Chapter 3

I had a lot of trouble sleeping last night, mainly because I didn't understand how I couldn't feel anything about my parents anymore. Despite all that, nothing was more worrying then the letter Hedwig had just delivered. I couldn't understand it and it just wasn't something I'd ever thought she'd do.

Dumbledore probably wouldn't have thought what I was doing was particularly smart given what he'd just told me yesterday, but I just had to find out what had happened. I pulled out my broom from under my bed and quickly ran down to the main grounds. Once I got there I took flight and headed for Muggle Hogwarts. I didn't know what direction Muggle Hogwarts was, so I threw on my invisibility cloak and headed below the cloud cover so I could follow the train track there.

"Did you find anything?" Ginny asked as she met up with Ron at the Great Hall of Muggle Hogwarts.

Ron shrugged "Nothing, you?"

Ginny shook her head. "I don't understand. How could she just leave with telling us why?" Ginny said as she sat on the step outside the Great Hall.

"No idea Ginny, maybe Harry will be of more help," Ron gave in and sat down beside her.

"We don't even know if he's coming. What if Dumbledore won't let him," Ginny sobbed.

"No he'll come. He loves Hermione. Trust me Ginny, no matter what he learnt at Hogwarts it won't stop him coming back here to help Hermione."

Ginny looked up at Ron surprised. "He told you that? I didn't think he ever would," she sighed and started scanning the grounds again.

Ron nodded. "Yeah, yesterday just before he left. He said to look after her, and let him know if anything happened. I think he knew something was going on," Ron explained.

"Yes, I think so too," Ginny acknowledged. "I'm glad he told you," she added.

"Me too… well, we should probably take another look around."

I'd been flying for what seemed like ages but was really no more then fifteen minutes, when I spotted Muggle Hogwarts in the distance. As I drew closer I realised that being in the air could help us find Hermione quicker. Instead of landing straight away and going to see Ron and Ginny I started to fly in a big circle around the school. I had no idea if she'd still be around here, but I thought it was worth a shot. Hermione doesn't like flying so she couldn't have gotten too far away. She doesn't have a broom anyway. At least I didn't think she could've, but it didn't look like she was around. Maybe she'd caught a bus or something and already gotten away from here. Oh well, I guess I better go check in with Ron and Ginny.

I'd just turned to leave when something caught my eye. I wasn't sure if it was anything but I turned around anyway. To my surprise it was an ugly gingery-orange cat which had caught my eye. I could tell that cat a mile away. It was Crookshanks, Hermione's cat. When I followed the path the cat was walking my eyes feel on a girl with brown bushy hair. It was Hermione, I was sure of it. I made sure I was far enough away and no one was around before I started to land. Once I was on the ground I hid my broom in the bushes and headed out to find Hermione.

"What am I doing," Hermione muttered to herself. "I don't believe in all that divinations nonsense… but then why am I running away?" Hermione slumped down on the grass and began to cry for the third time since she realised what was going on. After a few minutes Crookshanks appeared by her side. "Oh. Hello Crookshanks. You didn't need to come with me," she said. "You should go back to Ron and Ginny. I'm alright." The cat didn't leave. "Its just silly, it can't be true… I'm not a seer. I hated divinations. It all seemed so real though, not like my normal dreams," she sighed.

"What's not like your normal dreams?" I asked her as I arrived in the clearing.

"Huh?" Hermione looked around confused. "Oh, Harry, you're alright," she exclaimed.

"Yes," I agreed and sat down beside her. "But what's happened to you?" I inquired.

"Oh nothing really, I just felt like a walk, that's all," she told me in an attempt to hide the truth, which she now realised wasn't true at all.

"You're a long way from the school you know. Maybe we should head back," I suggested, playing along with her story.

Hermione shook her head. "I'd rather stay her."

I nodded. "Alright then, do you want to tell me why you're all the way out here?"

"Oh, I don't know. I just had this strange dream. It's just silly I've no idea why I believed it. I guess it just seemed so real. Maybe we should go back to the school," she said trying to change the subject.

"What was the dream like?" I asked her. I had a feeling I knew the answer already, and I had a reasonable idea of why it could've happened.

Hermione looked up at me. "Well it just seemed like it was all so real, kind of like it was happening right then, but like I said it must have just been a bad dream and I overreacted."

"No it wasn't," I told her. I was now sure he knew what had happened to her and what the dreams were really.

"What do you mean? Of course it was, your still here, aren't you?" she muttered and started crying again. I took her in my arms and held her. "I don't understand," she sobbed. "How could this have happened?" she cried as she began to realise what I had been thinking all along. "It's real, isn't it? It's like what you went through last year isn't it? He's got to me too."

I nodded, "Do you want to tell me about it?" I asked, knowing that it was important to talk about it.

Hermione lifted her head and wiped away her tears, "yes alright, but I don't know how to explain it."

"Just start from the beginning of the `dream'," I told her.

"Okay, well it was all kind of strange really, I don't exactly know why it happened or how but it just kind of did. Anyway I went to sleep late last night after finishing off my homework from science. I always hated science at school I was so terrible at it." I started laughing when she said that. "What?"

"Oh, sorry, it's just your so good at everything. It's funny that you think your bad at anything, let alone science given how good you are at potions," I explained.

"I'm not good at everything. I can't fly like you can," she retorted. "Anyway back to the story. I guess I was worried about you, and what would happen to you if Voldemort found out about the fact that you'd lost the protection of your parents, and well I guess I had this vision of you back at your parents place, well what remains of it, and well there were lots of deatheaters around and they…," she burst into tears. "they… well um,"

"It's alright, I know. I was at Godric Hollows yesterday," I told her as I put my arm around her.

"You were," she asked as she looked up again, her face was so tear stained. I felt so sorry for her she shouldn't have to go through this too. "But then how come your still here?"

"They took the spirit I had from my parents. That's what would've appeared as though I'd died," I explained. "I guess I kindda did. It felt so weird, like I had no emotions at all."

"Oh right," she said, as she wiped the tears from her eyes. "Um, Harry, I have to tell you something." I nodded having a fair idea of what it was she wanted to say. "Harry, I love you. I mean as more than a friend. You've always been there for me, even though I was so mean to you, and what you've done for me now, thanks. It means so much to me," she told me and waited for my response.

"Hermione, I love you too. I always have, though I didn't know it for a long time," I told her and finally did what I'd wanted to do for so long. I kissed her. It was beautiful, much nicer then with Cho. It just felt so right.

As we broke away Hermione laughed "Well, I guess we should head back then." I nodded and we went back to the bushes and picked up my broom and flew back to Muggle Hogwarts together.

"Hermione!" Ginny exclaimed. "Your alright we were so worried about you." Hermione ran over to her and hugged her.

"Yes, I'm alright. Thanks to Harry. Thanks for looking out for me, all of you," she told them and the four of us headed back into the school together.
