Chapter 3-Midnight Wanderings

Harry awoke to the sound of footsteps. He shifted slightly, something sliding of his shoulders. He was sitting on the floor, a blanket around his legs. He pulled it off and stood up yawning, it was night outside, and stars were shining in the sky. He glanced over to his clock; it was 12:01am. He looked at his bed, the sheets were pulled up rather roughly, Sirius wasn't to be seen, his door stood ajar and the sound of running water met his ears, he walked out of his room and down to the bathroom, the shower was running and someone was singing pretty hoarsely. It was Sirius, Harry wondered why the Dursley's hadn't woken up, as his thoughts were running through his head the shower stopped running, but the singing continued, ringing through the tiled walls in the bathroom. The door opened and steam gushed through, causing Harry's glasses to become fogged, he rubbed them quickly and stared at the man in front of him. Sirius was standing there with a towel wrapped around his waist; he was carrying a bundle of black rags in his arms and a very happy grin across his face.

“Have a nice sleep Harry?” He said happily strolling lightly across the floor singing the song once more. Harry ran up beside him and held his hand over his mouth hissing him to shut up. Sirius pulled it away.

“Relax Harry; I put a silencing charm over their rooms so they couldn't here anything. Sorry I didn't put it on yours, but I thought you'd slept enough. Your owl came back with a letter from Dumbledore saying that he'd be here in a few hours, so I thought I'd freshen up. Do you have any clothes that are big enough for me?” He asked walking back into Harry's room, followed by a relieved Harry.

“Umm……I don't know. My uncle might, but his would be too big, seeing his shape and all.” A grin spread across his face as Sirius laughed again.

“It's ok, I'll just repair and clean these,” He pointed to the clothes in his arms, “They'll do until I get home.” He walked in and performed a tricky sort of spell on the robes, they immediately became mended where the rips had been, and some of the stains and marks vanished.

Harry suggested that he'd go downstairs and cook something for breakfast. He walked down to the kitchen and began to make breakfast for himself and Sirius, when his godfather appeared in the door way wearing the same robes he fixed. Harry served out the bacon, eggs and toast about ten minutes later, Sirius scoffed it down while Harry ate slowly. They cleared up, Harry went upstairs to pack and get ready, Sirius decided to help with the packing since there wasn't anything better to do.

Some time later Harry was ready, everything was packed, and he had changed. Sirius was busy looking at the photo album of Harry's parents, when an owl arrived at the window; it had the Daily Prophet clamped in its beak. Harry payed it and sat down on his bed to read the paper. Harry's face lit up as he spotted the picture on the cover and read the headline and article. The face of Sirius looked up grinning on the front page, he seemed to be celebrating.

Sirius Black: Murderer or Maraulder?

Sirius Black the convicted murderer of Peter Pettigrew and some muggles, was released of all charges today, as the body of Pettigrew was found somewhere near London today, his death unknown.

“We found the body early last night around seven o'clock. There were no witnesses around. The founding of the body means that Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, was truthful in his words, saying many timed that he was put away for something he did not commit.” Says Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge,

“Nobody knows the where-abouts of Black, but hopefully he will except out apologies and return to the Wizarding community.”

Black was accused of selling out his best friends, Lily and James Potter to you-know-who, as he was there secret keeper, also. But those claims have been lifted as well, as we have found out that it was Pettigrew who done these things, not Black and it should have been him in Azkaban. No one knows how Black escaped from the wizardry prison two years ago, that remains a mystery as does his location now.

Harry sat the paper down too shocked to talk; he stared blankly at Sirius, who finally looked up at Harry. He spotted the photo of himself, and his grin vanished.

“Is there something about me in there?” Harry couldn't answer as Sirius stood up and took the paper from him. Sirius's face lit up once again as he read on, the grin returning to twice its original size. He dropped the paper in amazement. He stared at Harry; they stared at each other for a minute or so before Sirius spoke.

“Do you know what this means?” He asked Harry his face still filled with delight, Harry nodded aware of what he was about to say, “I'm cleared. You can come live with me. I'm your legal guardian properly. I can't believe this. They finally find out Dumbledore's been telling the truth when they all think I'm dead.” Harry started laughing, he couldn't help it, he was so happy, soon enough Sirius started cracking up too, they both stood there laughing for ages, but were interrupted.

There were several loud pops in Harry's room, and it soon became crowded. In his room were Dumbledore, Lupin, Tonks, Moody and Mr. and Mrs. Weasley. They all gasped as they looked at Sirius and Harry. They all rushed forward shaking his hands; Harry stood back but was soon being hugged by Mrs. Weasley, then Lupin, then soon everyone was shaking his hand, or hugging him. Sirius retold his story, then showed everyone the newspaper article, there were many shocked looks among the faces, but there were congratulations being given out to Sirius and Harry. They talked for a while, before Dumbledore pulled out an old piece of parchment from his cloak. He did this charm on it so quickly Harry didn't know what he said.

“I've turned this into a portkey. Now Harry have you got your stuff,” When Harry nodded he continued in the same slow, understanding voice, “Good I will leave a note for you relatives Harry, now crowd around, moody could you please get Harry's things.” Moody limped over and got Harry's trunk and Hedwig's cage and returned to his spot around the paper.

“On the count of three, touch the paper now,” Everyone reached out a finger and placed it on the parchment. Dumbledore started counting, Harry's stomach lurched as he remembered the last time he took a port-key, and it was when he was returning from the Ministry, thinking Sirius was dead. He clenched his eyes shut as he felt the familiar pull behind his navel.
