Harry Potter and the Prophecy of Light and Dark

Disclaimer- I don't own Harry Potter and never will. Well I'm going through and fixing all the chapters up. So I hope they're a bit more readable now!

Chapter One-Passing the Past

An owl flew over the house tops of Privet Drive, finally soaring down into an open window of number four. It landed with a thump upon a bed, a bed on which a teenage boy was lazed on, he had a head of unruly black hair, covering his eyes. Eyes which showed many emotions, death and loneliness, eyes that were full of disturbing memories of his family and friends. Family that was gone and never to return, friends who would never understand how he felt. His name was Harry Potter, the boy who lived, and possibly the boy who was a show-off, disturbed and a liar. Harry had read these things in the Daily Prophet, a Wizarding news paper, which he got every morning to see if any disturbances had occurred or if anyone had written about him once again.

The owl pecked Harry's hand, interrupting him from his deep thoughts; he sat up and realized it was his owl, Hedwig, her snowy white feathers gleaming in the light. Harry reached and slowly untied the parchment on her scaly talons; once it was removed she flew over to the cage perched upon a desk, to replenish her thirst. Harry unrolled the parchment, recognizing Hermione's neat writing.

Dear Harry

I realize you must feel awful about what happened last year, but I will repeat myself once again, it wasn't your fault! It wasn't anybodies fault except Bellatrix Lestrange's. She's the one that took Sirius's life, but he wasn't the only one who loved you Harry, everybody does, including me. Now, we are all returning to the place we went last year, I will not say incase this is intercepted, you should hear from somebody soon I expect. So please don't blame yourself, and remember, you are not alone, you are not unloved, we are here for you and always will be!

Love Hermione

Harry read then reread her letter, before placing it down; he realized once again she was right. It was Bellatrix Lestrange who took Sirius from him, she had to pay. A surging pang of anger bubbled inside of Harry, she would pay, she would pay for taking Sirius from him, if it was the last thing he'd do. Harry walked wistfully over to his desk and scraped around for a piece of parchment and quill, he found some and grabbed a quill which was hiding under one of his many books and started to write a letter to Hermione in return.

Dear Hermione

Thank you for saying that, I now know that believing that it was my fault was wrong, but I felt as if Sirius was my father, it felt as if I had lost my dad all over again. I can't wait to see you and everyone once again, and am glad I will be leaving to be with people who actually like me and want me. Thank you again.

Love Harry

Harry checked and rechecked the letter, making sure there were no mistakes; he then called to Hedwig who climbed out of her cage and landed joylessly on Harry's outstretched arm.

“Take this to Hermione, ok?” Hedwig hooted in understandment, and flew out of the window, slowly becoming a black dot on the horizon. Harry made his way back to his bed, his heart immensely lighter than it had been all summer. He had been back from Hogwarts for a few weeks, hearing nothing from Dumbledore or any other Order members except Lupin, who wrote to him a couple of times saying to not blame himself, and to keep out of trouble.

The sky became steadily darker, allowing Harry to sleep, dreaming of a bushy-haired, brown eyed someone. He jerked awake in the morning, not knowing what had awoken him, he soon found out as he got another sharp pack from an owl sitting on hi bed. He groped around in the morning light and soon found his glasses; he slipped them on and noticed not only one owl but five owls. One was his own snowy owl Hedwig, but also Pig, Ron's owl, and three school barn owls. He reached for Hedwig removing the letter and package from her leg, it was from Hermione.

Dear Harry

Happy Birthday! You are most welcome; it was nothing but the truth. I hope you like your present, I thought it might be useful, guess what! I got my OWLS! Have you? I got seventeen out of sixteen for extra credit! I can't wait to see you again.

Love Hermione

Harry's heart jumped, in one of the next letters was his OWL results, he wondered what he what have gotten as he unwrapped Hermione's gift. It was another book, but the author caught his attention, `Merlin'. The book was written by Merlin it was named `Magic through the Ages, Defense through the Decades'. He sat it on his desk, advancing on to Pig, he tore open the parchment, reading Ron's untidy scrawl.

-Harry

Happy Birthday mate! I know it's been hard, but you have to move forward, one step at a time. Enjoy your birthday, and hope to see you soon.

-Ron

He opened the small package after setting the letter down, it was more candy, and some merchandise from Fred and George, products that they had created themselves. The next one was from Hagrid, Hogwarts game keeper and teacher; he sent a small note saying he would give him his present at school, something about it being too big. He rounded on the next owl; it was the usual Hogwarts letters telling him about the train and the book list. That left one more letter. He reached out and removed the official looking envelope of the leg. It had an emblem at the top of two wands crossing. It was from the Ministry of Magic. Harry opened the letter carefully, pulling out the yellowed parchment inside. It was written in bright red ink, he read it nervously.

Harry dropped the parchment in surprise. There had to be a mistake! How could he have achieved that many OWLs when many of them had been disrupted or his mind had been too busy to concentrate. Bending he scooped up the letter and scanned it three more times. There was no mistake. His name had been printed clearly and correctly. His heart was beating inside his ribcage as a joy began to spread through him. He hadn't felt so happy since the previous year, before Sirius had died. Passing his OWLs meant he qualified for Auror Training and was able to follow in his father's footsteps. This had been Harry's real dream. If he was able to be an Auror he would be allowed to help the Wizarding World without being told he was too young or inexperienced. He would be able to capture Dark Wizards and lock them away.

Just as he was about to scribble a note back to Hermione, a blood curdling scream caused him to drop the letter for a second time. The scream had unmistakably belonged to his aunt, and it sounded as if she was in trouble. Grabbing his wand, Harry bolted from the room and down the stairs. Turning into the kitchen Harry was unable to see what had caused his aunt to scream. Dudley was standing upon the table in front of him, blocking the view. Petunia was clutching a broom in her bony fingers, staring at something with terrified eyes. Harry clenched his wand tighter and edged around Dudley. The sight that befell him almost caused him to collapse.

Upon the once clean kitchen floor was an extremely dirty dog. Blood and mud had splattered the tiles from its mattered black coat. Patches of hair had been ripped out, revealing deep gashes in its skin, spilling scarlet blood out over its body. Harry's eyes had caught with the creatures own. They were extremely familiar, yet impossible. As Harry stared at the large bear-like dog before him it barked a bark that Harry had heard many times before. Harry fell to his knees, his wand cluttering to the ground. Before him was a sight Harry thought he'd never again set his eyes on. A single word escaped his lips.

“Sirius?”
