Chapter Ten- Dream Time

Harry was walking through Hogwarts. Students and teachers turned their heads as he passed, but they were people he did not recognize. Their uniforms were different and their styles were strange. He walked quickly and with purpose. He did not know where he was going but his feet kept walking, kept heading in the direction of the headmaster's office.

He faced the stone gargoyle; it was clean and looked new. Just as he was pondering the reasons for this, he spoke in a voice that was not his own. “Merlin,” The stone gargoyle sprang to life and allowed him entrance. The revolving staircase took him to the top of the stairs where he stood facing the grand oak door. He did not bother knocking but walked straight through.

The room he once knew as the headmaster's office had changed. Instead of one desk, there were four of equal sizes. At one sat a tall, dark haired woman. She looked up at him with a pair of dark eyes and smiled.

“Good day,” she spoke in a voice that was as beautiful as her features. “Good day to you as well,” Harry spoke in that voice that sounded older and more powerful. He strode to the desk in the middle and sat down upon the deep red armchair.

“Have you seen Helga?” Harry said, looking towards the desk beside his own where a light yellow armchair sat vacant. “I believe she has a class in progress down in the forest, would you like me to send word for her?” the dark haired witch asked. Harry felt his head shake and spotted a tendril of light brown hair fall before his eyes.

“Do not bother; I was only calling for her to ask if she had found any more of that marvellous plant that heals burns. I happened to burn myself in my afternoon class today; the students thought it quite humorous that the young draggling I was hatching, sneezed and caught fire to my robe,” Harry said lightly, inspecting a red mark on his hand. He noticed, with interest, that his skin was darker than before, and his hands looked strong and powerful.

“I have been working for a while up here, and I believe a nice walk would do me good. Do not worry yourself, I will be back with the essence as soon as I can,” she said, standing and allowing her blue robe to fall softly to the ground. Harry turned to her and smiled. “My thanks,” he said watching the witch exit the circular room. He heard the door slide shut and looked down to his desk.

Parchment and an eagle feather quill were resting on the shining oak surface. He picked up the quill and set it against his lip, thinking. Just as Harry was wondering what was to happen next, his body stood and his brown hand placed the quill back on the desk. He walked slowly to the wall behind his desk where there was a magnificent sword lying across a ruby blanket. He picked it up and traced his fingers over the engraving on the hilt. The words Godric Gryffindor sparkled up at him.

Harry's head turned upwards to look into the glass of a weapon's cabinet. And he gasped mutely as he saw his reflection in the glass. Or what was once his reflection. Sandy coloured hair fell to his shoulders in a jagged, yet elegant style. His face was thin and deeply tanned. And not his green eyes shone out but dark brown.

In the same castle but high in the Gryffindor Tower, Harry awoke in a start. Immediately after his eyelids opened, he scrambled from his four-poster and ran through the dark to the floor length mirror on the wall.

“Lumos!” he whispered, lighting up his face. He ran a hand through his dark hair and inspected his eyes. He sighed when he saw that they were once more his mother's green. He looked at his hands and saw the white, thin hand that belonged to him. Extinguishing his wand, he walked silently back to his bed, but kicked the corner of his truck and yelped in pain. Ron snored loudly in the bed next to his own and he sank into his bed, thankful his friends hadn't awoken.

Harry stared at the red hangings draped around his bed, his thoughts on the dream he had just awoken from. What did it mean? And was it somehow connected to the strange but brief changes occurring to his body? Who was that dark haired witch that his dream self had talked to and who was that person Helga? He had heard the name before but he could not think of where.

His thoughts kept wondering as he lay there, but soon sleep took over this time, void of dreams.

Ron woke Harry the next morning, saying that they were late. They had agreed to meet the headmaster in his office that morning concerning the DA. He quickly looked at his watch and spotted it was nearing half passed ten. Both boys quickly dressed and scrambled from the dormitories and common room and took a detour through the Great Hall. They arrived at the stone gargoyle, holding a few pieces of toast, just as Hermione and Ginny did.

Hermione raised her eyebrows as Harry quickly kissed her on the cheek, smiling sweetly. She chuckled lightly as she said, “Merlin,” for the password. Harry was stunned. Hadn't the password in his dreams been Merlin as well? Was it just a coincidence? He wasn't able to ponder on this too long as both Hermione and Ginny were dragging him onto the moving staircase, saying they were already late.

They knocked with the Griffin Door Knocker and waited for the headmaster to call them in. When it came, the four of them entered the circular office and Harry had a brief flash of déjà vu, before he quickly overcame it and sat down with his friends before the oak desk.

"Good morning, Harry, Hermione, Ronald, Ginevra, I trust you all had a nice sleep?" said Albus Dumbledore, his blue eyes twinkling. Both Ron and Ginny grew red at the use of their full names. Harry was grinning when he said, "Yes, sir, we did!"

"Good, good, now, down to business. I believe you would like to begin the DA once more?" said the headmaster, looking at Harry over his half moon spectacles. Harry nodded.

“Yes, sir, I wasn't going to continue it but my friends convinced me it would be more appropriate after last years events,” he said, watching Dumbledore's eyes twinkle merrily.

“Very well then,” the old man said, “That can be arranged, and I will allow for it to run once more. Also, I've that you have been informed of the Duelling Competition?” Harry nodded, grinning. He thought it would be fun. “Yes, I think it would be wise to go over the main aspects of Duelling with your pupils, just so they are ready when the competition begins.” Said Dumbledore. Harry nodded, his mind already formulating the many spells he could teach the DA.

“Sir, I was wondering if we could have another Yule Ball, or something of that kind, this Christmas? It would be to promote inter-house relationships and strengthen the student body,” Hermione suddenly said. Both Harry and Ron shot their heads around to her and Ginny, who were both smiling sweetly. The headmaster was smiling when Harry looked to him, mouth half-open.

“I believe that would be just would this school needs. Of course, I would have to run it by the other professors, but I think it is a brilliant idea, Ms Granger. But I must warn you, the Head Boy and Girl are expected to make all the arrangements and rules, are you up to it?” he asked, smiling warmly. Hermione was practically bouncing in her seat.

“Of course, sir!” she said. Dumbledore then turned his aged head to Harry who was looking and feeling slightly apprehensive. “And what do you say, Mr Potter, can you handle the responsibility?” Harry could have laughed at that moment. And he thought Dumbledore knew it to. The headmaster was wondering if he could handle the responsibility of organising a school dance when he had faced acromantulas, Basilisks, Death Eaters, werewolves, giants and even Voldemort. Plus with the prophecy hanging over him, he had already faced more responsibility than any other person had.

“It might be a bit tough and I'm not sure if I'm ready for such responsibility,” Harry said, trying to keep his face straight. His three friends both turned their heads to face him, all their mouth's open and eyes wide. Harry was struggling to keep from smiling as he looked into the headmaster's eyes.

Suddenly, Dumbledore began laughing. Not chuckling, but full out bursting with laughter. His head was thrown back and he removed his glasses from his head as tears of mirth escaped to his wrinkled cheeks. Harry looked to his friends and spotted their horror-stricken faces. That was all he could take, he too, began to laugh. Soon all of them were snorting with laughter. It was a good ten minutes before the headmaster had righted himself and had placed his spectacles back on his nose.

“I think I might be fine with this, sir.” Harry said, wiping his own eyes to rid them from the tears. Dumbledore was grinning now, while his face was still pink from the exertion.

“Okay, my dear boy, I will get in touch with you for more arrangements. Have a lovely day!” Dumbledore said, still smiling as the teens left his office. Once the doors had been closed and the office once more lapsed into the steady, clicking of the many silver instruments scattered about the circular room. Albus Dumbledore stood from behind his desk.

“Not ready for such responsibility,” he chuckled, wiping away a single tear from his clear blue eyes.

oOoOoOo

Hey everyone. I'm sorry this one took ages to get out and I'm even sorrier that it is much shorter than any of my other chapters. Its just I'm back at school and have exams coming up. Everything has been so hectic. I should have the next one up in a few weeks, if not sooner. Please review and tell me what you think. And the thing with the dreams is pretty obvious, I think so anyway.

Thanks!
