Disclaimer: I don't own any of the Harry Potter characters or story.
Warning: H/G at beginning, though I wouldn't really call it anything myself.
A/N: I promise I will try not to get too dramatic for you. This is after all a humour/romance.
Tricks Of The Trade
Ginny opened her eyes and yawned as she sat up in the bed. Last nights talk with Blaise had helped her a lot in understanding Draco, but that didn't change the fact that he was still unbelievably cocky and acted like a complete jerk to her.
Blaise looked at Ginny, while getting dressed, “Come on we've got a Quidditch game today.”
Ginny shot up and looked at him, “What?”
“Even you should know this” Blaise said grinning, “It is against Gryffindor after all.”
Ginny's mouth dropped open as she realised the full implications of what this meant. Not only would she be playing against her own house, but her boyfriend and her brother.
“You've got to be kidding.” Said Ginny blankly.
Blaise smirked, “Well let's go Captain.”
Ginny held a hand to her head, “I forgot Draco is captain of the Slytherin team.”
“Well you better start thinking up a plan for us players.” Blaise said with an evil grin.
Ginny glared at him. She knew Blaise was enjoying every minute of her discomfort. She only hoped Draco was having the same problems.
OOOOOOOO
Draco looked in the mirror with disgust as he tied up the long deep red hair. He was going to have to play Slytherin in the Quidditch finals. Not only that but Ginny was going to be captaining his team and probably make him lose. Granted she was an average seeker but she was no match for him or Potter. And he was going to have to be a chaser.
Draco sighed, “This day is just getting better and better.”
He trudged down to the common room and almost shuddered with horror as he saw the whole Gryffindor team standing around waiting for the last few people to come in.
Harry smiled at Draco and turned back to the team, “Alright. Slytherin have got no chance in beating us this year. You all know the drills, so lets just get changed and have a good game.”
The Gryffindors cheered and began to make their way down to the Quidditch Pitch.
Draco sighed and followed them dejectedly. On the way he saw Ginny and Blaise walking side-by-side talking. Ginny had his broom slung over her shoulder and gave Draco a small smile as she walked into the Slytherin changing rooms. Somehow this reassured Draco and it was with a more confident feeling that he walked into the Gryffindor changing room to get changed.
“Hey Gin, you gonna show us some of those moves you were practising?” Katie asked grinning.
Draco looked at her, “You'll just have to wait and see.”
OOOOOOOOO
“Blaise,” Ginny whispered.
“What?” Blaise asked curiously.
“Ummm is there anywhere I can get changed?” Ginny asked trying not to blush.
“Why?” Blaise asked with a smirk.
“Because I'm not used to seeing so many practically naked guys everywhere you idiot what else?” Ginny hissed.
“Wait till its shower time then.” Blaise grinned.
Ginny rolled her eyes, “You're lucky I'm in Draco's body Blaise, or you'll be regretting those words.”
Blaise merely smirked.
“Come on Draco. The match is about to start.” Crabbe grunted.
OOOOOOOOO
“And the Match begins” Luna said dreamily from the stands.
Instantly red and green clashed together in a myriad of colour. Katie Bell grabbed the quaffle and raced of towards the Slytherin goalposts, which were being guarded by a rather brutal looking Slytherin called Romulus Castrande. Katie lifted her hand to score but Blaise Zabini, the star chaser of the Slytherin team, knocked the quaffle out of her hands. He gave a cheeky smirk to her as he passed the quaffle to Theodore Nott.
Draco couldn't help grinning a little; still he wasn't going to just let this go. He may be competitive and want Slytherin to win, but to purposely lose a Quidditch game was not part of his code. So Draco sped of towards Nott and did a tricky loop as he swept under Nott's broom to take the Quaffle. Everyone watched as Draco speed towards the Slytherin goalpost with determination. He ducked and swerved the bludgers with ease and threw the quaffle hard into the ring behind Castrande.
The Gryffindors erupted with cheers as the first goal was awarded.
Ginny watched shocked. She had no idea Draco was such a good flyer. He would have made a decent chaser.
“Malfoy what are you doing? You're meant to be looking for the snitch.” Nott yelled as he sped past after the Gryffindor chaser.
Ginny jumped slightly and looked around. She sighed with relief as she saw Harry still searching frantically for that elusive glint of gold.
Blaise came up by Ginny, “We're ready for the plan.”
Ginny nodded and gave the signal to the other Slytherins. Crabbe and Goyle grunted in acknowledgement and raised their clubs to the bludgers so they could aim at chaser Dean Thomas who currently had the quaffle. Blaise, Nott and Warrington made a sort of V formation as they swooped towards Dean. Instantly he was hit by the bludgers, the quaffle dropped and Blaise grabbed the ball from within. As a flawless sequence they passed the quaffle to each other to avoid bludgers and opponents. Blaise caught the ball and flied up close towards Ron, who was watching their moves in a hawk-like fashion. Blaise raised his hand as if to score but threw it diagonally. Ginny who had been hovering by the goal hit the quaffle with the back of her broom that sent it flying back to Blaise who managed to score.
Ron let out an annoyed grunt as Luna's dreamy voice awarded Slytherin ten points.
“Oh come on that has to be a foul!” Katie shouted as she looked at Draco. “They used their seeker to help score a goal.”
Draco grinned, “I don't remember reading anywhere that a seeker couldn't accidentally hit the quaffle.”
Katie huffed and flew off as the game resumed.
Soon the rain started and people were becoming a blurred mess in the air. Ginny could still make out Harry's narrowed gaze as he flew around the pitch. She could see Draco speeding after Blaise as he made his way once more towards the Gryffindor goalposts. It seemed the beaters were now trying to hit each other, rather then helping their own team-mates.
“Malfoy you better catch this snitch soon. We're winning on 70 to 50. If Gryffindor get any more points they've won the cup anyway.” Warrington said as he came to hover by Ginny.
Ginny nodded, “I know.”
Blaise looked at her with misgiving. Would she really help Slytherin win? It all fell on her now.
Ginny looked around and saw the golden blur as it flew past her face. She wheeled around on her broom and saw Harry do the same. The commentary sounded muffled to her ears as she speed through the air after the ever-elusive snitch.
Harry looked at her and narrowed his eyes as he tried to outfly her towards the snitch. Ginny inwardly sighed. She knew she was no match for Harry but that didn't mean she wasn't going to try. She still had her end of the plan to uphold after all.
Looking at Harry squarely in the eyes she winked and blew him a kiss. As expected Harry was shocked and, much to Ginny's delight, distracted. Ginny was able to reach out her hand and snatch the snitch from right under his nose.
The Slytherins erupted with cheers as the game finished. Ginny looked around and smiled as she saw Blaise come speeding over. He grabbed her in a bone-crunching hug, whispering, “Thanks Weasley, we owe you won.”
Draco sat on his broom watching his team mates practically jumping for joy as they slowly descended to the ground. He smiled to himself as he saw Ginny congratulating the Slytherins on their flying.
Harry flew over and looked at Draco. “We lost. We actually lost.”
Draco looked at Harry, “It's only one game.”
Harry still looked dejected, as did the other team members. Draco sighed to himself. He was glad Slytherin had won but now he had to put up with a bunch of mopey Gryffindors. Really it felt like he had lost anyway. He wouldn't even get to celebrate with his team.
“C'mon team. Showers.” Harry said to the bedraggled Gryffindors.
Draco made his way to the ground and saw Ginny and Blaise waiting for him.
“Good game.” Draco said.
Ginny nodded cheerfully, “You could make a decent chaser you know.”
Draco scratched his head slightly, “Well you weren't so bad yourself. Mind you, I wouldn't normally use that tactic on Potter. He's going to think I'm a poof.”
Ginny grinned, “I wouldn't worry. He already thinks that anyway.”
Blaise laughed and Draco watched them angrily as they walked into the Slytherin changing rooms.
“Stupid gits.” Draco mumbled as he walked into the Gryffindor changing room to have a shower.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Hermione walked slowly down the hallway and looked behind her as she heard footsteps running towards her.
“Granger.” Blaise called as he saw her stop.
“Zabini.” Hermione said stiffly.
“I thought we might try to find some info in the library now. If you're ok with that?” Blaise asked smiling slightly at her protective stance. Honestly did she think he was going to pounce on her or something…. not that he wouldn't like to, she was quite an attractive girl.
“I guess.” Hermione said dropping her wariness slightly.
“Good.” Blaise said grabbing her by the arm and steering her of to the library.
“W-wait can I just-” Hermione stuttered as she was pulled irresistibly forward.
“I'm sure you can do whatever you need to do later.” Blaise said cheerfully as he dragged her into the library.
Hermione rolled her eyes and sat down. “Alright.”
“That's the spirit,” Blaise said with an annoying grin.
Hermione sighed. “Let's get this done quickly then.”
Blaise looked at her with a smirk, “You really need to loosen up Granger. Not all Slytherins are evil Death Eaters.”
Hermione jumped slightly, “I never said that.”
Blaise shrugged, “I know that's what everyone thinks.”
Hermione looked at him curiously, “You don't seem to mind giving of that image.”
Blaise smiled slightly, “Wanna know why?”
Hermione looked at him, “Why?”
Blaise grinned and lowered his voice, “Come closer and I'll whisper it. Wouldn't want everyone to hear our sacred Slytherin secrets.”
Hermione rolled her eyes but leant closer anyway. Blaise smiled as he leant towards her. The sweet smell of honey drifted to his nose as her hair tickled his face. On the pretext of whispering in her ear, he gently moved her hair out of the way and leant even closer. Softly he turned her face towards him and placed his lips upon her own.
Hermione looked at him shocked and pulled back. Blushing fiercely she stood up, “I uh-just remembered I left my book in my room. Um I'll see you round bye,” she said quickly as she ran out of the library.
Blaise smiled to himself. That was too easy.
