Chapter 2-Black House, Black Things
The days passed slowly for Harry, he worked inside most of the time, cleaning the house even if he wasn't asked. His aunt wasn't as strict or mean to him anymore, but almost motherly. She gave him full reign of the fridge and kitchen, allowing him to eat what he liked. But Harry didn't want to turn out like his over sized cousin, Dudley, nor like his uncle, so he ate when he was hungry, which meant hardly ever.
Soon it was the night of Harry's birthday, not making much difference in his mood. He was sitting up once again, staring at the night sky, when something small and smooth, came pelting into his head, he launched backwards, looking at the miniscule owl with amusement. It was now zooming around his ceiling, chirping annoyingly. He reached up and snatched the small bird out of the air, his Quidditch reflexes coming in useful. He removed the small parcel; the small owl flew back in the air. He sat on his bed, opening the wrapping on the present. A small note fell out.
`-Harry
Happy Birthday mate! This is something dad and mum thought would be useful, so I got it for you, it's not much.
-Ron'
Inside was what looked like a normal wrist watch, but instead of numbers it had small pictures. It was like the Weasley's grandfather clock, but instead of words it had pictures. There was a skull, which probably meant death, a house, a heart and a question mark. Harry latched it on to his arm, he noticed another small note on his bed, and he picked it up.
`-Harry, if you say someone's name to the watch it'll show if they're alright. The skull means death, the house that they're safe, the heart that they're close, and the question mark that they're lost.
-Ron'
He placed it back on the bed, and continued looking at his gift. He looked at the clock beside his bed; it was almost one in the morning. Harry had been sleeping lately; he still had the nightmares of Sirius falling, but they seemed more distant, faded, like it was an old movie replaying over and over.
There was another rustling as three owls fluttered through the window, and all landed on Harry's bed. The first letter was from Remus Lupin saying that he and some others would be coming to pick up the next day and taking him away, and to be ready by seven in the morning. The next was from Hermione with a book, Defense against the Dark Arts: What they don't tell you, Harry fingered through the pages highly interested. The final one was the Daily Prophet, the Wizarding newspaper. He sat all his mail on his desk, putting the book in his trunk. He sat on the floor and began packing his things for the next day, finishing not long after. He was getting changed when he remembered something. He sat on his bed and turned up his left foot, the one that he had cut. There was no sign of it ever been marked, there was no scratch, no nothing. He shrugged his shoulders, and lay down, snuggling under the covers. He shut his eyes, and soon was immersed in the replaying vision of Sirius's falling form.
There was a knocking coming somewhere from down stairs, awaking Harry from his slumber. He lay there for a while, waiting for his uncles booming foot falls, but they never came. He glanced over to his clock, it was almost seven, he quickly pulled himself out of bed, throwing off his pyjamas and changing into more suitable clothes. He pelted down the stairs, reaching the front door, wand tucked in his sleeve. He turned the handle and peered through. Standing in the door way, looking shabbier than ever was Lupin.
“Hello Harry, have a good summer?” Harry moved out of the way, allowing him to move in. Harry clutched his wand a bit tighter when Moony brushed against him, shutting the door behind him; he pulled out his wand pointing it at the back or the man, poking at his back bone.
“How do I know if it is really you?” Harry said bravely, not removing his out stretched hand. A small chuckle emitted from Harry's hostage, annoying Harry greatly.
“Very good, just like James, always expecting the unexpected. I am Remus Lupin, Moony is my nick name. I am a were-wolf, err…oh, the order of the phoenix is located in Grimmauld Place, I won't say the number, just in case.” Harry moved his wand from the reaches of his former professor, allowing him to turn around. A grin was placed on Moony's prematurely lined face.
“Err…sorry Moony, never know whose impersonating people these days. Are we going to go?” Harry stammered a bit embarrassed.
“That's quite alright, Harry. Yes I think we should be going.” Another smile played across his young face, but his eyes were sad. Harry leapt up the stairs two at a time, grabbing his things and lugging them down the stairs. Lupin was standing in the same spot, smiling the same smile and his eyes showing the same sadness. There was a creaking sound as the front door opened, then slammed shut, showing no-one. A voice spoke out from no where.
“Harry. The perimeters secure no signs of company. It's safe to go; I'll stay here and see you's off.” The voice was hoarse, and vaguely familiar to Harry. When it spoke again, he immediately recognized it.
“It's best you go know, before the muggles come back.” Came the voice of mad-eye Moody. Moony put his hand on Harry's shoulder, and directed him to the fire-place.
“We've hooked up your relative's fire-place up to the floo network for today; we're going to you-know-where. See you there.” Harry walked forwards a few paces, but forgot something, he turned, but lupin just laughed. He held out his hand and took the small pile of blue powder out of Moony's hand, and turned to his previous position, threw the powder in and stepped into the blue flames.
“Number twelve Grimmauld Place!” With the familiar puff of soot and smoke, Harry landed with a thump inside a crude looking living room. With another thump, lupin landed beside him, a bit ruffled, but fine. There was a rustling coming from down stairs, as three red heads came into view.
“Harry. Good to see you mate, have a nice trip?” One of the twins said moving towards them and shaking his hand, a serious look now upon his freckled face. Harry smiled slightly, and nodded.
“Hello, yeah, the trip was fine. So…what have you's been up to this summer?” The twins shared identical glances, before smiling equally.
“Yeah, we've finally opened the joke shop, its doing great-“
“-Yeah, and you have to come and have a look soon, since you're-“
“-Our secondary owner.” The twins finished each others sentences in turn. Harry noticed the third figure standing behind the twins, looking sternly at them.
“Hello Mrs Weasley,” She came forward and hugged Harry, before moving past and shaking Lupin's hand.
“You's would be hungry, come down stairs and I'll make some breakfast,” She headed back the way she came followed by the twins, but before Harry could follow, he felt a hand on his shoulder.
“Hang on a minute, Harry,” Harry looked curiously up at Lupin,” Harry I know it's hard for you to come back here,” Harry silently agreed with him, “Because I know it is for me. The reason is that Sirius had a will. On it he has left all his possessions, including the house to you.” Harry felt his heart drop.
