Chapter 2
Harry picked up the phone and dialled the number and waited while it rang.
“Sorry, we are not here, please leave a message and we try and get back to you as soon as we can.” Mrs. Granger’s voice spoke and there was a beep. Harry sighed and ran a hand through his hair in frustration.
“Mione, it’s me, can you please contact me as soon as you can, we, I’m, worried about you because you haven’t been in contact with us since the summer break had started and it’s maddening not knowing what is going on with you. Please Mione just owl me or phone me or what ever, I’m really scared that Voldemort or one of his supporter has you and it’s making me frantic that he might have one of my best friends in his hands. Please just contact me as soon as you possible can!” Harry begged as the fear seeped into his body through his heart. “I’ll see you later I hope. Bye Mione.” Harry sighed and hung up the phone. He sat there staring at it, wishing that it would ring and that Hermione was on the other side telling him that his fears were unfounded and that she was fine and was very sorry for putting him through the torture but she had been so caught up in a new book that she had gotten but no luck. The phone stayed still, taunting Harry.
Petunia watched as Harry begged into the phone and she felt her heart slightly break for the young man in front of her. (Young man? Since when had he grown?) She shook her head and went back into the kitchen to give herself a good talking to, she can’t get involved in Harry’s life but couldn’t help but feel sympathy for him, he was exactly the same when his father was pleading Lily to give him a chance when he said something stupid.
Harry got up slowly and trudged up the stairs to his room to stare at the ceiling again. He was scared, more scared than anything in his life, he might be losing one of his best friend, one that always had been there for him, she was there for him through everything, thick and thin, through high water and hell. In first year she helped him get through the potions to stop Voldemort stealing the stone. Second year, he had almost lost her to the snake but she still managed to help him by finding out why he could hear voices through the walls. Third year, she helped him save Sirius a fate worst than death. Fourth year, she helped him achieve all the spells that he needed to learn, to stick by him, believe in him when no one else would, including his other best friend. Fifth year, she helped him to get everyone to believe that Voldemort is back and to find out about girls and to help him get to the Ministry of Magic to save Sirius only for them to end up in a trap.
Harry stopped breathing when the memory of Hermione cheering for joy then stopping in mid-cheer as a spell slashed through her chest, sending her crumbling to ground. He really thought he had lost her that day; his heart started squeezing as tears filled his eyes. He needed her too much, she was the air that he breathed in, the light in his life, the only person who knew that he was thinking before he could say anything, the one person who kept him sane while trying to figure out a clue that lead to saving someone life. It was amazing, all these times he spent with her and he never thought to say thank you to her at all.
‘This year, I promise, when I see her, I will say thank you for everything that she did for me.’ Harry thought to himself, vowing that she would know how much he was grateful for her. Harry gave a small smile and settled down as he closed his eyes and drifted off into a deep sleep.
Meanwhile, a small figure was curled up in a bed, crying into her pillow.
“Harry please find me, please find me.” She whispered as she fought the darkness that threaten to enveloped her.
