It All Began With Dwarfing Draco

26. Chapter Twenty-Six

When she arrived at the secret room they had shared, Ginny found all of Draco’s things to be gone. He left nothing and it was as if he hadn’t been there in the first place, no hint of his presence.

Ginny felt another pang her heart of loss, the same kind as that matched ones she’d been feeling ever since Draco had…ended it between them. Her eyes scanned the room that he had stayed in for the few days before the Death Eater attack. Memories shuffled through her mind, some good and some bad.

"I would do anything for you Ginny."

Unable to stand there any longer, Ginny turned from the room and shut the door. Wiping a tear from her cheek, Ginny sighed and slowly made her way into her own room. The rubble that had lay on this floor not two days ago was gone and the wall remade, as if that whole day had never happened.

"I’m not afraid of dying Ginny! I’m afraid of letting the Dark Lord win and taking everything I love away from me! I will not let him do that!"

With small, delayed steps, she walked over to the dresser where the pictures of her family sat. She let her fingers run along the frames, remembering how she had caught Draco holding them. Shaking her head sadly, she backed away from the pictures and sat gingery on her bed. Putting the toe of her one shoe to the heel of the other, she slid her foot out of her shoe and then did the same with her other. With a tug, she pulled her Weasley sweater over her head and deposited that too on the floor beside her shoes. Only then did she remember the amulet. She looked down to see it hanging loosely just above her nightshirt, swaying slightly from side to side.

"It will find anyone when asked, where ever or even when ever they are," Antheia had said. Ginny nibbled nervously at her bottom lip, afraid to test it but also afraid of what she might see.

"To see or not to see…" she said absently, remembering the quote from a Muggle play. Taking a deep breath, she carefully took the amulet between her thumb and her middle fingers.

"I would like to see Draco," she asked hesitantly and then as an after thought, "please." The white wisteria blossom began to open and as it did so, the room around Ginny faded and was replaced with a new one. It was blurry at first but got more and more defined by the second. The silvers, greens and blacks were the first colour she made out. As the room got clearer, the sinking feeling in Ginny’s stomach got stronger. Even though Draco was a Slytherin, she couldn’t help but feeling a little out of sorts by being in a Slytherin dorm room.

The room wasn’t exactly cozy per-say but it wasn’t uncomfortable either. It had lots of overstuffed chairs and a nice, big bed but the room was dark with it’s only source of light coming from the fire place across from the bed. There were no windows and Ginny was beginning to understand why the Slytherin bunch were so ill-tempered all the time. The room itself was immaculate, everything neat and clean. It was as if this boy had never created a mess in his life.

Suddenly, Draco came marching into the room and slamming the door behind him. Ginny panicked. What would he say if he found he here? How would he react? But he didn’t say nor do anything. It looked like he didn’t even see her. He just turned to stare at the door, his heavy breathing causing his shoulders to rise and fall.

"Damn it!" he yelled. He dug his hands into his hair and looked ceiling-ward, his eyes closing as he did so. Blindly he moved backwards until his legs touched the bed, causing him to sit. With his elbows on his knees he dragged his hands down over his face but let them pause at his lips, his fingers touching the tip of his nose and his thumbs under his chin.

"I’m sorry Ginny," he whispered. He then looked over at his night table where a small picture fame sat. He reached out and gently picked up the frame and then pulled his wand out of his pocket.

"Ginny luv," he said and tapped the frame twice. Where there had once been no picture at all, Ginny’s face appeared. The real Ginny was in mild shock. Where could he have gotten that picture? She didn’t even remember it being taken. The Ginny in the picture was sitting on one of the up-turned tree roots by the lake, the wind softly blowing through her hair.

Curious, Ginny stood from where she had been seated on the bed and circled around until she was directly infront of Draco. She kneeled down and peered up at his face. There was sorrow in his eyes and, not for the first time, Ginny watched a tear trickle down his cheek. On instinct, she reached up to brush it away but when her fingers were supposed to make contact with his skin they never did. Instead, her hand went straight through. She recoiled and stabbed at her hand with her other. It felt real enough to her but then why did it go through him? She reached for the picture frame and saw her fingers disappear only to come out on the other side.

"He cannot hear, feel or see you Virginia."

"I’ve kind of figured that out already," Ginny said sarcastically and turned to see Antheia standing near the doorway. The woman just smiled in an amused way and nodded before disappearing.

"What’s with immortals and the disappearing act?" Ginny asked herself and shook her head before turning back to Draco. She put her hand to his cheek, trying her hardest not to go through him, and spoke softly to him and knowing full well that he couldn’t hear her. "I know you love me Draco but why did you end it? How can you protect me when you’re not with me? Please, come back, don’t leave me."

"I so sorry Ginny," he whispered again, as if he heard her. He then tapped the frame with his wand again and the picture disappeared, leaving an empty space behind. Replacing it back on the night table, he fell backwards onto the mattress and closed his eyes. Ginny stood and smiled sadly at him before clasping the amulet once more.

"I’ve seen enough," she said and glanced around to see the room fading again. The last thing she saw before her room was completely formed was Draco lying on the bed, her bed, but as she walked towards him he grew fainter and fainter until he wasn’t there at all. Tears slipped down Ginny’s cheeks as she collapsed on the bed.

"Oh Draco."
