Chapter 2: Know thyself
With no one here but me
More loneliness
Than any man could bear
Rescue me before I fall into despair
-"Message in a Bottle" by the Police
Ginny just left for work and Harry was left alone in their suburban home.
Silence was everywhere.
Harry suddenly felt a pang of emptiness and loneliness in his heart.
He brushed his hand on their suede chocolate brown couch and laid himself on it. Thoughts were flooding his mind.
Why am I feeling this?
Is Voldemort really gone for good?
What could have happened if Voldemort succeeded over me?
Will everyday be like this? Dull and Boring?
Am I ready to start my family?
With the over flood of questioning thoughts, Harry took a deep breath and closed his eyes, allowing himself to take a nice nap.
-----------------
"And now, Harry you must DIE!" Voldemort cried as he raised his wand to cast his final curse
Suddenly, an unmistakably green light emanated from Voldemort's wand.
Harry stood, preparing himself for the worst. Raised his wand and said
With that, he collapsed on the floor and blacked out.
----------------
At that, Harry woke up, panting for breath.
"Good thing it was just a dream, but it happened like it was... real" Harry thought.
He got off the couch and went straight to the bathroom.
He splashed some water to his face and looked at the mirror to stare at his reflection.
And all that he saw was an aging young man. A man that is torn apart, burdened with the traces of his past and uncertain about his future.
Even though it was a rather unmanly thing to do, Harry cried.
Tears were carefully falling down on his cheeks. Tears that were full of regret, remorse, anguish, doubts and pent-up emotions were now falling freely from his eyes.
He realized then that crying was not a feminine act to do, and that it reduces a man's masculinity but it just proves that you are strong enough to accept the fact that you cannot always get the things you want in life. It was a way of acknowledging that you are human and is not superior to anyone.
He wiped his eyes with the white towel that was lying on the side of the sink. Then, stared blankly on the mirror before taking off his clothes to take a shower.
He turned the shower knob on its coldest, fullest force, trying to drown himself.
"My life is wasted. I thought that after the war, I could finally live in peace and start a new beginning. But it didn't happen, instead it worsen. I'm like enslaved to my past and I want to move on. But I don't bloody know why!" Harry yelled
And with that, a not-so-brilliant passed by Harry's mind.
"What if I go away, for awhile?" Harry pondered
"Right." He heard himself answer.
---------
Upon finishing his shower, he got dressed then, grabbed some of his clothes from their closet and put it in his brown leather traveling bag.
Within a few minutes, he finished packing.
He went to their study room, got a piece of parchment and brought out his own dusty eagle quill and scribbled a letter for Ginny.
Ginny,
I am leaving, but not for good.
I love you very much that doing this is such a burden for me to do.
All my life, I have been imprisoned at my own world. Always I have been dictated to do things that I didn't want to do. And now, after the whole threat of Voldemort hanging on my shoulders, things have been confusing more than ever.
Because of the loss of Voldemort, it seems like I have lost my own sense of self. It was like when Voldemort was vanished, a part of me. And I have decided that going away for a while is a good answer to that.
I need to find myself, rethink things over and go back to you as soon as I have emerged into a better person and start a family with you. I just need sometime alone to ponder and work out my own internal problems.
Take care of yourself while I'm gone. Hope that you won't get stressed out by your work.
Wish me luck.
With all my love,
Harry
With that, Harry folded the letter, sealed it and left it in the kitchen counter.
Harry took a last glance around his house and apparated into thin air.
