Chapter One
Professor at Privet

A cold, black cloak of darkness, also known as night, fell over the little town of Surrey, England. Although it was nearing the start of August the air was comfortably windy which brought a nice chill to the small, stuffy town. A plump man and his tall, thin wife were preparing for bed, unbeknownst to them, their sixteen year old nephew was outside their home of Number 4 Privet Drive, walking towards an abandoned park at the end of the street. The ordinary boy walked down the road, enjoying the nice wind that blew through his untidy, jet black hair.

Truthfully, the boy wasn’t quite oridnary, nor was he much of a boy anymore. In fact the sixteen year old wizard was turning into quite the young man. Not only had he endured years of abuse from his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon, but he had also seen many deaths, including his godfather’s, and he was taking it better than anyone had thought.

The boy, whose name was Harry Potter, was disliked by many and treated horribly in the non-magic world, also known as the muggle world. But in the Magical Community he was famous, but at a terrible cost. A very powerful dark wizard attempted to kill Harry when he was just a baby, he failed, but killed Harry’s parents in the process... Forcing him to live with his horrible uncle, aunt, and cousin; Vernon, Petunia, and Dudley Dursley.

Which brings us to why he was walking so fervently away from their home, he wanted to get away from the horrible vibe that he received in that house, finding sanctuary in a dormant park. Once he reached the playground he sat down in an empty, and slightly damp swing. He shivered as the wind whistled and howled through the trees, gently pushing the swing beside him.

To ward off the foreboding feeling that was creeping up his spine, Harry thought of Hogwarts, he was excited to go back, slightly worried as to how he would be getting there though.

Just as the thought crossed his mind he heard a rustling in the bush behind him. Harry gripped his wand tightly in his pocket, standing up and turning around to see who had disturbed his refuge; Images of dementors swept across his imagination, Death Eaters, the Dark Lord himself, perhaps a member of the Order, he didn’t know.

Suddeny, someone with a dark cloak emerged from the bushes and began walking towards him. Behind the shadow of the hooded-figure he heard a voice, a familiar, dodgy voice.

“Mr.Potter?!” the raspy voice questioned.

Harry stared.

“I can’t see if it’s you or not, this blasted hood is in the way!” he watched the creature lift their hood, he was not ready for who he saw.

“Professor Trelawney?!” he shouted, his tight grip on his wand loosened.

“Ah, that’s much better,” she said, looking at him, pressing her large glasses closer to her face. “Oh good, it is you Mr.Potter.”

Harry stared at the Divination teacher in front of him, wondering why on earth she was on Privet Drive. He ran a hand through his hair, his bright eyes set on the teacher, utterly baffled as to why she was at this certain park at all.

She sat down clumsily on the swing and looked up at Harry, “Something wrong, Potter?”

Harry then realized he was staring at her, his mouth agape. He blinked several times, “Professor, I was just - I don’t understand, is something wrong - Why are you here?” he stammered.

Professor Trelawney grew very serious, she adverted her eyes to the woodchips scattered across the playground, she fingered one of her beaded necklaces.

“Professor?” he asked again.

She looked up at Harry, it seemed as if she was contemplating whether or not to tell him something, she gave in, “Mr.Potter,” she began. “I had a vision.”

At these words Harry couldn’t take her seriously, considering she had ‘visions’ all the time, all of which were slightly ‘questionable’.

“I had a vision, that you my dear would meet someone new this year,” she looked around the dead park, moved her head closer to Harry, and whispered. “And experience death!”

He rolled his eyes, “Okay Professor, I’ll try to keep an eye out for the grim and my death,” he said, trying to push the sarcasm out of his voice.

Trelawney’s expression changed, she looked slightly angry, “Harry this is no joke.” It seemed as if she could see right through him. “I didn’t send an owl because this was so important. Listen boy, you aren’t the one who should watch out for the grim . . . . She is.”

“Okay Professory, but who is she?” asked Harry.

”I’m not too sure, but Harry you have to remember what I’ve told you, and be careful,” Harry had never heard Professor Trelawney sound so serious before so he nodded.

“Okay.”

“Do you promise you’ll be careful?”

“Yes P-Professor,” he nodded again.

“Good, now I must go, Dumbledore’ll be expecting me.”

And with that Professor Trewlaney disappeared into the shrubbery, away from Harry.

Feeling slightly confused, and very groggy, he headed back for Number 4 Privet Drive, in hopes of getting some rest.

.....................................................................................................................

Harry arrived back at Privet Drive and went straight to his room. There were birthday presents waiting for him but he ignored them and decided to try and rest. He lay down, staring at the ceiling, he was very tired and just wanted to sleep. But anytime he’d try to nod off he would start thinking about Professor Trelawney he would wake up with a head ache. Finally, around three o’clock, he fell asleep.

Only three hours later he woke up, still very tired. He got out of bed, looking in a dingy mirror, he didn’t even attempt to tidy his hair. He walked into the bathroom and splashed his face with cold water in attempts to wake himself up. After patting his face dry with a towel he walked into the hall and down the stairs, hoping to take a long walk before his aunt and uncle woke up.

He hurried out of the house and began to walk down the road, thinking through everything that had happened the night before. Who could the ‘she’ Professor Trelawney had been talking about be? Was it someone he knew? Cho? Luna? Ginny? He came to an abrupt hault on the sidewalk. Hermione?

He felt sick, there was a possibilty it could be her. He would meet someone knew that year and a girl he knew would die, he couldn’t help worrying it would be Hermione. Hermione couldn’t die, not another death, not Hermione.

Harry turned a corner and kept walking. He was trying to run some more ideas of who it could be but nothing else came to mind, he was terribly convinced that he would meet someone and then Hermione would die somehow.

He walked faster and farther, having no idea where he was going, but feeling as if he needed to keep going, to get far. He knew he wasn’t going to tell either Ron or Hermione for they would probably argue about it and never come to a conclusion, only creating more stress for each of them. Harry felt extremely sick to his stomach.

After what seemed like an eternity Harry stopped, he finally decided to turn back but just as he was about to go he saw a black dog trotting across the street in the cool morning air. It stopped in front of him, growling slightly and baring it’s teeth. Harry stood frozen, was this supposed to be the Grim? Out of nowhere a fiery lettering appeared above the dog and it read: IT’S NOT FOR YOU. IT’S FOR HER. The dog barked at him then ran away.

Harry felt so confused and slightly anxious, he found all the strength he could muster and made his way back to Number 4 Privet Drive with a new weight of distress on his shoulders. The only thought that crossed his mind the entire walk home was: Would he lose Hermione too?
