Chapter Nine- Visitors and Long Lost Love
Harry was walking back through the grounds, having just made his silent agreement. He passed some giggling first graders and smiled at them, admiring their youth and innocence. They returned his smile and began giggling madly when he left. He was wondering if he should visit Hagrid while the day was still young, but thought better of it as he watched the half-giant vanished into the forest. Harry continued towards the cabin, it once bigger than years before.
The grass surrounding it had grown back and the plants along the walls were coming along nicely. Everything seemed to be recovering after the battle at the end of last year; the fire that had torn apart the gamekeeper's cabin and most of the Forbidden Forest had been a terrible blow to the school. The Quidditch Stadium had been rebuilt, now larger and more magnificent than before.
Harry stopped before the first outside wall of Hagrid's home. Many names were scratched into the wooden surface, with messages from their friends or family. Harry traced his finger across a few, pausing at the name Colin Creevely. He remembered the small first year, holding a camera before his face and grinning cheekily as he snapped photos of Harry. He thought of the lifeless form of a second year, petrified holding his beloved camera, lying on a bed in the Hospital Wing. He remembered Colin greeting his brother after he had been sorted into Gryffindor, both grinning in awe at Harry. Now he remembered seeing Colin Creevely, lying dead on the bloody grass, his camera a few places away, smashed and never again to be used. A message was carved beneath from his brother, Dennis.
Colin, you were my brother and my friend. I'm sorry you had to go away so soon and that I couldn't come with you. You have helped me in so many ways and I wish that I could've thanked you before you were lost. I will find you.
Tears threatened to burst from his eyes as the emotion burnt behind his glasses. He moved on, not daring to let the sorrow engulf him.
He outlined the name Susan Bones. She had been a Hufflepuff, full of life and care. She had been always smiling and willing to help anybody in need. Harry remembered her wavy red hair and broad smile, and he thought he might let the tears take over. He came across another name and felt his body begin to droop towards the ground. This was the name of someone he had taught in the DA and even had a short relationship with. It was Cho Chang's name engraved with the many dead.
Someone had written her a message.
Cho. I have known you since your first year and we have been the best of friends since. I was one of many people to see your kindness and beauty, and I cry because you have left us so quickly. I believe you are in a better place, with Cedric. He loved you, as I love you. Please, rest in peace, and fly through the heavens as a beautiful swan. Go free.
A single tear dripped from his eye as he swiftly wiped it away. The note was from her best friend Natalie Wilson, who had graduated last year. Cho would be finished Hogwarts by now and would be starting her new job or shopping with her friends. Harry tore his eyes from the Message Wall and looked out across the grounds. He spotted two figures walking up the path towards the Hogwarts Gates. They stopped at the large metal gate and one pulled their wand from their coat. There was a brief blue light before the gates swung open and allowed them entrance. Once they had entered, it shut behind them with a clang.
Harry wondered who they were as he made his way across the grass, the sunlight burning into the back of his neck. When he got closer, he suddenly recognised who they were as they both waved frantically to him. He was grinning ecstatically as he quickly ran towards the. When he met with them, he hugged them both and greeted them.
Sirius was looking great. With his hair cropped shorted, so it framed his handsome face with an elegance it only achieved in his schooling years. His eyes were sparkling with their grey humour and his mouth was tilted in a smile. Remus was looking better than ever. He looked much younger, with the bags beneath his eyes gone, replaced with lines of laughter.
“What are you guys doing here?” said Harry. “Not that I mind!” he hurriedly countered, after seeing Sirius's smile falter. Remus was grinning as he glanced at Sirius who was practically bouncing with excitement.
“Guess what?” Sirius said. Not waiting for an answer, he continued on. “Dumbledore wants us to teach you lot how to duel and even make a competition of it!” he said. Harry laughed at his godfather's eagerness.
“That's great!” Harry said, truly happy. “When will it start?” he asked.
“This Saturday night,” said Remus. “We have to announce it and everything first, hopefully it won't take away the people from your Defence group,” he said, frowning. Harry just grinned.
“Don't worry about it, we aren't doing the DA this year,” Harry said. He couldn't stop smiling. He was so thrilled that Sirius and Remus were back at Hogwarts and he was able to spend even more time with them.
“What? Why?” asked Remus, confused. Harry shuffled his feet. “Well, we have a better Defence Professor this year, and I don't think many people would want to continue the DA after the battle. After seeing what real fighting is like…” he trailed off. Sirius stepped forward and squeezed his shoulder.
“That's more a good reason for them to learn how to fight proper and use magic in a defensive way. They need to learn to fight back and not just give up. I think you should continue the DA, so people can learn spells to use against the enemies. Plus, they all need to learn spells to use in the contest. Oh, I can`t wait!” Sirius exclaimed, a joyful smile gracing his young face.

Minerva McGonagall and Professor Tide were walking near the greenhouses, talking about teaching as usual.
“I believe the students need to learn advanced Defence, so they can defend themselves out in the world. Or even in this school,” Professor Tide said, remembering the battle that took place within the grounds only a few months ago. The Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher enjoyed talking to her old friend. They shared so much in common and just enjoyed each other's company. They passed a group of giggling teenagers and she smiled. She thought of when she was that young, in Hogwarts and just free of all the weight of the world. But that was before Voldemort made his appearance and darkened the world.
“I agree, but some of the things the students know and can perform, are just frightening. I had the displeasure of witnessing a seventh year Slytherin's power when he turned one of his classmates into the splitting image of You-Know-Who!” spoke Minerva McGonagall, her Scottish accent taking over. Professor Tide placed a hand to her mouth.
“What did you do?” she asked. “Of course, I informed the headmaster and after he had spoken to the boy, I gave him two weeks worth of detention with Filch!” she said.
“Good on you!” Professor Tide said. Many of the older Slytherin students were, even now, mixing with the Death Eaters and Voldemort. But, still, Albus believed they could change their minds, and stick with the Light side. Personally, she believed the headmaster should pack their stuff and kick them out. But a part of her also said that would be a worse thing to do. Imagine the things they could do out in the world, influenced by Voldemort and with a mind of knowledge. She shuddered at the thought.
The professors wandered towards Hagrid's cabin, where she spotted a boy lingering before. She suspected he had been reading the many names carved into the wood, and felt a brief stab of sadness penetrate his heart. So many had been affected by the attack at the end of the last school year, but the wounds seemed to be healing. The scars would always be there, but the pain would slowly vanish, as it always did.
They paused in front of the memorial wall and stood in silence, reading the messages left for the ones who died. When it got too much for her, she tore her eyes away and looked across the grounds to where three figures were standing near the front gates. She recognized one as Harry Potter; she would know that head of unruly hair from anywhere; she had watched his father run his hand through his own, many times before. Remembering that, she pushed it from her mind, and looked at the other two.
One was laughing with his head thrown back, his dark hair blowing in the wind. The other was laughing also, as he scratched an itch on his neck. Her breath caught in her throat as she recognised the man's features and calm attitude.
“Remus!” she breathed.

The old friends were about to walk up to the castle when Harry heard the hurried footsteps of someone approaching from behind. He turned to see Professor Tide practically running up the grounds, her brown hair flying behind her in a glittering ribbon. Her face was partially hidden by her lopsided hat. She was struggling up the grounds, and just as Harry was about to ask if she was okay, he heard both Remus and Sirius let out squawks of shock.
Professor Tide had reached them by now and her breath was ragged from her fleet across the grounds. She looked to Remus who had moved forward, his mouth open and eyes wide. She pulled her hat from her hat and stared at him with her bright blue eyes. Remus's mouth was moving open and closed, kind of like a fish. But it was not he who spoke.
“Jasmine?” It was Sirius. He stepped forward, his own face a mirror of Remus's. Professor Tide turned her persistent stare to Sirius. And when their eyes locked, Harry witnessed something he could not put into words. There seemed to be an immediate connection with the two of them when their eyes met. Professor Tide almost collapsed when she caught sight of Sirius's wide grey eyes and tamed black hair. Her face went pale and she started to shake.
“Sirius?” she stammered, her voice cracking as if it had been splintered with a stake. The two of them stood oblivious to both Remus and Harry, and continued to stare into each other's mind. There was silence for a moment before Professor Tide began to sob uncontrollably and fell to the ground with a soft thump.
Sirius went down with her, his own face pale, as if he had seen a ghost; a thing most common in the Magical World.
“You-you-how?” she sobbed. “Lily and James-the Dark Lord-murder and Pettigrew…” her words were cut off as she began to cry soundlessly, with her hands pressed against her face. Sirius looked up to them, his own eyes sparkling. Remus was in much the same state. Harry was just standing there, not knowing what was happening, or even if he should know.
“Jasmine?” said Sirius shakily. “Jasmine? What are you doing here? Where have you been?” he said. Professor Tide lifted her head, her eyes now bloodshot and puffy. She took a deep breath.
“Me? What about you? You die-died!” she said, hiccupping. Now it was Harry's turn to gape. She still believed that Sirius had been killed in the Ministry!
“No he didn't!” blurted Harry. She looked up at him with her startling blue eyes and he stared right back with his emerald. Just as he was about to commence with his revelation, Remus cut him off.
“This is not the time or place,” he said hoarsely. “Let's go up to the castle,” he said. She caught his gaze for a moment before allowing him to help her to her feet. Sirius was still in shock as he walked beside the teary-eyed professor. Harry followed closely behind, feeling left out and that he should not be there. When they reached the castle and began to ascend the staircase, he stopped. Remus turned to him.
“I might leave you here, so you can talk-!” he began, before Professor Tide cut him off. “No, you have the right to hear what's go-going on!” she said softly. Harry numbly nodded and followed them up the stairs. They continued walking until they were before the Defence Teacher's office. Professor Tide unlocked the door and led them inside. Remus conjured three extra chairs, which Sirius, Harry and he sat in. The professor took the chair behind her desk and collapsed into it with slight exhaustion.
There was silence in the room, broken by the ticking of a clock on the wall. When Harry was becoming too nervous, he was about to speak when the Defence teacher got there before him. She seemed to have calmed down immensely, although her hands were still shaking as she clutched the table fiercely.
“The last I heard of you, you have fallen through the Veil in the Ministry,” she said softly, tears leaking from her eyes. Harry felt the urge to comfort her, but refrained himself.
“I did!” Sirius said, even softer still. She looked up at him, with those deep blue eyes and her face paled. “Then how is it that you're still a-alive?” she stammered. Harry looked between them in awe. What was happening here? Her name sounded familiar, Jasmine, but he could not think where he had heard it.
So Sirius filled the woman in on his adventure through the Arch, with Harry listening with eager ears. He was still shocked at what had happened to his godfather when he had fallen through the veil almost two years ago. Jasmine Tide gasped in all the right places and cried in happiness when Sirius told him how he made his fleet to Harry. Remus stayed silent in the tale, with his eyes staring at the woman. When Sirius finished, he spoke.
“Why did you leave?” he said quietly. Harry was confused by the question, but he suddenly remembered back in the summer when Sirius had told him of his one true love. She had been his mother's best friend. The two flowers: Lily and Jasmine.
“I-I heard that Lily and James had been kill-killed. I thought it could have only been Sirius who told You-Know-Who of where they were hiding. Then someone told me how he had confronted Peter and killed him and all those muggles. I fled because I couldn't understand why he would do that to Lily and James, and to you and Harry. I couldn't stay when there was nothing left!” she said, breaking down once more.
“I was still there,” Remus said softly, gazing at her with his sad brown eyes. She looked to him and whispered. “I'm sorry…”
“Why didn't you come back sooner?” Sirius blurted painfully. “You could've found out I was innocent and alive!” he said. Jasmine shook her head sadly.
“When I left, I gave up on the Wizarding World! I travelled the world and left my past behind. Only when Albus sent me a letter this summer asking if I could fill the position of Defence Teacher, I decided to face my demons!” she said, tears falling once more.
“But you still could have sent me a letter, and I would have told you that Sirius had escaped four years ago! And that he was innocent and Peter was the traitor who sold out Lily and James!” Remus said loudly.
“After a while, I figured out that Sirius couldn't have killed Wormtail…,” she said softly, gazing at Sirius with wide eyes brimming with tears. “How?” he asked.
“A few years ago, I was journeying through Albania when I stopped at this small pub. I found a man who looked and sounded incredibly like Peter Pettigrew but I willed myself to not believe in false hopes. I left a day later to find the same man talking to himself in a small forest. This time he was uncloaked and I finally understood that Sirius had been framed. But before I could capture Wormtail, he Apparated and I didn't know where he went!” she said, scratching the desk with her nails.
“Why didn't you come back then?” Harry said, not understanding why this woman would pass up the facts and not face the truth. She looked to him and smiled sadly. “I wish I could have. For about a year, I researched all the facts about that night and read most of the articles written about the incident and all the interviews conducted about it. After I finished that, I began organising what I would say when I finally came back, and this was around the time that interview was published concerning your fourth year. I was so infuriated when I read that that I sped up my organisations and immediately flew over here. But, once here, I didn't know how to find Sirius and Remus! I searched everywhere I thought they could be, with no luck. As I was about to give up, word came about that Sirius Black, the murderer, had been killed in a Ministry of Magic break in.
“My heart almost stopped that day. I fled once again and was determined not ever to come back. So, here I am.” She finished. Harry felt a little unease at these words. Why would someone need a year to read newspaper articles and do research? There seemed to be something left out of her explanation, but Harry passed it up when Sirius practically jumped over the table at Jasmine Tide and landed her in a gigantic hug. Harry sat speechless as the two of them cried into each other's shoulders. He silently stood when Remus began to hug the woman, all of them sharing something Harry was not part of. He slipped from the office and made sure no one saw him as he walked quietly down the hall, his mind replaying the scene he had just witnessed.

Hey peoples. Sorry about this chapter, it is pretty boring and useless, but I wanted to introduce Sirius's old love and tell a bit about her background. This one was rushed and the next one should be out in the next couple of weeks, whenever I have time. It will probably be next week, as I have another week of holidays. I will try to get a couple out before school starts, because I have major exams starting up and I have to study! Ahh!
