Dancing the Night Away
By Hermione Potter
Chapter 3: Welcome America!
Hermione slowly walked into the Great Hall, yawning. She sat down at the Gryffindor table beside Ginny and took a piece of toast, buttering it lightly.
“Good morning, Hermione. How are you doing?” the younger girl asked. Hermione nibbled her toast. “I’m doing as good as can be. What about you?” Hermione questioned.
“Ah, I’m fine too. I’m entering that dance contest. But I don’t know who to enter it with..Maybe Dean or Seamus?” Ginny replied thoughtfully.
Well you’re going to have some competition!” Hermione laughed as Harry and Ron walked in, sitting down across from them.
“What’s so funny?” Ron asked confused. Hermione and Ginny looked at him. “You wouldn’t understand Ronald. This is women’s business. You wouldn’t have any prior knowledge in that category,” Ginny rolled her eyes. Ron shrugged before digging into some eggs and sausage.
“Honestly, Ron. Can’t you eat with your mouth closed. It’s quite disgusting, watching all that stuff just spurt from your mouth. Ugh,” Hermione closed her eyes. “I think I just lost my appetite. Suddenly, Parvati ran over, her face red.
“Did you hear?! Hogwarts is hosting a stay with the Witchcraft and Wizardry Academy in Salem! Can you imagine? America!” she squealed, settling down next to Ginny. Hermione’s eyes widened.
“But what for?” she asked.
“For the dancing competition I guess,” she shrugged, telling the rest of the Gryffindors about it.
“Why would another school no less than the American witching school want to come to England, for a dancing contest?” the girl asked.
“Maybe they’re just bored of their country and need a new scene,” Ron answered. Harry rolled his eyes and nudged him.
“Eat and don’t talk. Maybe it’s...like fourth year. I mean, maybe other school are coming too. Anyways, I heard about Salem too. But I didn’t hear about the other ones like Durmstrang and Beauxbatons,” he said, staring at Hermione.
“Well, we have a lot of competition coming our way Harry. Think you’re ready for it?” she grinned.
“Definitely. No one is gonna be a match for us. Which reminds me, Hermione, don’t we have a practice tonight?” Harry asked, smiling softly at her as he ate some porridge. She blushed slightly.
“Yeah. In the Room of Requirement,” she assured, feeling Ginny’s eyes dart from Harry to her. Her eyes widened in realization and she squealed.
“Hermione! Oh my gosh!” she gasped, clasping her hands over her mouth. Harry glanced at her strangely.
“Are you all right?” he asked.
“Oh, perfectly all right. Just a little warm I guess,” Ginny lied, fanning her face with her hand. He looked at her unconvincingly and looked back at Hermione.
“Well, I’ve got Quidditch practice in a few. See you guys later. Come on Ron, before you choke on a sausage,” he complained, nudging Ron in the arm. The ginger-haired boy motioned for Harry to go on with out him.
“Hermione, you are coming with me, right now.” Ginny demanded, grabbing the girls arm and dragging her out of the hall. Ron glanced at them for a second and turned back to his food, trying to swallow down more.
“Hermione! You like Harry!” Ginny exclaimed, pointing at her. Hermione stared at her, covering her face before it turned red.
“Is it that obvious?” she asked, fearing the whole school might know and then Harry would find out.
“Well, no. But I see the way you two look at each other. It love at first sight. You people just don’t know it,” Ginny laughed.
“You don’t think Harry knows, do you?” Hermione replied.
“Nah. He’s a boy. Usually, boys are very oblivious to the things around them. But later, Harry’s going to find out you like him. How long?”
“Well, I’ve only liked him for a few months. But I think I might have liked him since I met him. I never really noticed is all,” she shrugged at looked at Ginny.
“I know the dancing probably pulled you both closer. It would be really cute. You two dancing to Latin music. The most romantic music in the world! It would be fantastic I bet!” she exclaimed. Hermione smiled softly.
“I guess it would...” she laughed.
“Umm, do you know when the Amreican school will be here?” Hermione asked.
“Well, I heard some teachers saying that they’ll be here tonight by dinner. I hope some of them are really cute,” Ginny grinned.
“Ginny!” Hermione exclaimed, giggling.
“Well, a girl can hope, can’t she?”
THAT NIGHT....
“Wow, Harry..You’re doing great for someone who hasn’t danced a lot.. You definitely have some talent,” Hermione breathed as they continued to move to the music.
“I have a good teacher,” he chuckled, watching her cheeks burn. Harry smiled and slowed down with the music, having their bodies just sway slowly.
“How was Quidditch practice?” she asked casually. He shrugged slightly, stepping back and then forward.
“As rough as it can be. How was your day in the library?” he teased.
“For your information, I was with Ginny and Luna. So be quiet,” she retorted, pouting.
“Okay, okay. Sorry. Is it time for dinner yet?” he asked.
“Honestly, sometimes I think you’re Ron. You two share the same appetites,” she rolled her eyes and wiped the sweat from her forehead.
“Hey! At least I eat with my mouth closed,” he retaliated.
“Yeah. There is that,” she smiled and stretched before walking out of the room and heading down to the Great Hall.
“Haha, very funny, he said sarcastically as they both walked into the hall and joined their friends.
“Where have you been?” Ron asked nonchalantly.
“If you had listened at breakfast and not stuffing your face, you would have heard that Harry and I were going to practice for the contest,” Hermione sighed, picking at her potatoes.
“Sorry, miss bookworm,” Ron stuck his tongue out her and huffed.
“You’re so childish,” she commented.
“Well at least I’m not a li-,” before he could finish, Professor Dumbledore stood up and the hall gave their attention to him.
“Thank you. Students, we are very fortunate to host the wizarding school from Salem. They will be taking part in the dancing contest and will be adapting to the Hogwarts curriculum. Please make them feel as if they were at home. And to celebrate this joyous occasion, we shall hold a big feast at the end of the year for them and now, we shall sort them,” he announced and watched the doors open.
Harry, Hermione, and Ron turned to the oak doors, seeing the students walk in, chattering quietly as they gathered in the front of the hall.
Professor McGonagall stepped down as the head mistress of the school sat next to Professor Sprout.
“I welcome you to Hogwarts. When I call your name please proceed here and the Sorting Hat shall place you in your house,” she said sternly.
“Yoshika, Sakura.” A girl with long black hair and brown eyes stepped up and sat down. She looked about their age, but she was Chinese or Japanese.
“Well, your blood is striving to give you courage. GRYFFINDOR!” The Sorting Hat shouted. Everyone clapped as she smiled and made her way down to the Gryffindor table, sitting next to Hermione.
“Ray, Darien.” Then a boy in his sixth year stepped up. He had dark brown hair that spilled across his forehead, almost covering his hazel eyes.
“You’re also full of courage, but you have the intelligence. GRYFFINDOR!” Slowly, he walked to Sakura and sat down beside her. Harry glanced at Darien and Sakura, watching them talk.
“Tracey, Shawn.” A boy with blonde hair and clear blue eyes of the age thirteen eagerly sat on the chair.
“You’re the energetic one but full of brains. HUFFLEPUFF!” The boy ran down and excitedly sat down.
“Matthews, Violet.” Harry stared as he watched a girl solemnly walking up to the stool. Her hair was black with dark purple highlights. But what he noticed easily about her was that she had violet eyes.
“My my. You’re the cunning one. SLYTHERIN!”
As Violet walked to the Slytherin table past Harry and Hermione, he felt something that he feared. His scar burned.
