That night, the same three were huddled under James's cloak, heading towards the suit of armor that was the opening to Trimble's rooms. "Vampire's blood." Sirius said, and they entered the tunnel. Lily wanted to turn back, but James and Sirius wouldn't. They finally found themselves in Trimble's office/living room/bedroom. They walked over to the shelf, and James quietly got the whale pancreas. Lily looked at the sleeping Trimble. She noticed he had a nasty looking tattoo of a skull on his arm, but before she could examine it carefully Sirius and James dragged her out. "What's your problem Lily?" Sirius asked.
"I was trying to see his tattoo. It's really nasty looking." Lily said.
"All tattoos are nasty looking." James said with disgust.
"No they're not. Not all, just most." Lily said.
"Yes they are. It's degrading." James said.
"No it's not. Just obscene ones are degrading."
"NO. They are all degrading."
"Do you have a problem with tattoos?"
"What's your first clue?"
"Can we quit arguing about tattoos and go to sleep?" Sirius asked with exasperation.
"Sure." Lily said, and they went back to their dormitories, where James put the whale pancreas under his bed. The next evening they mixed the potion in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom. Sirius and Peter ended up watching because the potion was so complex only Lily and James understood it. A few days after that they were back in defense against the dark arts, learning about the wizard who was gaining power, known as simply as You-Know-Who, or something of the sort. "...and on the upper right arm of every follower of the dark lord, is a skull with a snake for a tongue. Here's a picture." Trimble said, and drew a crude likeness on the board. Lily gasped.
"Miss Evans, is there a problem?" Professor Trimble queried.
"No, no. None at all. I just choked on my chewing gum." Lily said.
"Okay, if that's all." He said. Lily shuddered. Trimble had the coldest eyes she had ever seen. Eyes without normal human feelings of joy, love, and hope. Instead his silver eyes housed cynicism, hate, and anger. When they got out of class James asked, "What was your problem in there? You weren't even chewing gum."
"Trimble has the dark mark on his arm. That's the tattoo I saw on his arm the other night!" Lily said in a low voice.
"Secrets don't make friends Miss Evans." Trimble said, walking up behind them. "Oh? I wasn't telling a secret." Lily said sweetly.
"Then I'm sure you won't mind repeating what you said."
"I was just telling James how much I adore him. That kind of stuff should be kept private, don't you agree?" Lily said in an innocent voice.
"I doubt that, but I'll let it slide. It seems that you've got the entire staff of this school kissing the ground you walk on, but I know better. I'm keeping my eye on you Evans." Trimble said and walked off.
"Prick." Lily muttered to his retreating back.
"Watch the language, Miss Evans." Serenity said in a mocking voice coming up behind them.
"Oh, hi Serry." Lily said.
"Lil, don't forget, you need to explain something to me tonight." Serenity said. "What? Oh. Okay." Lily said. She was supposed to explain the whole Sinnient thing and how she felt about James to Serenity tonight. It was a Friday night so that meant, SLUMBER PARTY!
"Don't forget what you're supposed to bring, Serry." Lily said.
"I won't, I'll see you then. I'm off to Muggle Studies."
"What's she supposed to bring?" James asked.
"Duh. All the 3 essentials for a slumber part. A, food, B, candy, C, soda." Lily told him.
"Sounds very, uh, unnutritious." Remus said.
"That's the best part. You know it's not healthy, but who cares?" Lily said laughing, as they went to transfiguration. That night Lily was waiting for Serenity in the common room. She was playing chess with James to kill time. This was a spectator sport for the rest of the marauders, because James and Lily were both killer chess players. They were nearly impossible to beat separately, so it was always a long game when they played each other. All of a sudden, the portrait hole opened, and in came a ladened Serenity. She was pulling a wagon.
"What are you doing?" Sirius asked.
"I couldn't carry all this food on my own. I transfigured a wagon." Serenity answered. The boys started poking around in it, and discovered four bags of cheese popcorn, three of butter popcorn, two bags of chips with five containers of dip, a dozen cupcakes, a chocolate pie, and a gallon carton of no-melt icecream. Of course, forks, spoons, plates and cups were also there.
"You forgot the drinks." James pointed out.
"Nope, that was my department." Lily said.
"What'd you get?" Serentiy asked.
"Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew, Pepsi, marshallow creme for the Pepsi, root beer, Sprite, and of course, orange pop." Lily answered.
"I see why neither of you ate supper." Peter said.
"We were planning ahead." Serenity laughed. Lily and Serenity disappeared into the girls dorm, with the food, much to Sirius's regret.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" James asked.
"Oh, yes." Sirius answered with a gleam in his eye.
Meanwhile, Lily had started eating the chocolate pie, while Serenity went after some cupcakes.
"Okay, now spill about this stuff about not needing a wand." Serenity said. Lily explained as much as she thought was safe.
"That's so cool." Serenity said, with a thoughtful expression on her face. "Now, I really wanna hear about this new development with James. You act different since the camp."
"Okay, now be ready James. It will probably take Remus and me five more minutes." Sirius said as James was donning the invisibility cloak.
"Got it. Make sure you give me at least five minutes." He went to crouch just behind the door to the fourth year girls dorm. Out of curiosity he leaned his ear against it to listen to their conversation.
"Ohhh, you would have to bring that up, wouldn't you?" Lily groaned.
James winced, apparently he wasn't one of Lily's favorite topics.
"Well,I just figured out how I feel about him this summer while he was gone. I love him." Lily said
"I thought as much. I don't know why you're so reluctant about it! You two are so perfect for each other!" Serenity said.
"Think about it Serry. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out. Do you honestly think a fourteen year old boy would admit how he feels? That is if he even feels anything besides a remote fondness for me!" Lily said with growing agitation. James felt triumphant. He felt like dancing around the common room, shouting that Lily loved him. He didn't examine this further, except for the fact that he had mad THE Lily Evans fall in love with him. This was equal only to winning the quidditch cup. Lily looked out the window. "AAAHHHHHHH! Serenity! We have to get out of here! VAMPIRE!" Lily shouted, pulling Serenity out the room. James entered as soon as they left, to see the vampire/Sirius fly away from the window. Remus and Peter would be in the common room distracting them. James put as much of the stuff in his knapsack as possible, and snuck back out, still thinking about Lily. Fifteen minutes later Sirius, Remus, and Peter came upstairs to see the food.
"This was a great idea." Remus said.
"No kidding. I can't believe you thought of something to scare them so bad, Peter." Sirius said.
"I heard her scream clear down in the common room." Peter laughed.
"The expression on her face was priceless." Sirius laughed.
"JAMES POTTER!" Lily yelled, slamming open the door to the boys dorm, with and equally mad Serenity on her heels.
"Yes, Lily dear?" James asked, seriously being sweet. Lily gave him a look, wondering what was wrong.
"We know you stole all of our snacks. We want them back." Lily said.
"Now, how would we have gotten them?" Sirius asked.
"You." she said accusingly, "were dressed as a vampire, scared the stuffing out of me, and we ran out. One of you must have BEEN WAITING BEHIND THE DOOR?" Lily asked, her voice raising in horror as it donned on her.
"That would be James here." Peter said.
"Then you heard-" Lily said before she hit the floor in a faint.
"YOU HEARD WHAT SHE SAID?!" Serenity yelled.
"Yes." James answered, still on cloud nine. Lily's eyes fluttered open. She saw James and turned a deep shade of red. Serenity turned around and left, give James some privacy to talk to Lily if he so desired. Lily walked out too, a ways behind Serenity. James followed Lily and said, "Lily, wait."
"Yes James?" Lily asked hopefully. Maybe, just maybe.
"I just wanted to say goodnight." James said, and kissed her lightly. He didn't miss the look of sadness and disappointment in her eyes. He didn't know what he did wrong though.
I overheard a conversation, down at the diner tonight
A boy told a girl she was his whole world, and he would love her till the end of time
It reminded me of ou, and the thought went through my head, 'that wounds like something you should've said."
I took myself out to the movie, saw a man on the silver screen. Tell a woman he loved her, for just one touch he would od anything. It reminded me of you, and the thought wen tthrough my head, 'that sounds like something you should've said.'
I heard a song playing on the jukebox, a singer pouring out his soul, And every word he sang was filled with pain. That he'd ever let his lady go. It reminded me of you, and the thought went through my head, that sounds like somthing you should've said. terri clar, something you should've said.
The next morning the marauders, plus Lily and Serenity, were walking down the corridors to breakfast. They turned a corner and saw a rather interesting catfight. Over Severus Snape. A Slytherin, also Snape's ex-girlfriend(yes, it's hard to believe he had one, I know)Amber Lurchador was in a fight with Snape's current girlfriend, Cassie Bruce. They were slapping each other, pulling hair, and the whole sissy-fight scene. Everybody in Lily's group collapsed in laughter, leaning on eachother for support. As it ended up, everybody was leaning on Sirius, who was laughing the hardest.
"You like stole my boy toy!" Amber screamed.
"I like, so did not!" Cassie chirped.
"Like, yes you did!"
"Uh, like no I didn't. You, like uh, dumped him, and I like, picked up the pieces."
"You so did not!"
At the end of this dialogue, Lily and Serenity both completely lost it, and was laughing harder than even Sirius. They couldn't even hold themselves up, causing all their weight to fall on their friends. The result was a maruader dogpile in the middle of the corridor.
"That...was...the...funniest...thing...I..have...ever...seen...in...my...life!" Lily wheezed.
"What may I ask, is going on here?" Professor Trimbled asked pompously.
"We collapsed from laughing too hard." Lily said, but muttered where her friends could hear, "No, we're playing football you jackass."
James and Sirius snorted with laughter.
"I can see you're still having trouble restraining yourselves. I think a trip to the headmaster's office, and oh, say ten points from Gryffindor ought to do the trick."
"TEN POINTS!" Chorused from six people.
"Apiece. Now I'll just escort you to the headmaster's office." Trimble said, waiting on them to get up.
Everybody grumbled, but followed him to the headmaster's office.
"Cherry Mash."
They walked into his office.
"Ah, Carly, what is it that these youngsters seem to have done now?" Dumbledore inquired politely.
"They were congregating in the corridor. In a pile. On the floor."
"Why were you 'congreagaint in the corridor, in a pile, on the floor?"
"Well, you see, there was this catfight." Lily started.
"And it was between two girls. Over Severus Snape. Can you imagine?" James continued.
"Of course, this was hysterical, and we started laughing." Lily picked up.
"We were all sort of leaning on each other, until Lily and Serenity completely lost it, and made us all fall down." James said.
"And that resulted in the laughing dogpile we were found in." Lily concluded.
"Well, Carl, this doesn't sound like an offense on the part of the Gryffindors here. I believe the ones who need to be punished are those in the fight." Dumbledore said.
"BUT-"
"They haven't done anything wrong. I can't punish kids everytime they laugh. Laughter is a wonderful phenomenon. I'm through with this discussion."
"So, can we leave?" Sirius asked.
"Yes, Mr. Black, you may leave."
