A Famous Analogy
1. A Famous Analogy
Disclaimer: Harry’s not mine; he’s Hermione’s. Oops. He’s J.K. Rowling’s, too. And other related companies’. But first and foremost, he’s Hermione’s.
Author’s Note: This was a plot bunny that I got after my mom commented on Ram and Sita’s (of Hindu mythology, The Ramayana to be exact) relationship. I included that comment in this fic. See if you can find it. And this is nothing but a nonsensical drabble, really. But I like it. This is in Hermione’s POV, by the way, about her and Harry.
And Epona, if you’re reading this, this is not a copy or a rip-off of Unknown Analogy! If it seems that way to you, I’m deeply sorry.
This goes to Sandra, for inspiring me in so many ways. You rock, girl!
A famous analogy, that’s what we are. The very definition of what nature is – a mix of things that’s actually one whole thing.
An analogy that goes against all reason, yet makes sense. Very much sense. And defies all boundaries; that breaks every single restriction there is.
An analogy that’s not normal.
No, we’re not a dysfunctional couple. We’re imperfectly abnormal. The real normal. Not the simplified definition of normal, or society’s and the world’s “normal.” The very idea of being normal makes us shudder. But our kind of abnormal, that’s a different story.
A famous analogy that will stand the test of time; that will stand the test of everything.
A rather odd way of looking at us, actually. We really don’t define anything. Just what love is – which is anything. One of the many forms of love and friendship and – oh, I could go on for hours. But that’s what we are.
Two halves of a whole. A missing part detached from its other matching part. Bought together by something inexplicable, and a bond that’s unbreakable and incredible. And something else – trust. That’s what we are – two halves of a whole. One.
. . . Without you, there’s no me. Without me, there’s no you.
We can’t function without the other. Not me without you, not you without me. Since that’s what our relationship is; without the other, we would be nothing. Nonexistent. That’s our relationship. Yet I couldn’t think of a better one than the one we have. Nothing comes close to what we have. Absolutely nothing.
You and I are a mismatch, some say. Total opposites of one another. In one way, that’s true; we have different personalities, different interests. Yet we’re not a mismatch. We’re something else – the unlikely match. The unlikeliest of them all. A cliché . . . the unlikeliest cliché of them all. We’re opposites that complement each other. Yet we are also something else, at the same time –
A famous analogy, that’s what we are.
