. They spoke about absolutely everything. Draco realized how much he missed out on during those two months by not getting to know her better.

Soon after her graduation, he proposed to her. She had automatically accepted, but seemed hesitant to wear his choice of a wedding ring. It was a large diamond with a pinkish tinge to it and smaller rubies and emeralds around the white gold band. Harry watched all of it from afar, mourning his loss while Draco and Ginny celebrated their victories together. Like a family that was based on communication, trust, companionship and love. Never again were they strangers.
