"James! Get your lazy arse down here!" Lily shrieked.
James smirked devilishly. It seemed that Lily had found his present. He trodded down the stairs as if he owned the world to see a red-faced Lily Evans. Her flaming hair was still a bit tangled, but her nightgown gave quite a view...
"Can I help you, future Mrs. Potter?" he drawled.
"SHUT UP, JAMES! I CAN'T STAND YOUR LITTLE PRANKS ANYMORE! WHAT IS WITH THE PACKAGE THAT ARRIVED THIS MORNING?" she screamed, waking up every inhabitant within a 50 foot radius.
"What package?" he asked innocently.
"You know what I'm talking about!" she glared icily.
"You know, I don't believe I do," James pouted, snickering at her murderous expression. "I think you should show it to me."
He grinned, blatantly proud of his train of thought. A few heads stuck out from the girls and boys dormitories. Lily threw him the plain brown paper wrapped box. He pulled out a set of lacy red knickers and a matching set of bras. He got her size down pat. A few murmurs of appreciation spread through the boys. Lily turned around, facing the crowd. She felt so idiotic. This was so unfair...
"Listen, James. I told you once and I'll tell you again. I'm taken so bugger off," she sneered.
"Snivellus is nothing compared to me," he boasted.
"You tell her, Prongs!" Sirius shouted.
"Ooo! You're so irritating!" she growled.
"Come on, Evans. You know you love me," he leered.
"In your dreams," she snarled.
"Seventh year is coming to a close, Evans. I'm proposing to you right now," he huffed and got down on one knee. "Marry me, will you?"
He held out a beautiful platinum band with a pink diamond smack dab in the middle. It was a bit ostentatious, but James could afford to be that way. All the girls watched with intensity as the boys laughed at the boy throwing his bachelorhood away if she said yes. As predicted, she laughed in his face and said no.
"You expect me to say yes to you? Ha! I'd rather marry Malfoy!" she said. "Even I have more pride than that."
"Evans! Come on! Neither Snivellus or Malfoy can do what I can do for you," he winked.
"Sod off, Potter!" she yelled, storming back up into her dorm.
He sighed heavily. He'd been trying to coax her into getting together for more than a fling since their fourth year. That's when it had all begun anyway...

"Well, Evans. I guess we'll be working together for a while," he stated nonchalantly.
"Yeah, James. I've realized," she replied sarcastically.
"Merlin, Lil. No need to bite my head off," he muttered.
"Don't call me that," she sneered.
He had been nothing but a thorn in her side for three years. She expected this one to be no different. Only it was, to her absolute annoyance.
At first, he was his usual arrogant self. During the projects, she would catch him staring at her for elongated periods of time before looking away almost shyly. Eventually, they spread to the Great Hall, common room and during classes, which made her slightly uncomfortable. What was wrong with him? He had plenty of willing bodies able to fill his bed at night. She wasn't going to one of them.
She didn't know what he wanted. He craved for something that he couldn't explain. It was like manifest destiny. They were made to be with each other. She was so beautiful, he had come to finally see. It was just so... perfect. If only she would succumb to his advances...

He began to flirt with her during their fifth year. During their sixth, he asked her out various times to go to Hogsmeade or some place of the like. Now he was sending her provocative clothing and jewelry. Why wouldn't she say yes?

Lily glared daggers into the man that was supposed to be her best friend. Nolan Caldwell had deliberately tricked her into going out with James. Snarky little rat. She promised that he would get his soon...
"So, Ev-Lily. How goes it?" he smiled nervously.
She had never seen him so uncomfortable before. Severus wouldn't be too happy about this...
"Everything is fine. How are you?" she asked.
"Good. I still can't believe you said yes. What made you change your mind?" he questioned with a hint of accomplishment in his voice.
"I got duped," she replied.
"Oh," he sagged. "I can promise you one thing, though. You'll be glad."
"I'm not too sure about that, buddy," she frowned.
"I am," he leered.
To her displeasure, she did have a good time. Great, actually. They went to the Shrieking Shack, Madame Puttifoot's Tea Shoppe and Zonko's. He had gotten her a few Sugar Quills (her favorite) from Honeydukes and a dozen blood red roses along the way. He was an absolute gentleman and only went as far as intertwining their fingers. Fortunately, they had not passed Severus Snape or any of his Slytherin pals.

"I had a good time today," Lily smiled softly.
"Told you," James smirked.
She just shook her head. She turned to walk up to the girl's dormitory before James stopped her, grasping her wrist. She looked at him questioningly.
"What?" she asked.
"This," he replied.
He pulled her closer to him and pressed his mouth against hers. Her lips parted in shock. He took the chance and delved his tongue into the wet orifice, running over every crevice. Lily eventually melted into the kiss and became as enthusiastic as him. James pulled away.
"Night," he grinned.
He walked up the boy's dormitory, leaving behind a confused Lily. She subconsciously touched her lips, which were still dealing with the lingering tingles of the kiss. Why did she think that life just got more complicated?
