1. The Best Gift

Author’s Notes: Happy Valentine’s Day all! This is the semi-longer version of a drabble found here:

Hope you enjoy! ;)

Harry was doomed. How he hated Valentine’s Day he repeated to himself as weaved in and out of stores trying to find the perfect gift. They had only been dating…what….two months now…Yes. Two months. What was he supposed to get her? A book? No, that’s was the sort of thing he gave her when they were just friends; and now they were so much more. Jewelry? No. Too serious. Candy? Not serious enough, teddy bear? Not her style. Flowers? To cliché. Harry let out a frustrated groan and slapped his forehead repeatedly as he walked.

He stopped in front of a large store with glittering signs that said “VALENTINE’S GIFTS! Get the best thing your special someone deserves!” Harry sighed and shrugged; he tried everything else and found nothing, so he might as well try to find something inside.

A small bell rang over his head as he entered the store and loads of pink confetti fell on top of him. He coughed, spluttered and fought his way against hundreds of pink and red decorations.

“Hello Deary! What can I help you with today?” a witch wearing sickly pink robes, large, blonde hair and way to much makeup approached Harry with a large grin.

“Oh.. Erm. I’m not sure…” he trailed off looking around the store. There were several frantic boys searching for a last minute gift for their girlfriends. Harry gulped audibly; Hermione would be crushed if he didn’t get her anything.

“Well let me help you pick something out!” the witch spoke in an annoyingly excited tone.

“How about so sweets? We have a large variety!” she led Harry over to a large display of all sorts of candy.

“Um…No thanks,” Harry muttered looking around the store.

“Ok then how about a lovely bouquet? We have all sorts of lovely breeds of flowers!” the witch steered Harry to a section of the store where hundreds of bouquets rested peacefully.

“No. She’s too special for candy and flowers,” Harry said flatly getting more and more agitated by the woman.

“Oh of course dear they’re all special.” the woman said sprucing up an arrangement of flowers.

Harry gritted his teeth, “No she’s more than special, she’s…to wonderful for words,” Harry felt himself blush as soon as the words left his lips.

The witch raised her eyebrow at Harry and said, “Well I can see that I can’t help you today,” she strutted away from him to help another costumer leaving Harry annoyed and more frustrated than ever.

He exited the store and banged his head against the side of the wall until he saw stars. Slumping down to the ground dejectedly Harry kicked the snow.

What was he supposed to get the girl he loved for Valentine’s Day?….Wait….Love? Suddenly the stars before his eyes weren’t from the pain in his head, it was from the joy in his heart. He sprang to his feet and began running until he couldn’t breathe. He shouted her name dodging the startled passersby’s.

“HERMIONE!” he shouted louder once she came into his view, right in front of The Three Broomsticks.

Hermione spun around and collapsed onto the ground as Harry tackled her into the snow.

“Harry!” she gasped in surprise but was cut off from his lips pressing onto hers.

‘Maybe Valentine’s Day isn’t so bad,’ Harry thought as he pulled away from her.

“I love you,” he whispered. Hermione’s eyes swelled with tears and she replied,

“I love you too.”

Harry kissed her right there, on the ground, in the snow. People started, gawked and whispered at The-Boy-Who-Lived, snogging his girlfriend in the snow in Hogsmeade.

But Harry didn’t care, he had Hermione and her love; and that was the best gift of tem all.
