That’s why he sat here and thought of how he could possibly escape from all of this. Only months before, he didn’t want to be human anymore, and now he wished he could be, just a little bit more.

This is a ficlet I wrote several months ago and I figured it's about time I posted it in the fanfic section. Summary: Harry gives Hermione a birthday to remember.
It is ten years after the fall of Voldemort, and Harry is existing as a hermit, completely withdrawn from the world. Can the love of his best friend save him from his downward spiral into despair. Themes: depression, drug abuse, suicidal tendencies. This was my first completed fanfic.

A friend of mine who had a similar problem inspired this story. I advised her to write it down since I thought it would make a nice story. When she refused I told her that I would do it if she didn’t. She seemed to like it, so I decided to share it with everyone. Normally I don’t do stories from other peoples POV, but it’s the only way this story really works. I made some changes to chapter 1 and added a second one from Harry's POV. It takes place in 6th year -- and Fred, George, Angelina and Alicia all pulled a Flint and got left back.
