I have been watching this madness
For far too many years
Watching his spirit breaking
And wiping away his tears
Through the darkness I heard him
Screaming from the dreams
In the day he is different
And not what he seems
I wish I could help him
And take away the pain
But the hurt is never-ending
And drowns like freezing rain
Slowly he is fading away
Drifting from this place
I see it clearly in his eyes
And read it clearly on his face
The monsters that haunt him
Are eating away at his soul
And the sleepless nights are finally
Taking their dreadful toll
He walks the days blankly
Staring through expressionless eyes
Not seeing what we see
But that which we all despise
His life has been terrible
Like one stretching nightmare
Trapped by a prophecy spoken
With the world he has to bear
Those eyes which were once sparkling
Are now faded and dead
A voice once used often
Is lost without a word said
The darkness is approaching
Threatening all we hold dear
And he is trying to stop it
But is caught by a burning sear
Families are destroyed and lives lost
Night is falling too quickly
And the shadows are rising from
Places dark and sickly
War is upon us
It has been building for so long
It all comes down to him
Trying to find a place to belong
No home to go to
No family to call his own
Only death trailing closely
And the darkness known
I will stand by his side
Until the battle is right here
And I will fight proudly
For the boy who is near
For he was the candle
That we could place our light
And he was the leader
Leading us to fight
And on that day
When darkness was falling
I gave my life for him
And answered true loves calling
And I watched his eyes
Fill with glistening tears
As he held my empty body
And let surface his many fears
And I smiled
As he laid me down to rest
And faced the final terror
And sat for the final test
Love was shining from him
And was filling my heart
As I watched him finally
Fulfill his part
And as I faded from him
He held me, and I cried too
And with tears streaming, he said
"I will always love you."
