Harry Potter and the End of the Prophecy

3. Chapter Three

Chapter Three

School began, and school ended. Harry walked through it like a machine. Very rarely did he have conversations with people, the only thing he did was Quidditch, and school. He kept his mind so set on those things, so that the other things he would rather not dwell on wouldn't come in. He didn't want to think about his lost friends. His lost love.

It hadn't taken long after the beginning of the school year for Harry to realize that he was in love with someone. He just hadn't realized it till she was taken away from him. Till she was ripped out of the fabric of his life. He had fallen in love with someone he now couldn't have. Someone, he could never have. He had fallen in love with Hermione Granger.

Even though Harry wouldn't talk to them. Even though Harry wouldn't even acknowledge the fact that they were even in the same room as him, Harry still loved her. It was the hardest thing he had to do. He loved her, and yet he wouldn't let himself go to her. He held himself back and kept it all bottled inside.

Despite the fact that he ignored them, he still loved them as friends. A part of Harry felt disloyal to Ron by loving Hermione. But why did he feel disloyal to a person who had forgotten he existed? Why did he feel like it was his obligation to hide his feeling because he didn't want to hurt Ron? Why? Because Harry was a better person than that. Even though he hated them, or at least that is what he told himself, despite that, he wouldn't ruin what they had for himself. He was too selfless for that. Part of the hero-complex most likely.

And then there was the most obvious reason. What were the chances that she would love him back. What were the chances that she would even remotely reciprocate the feeling? Zero. That was what the chances were. Harry knew that in his head, he knew that there wasn't a chance for her to love him. He knew.

But his feeling didn't change.

The pain that Harry had to go through over the school year was unbearable, so again, he devoted himself to something else to keep his mind off of it. Defeating Voldemort. Harry was determined to end his reign. Determined to end the pain that the man had caused. In Harry's mind, he only had one purpose left in his life. Killing Voldemort. That was why he was born, that was why he was still alive, so he had to make the best of it. It was simple. Harry was going to kill him, and at this point in his life, he didn't care if he survived the battle or not. It didn't matter. No one was going to care either way. All they wanted was Voldemort dead.

Harry trained, and trained. Alone. He worked his body to its limits. He practiced spells in the room of Requirement till he was blue in the face. He read about counter-curses, charms, and enchantments till he fell asleep on his book. It was all he did. He trained and trained, till one day he decided that he was ready.

Harry went to sleep that night, and left his mind open, knowing that Voldemort would come for him. Knowing that it was time.

“Hello Tom.” Harry said, in his usual emotionless voice.

“Harry, my dear boy, you have finally decided to let me see.” The snake like man said in his high pitched voice. The sound made Harry's skin crawl, but he ignored it.

“Yes, it is time that we finished this. Personally, I am bored, so I figured that maybe you could give me something to occupy my time with.” Harry said nonchalantly.

“If you are so ready to die.” Voldemort hissed. “Then here is where I will meet you.” That was all he said, and then the presence left Harry's mind.

Harry woke instantly, and looked around the boys dormitory. This would be the last time he would look at it, Harry knew. The chances of him surviving tonight were so small, but Harry was going to try anyway. He rose from his bed, and dressed himself. He took a look outside the window, and saw a raging storm outside. The late spring weather was in full swing.

He took his wand, he took his broom that he had kept shrunk under the bed, and he took his invisibility cloak. The last thing he did was take a small piece of parchment out of his pocket. He scrawled “Ron” on top of it, and pinned it to the door. He had prepared his note of goodbye a long time ago. Now it was time to leave.

He looked at the window, and walked over to it. With a sharp movement of his foot, he shattered it to pieces. The sound of breaking glass sounded around him, but then was lost to the sound of the storm. He threw his legs over his broom, and was gone. Rain, wind, and pain seemed to swish by him. But it didn't matter. He was probably going to die tonight, so what did it matter if he got a little wet in the process.

Thankfully though, Harry didn't have far to go. He landed in the center of the quidditch pitch, and waited. Of course it didn't take long for them to arrive. As Harry expected, the school's wards were mere butter under Voldemorts hands. He could feel them fall, and at once he could hear the resounding sounds of popping. Death Eaters appeared from everywhere. Surrounding him, and the only other person he could see at that moment.

Harry's Green eyes locked with the brilliant Red ones, and hate seemed to course through both of their bodies. Minutes passed, and no one moved. The rain just continued to fall. Then, with another pop, another Death Eater appeared. But he wasn't alone. He was carrying a person in his arms. A person with bushy brown hair.

Before that could sink in fully, another one appeared, this time also carrying a person. This time the person had vivid red hair.

Harry swore at himself in so many different ways that he lost count. Now what was he going to do? He couldn't protect his friends, and do his duty at the same time. He knew that, and with a painful tug, he knew what was going to happen, he knew what decision he was going to have to make.

“Leave them out of this Tom!” Harry yelled across the pitch. “You came here to kill me! Not them!” Harry yelled. He wasn't sure why he cared so much, but he did. These were the people that had caused him grief for over a year. These were the people who deserted him. But he still couldn't do that to his one time friends.

Tom raised his wand, and all of a sudden a bubble was placed over the four of them. Harry, Voldemort, Ron, and Hermione were the only ones inside, and it was deadly silent.

“I think it is time to hear from your friends Harry.” He hissed. With a flick of his deadly wand, his two friends awoke with a start. Looking around trying to figure out where they were. With a jolt of realization, they both saw who they were being held by. There eyes flickered around, and they saw Harry.

“Harry!” They both yelled. The sound tore Harry in half. He knew there was nothing left to do today. He couldn't save everyone. The good of the many over the good of the few. Choices had to be made. It just so happened that Harry was going to have to make them.

“Tell her what you truly feel Harry.” Voldemort said, hissing.

“What do you mean?” Hermione shrieked.

“Tell her that you love her Harry.” Voldemort again hissed. “Don't hold it back now, she is going to die today, there is no point in holding it back.”

Tears started to stream down his face, because he knew that it was true. “I love you Hermione.” Harry said. This of course, caused Ron to yell.

“You lying, evil, scumbag! You wanted her all to yourself this whole time!” Ron said, his jealousy coming out in waves.

“I'm sorry Ron. I'm sorry Hermione.” Harry whispered.

“Avada Kedevera!” Voldemort hissed. Ron fell dead.

Pain jerked Harry. He watched his friend, his near brother fall to the ground dead. His eyes still holding hatred, and despise for Harry, even though they had filmed over. The last thing Ron had said to him was how much he hated him.

“Don't you see Tom?” Harry asked, trying to keep his voice straight. “They both hate me. They aren't even my friends anymore. What is the point of trying to use them against me, if they hate me?” Harry asked.

“Harry.” Hermione said, tears rolling down her cheeks. “I love you. I knew I did the day at the train station. But you never talked to us. You never answered my mail…I couldn't tell you.” She said, in a hysterical rush. “I'm so sorry.”

Harry was stunned. Of all the things she could have said, that was the last one he expected. Shock was written all over his body, and he couldn't move. He couldn't breathe. Time stood still. It was too bad that he had gotten shocked so much, because that was what killed Hermione.

A sneer spread across Voldemorts features, and he cackled manically, as he said the magic words.

She fell dead to the ground in a heap. The look of pain, and remorse still on her face. A slight hint of what she had just said, still hidden behind her eyes. A small flicker of love was hiding behind the film of death. That's what broke Harry.

“You.” Harry said, pointing his wand at Voldemort. “Its time for you to die.”

With a crack, Harry apparated. He was behind Voldemort. “Petrificas Totalus!”

CRACK

He was to Voldemorts left. “Immoblious!”

CRACK

He was to his right. “Stupify!”

CRACK

He was back in front of the monster. Voldemort was held stock still. Bound by three different curses.

“YOUR TIME IS UP TOM!” Harry yelled. “Avada Kedavra!!!” Harry screamed. Every ounce of hate that he had for the man flew out in that one curse. The brilliance of the Green light stunned Harry, and when he could look again, he saw the burning body of the Dark lord. He fell to ashes, and they blew away, seeming to disappear on an invisible wind.

Harry fell to his knees. Tears ran down his face. Pain wracked his body. His friends were gone, and the person he loved was dead too. She had loved him. If only he hadn't pushed her away, and accepted it. Why had he been so stupid. Why? The rain fell down on him in sheets, and it was then that he realized that all the Death Eaters were gone too. Nothing was left but two bodies of Harry's only friends.
