Chapter 15: The Funeral and a message.
Harry watched as Hermione made her way toward the front of the church to talk to the priest. Everyone had arrived and was all sitting in the pew while Harry stood at the door, greeting everyone who came and gesturing them where to sit.
It was a dark dull day and there were hint of rain, which made the mood perfect for the day.
The day of the Funeral:
It was being held in the muggle world, Hermione wanted it to be there so that it wouldn’t arouse suspicions from the muggle family and for them to ask too many questions.
Harry’s heart broke when he looked at Hermione, she was wearing a black dress that stopped just below mid-thigh and knee-high boots, her normally bright eyes were dull, she didn’t seem to have a spark of life in her at all and it made him want to take her away from this cruel world and keep her safe from harm and pain but knew it would never work, there was no place on Earth safe enough for them to hide, he should know, he tried it so many times to find somewhere to hide from the world but it never worked.
Ron was standing off to the side with Luna; she was wearing a black top and black trouser as most of the women were wearing. Ron was wearing a black jumper and black jeans as he wrapped his arms around Luna and Ginny, who was sobbing into Draco’s chest.
Harry noticed that Molly and Arthur was standing next to Dumbledore and McGonagall as they watched Hermione nod and move toward Harry.
Harry took in a sharp breath when he saw the death look in her eyes and held out his arms for her when she moved in distance near him. Hermione, gladly, stepped into his arms and let him comforted her.
He kissed the top of her head as he stroked back her hair, which she straightened for the day.
“Everything will be fine, I promise.” Harry whispered and Hermione nodded into his chest, holding back her tears as hard as she could at the sight of her parents closed caskets.
The Priest stood at the altar and cleared his throat. Harry helped Hermione to her seat at the front and sat next to her, still holding her while pressing his lips to the side of her head as she looked at the caskets.
“We are gathered here today to mourn the death of Jane and Stuart Granger. It was a terrible tragedy that took them away from us at such a short moment.” He said sadly and Hermione sniffed as she turned her head into Harry’s chest while he wrapped his other arm around her and laid his cheek on top of her head.
McGonagall and Dumbledore along with Sirius, Lupin, and Snape were watching from the two rows behind them.
“Poor Miss Granger, she’s been through so much.” McGonagall sniffed as she wiped her tears away and Dumbledore nodded in agreement.
“There are a few people who would like to say a few words for them, the first one is Jack Granger, Stuart’s father.” The priest said and jack stood up and made his way to the altar.
“This is hard to say, but the one thing I always feared that my son would die before me, no one should ever have to bury their own child. Stuart was always filled with life and when he first met Jane he had never been so happy till that day Hermione came in to the world. It was a cruel fate that took our dear son, friend, brother away from us along with his wife, the love of his life.” Jack stated and moved back to his seat, unable to say any more.
The priest stood back.
“The next one will be Hermione Granger, Their only daughter.” He stated as he moved away for Hermione to take his place.
‘He would rub in the fact that I’m the only heir.’ She thought bitterly. She stood and looked at the altar.
“My Parents were my world, they were always there when I needed them, and they understood me and protected me as best as they could. They were the best parents anyone could ask for. They stood by me in my decisions on what I wanted to do and they never put me down. I hope I did my best to make them proud and I hope I continue to do so.” Hermione started but the tears began to run down her face. “There are a few regrets I have, I never told them how much I loved them and that they would never get to see everything, like my children, my wedding, my graduation, in all of my dreams, they were in it and now…” Hermione tried to finish but the tears overcame her. Harry shot out of his seat and hurried up to her. He took her into his arms as she clung to him while she sobbed into his chest. Harry wrapped his arms around her and helped her back to her seat where she continued to cling to him, sobbing over her loss of her parents.
Everyone was nearly in tears when they saw Hermione break down and they watched as Harry rocked her backward and forward as he tried to comfort her.
“That is all there was to say, now let us join in a silence moment for the Grangers.” The priest said as he bowed his head, everyone stood up apart from Harry and Hermione as Hermione was still sobbing.
Ron, Callum Granger, Jack Granger, Paul Anderson (Jane’s sister son) took Stuart’s casket while Arthur, Sirius, Lupin and James Anderson (Paul’s brother) took Jane’s casket.
#Oh my love, my darling
I’ve hungered for your touch/A long, lonely time
And time goes by so slowly/And time can do so much
Are you still mine?
I need your love/I need your love
God speed your love to me
Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the/Sea to the open arms of the sea
Lonely rivers sigh; wait for me, wait/For me I’ll be coming home wait
For me
Oh my love, my darling/I’ve hungered for your touch
A long, lonely time/And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much/Are you still mine?
I need your love/I need your love
God speed your love to me#
“Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust, may you rest in forever peace.” The priest announced and Hermione watched with silent tears as the caskets were lowered into the ground, she sighed as she leaned back so her back met the hardness of Harry’s chest while he wrapped his arms around her, holding her. He kissed the side of her head and rested the side of his chin on the side of her forehead.
“Everyone is welcomed to our house for food and drinks.” Jack announced and everyone nodded as they moved toward the cars. Hermione and Harry stood there.
Arthur came up to Harry; Harry kissed Hermione’s head and whispered that he’ll be a second as he walked over to Arthur.
Hermione knelt down in front of her parent’s grave and sobbed quietly as she traced the letters.
‘Here lies Jane Ann Granger and Stuart Martin Granger.’
“Hey Mom, Dad, I just wanted to let you know, I was going to tell you this when I met you at the train station. Harry asked me to marry him and I’ve accepted, I know how much you loved him even though you had never met him. I love him so much; I just wish you were going to be there for my wedding. I know you’ll be there in a spirit but it wouldn’t be the same. I love you so much.” Hermione sobbed as she pressed her fingers to her lips then placed them on the cool stones. She felt something being placed on her shoulders and realized that Harry had took off his jacket and wrapped them around her. He knelt down beside her.
“I told Arthur that you wanted to stay a little while, we’ll go back when you are ready sweetheart, okay?” Harry said and Hermione nodded as she leaned into Harry.
Ten minutes earlier.
Harry noticed that Arthur had called him over; he kissed the side of Hermione and whispered that he’ll back in a few seconds. His heart broke for her when he saw that she nodded, trying hard to keep the tears at bay.
Harry hurried over to Arthur.
“Yeah dad?” Harry asked.
“We are all going to the house, do you…?” Arthur started.
“We are going to stay here, Hermione needs it. We will be there though.” Harry said and Arthur nodded.
“Don’t let her bottle this up Harry, you are the only one who knows what it like to lose your parents, let her know that you are there for her.” Arthur said and Harry nodded.
“Don’t worry, I’m not letting her go again.” Harry said and Arthur smiled fleeting then walked off.
Harry walked over to Hermione.
“…Just wanted to let you know, I was going to tell you this when I met you at the train station. Harry asked me to marry him and I’ve accepted, I know how much you loved him even though you had never met him. I love him so much; I just wish you were going to be there for my wedding. I know you’ll be there in a spirit but it wouldn’t be the same. I love you so much.” Hermione sobbed as she pressed her fingers against her lips then pressed them against the cold stone. Harry saw her shiver lightly and shred his jacket, wrapping them on her shoulders.
“I told Arthur you wanted to stay a little while, we’ll go back when you are ready sweetheart, okay?” he whispered and Hermione nodded as he let her lean into him. He wrapped his arms around her body and just held her for as long as she needed him to.
Ron was glum, he was depressed, and he was hungry.
“Geez, a funeral and I’m hungry.” He muttered to himself as he looked around. “Now where are the foods?” he asked himself as he moved in between the crowd to look for the foods that his stomach was begging for.
He grinned when he entered the kitchen and made his way toward the table as he picked up a plate, he went to reach for the food but was intruppted by a knocking at the window. He looked toward it puzzled and his eyes widen when he saw an owl.
“Bloody Hell!” He muttered as he rushed over and grabbed the letter, he stared at the owl, wondering where he had seen it before, before looking down at the letter that was in his hand.
He looked at it curiously as there was no name on it and opened it. His eyes widen when the message came into view.
“Your parents are alive, barely but alive. If you want them, come and catch me.” The words tauntingly said, but the one thing that scared Ron the most? The writing was in blood.
