Harry Potter and the End of the Prophecy
4. Chapter Four
Chapter Four
Harry looked around the swirling clouds all around him, and smiled a sadistic smile. His lip curled into a sneer, and his eyes narrowed, blocking the slashing wind out of his eyes. His Firebolt shuddered under him. The broom was not supposed to be this high in the air, and it was desperately trying to get him to lower himself. Of course the broom didn't know his intentions. If it did, it would be screaming at him to get out of the air. But Harry knew that he wasn't getting down until he was done with what he had come to do. He had a purpose today, and he wasn't going to let anything alter it.
The sound of the air rushing past his ears was a deafening roar. He hadn't thought it necessary to wear any of his gear. Tears stung at the edge of his eyes, they were dearly missing his goggles, but he didn't care. Maybe the pain was part of it. The air of the atmosphere chilled him to the bone, but again he didn't care. He was in a different place. Harry's body and Harry's mind were two separate beings at the moment. Miles and miles separated them, and he had no intention of closing the gap. At this point, Harry had nothing left. No feelings. No desires. No thought.
He stood on the edge of nothingness, with nothing left.
Voldemort was dead. His ashes were swirled on the wind below him. And yet, so were the two bodies of his friends. Dead. Their glazed eyes forever staring, mocking him, taunting him.
Once again. Harry had survived at the cost of others. Again, he had lost the people closest to him, while he still stood here. Alive. Harry wasn't the `Boy-Who-Lived', he was the -“Boy-Who-Just-Wouldn't-Die.” Once again, Harry had defeated the odds. He couldn't stand it anymore.
What was the point of going on while everyone he cared for was gone? What left was there for Harry to move on to? What did he have left? Nothing. There was nothing left for Harry.
The swirling air around him egged him on. One hand left the broom.
Hermione was gone.
The second hand left the broom.
Ron was gone.
He was hanging upside down by his legs.
Harry was all that was left, and he didn't want to have to live with that.
His legs let go, and Harry fell. He fell down and down. Through the swirling spring storm that had attacked the school. He fell through the pain that he had gone through in his life. He fell, and fell. Thought left him. Feeling left him. Pain left him, and that's what he was aiming for.
He knew the ground was coming up fast, and his last thought on this planet was simple.
“I'll see you soon Mom and Dad.”
And thus the Prophecy came to an end. The evil that had wracked the world an hour before was gone, but with him went the savior of them all. That was the end of the Prophecy.
