Chapter Nineteen- When Powers Surface

*************************************************

Black. Everything was black. Shadows overcame him, clouding his vision, but then something surfaced something white, something pure.

“Hello, Daroth.” Amity was back, her smile hung graciously on her lips, illuminating the entire darkness. Harry dared not speak, unknowing what would escape his lips. She halted in her gliding steps. “Young Harry, you continue to surprise me in your world. Just tonight you have found Daroth's power source and used it to save two innocent lives, risking your own life in the process. But, one thing confuses me, which does not often happen. Daroth uses his magic and talents in a sense of power, not savior. What I am saying is, you have not used the original method of using the Black Wolf's magic, and you have used your own source.

“You will understand soon enough what I am saying, as soon, those powers will resurface. Until next time, cub of Reverience.” The black landscape dissolved as did the smiling form of a white wolf, Amity. A searing pain began on his forehead, gradually growing more immense. Soon it was so strong that he doubled over, holding his head and screaming. There were voices, soft voices, somewhere around him. But the pain was too great, his scar was burning, it was as though flames engulfed it where he lay.

His name was being chanted, called from above him. A familiar voice spoke, a calm peaceful voice. The pain was still there, but he opened his eyes, his breath coming in steady pants. Tears of pain slid from his eyes as a white beard came into view. The figure bent down towards him, showing blood red eyes and black slits for pupils. Harry yelled and shuffled backwards, feeling hotness well inside him. Anger. The bearded figure was gone in a wave of golden light, looming from Harry's outstretched hands. Someone screamed as everything blacked out.

The voices were back. Their sound hurt his ears, but he couldn't do anything. His hands were heavy and hot, as was his head. Slowly the voices got louder than stopped, they started again, quietly and then thunderous. He wished they would stop; his ears were in agony every time they uttered an unrecognizable word. There was another weight on his chest, but this one was moving and emitting a purring sound. It was Shadow; he could feel his claws digging into his skin.

The voices stopped and there were footsteps drawing closer. But stopped suddenly. Someone spoke close by as Harry felt a tingling sensation cross his body. The voice came clearer as the tingling faded away. Harry caught a few words.

“………barrier………can't………closer………why………how?” the voce was familiar, but somehow different, foreign. “Harry?” he heard his name and tried to open his eyes. He was greeted by a flash of blinding light and a glimpse of grey. His eyes came into focus, finding his glasses on his nose. He was right. Shadow was curled up on his chest, purring softly. He slowly lifted his head to find the room almost empty. He spotted a few familiar faces, and one that seemed special. Hermione. Ron. And someone he wished he didn't see. Just spotting the long white beard made him clamp his eyes tightly shut and felt his hands warm up suddenly. There was a gasp and a sudden hissing as Shadow reared off from his chest, staring at him.

A golden web hung about the room, stopping all from gaining entrance to Harry's bed. He lay breathing heavily, fingers stinging painfully. Hermione hung on the opposite side of the web, tears trickling down her cheeks from blood shot and puffy eyes.

“Harry?” she whispered through the golden chains, “Please Harry, please let me in!” Ron came up behind her and placed a solitary hand on her quivering shoulder, his face pale, eyes red. Sirius stood against the wall, his face much like Ron's. Remus Lupin sat in the corner, hands covering his mouth, grey eyes staring straight into the web. Dumbledore had vanished. Harry looked around painfully, feeling something wrapped around his head. He lifted a hand, seeing it bandaged with a few red, wet stains upon it. He lifted it to his head, feeling material on material; another bandage was wrapped around his head, covering his scar. Eyeing the room sternly, he realized that the old man with familiar snake-like eyes was gone. He sighed, letting out a breath that he didn't know he was holding. The web flickered and disappeared, leaving the room in a hazy golden light. Hermione rushed forward, followed by the others.

“Harry! Oh, Harry!” Hermione cried, rushing forwards and leaning in to give him a hug, which he didn't return. She pulled away, mouth open and fresh tears spilling from her eyes.

“What did you see?” whispered a voice to his left. He turned his emotionless face to where the sound came from. Lupin was standing next to his bed, face pale and a frightened look in his eyes. He shook his head once, moving his gaze out of the window. The visions flashed across his eyes, of the werewolf sure to devour the two innocent lives of the children, then it happening. The dog-like beast pouncing on its prey, tearing the victims to pieces, the sounds of screams echoing in the darkness. Then when it was over, the scene was red, totally covered in blood, no remains of the children left. And the werewolf, sitting there licking its lips, the blood of the two siblings dripping from its savage jaws. It was too much.

The bucket was thrust under his chin just in time, as the memory of what Harry saw visited him once more. When he pulled away the pain was still there, still lingering in his mind, still hurting. Sirius stashed away the bucket, water trickling from his eyes. He quickly wiped the silent tears away, sniffing quietly.

They were still there when he awoke, still grieving for some thing unknown to Harry. He moved slightly, feeling Hermione's weight on his stomach. He smiled briefly, but as soon as he did, the pictured flooded back.

“Both dead.” He whispered miserably, feeling tears well in his eyes. Sirius jumped up from his seat by the door.

“Who are dead?” he said, trying to contain his happiness at seeing and hearing his godson taking. Another figure appeared from another seat. It was Lupin.

“They are alive Harry.” Sirius started at Lupin's voice.

“Who are alive?” he said.

Harry shook his head fiercely. “No, I seen them, they………werewolf………maze!” the tears came this time; he wiped them away with his bandaged hands.

“No!” Lupin answered, gaining another confused look from Sirius. “You were lead to believe they were killed by the werewolf, by Voldemort.” Harry couldn't believe this.

“But I saw them. I saw it!” he stammered, getting more confused by the second. Sirius had decided to just stand and listen to what was going on.

“No, you saw what was supposed to happen. But it was stopped by you. You saved them, Harry.” Harry shook his head.

“I couldn't save them. I tried, I really tried, but-.”

“No, Harry. You save them. Just when they were going to die, you saved them. I don't know how you did it, but you changed the layout of the maze, caging the two children in the middle, safe, and killing the werewolf. Just when you awoke Ministry officials arrived, being lead by an extreme burst of unknown magical energy. But when they arrived they spotted Voldemort disapparate and many of the Death Eaters escaped as well. Voldemort couldn't handle you saving the children you were meant to see being devoured, so fed you another fake sight, of the children being killed. Take no notice of this, Harry.”

“How do you know all this?” demanded Sirius, scratching his head. Lupin smiled briefly.

“I figured it out. I knew most of it, just not why Harry was so sad after returning if he saved two people's lives and I didn't know, or still don't know how you managed to produce all those powers.”

Harry whispered one word. “Daroth.” The weight on his chest lifted as Hermione raised her head.

“The Black wolf.” Said a quiet voice in the doorway. Harry looked up and immediately regretted it. Those cold, red eyes were staring right back.

“Get away from me!” Harry hissed, scrunching his fists up into a ball. They slowly grew hot as small bolts of lightning began to shoot forwards from his hand. Albus Dumbledore stepped from the shadows, a small, distant glitter in his eyes, but a sad smile upon his lips.

“Harry, it is me, Albus Dumbledore, I do not know what you see when you look at my face, but it is an illusion created by Voldemort. Nothing else, please think things through before acting them out.” He said calmly and slowly, raising his hands in a surrendering position. Harry's breaths were once more uneven. The air billowing forth from his lips came in a cloudy white although no breeze blew into the room and the temperature was warm and sweaty. The small bolts of electricity faltered and stopped all together though Harry's hands stayed hot and steamy.

“I see Voldemort when I should be seeing you. Instead of seeing blue I see red. I see dark in place of light. I'm sorry; I should have known that you could not be under the influence of Voldemort, I should not have acted so fiercely.” Harry bowed his head, unknowing mostly everyone was looking at him peculiarly due to his strange style of speaking in just that couple of sentences. A hand was placed on Harry's shoulder; he looked up into the familiar twinkling blue instead of cold red. He smiled the first smile he'd smiled in a long time.

It was a week later and the school was still buzzing with Harry's astounding dream. The culprit who leaked this vital information to the other students was unknown, so Harry couldn't punch them for being so stupid in directing more unwanted fame to him.

“What really happened that night, Harry?” asked about the hundredth person that day. Harry glared at them and pushed past, hearing Hermione apologizing behind him.

“Can't they get the hint?” he said angrily, bursting into the empty Potions room, and slamming his bag down upon the table as he sat. Hermione patted him on the arm affectionately.

“I wish we knew who told everyone, I'll take about two hundred points from them alone and arrange a detention with Professor Snape!” she huffed, gaining a small smile from her boyfriend. Bolt shifted uneasily upon his shoulder. He refused to let Harry out of his sight these days, as when he did he seemed to think something bad always happened to his owner and friend. The potions master swept into the room, snarling briefly at Ron who was carving something into the wooden desk.

“Twenty points from Gryffindor, Mr. Weasley, for defacing school property. If I catch you doing it again there will be a month's worth of detentions waiting for you.” Ron's mouth gaped open wide enough to fit a whole orange.

“OH!” he whispered loudly and unbelievingly, staring after the greasy-haired man. Harry and Hermione laughed quietly. Harry looked at the desk which Ron had written upon it had `L.L' carved into it, inside a love-heart with an arrow shooting through it. It was good that Ron had something that he didn't, even if it was Luna Lovegood.

The day came when the whole of Hagrid's Care of Magical Creature's class was piled inside and old shed next to his own hut, readying for the hatching of Scorch and Aqua's pups. Scorch had laid the two eggs a couple of weeks before hand, now they were ready to hatch. Shallow cracks were already streaking down the creamy colored shells. Soon a loud cracking could be heard emitting from one of the eggs. Suddenly the shell shattered, flying in different directions. Scorch scuttled forwards, gazing nervously into the nest she had made. Sitting In the centre of the nest, beside the other hatching dragon was an extremely small, white, golden eyed reptile. It burped and sent a few sparks forward from its nostrils, getting a loud sniff from Hagrid.

“Isn't she beautiful?” Sure is, thought Harry, eyeing the other egg, now hatching. It burst open and out flopped `two' small, dragons, one was a light red and the other as a light, sky blue; twins. Hagrid wailed and watched as they too, were cleaned up by their mother. Ron and Hermione were allowed to step forward and caress the baby dragons, Ron taking an immediate liking to the red and Hermione to the blue. Harry, however, felt somehow drawn to the small white one. He stepped forward and watched as the little dragons golden eyes fell upon him. It began to walk towards him, never taking its eyes of Harry's. It stopped just a few centimeters away from the edge of the table top ledge where its next was situated.

Harry reached out and placed is hand down, palm facing up to the dragon pup. It stepped up onto his fingers, a tiny bit bigger than his hand. He lifted it up and stroked its scaly head. It let out a soft purring sound and licked his fingers. He smiled and continued petting it. Bolt flapped down to the table and smelt the little dragon which was his nephew, then crooned lovingly, becoming a soft orange color.

“Oh, how small is it!” said someone behind him. He turned and looked into the face of Parvarti Patil who was smiling largely. She stuck out her finger to the newborn, but squealed and quickly drew it back when the little dragon snapped savagely at her.

“It has takin' a liken to yeh, `Arry!” said Hagrid to his left, who was still in a joyful mood over the hatching. Harry nodded slowly, continuing the patting.

When the bell rang, most of the class left for lunch, but Harry, Ron and Hermione stayed behind.

“Come on, get off!” swore Ron, as he tried to pry the smallest dragon from Harry's sleeve. It hissed at him and snapped. “Stupid thing!” he said, turning to the other two, snuggling up to their mother. Aqua had went off hunting, even though there was a bucket of chicken blood and brandy sitting in the corner which Hagrid had made up. “Hermione, you try and get that creature off Harry's arm, as it sure as hell won't come off for me!”

“Oh, ok,” she wandered forward and reached out to take the creature and tried as Ron did, but failed also. “Harry, it would be easier if you helped.” She said, staring at Harry. He sighed and tickled the pure white dragons chin; it squeaked and sent a few sparks from its mouth.

“Come on girl, time to have something to eat and go to sleep.” He said gently, and to his amazement the little dragon looked up at him, nodded and let go of his sleeve. It fluttered onto the table and walked slowly back to its mother, looking back at Harry before climbing into the nest.

“Geeze, Harry, how come it listened to you?” Ron asked unbelievingly when they were walking back up the grounds after promising the dragons to come back tomorrow to the dragons and Hagrid.

“I have no idea! And isn't it unusual for there to be a pure white dragon?” asked Harry, pushing open the Great Doors and strolling into the Entrance hall.

“Yes, it is, but I still wanna know how it understood you, because that's really strange!” began Hermione, and the other two groaned as she launched into a piece of information she had found on dragons and them unable to understand human speech. It was well after lunch and half way through Transfiguration before she stopped her discussion.

It was the day of the Quidditch grand Final and Gryffindor was competing in it. Their opponent was Slytherin, as usual, and they were feistier than ever before.

“Better watch your back, Potter, never know when I might slip with the bat and connect with your head,” was one of the things said to Harry during breakfast as a Slytherin walked passed.

“Ok team,” began Harry in his Captain speech before a game. Butterflies were flapping in his stomach and his heart was threatening to jump out his throat any minute. “This is the day we've been training for all year. Our team is better than Slytherin's, its just most of us are scare they will cast an Unforgivable upon us at any minute. But don't worry, they won't do anything while Dumbledores watching, and I've asked him to watch this one, just in case. Now, we've been through all our moves and tactics at training yesterday, so all we need to do is try our best and get out there and play as we were playing yesterday. LET'S GO!” he shouted. It wasn't much but he got a great yell in return none the less. They busted through the doors and soared into the air as their names were called.

After Harry shook hands with Blaise Zabini, who hissed savagely at him, “Better watch your self, potter.” Before flying off in the other direction in search of the golden snitch. The game had gone on for almost an hour and a half and the score stood at Seventy to One Hundred to Gryffindor and there had been no sighting of the snitch just as yet. Harry was being followed by Zabini, like he had been the whole game when he spotted a little flickering of gold near the Gryffindor goals. He flew quickly towards it, glancing back to see Blaise not following him but a slight smile on his lips. Harry thought nothing of this and reached out and clasped the golden ball with golden wings.

“Hang on!” Harry thought, “Golden?” just as this thought crossed his mind he went to stop his hand from touching the ball, but it was too late. His fingers grazed the golden surface as it exploded, sending Harry, along with the shards of the fake golden winged snitch, through the air. Harry was falling, falling towards the forest, as everything became a swirl of colors and then came the shadows.
