Chapter 2-Sirius's Story

“Sir…Sirius?” The dog now had put his paws on Harry's shoulders, a grin evident on his hairy face. Sirius let out a sort of yelp, his brown eyes bore into his own green ones, showing pain and happiness.

“You!” Screamed Petunia, her voice shaky and full of fear, “You brought, that, that beast into my home, endangering my family!” Her face was pale, but a red had crept into her face, clearly stating anger.

“Get OUT, OUT!” She brandished her broom, swooping at Sirius, Harry backed out, and up the stairs, the dog trotting behind him, inside his room, he could here his aunt thumping up the stairs, “GET IT OUT OF THIS HOUSE THIS INSTANT!” She yelled banging on the door, but Harry had locked it, forcing her to retreat back to the kitchen, he turned and faced his god father, who was supposed to be dead.

“You can change now Sirius, but how are you here, I seen you fall through the veil, everyone said you were dead!” The form of a man transformed in front of his eyes, leaving no trace of fur to be seen. Sirius was in bad condition, he had cuts and bruises covering his face, arms and legs. His normally healthy looking hair was dull and matted; sticking in clumps of what Harry presumed was blood. He looked at Harry an enormous grin spread across his scarred face.

“Sirius how'd, what….where'd, sit down, come and sit down.” Harry stood up allowing Sirius to sit down, the grin still present on his face. Harry wore a worried look on his own face as Sirius winced as he put pressure on his ribs.

“What's up Harry, looked like you've seen a ghost!” Harry looked at his godfather, finally realizing that he was finally back, but his happiness soon turned to concern as the thought occurred to him that this might not actually be Sirius but a death-eater. Sirius must have read his mind because at that precise moment he let out a snort of laughter.

“Harry, your dad's animagus form is a stag; your patronus is a stag, there is an Order of the Phoenix, and the house elf in my home is named Kreacher, that little mongrel.” A grin spread across Harry's face, it was Sirius, not many people knew that his patronus form was a stag, or that his father's animagus animal was a stag also. Harry finally had his best friend back, his god father and the closest thing to a father he's ever had, had come back to him.

Sirius had a pained expression on his face; Harry told him he'd go get some warm water. On the way back he spotted his aunt staring at him from the bottom of the stairs, a look of pure disgust on her face, even though she had been friendlier to him then she had ever been, now she looked as if she wanted no more than to kick him out the door and never see him again. Inside his room, after shutting and locking his door, he glanced over at Sirius who was sprawled across Harry's bed, fast asleep, Harry smirked at him as he walked over to the bed with the water and cloth.

After he'd finished cleaning the wounds on his god-fathers face, he decided to give him a hair-cut, since it was mattered and filthy. As soon as Harry pulled out his scissors and reached for some of the black hair, Sirius stirred, he opened his eyes just as the scissors passed by his eyes. He sat up so quickly and suddenly, it scared Harry so badly he jumped backwards, spilling the bloody water onto the floor and flinging the scissors into the air, he just managed to move out of the way as they hurtled back down, landing on the carpet with a snip. Sirius realized what Harry was about to do and laughed heartily.

“Where you about to cut my precious mane? No one touches my hair, but I think I'll leave it to Molly to cut it, that's if I want it cut, no offence, Harry.” Harry slowly recovered pulling himself to his feet, and looked at Sirius once again. Apart from the scratches and bruises Harry had cleaned up, he looked the same, but his clothes hung loosely around his body, the same clothes he had on the day in the Department of Mysteries. Harry finally mustered up his courage to ask the question that had been plaguing him all day.

“Sirius what happened? Where'd you go?” Sirius looked at him a few seconds before taking a deep breath, and moving a bit to let Harry sit down. Harry walked over to the bed and took a seat next to him, listening intently for an answer.

“Well I suppose it starts with the Veil. It is a portal to the other realm, the death realm. No one has come back alive from it before, it is home to not only the souls of the dead, but horrible creatures, Harry, more terrible than you could ever imagine. When I fell I met the spirits of your parents, my friends, they guided me through that place. But they weren't allowed to do that, mortals or living people weren't allowed in that realm. So I was on the run, the creatures there attacked me, forcing me to run more. I couldn't stop every where I looked there was pain, they tried to drive me insane. Giving me visions of you dying, Harry, they gave me visions of the world turning to the hands of Voldemort, there was so much pain. I was in there for a couple of days I figured since there wasn't day or night. I finally turned into a dog, running through the gloom. Animals weren't supposed to be there, they can't exist in there, so when I changed into my animal form, I slowly faded, not existing. When I came visible once more I didn't know where I was, it was dark, raining. I traveled through the nights, your face keeping me alive. I scavenged food from muggle bins in my dog form, finally ending up here. I tried to get to you, but that wretched woman downstairs tried to swat me away with a broom, a broom! That's when you showed up,” Sirius's eyes were glowing brilliantly as he looked down at his godson. Harry looked impressively up at the man before him, a deep warmness filling his heart.

“I'm glad your back Sirius, I never know what I would've done without you,” Harry leaned towards Sirius and hugged him, Sirius returned it in a fatherly way, Harry finished and pulled away, “Well I better write to Dumbledore and tell him your alive!” Said Harry joyously, getting of the bed and strolling over to his bed.

“You don't mind if I have a little sleep do you Harry, I've walked a lot today, and haven't slept for at least a month.” He lied down upon the bed and closed his eyes. Harry smiled as he answered him, “Not at all, sleep all you want!” He turned back to the parchment in front of him.

Dear Professor Dumbledore

Sirius turned up today, he's alive, but a bit beat up. Will you be able to organize for us to get out of here?

From Harry

He gave the letter to Hedwig who was nestled on her cage; the other owls had taken flight some time before hand. She clasped the letter in her beak and was about to soar out of the window, when Harry stopped her, he took another three pieces of parchment and scribbled on two of them the same thing:

Sirius is alive!

He gave them to Hedwig as well saying they were for Ron and Hermione, he wrote on the other parchment something for Lupin.

Dear Moony

Sirius turned up today, he's alive, but a bit hurt. Hope to see you soon!

Love Harry

He gave the final letter to his snowy owl and told her it was for Moony, she hooted understandably, and soared out of the window, following the path the other owls had taken. Her outline slowly became a dot, as the dot slowly faded, leaving a sky void of life. Harry turned back to his bed; Sirius was still asleep, the bed covers pulled up over his body leaving a bumpy form under the sheets. Harry smiled the first real smile all summer, everything was back to normal for him, he had Sirius back and had his friends waiting for him some where. He couldn't wait to leave this place with his godfather to another life, a life in which he was known and wanted, a place where he actually had a life.
