You're More Than The Boy Who Lived

1. The Final Truth

You're More Than The Boy Who Lived
by SVZ

SVZ's note: What a break from anime! I've decided to finally try (and most likely fail) to write a Harry Potter fic. A songfic in fact. Hope you guys like it and that it doesn't suck like heck!

Disclaimer: Okay, if I own Harry Potter, why would I be typing my ass off writing FANFICTION?!? Also, I don't own Michelle Branch's song "All you Wanted". Sheesh, you think a thirteen year old who gets hives just by the thought of writing POETRY (well, not really) can own such a great song? Heh, lawyers.. please use logic before you starting suing me. ^^

Dedications: I want to dedicate DTN (even though she isn't a fan of Harry Potter), Arieslily17 and Shima and Tempis (they are H/Hr. supporters) and of course BES!

I wanted to be like you
I wanted everything

Hermione Granger stepped into the Three BroomSticks, shivering slightly. It was the weekend before winter holidays and it seemed like all the students; third years and up were crowded in there. Almost all the tables were filled with couples or groups of friends. But mostly couples that were whispering and snuggling with each other.

Hermione spied Lavender and Ron sitting in the corner. At first glance it would seem like they were just like all the other couples... that is until you notice Ron was giving someone the evil eye and Lavender seemed to be trying to prevent Ron from killing someone...

The curious brunette followed her best friend's gaze and the source was Ginny and Draco.

Yes, Draco Malfoy.

After all, Draco isn't a very common name, is it?

Draco had turned over to the good side during fifth year; being a valuable alliance (and a pain in the rear). Although, this had much to do with the fact he was charmed bynone other than Ginny Weasley. Ginny had turned from a cute little redhead Gryffindor to a very beautiful witch during the summer before Hermione was a fifth year. However, that didn't stop Draco from terrorizing all the Gryffindors at any chance.

Hermione had to stifle a laugh. 'Guess like Ron still has a bit of a grudge against Draco.' She thought back to the year before when the two fell in love and Ginny had to somehow break the news to her brother. It was not pretty. Ron had screamed so loud that Seamus had swore his relatives in Ireland had heard him; and right after Ron's outburst, Ron had to be held back by Harry to keep from hexing Draco.

Not wanting to intrude on the couple's privacy, the Head Girl made her way across the room to where Harry sat. Not that it was hard to spot him. Harry had a late growth spurt but now he was almost as tall as Ron and just as easy to spot; with his unruly (but really cute; Hermione had to admit) jet black hair.

The raven-haired boy grinned when he she sat down, "I thought you weren't coming, 'Mione."

"I changed my mind at the last second," said Hermione lightly. "I had thought to tutor a first year in Transfiguration but she canceled at the last minute."

"I'm glad you came," said Harry warmly. "I was just about to be sick if I had to watch Ginny and Draco's display of affection (which involves a lot of snogging and not many breaks for oxygen) alone."

Hermione laughed. "Well, you're not alone anymore," she responded, her cinnamon eyes twinkling. Harry then performed the Summoning Spell (which he was now an expert at ) and a jug of Butterbeer landed at their table.

"Thanks," said Hermione gratefully accepting the simmering beverage. Hermione took a sip of her butterbeer and instantly, she felt warmth travel through her body. 'Thank you; whoever invented Butterbeer,' she cheered silently. She looked up to see Harry staring at her, "Hmm? What's wrong Harry?" she asked, her eyes fixed on his brilliant emerald ones.

Harry blinked and smiled again (God, she loved that smile). "Oh I was just thinking about how we've haven't talk for such a long time."

Hermione frowned as she took another sip. "We talk every day almost constantly,' she said, perplexed.

Harry shook his head, "No, I mean really talk. Remember how we use to take a walk; just the two of us, around the lake once a week or so?" he paused as Hermione nodded. "Well, now that we're Head of the schools with our schedules and my Quidditch Practices..." he trailed off looking at Hermione and just realizing how pretty, no, beautiful she had become throughout this year. Her bushy hair still gave her some problems but now it was falling softly down her shoulders in silky chestnut curls. Her face was a lot more defined than it was when he first met her; Harry noted. It was completely flawless; perfect clear complexion, luscious lips, and beautiful brown eyes that was anything but ordinary. It was the color of honey but you could see flecks of cinnamon and gold there and there.

The brown eyed beauty seated in front of him cocked her head sideways, "So what do you want to talk about?" she inquired.
Harry snapped out of it. 'Hmm... hard one... we've basically talk about everything and anything...'

"Well, I've been meaning to ask you this. What was your first impression of me?"

Hermione looked thoughtful, her eyes hazy and her expression dreamy. "Well, when I read about you in all those books, I imagine you'd be a head taller than everyone and basically a lot like Lockhart," Hermione gave him a sheepish grin and he somehow felt less angered about being compared to that blonde haired, full of air, narcissus. "I was a bit let down and disappointed when I realized you were just like everyone else."

Harry nodded, his blazing green eye urging her to continue.

Hermione continued, "However, that all changed when I saw you on that broomstick with Draco. Even though you were breaking the rules, I knew you did the right thing and after the whole episode with the troll.." Hermione gave him a small smile.

So I tried to be like you
And I got swept away

"I guess I got swept away by you and your bravery," Hermione said teasingly. She then turned serious which surprised Harry. "Harry, I want to ask you a question..." she said hesitantly as though asking permission.

Harry looked at her strangely. It was odd of her to be hesistant."Then fire away 'Mione. I've asked my question you can ask yours."

Hermione gulped. "Well this question is rather personal so I can understand if you don't want to answer it. But what really happened at after you touched the Cup in our fourth year?"

There was a pregnant pause and Hermione quickly regretted asking that . Harry had never mentioned what happened when he had to face Voldemort. She knew it must have been horrible for Harry to witness Cedric dying and Voldemort coming back to life.. to his human form.

Hermione was about to apologized for stirring up bad memories when Harry finally spoke, his words barely controlled at an even tone.

"When we touched the Cup, we were transported into a graveyard. Wormtail was there," Harry spat out the name as though it tasted vile, " and he killed Cedric. Right in front of me with the Avada Kedava curse." The last words were spoken bitterly.
There was pain on Harry's face as he spoke was indescribable and Hermione's heart ached just seeing him like this.

"You don't have to continue Harry," she said quietly. "This will just hurt you. I don't need the answer."

I didn't know that it was so cold
And you needed someone
to show you the way

Harry shook his head. "No, it's OK Herm. It's about time I told someone."

Hermione nodded her head, urging her to go on.

"Voldemort was in a cauldron. He was to take back a human shape and he needed Wormtail and me to revive him." Harry paused, to make sure she was listening. "Then Wormtail had to cut off his hand" Hermione had to stifle a gasp "and he needed my blood. Wormtail needed that for the potion or spell, what ever that was. They also needed something from Voldemort's father's grave. That's the reason we were at the graveyard."

So I took your hand and we figured out
That when the tide comes
I'd take you away

Hermione paled at those words. She had no idea. The same time when Harry was off fighting the Most Evilest and Deadliest Dark Wizard in history was the same time she was worried about her exam scores. Hermione felt unworthy of Harry's friendship at the moment.

She reached across the table and took Harry's hand in hers. To much of her surprise, it wasn't at all callused from Qudditch practice. "Go on Harry, I'm listening," she said earnestly.

Harry somehow felt stronger when he heard those words and proceed. "I had to watch while Voldemort got his new form. God, Hermione. It was probably one of the worst moments in my life," he confessed, his eyes going dark with the images in his head. "I kept wishing he would drown. But he didn't, I had to watch helplessly while he got his power back. I couldn't stop him. I couldn't."

Hermione was loss of words. Doing the only thing she could think of, she wrapped him in a hug (unaware of the interested looks she got from everyone in the room). "I'm so sorry Harry, I wish I could have been there," she whispered.

If you want to
I can save you
I can take you away from here
So lonely inside
So busy out there
And all you wanted
was somebody who cares

Hermione released Harry from her hold. "Do you... still want to finish?" she asked. "I will understand if you don't want to."

Harry squeezed her hand appreciatively. "No Herm, it's about time I tell someone the whole truth besides Dumbledore and Sirius. I've kept you and Ron in the dark for too long."

He took a deep breath, "After Voldemort came back, he summoned all the Death Eaters. Naturally, Lucius, Goyle, Crabbe, Avery, you get the idea, were there. Voldemort and I basically played cat and mouse. I was the mouse. However, when we dueled, our wands connected because of the phoenix feathers in them. The feathers were from Fawkes and when one of the feather meets it's brother..."

"... It connects and carry out something very rare.." gasped Hermione. She then realized she had interrupted and blushed. "Sorry, please go on."

"Exactly. Our wands did something funny and all of the sudden, shadows of Cedric, Bertha Jorkins, an old man, and my parents came out..." Harry said softly.

"Were they ghosts?" asked Hermione timidly.

"No, they weren't. The shadows caused a distraction and gave me just enough time to escape with Cedric's body." Harry was quiet, he stared at his butterbeer even though his tankard was completely empty. Hermione knew he was reliving it every moment of it.

"God, Harry. I'm so sorry!" she whispered. Her eyes were welled up with tears "This was none of my business. I should have never asked. Please forgive me!"

Harry shook his head and placed his hands on Hermione's shoulders firmly. "No, don't be sorry. I've told you before, I'm actually glad you've finally asked me."

"But..."

Harry placed his finger on Hermione's lips. "Shh.. I know you're going to say you brought up bad memories. Don't worry 'Mione. I've had nightmares about this for a long time."

"Why did you tell me?" asked Hermione, after she calmed down a bit.

"Huh?" Harry stared blankly at her.

"What did you tell me about this?" Hermione asked again.

"Because I know you would understand. If I told anyone else except for perhaps Ron, they would probably blab that all over school and The Daily Prophet would have a field day. To them, I'm just The Boy Who Lived. They wouldn't care." The words that left Harry's mouth were bitter with anger and his eyes flashed dangerously as he clutched the tankard of butterbeer tightly, so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

I'm sinking slowly
So hurry hold me
Your hand is all I have to keep me hanging on
Please can you tell me
So I can finally see
Where you go when you're gone

The words in fact, were spoken so harshly that it startled Hermione. "That's not true!" she cried.

"Yes it is. They only think of me as a hero. Or at least some sort of one. They don't care if I get nightmares every night and I hear screams of my parents dying, they don't even care that I don't want to be The Boy Who Lived goddamnit!"
Harry had slammed his fist on the table in frustration.

If you want to
I can save you
I can take you away from here
So lonely inside
So busy out there
And all you wanted
was somebody who cares

They do care!" insisted Hermione. "Remember that rumor that I was playing with you and Krum? Most of the mail was angry at me for hurting you. They do care!"

Harry didn't respond. He just stared stubbornly at the table.

Hermione's eyes flashed dangerously. "Harry, if you don't believe me, I will remind you every five minutes for the rest of your life."

Harry looked up and Hermione could see emotions behind his glasses and in his brilliant eyes. 'You would?' they seem to say.

"Why would you bother?" asked Harry, hoarsely.

All you wanted was somebody who cares
If you need me you know I'll be there
Oh, yeah

Hermione smiled at him. "Because I care, Harry. I care very much." 'You're more than The Boy Who Lived, Harry. You're my friend, and a bloody good one too,' she thought silently.

" Really? You do care about me?" asked Harry.

Hermione grinned playfully at him. "Of course you prat! I hang around you ever since first year and I know you inside and out! How many times have I covered up for you when you were doing who-knows-what? How many times have I been at the verge of death for you? Countless! If you don't think I don't care after all of that, what do you think?" Hermione reached over and tousled Harry's already messy black hair.

"You know, people are going to think we're a couple now," remarked Harry, brightening up considerably.

"Do you care about what they think?" asked Hermione.

"Not at all."

"Good," said Hermione, satisfied as she took another gulp of butterbeer. "You shouldn't care what those gossipers thinks."

"Hey Hermione?"

"Yes, Harry?" Hermione fixed her gaze on his own.

"Would you like to make the rumors true?" he asked, blushing.

"What?!" asked Hermione, blinking.

Harry could feel himself turn red." I mean that-"

"I know what you meant!" exclaimed Hermione. She lowered her voice, "But why me? There are tons of girls who are after you. I'm never going to be as pretty as them. I will never measure up."

Harry leaned forward and brushed a curl out of Hermione's eyes. "You're right that you'll never going to be as pretty as them..."

Hermione glared, even though those were her very own words.

".. but that's because you've already surpassed them. You're radiant Herm. What do you say?" he asked, more nervous than he had ever been.

"I accept," declared Hermione, kissing Harry on the lips.

Little do they know that Lavender and managed to calm down Ron and they were witnessing all of this.

"About bloody time," remarked Ron lightly while putting his arm around his girlfriend. "I was beginning to think they were going to be hopeless cases."

Lavender just giggled. "Oh, c'mon Ron, they looks so cute!

"
"Which reminds me, I think we should get Colin and his damn camera here. Can you say black mail?"

Lavender sighed, rolling her eyes. She gave Ron a long kiss. "How about no?" she asked.

If you want to
I can save you
I can take you away from here
So lonely inside
So busy out there
And all you wanted
was somebody who cares

Please can you tell me
So I can finally see
Where you go when you're gone

The End

SVZ's note: So.. what do you think? Hopefully, it didn't suck. If it did, maybe it's because I'm typing this at 2:09 in the morning (Eastern Time) and a bit rushed since any second my parents are going to SO kill me for being up so late. Oh well, please leave a review ( I don't' care if it's just one word like "Good" or anything). I really want feedback since this is my first HP fic. I reallywant to know if I should continue or if I should just quit while I'm ahead.
