Chapter 2: The Trial
Hermione got up and looked at the clock that was on the bedside table, she was sleeping in Harry’s bed, the one that he occupied whenever he was here, all of them had their own room as they were getting older and they all wanted their privacy. Arthur, gladly, extended the house to fix everyone in it so it made it easier.
Hermione sighed when she realized that it was nine o’clock and she buried her face back into the pillow. She had the trial today and she wasn’t happy about seeing Krum again, she remembered how everyone reacted when they found out that Harry had grabbed Krum’s head and bashed it against the wall, she felt her heart break for him whenever she thought about it. Ron told her that he lost in it the rage of the moment and just smashed it; Hermione remembered their conversation when Harry told her that he wanted to do something to make Krum stay away from her.
“Hermione?” Molly asked as she stepped into the bedroom, Hermione sighed and smiled as she turned to face Molly.
“Hey mom,” Hermione greeted, Her and Harry got gotten used to being with them all the time and the fact that they were like family to them, they’ve started calling Molly and Arthur mom and dad, Dumbledore and Minerva Grandparents while Sirius and Lupin were uncle, Snape, however, refused to be apart of something as childless as that but Harry and Hermione had been secretly being calling him Uncle Grump because he reminded them of Grumpy in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
“Hey Honey, how are you feeling today?” Molly asked as she sat down on the bed and Hermione sat up.
“A little nervous but I suppose that’s expected.” Hermione said and Molly nodded.
“Yes it is, it’s not easy telling everyone what you’ve been through, especially when you want to forget it.” Molly said and kissed Hermione’s forehead. “Come down and have some breakfast if you feel up to it okay?” Molly asked and Hermione nodded.
Molly left the room and sighed sadly, Hermione was disappearing before their eyes, she hadn’t been eating since Harry had pushed her away, she knew that Harry wasn’t eating as well as Petunia had contacted Dumbledore to let him know, Dumbledore had told Molly which upset her even more, she knew that the two of them loved each other and hated it that Harry felt he had to push Hermione away in order to keep her safe, it broke her heart to see her adopted children like this and wondered what to do.
“Oh Lily, James, how I wish you were here to help Harry, to make him see that it wasn’t his fault.” Molly whispered, looking toward the sky.
Harry woke up, he was in the Leaky Cauldron and he looked around till his eyes located his clock, it read nine thirty and he sighed, the trial was on in an hour and a half, he needed to get ready in order to get there in time to give his view on things. He sighed as he sat up and looked toward the mirror. His glasses were gone, he decided to go with contacts this year instead of his glasses because they kept breaking, these weren’t normal muggle contacts, these contacts could only be removed when he wanted them to, he didn’t need to take them out at night then put them back in, in the morning which made him happy so he didn’t have to fuss over it. He got out of bed and walked toward the adjoining bathroom and stepped under the shower spray to try and forget about the day ahead of him.
Tom was working at the counter when the bell went, he saw Arthur, Molly, Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, Ron, Ginny, and Hermione. He gulped slightly as he looked toward the stairs. He remembered what Harry had told him the first night he arrived.
Harry turned up at Diagon Alley and looked around, he sighed when he spotted the Leaky Cauldron and hurried over to it, making sure that he wouldn’t be spotted by anyone.
He hurried in and walked over to Tom.
“Hey Tom, can I book a room for two weeks?” Harry asked and Tom nodded.
“Sure thing Harry, anything else?” Tom asked and Harry nodded.
“Can you please make sure that no one knows I’m here and I mean no one, not the Weasley or Hermione or any of the teachers please?” Harry asked, his green eyes begging with Tom’s Brown ones; Tom nodded with a confused look.
“Sure thing Mr. Smith, I will take your stuff upstairs.” Tom said with a wink and Harry sighed with relief as he followed Tom to his room.
“Lo Tom, can we have a couple of rooms?” Arthur asked and Tom nodded.
“Sure thing, how long?” Tom asked.
“Till tomorrow, we are only here for the trial.” Arthur said and Tom nodded as he grabbed a key and handed it to Arthur.
“There you go, room 19, 20, and 21.” Tom said and the gang trooped up the stairs to their rooms.
Harry came down a few minutes later and noticed that Tom was beckoning him.
“What’s up?” Harry asked.
“The Weasley and Hermione is here, they’ve booked a room till tomorrow so I suggest you stay out of sight while they are here.” Tom said and Harry looked toward him with a relief and thankful glance.
“Thanks for the heads up.” Harry said as he left the pub and walked toward a phone booth, he pressed in the number.
“Hello? How may I help you?” a female voice asked.
“Harry Potter for the Viktor Krum Trial, here as a witness.” Harry spoke.
“One moment please.” She replied and a tag came out of the change box, Harry pinned it on and hung up the phone as the phone booth disappeared out of sight into the ground.
Harry walked out of the phone booth and walked down the corridors till he reached the room.
“Court Room, Viktor Krum trial.” The door screamed and Harry rolled his eyes as he grabbed the handle and twisted it to let himself in. Harry walked in and a lawyer came up next to him.
“Mr. Potter! I’m representing Miss Granger, when shall I call you up?” He asked and Harry thought about it.
“Call me up last that way no one would be convinced that I’m just doing this to get attention please, I have an errand to run so you can contact me by using this,” Harry said as he handed the lawyer a coin “You call my name into the coin before it’s my time and my coin will tell me that it is ready to come.” Harry explained and the lawyer nodded as he took the coin.
“Sure thing Mr. Potter.” He said and walked off toward the other lawyer. Harry sighed and heard the door open from the other end of the room, his breath caught when he saw Hermione step in, she was wearing a light blue skirt and a white shirt while wearing high heels, she looked gorgeous. He shook his head and hurried out of the room before she had the chance to notice that he was there.
Hermione was sitting next to the lawyer as Krum was sitting at the other table while both lawyers attacked the witness for any weakness or lies. Soon it was time.
“Your witness?” The judge asked Hermione’s lawyer and he looked up.
“I call to the stand, Mr. Harry James Potter!” He exclaimed and everyone gasped while Hermione froze.
Harry walked in with a determined strode and sat in the witness box. The guard stepped up with a book of old magic (It was like a bible to them).
“Do you swear to tell the truth, nothing but the whole truth under the eyes of the people and Merlin?” The guard said and Harry nodded.
“I swear.” Harry stated.
“You may sit down and please state your full name for the people.” The guard said as he stepped away. Harry sat down.
“I’m Harry James Potter.” Harry said and Krum’s lawyer came forward.
“So Mr. Potter, is it true that you and Miss Granger use to have a relationship?” he asked with a greasy smile, remembering the article that was written by Rita Skeeter.
“No it isn’t, me and Hermione never saw each other that way and I don’t really have time for a girlfriend right now as I’m too busy with Voldemort.” Harry stated firmly and everyone gasped.
“Order!” the judge commanded, banging the gravel.
“Okay, please tell everyone what did you see and hear about Miss Granger accusation about Mr. Krum attacking her.” He said with a smirk, knowing that he had no proof what so ever.
“Hermione didn’t contact me or anyone of the Weasley to let us know that she was okay, that when we began to get worried, Ginny was the first one to see her and noticed that Hermione had changed, she wasn’t the same person she used to be and frankly it worried us. After we arrived at Hogwart, she was scared when a letter came and I noticed it was from Krum, she was scared, and it confused me, as there wasn’t anything threatening in the letter. After we found out that Krum was coming to Hogwart for a visit, Hermione had a panic attack and whenever one of us went near her, she thought we were going to hit her, which increased our concern for her. I found through a letter of a player who was on the same team as Krum and he confirmed our suspicious.” Harry said and the lawyer nodded.
“So I’m guessing you didn’t really see it?” He asked and Harry nodded.
“I did, I witness Krum hitting Hermione, he had grabbed her by the hair and threw her into a wall, I even saw the cuts and bruises that was on her back and arms.” Harry said and the lawyer was gob smacked, Krum hadn’t told him that! He turned to the other lawyer.
“Your witness.” He snapped and the other one stood up.
“So you and Hermione are good friends?” he asked and Harry nodded, not looking at Hermione at all, fearing that his resolve would weaken. “How long?” He asked.
“Nearly seven years now.” Harry said and the lawyer nodded.
“So you know if Hermione is lying or not?” he asked and Harry nodded.
“Yes because Hermione sucks at lying and why would she have to lie about Krum, there was nothing she could have benefit from it.” Harry stated and the lawyer nodded with a smile.
“I agree with you Mr. Potter. You may step down.” The lawyer said and Harry nodded as he turned to the judge and whispered in his ear. The judge looked at Harry stunned as Harry got off the seat and walked toward the back of the room.
“We are now going to administer the Veritaserum to Viktor Krum.” The judge said and Krum was stunned as the guard led him up to the stand and the other one placed the Veritaserum in his mouth. Krum instantly went slack.
“Can you please state your name for the people?”
“Viktor Krum.” Viktor replied.
“Have you been abusing Hermione, torturing her parents and kidnapped her in order to deliver her to You-Know-Who?” The guard asked.
“Yes, I have been and I enjoyed it knowing that she was under my thumb and I could do what I pleased with her, I kidnapped her in order so my master could get the power from the dragon of hell that he wished for but Harry had stopped it, he fought with my master and weakened him, My master left me behind to finish off Harry but it didn’t work.” Krum said and everyone was out raged.
“Order!” The judge shouted as he banged the gavel once more, he looked toward the people who were staring at Krum with utter disgust.
“Have we come to a verdict?” The judge asked and the leader looked toward everyone, they all nodded. He turned back.
“Guilty!” He snapped.
“All in favors?” the judge asked.
“AYE!” they all shouted.
“Guard, please escort the prisoner to the cell where he will spend 10 to 15 years for the abusive of a girl, tortured and kidnapping along with working for the dark side.” The judge said and banged the gavel once more. The guards escorted Krum down to the cell where he was fighting to get freed.
Everyone hurried over to Hermione and pulled her into a hug, she was overwhelmed, she was free of Krum forever and everyone was delighted.
Hermione managed to pull herself away from everyone and ran out of the door into the corridor where she saw Harry leaving.
“Harry!” Hermione shouted and she saw Harry stop in his tracks and stiffen, she walked up behind him. “I just wanted to say thank you, you know, for what you did in there.” Hermione said and Harry shrugged.
“It was no big deal.” Harry said, refusing to turn around. Hermione got impatience.
“Harry can you please just look at me?” Hermione demanded and Harry sighed, he turned to face her.
“Listen, nothing changed, it’s still not safe.” Harry said and Hermione shook her head.
“You are wrong, I’m in danger if I’m with you or without you.” Hermione snapped and Harry looked at her.
“You have less chance of being kill when you are not with me.” Harry snapped back.
“Harry I love you! Okay? That’s never going to change.” Hermione said with a determined gaze and Harry shook his head.
“Hermione, just back off! I may love you but I’m not going to put you in danger so just drop it!” Harry snapped and spun on his heels as he stormed out of the hallway, leaving Hermione behind.
“I will not let go Harry! You’ll let me back in soon!” Hermione shouted after him and growled in frustration as she slammed her fist into the wall.
Harry walked out and slammed his fist into the wall.
“I can’t let you in!” Harry muttered angrily and looked around before he apparated right out of there.
