Oh, The Twisted Lives We Live!

1. Chapter 1

Summary: This story takes place after the final battle with spoilers for books 1-6. The world of our friends is completely screwed up. Follow as the trio and their friends struggle to put their lives back together after the tragedies of love and war. This story is H/Hr, D/G, and R/L. Please note that the points of view change from time to time, but I do make note of it. Please R&R!

A/N: Hello! Ro10tom8os here! This story is un-beta'ed, but I am currently looking for one. I am more than willing to beta for someone else, if they would do so for me. I find it far easier to beta other people that I do myself. If you'd be interested let me know! Thanks!

Disclaimer: Yeah, as much as I'd like, I could never achieve the literary talents of JKR, so instead I twittle and twat with her tales, and make them go my way.

Oh, The Twisted Lives We Live!

Chapter 1

Ginny's POV

As soon as I open the door, I know something is wrong. It is not often that Hermione Granger comes to your door with puffy red eyes, and tear stained cheeks.

“Oh Hermione,” I said as I envelope her in a warm hug. “Come inside. I'll make you some tea, and then you tell me what's wrong, ok love?” Jesus, I sound like Mum. No, no thinking about her. No thoughts of them. I shake my head as I hear Hermione choke a strangled “Thanks, Gin.” I conjure up some tea and magic a fire in the fireplace as we sit down.

“So tell me, Hermione, what's wrong?”

“Harry,” she states and I inwardly sigh.

“What did he do now?” I ask, gearing myself up for a very long rant. I'm not disappointed

“He's just so stupid sometimes! I know he is hurting and in pain. He lost the only family he ever had, and he had to kill the darkest lord of our time as well. I doubt anyone understands the pain that he is going through, but honestly, does he have to take out his anger on those of us who still care about him? Does he not realize that all of us are hurting too? I just wish he'd open up to me. Or anyone, for that matter. He needs to talk to someone Ginny. Especially during the hearings! He can't keep bottling up his emotions like this! Why? Why, Gin, Why? Why did he have to go through all of this? Why can't he just be normal? That's all he has ever wanted.” I watch as fresh tears roll down her cheeks. I hug her as she curls into a ball, crying.

“It's ok, hon. He'll get through it. All of us will, eventually. He just needs time. For now, just talk to him. It's you he needs, you know.”

“No he doesn't,” she sniffed, “He told me today to get out and leave him alone. But I can't Ginny! I can't. I doubt I could even live life with out him.” She pauses, “I think I love him, Gin,” and with this, she starts crying again. As I comfort her, I process all of this new information. It strikes me that I don't find it odd at all. In fact, it almost seems expected. Harry and Hermione always did seem to have that extra something between them, and Hermione always seemed to care a bit too much about Harry's well being. It annoyed me to no end during Harry and my short-lived relationship. I guess I've always known. Harry and Hermione fit like the pieces of a puzzle. I laugh silently at the irony. A perfect harmony.

Draco's POV

I awake to an empty bed. Hungry after my nap, I head to the kitchen to find some food. I hear sobs coming from the sitting room and poke my head in to see Ginny holding a sobbing Hermione.

“Harry,” Ginny mouths to me. Stupid Potter. He can save the bloody Wizarding World, but can't see what's right under his bloody nose. How can someone be so damn blind? No, wait, only good thoughts about Potter. I mean Harry. Right. His name is Harry. As usual, I find my thoughts drifting back to that day at the ministry and that fateful hearing. Before I ran. Before I screwed up everyone else's lives.

Flashback

No POV

“Next Witness!” Called out Kinsley Shacklebot, the man in charge of all the Death Eater trials. “Mr. Harry Potter, for the defense.” A gasp was heard through the crowd as the Man-Who-Triumphed entered the courtroom. There had been rumors of Harry's involvement in this case, but everyone had believed that he would be speaking for the prosecution. It was quite unbelievable that this man would come to the stand to defend his arch-nemesis. (Besides old Voldie of course.)

“People of the court,” Harry began, “I have come before you to ask for the freedom of Mr. Draco Malfoy. Without his help, the Light could not have triumphed in the war. I watched as this man seated before you today stopped fighting as a Death Eater. He watched as Ginerva Weasley was struck with an unknown curse, and fell to the ground. I then saw him turn and stun the Death Eater and run to Ms. Weasley's side, and yell, “Yes father, I'll keep my promise. Watch me as I fight for the right and true side: The Light!” Malfoy then softly kissed Ms. Weasley and stood, to strip off his mask and robes, and set them afire. He turned and headed straight into the fight, stunning and immobilizing Death Eater after Death Eater. We could not have won without his help.

“You are curious about his words, no? I have evidence that an unbreakable vow was placed upon young Mr. Malfoy by his father, Lucius Malfoy, ordering him to fight for the `right and true side' during the war. I have reason to believe that it never crossed Mr. Malfoy's mind that his son would choose the Light as the side that was right to fight for. Unfortunately, neither Lucius Malfoy nor the castor, the late Bellatrix LeStrange, are here to agree or disagree with this statement, but I'm sure Malfoy here could help us.” Harry stopped and looked expectantly at the frightened young man.

“How- how did you know?” the young blonde stuttered, obviously astonished that someone believe in his innocence.

“Yes, how did you find this out?” asked Kinsley not unkindly.

Harry smiled to himself and answered, “Dumbledore is a great man, and ever after death I am his man, through and through.” And with an encouraging smile to Draco, Harry turned on his heel and left the courtroom to a stunned silence.

End Flashback

Draco's POV

A thin pained smile spreads across my face as I think about the day. I guess you could say that it was the beginning of the end. If only things hadn't gotten so complicated so quickly. Things could be so different for all of us. So much better… And Ginny and I could… and Potter and Granger would still be... No. I've ruined too much already. I am shaken out of my reverie by a knock on the front door. I take a look at my preoccupied girlfriend, and go over to the door to open and find a winded and very distressed Harry Potter.

A/N: So that's the end of chapter 1. I know its short, but I couldn't pass up the cliffy. I have another chapter already written, but I'd love some critique!

Thanks!
