Chapter 3: Vampire slayer
Harry found himself standing in front of Hermione’s bedroom door; he knocked on it gently, calling her name. He could hear her crying into her pillow.
“Hermione, can you please let me in?” Harry pleaded gently, there was a sound of unlocking, Harry grabbed the handle and opened the door, he felt his heart breaking into millions pieces when he saw her red eyes. “Oh Mione.” Harry whispered as he held out his arms, Hermione ran into them like they did in second year, but this was a totally different situation, that time they were threatened by Voldemort, this time they are being threatened by their best friend.
Harry moved toward the bed, he sat on it, pulling Hermione onto his lap so he could continue to comfort her.
“You read the letter.” Hermione stated, it was not a question and he knew.
“Yeah I did, I just can’t believe Ron.” Harry muttered.
“I knew that he had a crush on me but I honestly thought it would go away!” she exclaimed “Then he went on about me going out with you because of your money and frame…” she added before bursting into tears, Harry kissed her forehead.
“I know, I can’t believe that he would think that you are that kinda girl, I know you and I know that you are not like that, I really though Ron did too.” Harry explained.
“He’s acting like you stole me away from him, like I’m some sort of prize that has to be won!” Hermione exclaimed furiously, Harry rubbed her back.
“Shh,” Harry soothed “It won’t do you any good if you get worked up.” Harry explained and Hermione rested her head on his shoulder as his hand stroked her hair.
Soon Harry felt her breathing even out, he looked down and noticed that she was sleeping. He, gently, shifted her in his arms so he could lay her on the bed; he pulled the covers over her and kissed her forehead before turning around. Crookshanks was standing at the door.
“Look after her buddy.” Harry whispered Crookshanks gave a small purr as he rubbed his head against Harry’s leg before jumping onto the bed and curling up beside Hermione.
Harry smiled as he closed the room and headed back down the stairs to clean up the kitchen.
He walked into the kitchen when the last music stopped and a new one started. He didn’t bother to turn the player off as he started cleaning up.
Look into my eyes - you will see
What you mean to me
Search your heart - search your soul
And when you find me there you'll search no more
Don't tell me it's not worth tryin' for
You can't tell me it's not worth dyin' for
You know it's true
Everything I do - I do it for you
Harry stopped and listened to the song, it was so familiar for some reason that he couldn’t put his finger on it; he listened to the song once more.
Look into my heart - you will find
There's nothin' there to hide
Take me as I am - take my life
I would give it all I would sacrifice
Don't tell me it's not worth fightin' for
I can't help it there's nothin' I want more
Ya know it's true
Everything I do - I do it for you
There's no love - like your love
And no other - could give more love
There's nowhere - unless you're there
All the time - all the way
Don't tell me it's not worth tryin' for
I can't help it there's nothin' I want more
I would fight for you - I'd lie for you
Walk the wire for you - Ya I'd die for you
Ya know it's true
Everything I do - I do it for you
Harry just shrugged his shoulders as the song stopped he turned back to cleaning up, ignoring the other songs that came on.

Jane sighed as she sat back in the chair of her car, she was glad that she was going home, the meeting was brutal because she spent most of it arguing with her boss, who wanted to cut down on some equipments. She felt like that it was the worst day she’s ever had. She flipped on the music and sighed when one of her favourite came on.
I’m gonna hold on –
Cause what I believe in is so strong
No matter how long, no one
Can tell me I’m wrong – I ain’t going down
She started singing along with the song while her head moved to the beat.
I had a baby at fifteen –
Daddy never did forgive me
I never heard from the guy again
I had to drop outta high school
Everybody treated me so cruel
But I didn’t give in and give her away
I’m gonna hold on –
Cause what I believe in is so strong
No matter how long, no one
Can tell me I’m wrong – I ain’t going downHer smile got me through the day –
And every night I’d pray
I could give her enough
At night I’d lie awake and cry –
Hoping we’d get by
Cause you can’t live on love
I worked night and day to keep us going
Through the sweat and tears
Without her knowing
It was worth it just to watch her grow
Oh, Oh, at least I was able to hold her
Whenever she needed my shoulder
I’m so glad I never let her go
I’m gonna hold on –
Cause what I believe in is so strong
No matter how long, no one
Can tell me I’m wrong – I ain’t going down
Her smile got me through the years –
Dried away all the tears
And filled me with hope
At night I’d lie awake and cry
Prayed we would get by
And for the courage to cope
Oh, Oh, Oh
Her smile got me through the day –
And every night I’d pray
I could give her enough
I’m gonna hold on –
Cause what I believe in is so strong
No matter how long, no one
Can tell me I’m wrong – I ain’t going down
I’m gonna hold on –
Cause what I believe in is so strong
No matter how long, no one
Can tell me I’m wrong – I ain’t going down
No one can tell me I’m wrong
I ain’t going down. Jane smiled when the song finished, she felt so much better, that song could always cheer her up whenever she was feeling low, she just hoped that she would be able to give Hermione enough, especially with Josh being dead.

Jane entered the house; she smiled when she saw Harry cleaning up the kitchen but frowned when she couldn’t see Hermione.
“Harry,” Harry jumped and spun around, his eyes wide with fear that Jane laughed “Oh! I’m so sorry Harry, I didn’t expect to give you a fright.” Jane apologized through her laugher.
Harry sighed with relief that it was Jane.
“It’s okay Mrs. Granger.” Harry dismissed.
“Harry, call me Jane, please.” She stated; Harry nodded “Where’s Hermione?”
“She’s sleeping, she got a letter earlier and it kinda upset her, she was crying but she’s okay now.” Harry explained as he placed a glass in the cupboard.
“Why was she crying?” Jane asked, concerned. Harry turned around, he hesitated first, not wanting to cause in trouble. “It’s okay Harry, I won’t say anything till she comes to me first.” Jane soothed and Harry nodded.
“You know Ron Weasley.” Harry asked and Jane nodded “Well, he sent a letter to Mione this morning, he gave her into trouble for inviting me over this summer and accused her of cheating on him.” Harry muttered with a roll of his eyes.
“I take it there’s more?”
“Yeah, you see, Ron says he’s in love with her, we both knew that he had a crush on her but didn’t know that it ran this deep, Mione was dredging the day he brought it up because she doesn’t feel the same.” Harry explained.
“You really care for her don’t you?” Jane asked and Harry looked up at her.
“Yes I do, I really care for her, she’s my best friend, I don’t know where I would be if it wasn’t for her. I’m just eternally grateful that she came into my life and became my best friend.” Harry stated honestly, Jane smiled at him.
Unknown to the pair of them, Hermione was sitting at the bottom of the stairs, listening. Her eyes filled with wonder and tears of happiness, she was glad that Harry came into her life.
“So Harry, why don’t you tell me about some of your adventures at school, Hermione rarely talks about them except when you and Ron are in trouble or going to cause trouble.” Jane explained and Harry chuckled lightly as he made his way over to the kettle.
“Would you like some tea or coffee before we start, it can take a long time.” Harry offered and Jane laughed slightly as she nodded.
“Sure, coffee would be great, two sugar and a drop of milk.”
“I’ll have hot chocolate and I’m sure you know how I take it.” Hermione teased as she entered the kitchen, Harry laughed.
“Sure thing, coming right up.” Harry stated as he got the drinks ready and settled down.
“Well, we both first met on the train when we were heading to Hogwart for the first time, she came bursting in looking for a toad that one of our friend lost.” Harry started.
“I didn’t even tell them my name, after I found out about Harry’s, I just rattled off about all the books I had read about him in.” Hermione added and Harry laughed.
“Then you fixed my glasses!” Harry added and they both smiled at the memory.
“We didn’t get to be friends till Halloween, overheard Ron say something which caused me to cry and basically lock myself in the bathroom.”
“Once we found out there was a troll, I dragged Ron so that we could find her, I distracted the troll while Ron casted a spell to render the troll unconscious.”
“Second year, Harry and Ron flew a car to school.” Hermione stated while Jane looked at them in a stunned shock.
“You flew a car.” Jane asked.
“Yes, you see, Mr. Weasley has enchanted a car to fly, the barrier to get to the school was blocked so we took the car to get to school only to get stuck in a tree which likes to hit back.” Harry explained, Hermione laughed.
“Hedwig wouldn’t go near you for a week after that happened!” Hermione injected.
“That wasn’t funny, she pecked me every time I went to stroke her!” Harry complained
“It served you right, you scared the poor bird!” Hermione explained and Harry rolled his eyes.
“Girls! You stick together!” Harry teased which provoked Hermione to lightly punch him on the shoulder. “Argh!” Harry cried out, holding his arm in mock pain, which caused Hermione to crack up with laugher.
Jane watched the scene with amusement and happiness that her daughter was happy.
“So when do you the two of you want to Diagon Alley to get your stuff?” Jane intruppted the playful banter that was processing between the two best friends.
“Tomorrow? We should get the owls soon, Dumbledore decided to gives ours earlier so we wouldn’t be walking about in the town for so long.” Hermione explained and Harry nodded in agreement.
“Do you two ever fight?” Jane asked, both of them looked at each other and shrugged.
“We have arguments, the longest time we’ve not spoken to each other out of anger was in third year, that only lasted like two days or something.” Hermione thought about it and Harry nodded.
“It’s mostly you and Ron that fight the most.” Harry explained.
“Now you mentioned it, have you ever noticed that whenever Ron and I fight, we don’t really make up? We never compromise on any thing, while you and I, we always listen to the other, even when we’re arguing.” Hermione asked and Harry nodded.
“Yeah you’re right.”
“Why are you and Ron friends anyway?” Jane asked; Hermione, for the first time since Harry known her, was stunned for words.
“I don’t know, I guess our mutual friendship is because of Harry.” Hermione guessed.
“Me? Why me?” Harry asked.
“Think about it, if it wasn’t for you, I honestly doubt that Ron and I would have been friends.” Hermione explained and Harry nodded, after thinking about it.
“I guess you’re right.”
“Aren’t I always?” Hermione asked and Harry laughed.
“Oh yeah.” Harry teased back before rushing out of the room so that Hermione couldn’t punch him for that remark.
“HARRY JAMES POTTER! GET BACK HERE NOW!” Hermione screeched as she chased him, leaving a laughing Jane in the kitchen.
I think that’s a good place to leave it off. Next Chapter, we head to Diagon Alley, so stay tuned.
Reviews would be brilliant thanks!
