Chapter 2: The Assignment
“Harry. Harry!” shouted Ron as he shook his best friend awake.
“Wha-What?” yawned Harry as he struggled to wake.
“The meeting, it’s over, you missed Snape’s big plans for the Muggle defence thing. Honestly though, it was so boring I’m surprised I didn’t fall asleep.” Harry yawned again as he stretched and Ron looked down and smirked. “Late night with Julia Harry?”
“Yeah,” said Harry, a big goofy grin on his face, then his face became sombre. “I don’t know though, these past few months I’ve just wanted to settle down, I’m fed up of one-night-stands. I want someone to love and come home to.”
“You sound like a girl.”
“Hey you’re the one who just got married.”
“I know and didn’t I get lucky?” Ron said whist fully as he stared at the ceiling. God how he loved that woman. The way she did that thing with her tongue and when…
“Ron, earth to Ron.” Harry was waving his hand in front of Ron. “Wake up Ron.”
“Harry, I was in a very vivid daydream then.”
“I could tell,” Harry replied smirking.
“God how I love that woman Harry, it’s like the whole world stops when she walks into a room…”
Harry smiled Ron was obviously devoted to Luna, his new wife from a month ago. No-one was more surprised than Harry when he found that Ron was courting Luna, but seeing the way they reacted around each other, he couldn’t get over how he hadn’t seen it before. Luna went to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with them and she very close with Ginny, Ron’s youngest and only sister, and through Ginny, Ron met Luna and they had been inseperable since.
“Yeah, Merlin I wish I had someone like that. All I’ve ever wanted is a family.” Harry bowed his head at this. Harry was one-years-old when his parents, Lily and James Potter, were killed by Lord Voldemort who Harry later killed with the help of Ron and his headmaster.
“You have us,” said Ron, trying, in vain, to cheer Harry up. “Who could forget the Weasleys?”
Harry sighed, “It’s not the same.”
“Maybe,” replied Ron. There was a short silence. “I know, why don’t you come to mine and Luna’s tonight if you feel lonely?”
“Nah you’re newlyweds I’ll make it a DVD night or invite Julia over.”
Ron raised his eyebrows at this. “Have you showed Julia where you live yet?”
“Are you kidding? She’ll want to marry me on the spot! Hey, weren’t you supposed to meet Lune five minutes ago.”
Ron glanced at the clock on the wall. “Holy crap. I’ve got to go Harry. Luna is going to kill me!”
Harry started to laugh as Ron apparated to his house and when he left Harry sank into his chair exhausted thinking of the lonely flat that waited for him when he got home.
“Hey Potter!” shouted Harry’s arch enemy Malfoy from the door. “Good, Weasley just left I see.”
Harry sighed, “What do you want Malfoy,” said Harry as he looked up and stared at Draco. During the war against Voldemort Draco, refusing to follow his fathers footsteps, turned to the side of the light and even helped Harry to defeat him. Now Draco was married to his best friends sister, Ginny Weasley and he and Harry, though not the best of friends tolerated each other.
Draco, like Harry, was an Auror and worked in the same department as Harry and because of this, Harry and Draco were normally teamed up together to bring down the last remaining Death Eaters that had managed to slip past Harry during the battle against Voldemort.
“I need a favour,” said Draco looking his square in the eyes.
“You what?” said Harry shocked, since when had Draco turned to him for favours?
“If you keep you’re mouth open that wide you’re going to choke on a fly.”
“And pray, what does the great Draco Malfoy want with little Harry Potter?”
“There’s been killings of muggleborn prostitutes and I need you to interview one.”
“You want me to interview a muggleborn prostitute? Are you mad?”
“No, I’d do it but I have a wife and it might be necessary for you to get… lets just say get intimate with her.”
“You’ve got to be kidding. Why do the Ministry care anyway, I thought Purebloods hated muggleborns.”
“Well they do, but since Arthur Weasley has become Minister of Magic the Wizengamot have been more lenient. So lenient in fact that they don’t think it would be humane to pick up one random and question her with veritaserum.
It was my next assignment, but I can’t do it for because of Ginny and you, well you’re the ever sympathetic guy with no emotional ties. So, I asked Minister Weasley and you get to sleep with a prostitute and I get to continue to look for Bellatrix Lestrange.”
“You make it sound crude.”
“Well it is.”
Harry sighed, “I don’t know Draco, what you’re asking is pretty sick.”
“Hey you’re going to pay her, if you feel guilty just double what she normally has.”
Harry scowled at Draco and then sighed defeated. What do I have to lose anyway? “Ok I’ll do it. When do I start?”
Draco slapped Harry on the back in mock friendliness, “Knew you’d do it. You start tonight, you have two weeks. You need to get a disguise aswell, if she’s a muggleborn she’s going to have heard about you.”
“Fine. But you owe me one Malfoy and I’m only doing this because of Ginny you know, I love her like a sister, and I won’t let you cheat on her, even if it is for work.”
“Yeah, she’s an amazing woman,” said Draco, Harry groaned as he zoned off just like Ron had. When would it be his turn?
